I just received my surgery date of October 5, 2022… Seems like such a long way away! Using this time to mentally prepare. I am 60 years old. At times it seems that I have waited too long. Then again I enjoy playing with my grandchildren and finding the energy to do so with this weight is extremely hard. Counting down… 75 more days!

Hey! I was wondering for those who have started taking vitamin capsules instead of chewable vitamins, how do you take your calcium? I know you can't take iron and calcium together so if I get some capsules when should I take the calcium chewable? I will ask my doctor but I want to know what you guys are doing/what's worked with you and your blood tests. Thanks!

  5. Can you tell me your timeline. From start to end. I have CareFirst insurance. I did some research but still no clear. What were the steps you took from the day you first make your appointment? How long it took you to get to your surgery date? I’m in Alexandria, Virginia and just started to look into weight loss clinics and signed up for one seminar.

It drives me nuts to throw things away. I donate what I can and try to find other people who can use the items. I am now 6 trash bags deep into clothing donations! So, I have some bariatric "liquid/drinkable" vitamins that I liked when I tried before surgery but could not stomach after surgery. I am in Baltimore MD, so if you are local I will gladly pass them along to anyone who wants them FOR FREE! If you are not local and are willing to pay the shipping expenses then I will also ship them. I have single serving packets of the raspberry lemonade. I also have 1 unopened tub of the 4 in 1 chocolate shake mix and 1 OPENED tub. Both pictured below. If anyone i…

  7. Hey there, 3 months post op and really struggling with permanent cramps & burping. This seems to happen every time I have my period, however, my PMS pre surgery was never this bad. I now cramp permanently (24/7) for up to 2.5 weeks (even though my period itself only lasts 3-5 days), i’m bloated and I permanently need to burp as the gas is just extreme. Basically I feel like how I did in my first week after surgery with the gas, walking and burping. I’m in severe pain and every night I have spasm attacks so my sleep is really bad. Has anyone else been through this? if so: 1) How did you manage this? 2) How long did it last? 3) why has it happen…

I’m having a hard time making a final decision on the surgery. About a year ago I weighed 350. In the last few months I really decided to step up my weight loss game. I’ve now lost 80 lbs and am 270. Obviously I still qualify for the surgery, but I’m having a hard time deciding on moving forward. I’m still losing about 10 lbs a month, but I know weight regain is a huge issue for people who don’t have the surgery. Any advice or suggestions?

Hey guys, I lost 14kg (30 lbs) in the first month and the pre-op diet combined. Average I think. But in the last 2 weeks I’ve put on 5 lbs!! I’m wondering if more movement could do it. It’s only in the last few weeks that I’ve been able to move around much. I really suffered after the surgery and had no energy. Anyone else put on weight? I’m frankly mortified. I must be under 700 calories per day easily.

  15. My surgery was June 29th. While I am obese (217 pounds day of surgery), my main and desperate reason for surgery was that I have SEVERE GERD, Barrett's Esophagus, esophageal ulcer, nodules/tumors in esophagus , hiatal hernia-- all from the never ending GERD. My health insurance would NOT pay for my surgery. It's totally excluded no matter the reason. I was headed to esophageal cancer land and was desperate. So, I paid out of pocket and flew to the Netherlands to a really good surgeon and clinic. I am still here and fly home in a few days. For the most part, my pain has been super super easy. But I've had a few issues... and now I am so scared that I made the biggest mista…

I am 4 years post op & I have been plagued by nausea almost all day long. I wake up nauseous! This has been going on since at least February. I currently take 3-4 8mg of Zofran a day & meclezine too. I keep my food intake to less then 4 oz at a time so I’m not over stuffing myself. I am seeing a gastroenterologist & a naturopath & a urologist (I have asymptomatic Ecoli - I have it actively in my urine but have NO symptoms!) I’m wondering if this could be from the bypass. Anyone else dealt with any of this before? I’m just tired of feeling so crummy most of the time. We are going on our 1st 7 day cruise in Sept & I don’t want to deal …

