I am 5 weeks post op, and am in phase 2 of my eating schedule (soups with small chunks primarily). I was doing fine until yesterday. Last night my food got stuck in my throat. I had to use the “two finger method” several times over the course of an hour to resolve it. The same thing happened after breakfast (watery grits) and lunch (cottage cheese) today. I called my doctor and was told I probably have a stricture. If so, he told me I will need an endoscopy and a balloon stretch to open the stricture. After the current blockage passes, he told me to try to see if pre-op liquids would pass. If so, he will schedule the procedure next week. If not, I will need to go…

  2. I have my surgery scheduled for 3/2... The anxiousness is keeping me up at night wondering if I am making the right decision.. or am I setting myself up to get sick for the rest of my life. I have been doing my research and reading posts from many different support groups all over the internet and there are some horrific stories out there are people that can't get food down.. or they throw up every time they eat meat ETC.. for me I could deal with it coming out the other end not to be graphic but the thought of vomiting for the rest of my life has me absolutely petrified and questioning should I take the chance.. Please share your experience from having gastric bypass... …

Well just wondering if anyone has some advice on how to deal with keeping your protein shake fresh when it takes me an hour or more to get through it. Like I was drinking one yesterday and left it out for an hour because my stomach was full and when I tried it again it tasted like a tire (no joke). I tried refrigerating it and it still tasted awful. Wasted shake! And we know how pricey they are. What are some things you practice that keep your protein shakes fresh on days you need extra time to finish them? Thanks!

Okay after a long and hard 3 moth decision I've decided to get the bypass after I read about the side effects of my GERD possibly getting worse even cancerous. Anyways my question is when I'm losing weight how do I prevent myself from getting excess skin?

Hi guys I’m 4 weeks post op. The day of surgery I was 286lbs I think about a week from that I was 264lbs, but since then I’ve been stalled for 2 weeks(maybe some days). Currently 259. I have pain still as if it were the first day all over again. I literally eat nothing as everything disgusts me. I do try to drink my protein shakes, but only get 1 in per day. I drink maybe 30oz of water daily. Is this anyone else’s experience? Does anyone have any advice ?

  6. I am almost three months postop and I have not been able to eat anything more than foods like yogurt or applesauce consistency. I have tried eating soft vegetables very well chewed up chicken tilapia etc and I throw up afterwards. Is this normal? I read about people eating eggs and soft foods but I can barely stomach a little yogurt or applesauce. I have my 3 month visit in less than two weeks any suggestions or thoughts on what I can do or say? Thanks

Hey again, I was just wondering what are some great exercises after surgery also, what are some great glute exercises I suffer from a square bum aka H shape butt so I was just wondering what are some great booty exercises to make my bum rounder and fuller and, what are some other great exercises after surgery?

  8. Started by pcoswarrior1994,

Hello everybody, I was just wondering after gastric bypass how much weight did you lose and if your PCOS and acanthosis nigricans improved and if you have GERD/acid reflux how are those symptoms. And what did you do about your excess skin if you