Backstory- I had a sleeve surgery about seven years ago. I misused my tool with self sabotage. At the time, I didn't have the appreciation nor respect of myself. I wasn't mentally prepared for the physical changes. It's kinda like one of those things... that you don't know till you've been there and done that...sort of situation. You don't know what you don't know! I never hit Onederland...boo!! And as I shrunk in size, I was not taken seriously...that was the first for me and very mind boggling at the time. Those are the two things I remember most and with all that conveyed, the questions.. Those that had the sleeve and went to bypass, how do they compare with the leve…

I know this is posted on here time and time again but I'm so frustrated. I'm getting ready for a cross country move. I really imagined that by this time I'd be in the 230s. I have stalled out for the last 3 or 4 weeks and am so frustrated about it. I keep going in between 248 and 251. I don't know if this is maintenance because im only a bit over 4 months post op from gastric bypass. I have definitely increased my calories but am eating in a deficit. My BMR is around 1900 and I'm eating in between 1000 and 1300 a day plus exercise. I have been slacking in water and have not been having protein shakes at all because I'm getting a decent amount through solid food and don't …

Life if good, everything is going well and I am chugging along at a very satisfying pace. I have lost 113 lbs total and 76 lbs since surgery! I measured myself for the first time since surgery the other day, really most of my body measurements are the same which I find a little weird after loosing 113lbs. I do carry most of my weight in my belly, and have small arms and small legs so I guess it makes sense. I lost a total of 4 inches all over my body PLUS 14 inches in my waist alone. No bad I suppose. I can eat anything except COLD chicken (I gue…

So after 2 weeks of not having my scale budge, this morning I was down a pound and a half! I finally got past 259! Going to really try to stay off the scale until Friday but it's a relief to finally have the scale move. And somehow I thought I was in week 3 of a stall but when I looked at the calendar I was actually in week 2... it just felt much longer. So relieved to have the scale move... I mean, my brain knew it would but my heart had doubts. Of I go! TTYL! Melly

Each time I failed a little more would stay on. I have PCOS, Diabetes, COPD and Asthma among other things but my weight made those worse. Climbing over 300lbs and have no quality of life was my line in the sand. I had my RNY surgery on June 7th (I can't figure out how to put that in my profile). I started my pre-op liquid diet on May 27th. I've lost 50lbs since then and I can't believe my mobility and energy. My goal is 160lbs. I have 100lbs to go. I know it's a journey and that RNY is just a tool b…

When I was younger I would never have thought I'd celebrate being overweight. But I'm so excited to be just overweight and not obese or Mobidly obese. And yesterday my weight on my drivers license is right. I had it at 185 for years since I was that weight after I had my now 20 year old daughter even at 290. I am really thinking of changing the weight to my goal weight of 160 so it doesn't lie the other way.

But now I have a date I am just curious about some things, and these are questions that only people who have already been through this process and surgery can answer. I have been seeing a lot of different time frames and I am curious how long it took your doctor to complete your surgery? How long was your hospital stay? How was your doctor's bedside manner? What can I expect when I get to the hospital before surgery? What was your biggest struggle at the hospital and at home? When did you go back to …

So today makes it my 6 day post op. And I’m just struggling taking the multivitamin. It’s such a struggle for me. I’m having a hard time taking it. Also I’m just all over the place with how much I’m not eating. I’m doing my best to sip sip sip but I’m full full full. I have no appetite for nothing. No craving for anything. I have to force myself to have a protein shakes. I don’t want to be dehydrated. That’s such a fear to go back to the hospital. So I’m pushing myself but truly feel like I’m doing this all wrong. Hey guys Maybe TMI but yesterday I had the most awful, two hour long session trying to have a BM. Soooo constipated. My hubby was ready to call an ambulance it was that bad, sweating and shaking and finally when I had managed to go enough to make a difference, I was so exhausted I just slept and slept. In the night I woke with pains in my stomach under the wound sites and a pain in my left shoulder. It is a bit better now so I’m not rushing to A&E or anything but I wonder if straining the wound site causes referred pain in the shoulder? I’d imagine if I had burst stitches I’d be in agony and my stomach would be hard so I’m not too worried / but just wondering if …

  31. I am 3 weeks after surgery. Been fat always. Had the sleeve in 2016 and did well for a few years. The plan was to convert then to the bypass once my BMI was down but then the insurance company decided not to pay and it was a battle til now. I had it 3 weeks ago. And this is so much worse than I could have ever imagined. I realise now that they put me on anti nausea meds and took me off my antidepressants that I’d been on for about 8 years. Cold turkey. I am now a bitch who yells and snaps or cries. That’s it. I had a lot of pain post surgery and was in hospital 6 days not 3 - as with probably lots of us, I’m tolerant to pain meds so I am only now managing with plain p…

I have tried just about everything and nothing seems to sit well with my stomach. From clear protein, protein shakes, jello, beans, soups, and much more. Some days I only get some water in and throw up everything else, other days I can keep down just a tiny bit of the protein. I’ve also tried spacing out my intake and drinking slowly and taking tiny sips or bites but nothing seems to work. I’m starting to get really worried because I’m feeling more nauseous than before. And I’ve recently started to get light headed and almost fainted today. Unfortunately my…

  33. Hi ? Now I know that my own “team” should have helped me with this. But they didn’t. Now that the world is a smaller place and consultations can happen online, does anyone have names of *reliable/responsible *well educated and certified Psychologists especially for us bariatric surgery patients? I didn’t see anyone pre-surgery and I know that I need to both address why I got so big - and - how to get over those issues - and - how to keep losing now. All of us have limited money, right?! I hate the idea of spending my kid’s college money (which is what any extra money we manage to save ultimately is), on a psychologist who sees one patient like me …

  34. No matter that I’m suffering from a whole load of symptoms, I just had ice cream and chocolate. Why? How can someone put themselves through so much pain and surgery etc and then just self sabotage? My mind won’t heal overnight I know. Right now my stomach feels like I have gastric flu. I’m waiting for the inevitable. Punishing myself. I know I’m not alone. I just hope I’ll cure myself of these habits soon. Anyone else like me? I’m not even a month post surgery yet.

I am one month post op and I am unhappy with my decision to have bypass surgery. My family and friends continue to tell me I’ll feel happy later on when I loose all the weight and doctors keep telling me eventually I’ll feel normal again. But I feel like there is no end in sight. Im not happy, constantly in pain, hungry but i can’t eat, thirsty but i can’t drink. I was excited before the surgery and wish I was happy now. Did anyone else feel this way? I feel alone when I talk to the few people I know that have had this surgery because they’re all very happy with their weight loss.

I'm scheduled for my surgery August 3rd, and I'm trying to understand the vitamin situation. I currently take a gummy multivitamin (Vitafusion Women's) and I can tolerate those fine. Are gummies (obviously not my old ones) available and an option after gastric bypass? I love the idea of patches but I am allergic to adhesive, so that is a no-go. I'm hoping I can just take swallowable ones, if gummies don't work, but I guess chewables or liquids would be alright if they weren't too gross tasting. Does everyone take roughly the same vitamin mix or will the doc specify ones specific to me? I'm going to Tijuana, so I haven't had a lot of interaction with the medical team ther…

So today was unusually hot and I took my daughter to get ice cream at Baskin Robbins. I couldn’t resist and got myself a very small cup (2 oz) of Jamoca Almond Fudge. I have been really good and have lost 65 pounds in two and a half months. So I ate the ice cream slowly and didn’t eat the almonds. I braced myself for a bad reaction but nothing happened. Does that mean I’m not a dumper? Or is dumping a random thing?

Also, because I didn't go through the normal bariatric process beforehand, I don't know what the follow-up should look like either. I've been extremely depressed and irratable and just really struggling. It isn't about me nit being able to eat like I used to but rather everything I do eat I feel disgusted and nauseous. I had my surgery in Mexico and just really am feeling like I don't know what to do... I keep thinking ill feel better the next day and it's not happening. Is anyone else having a hard time??

I know it's early, only 3 weeks after my bypass. But it's just been one struggle after another. I was increasing my ability to eat and drink for a little while, but I seem to be going backwards now. I can barely force myself to consume maybe 25oz of liquid and 4 bites of food a day. But I can't stand any of the protein I've tried. I found one shake that's okay but I can only tolerate about half of it and not every day. If I have a shake or half a yogurt, I can't eat for the rest of the day at all. I feel sick all the time. Nauseous, dizzy, lightheaded, weak. I use a transdermal multivitamin patch approved by my surgeon. I'm having big regret…

I don’t want to have to resort to bring my own food for various reasons but will if I have to.
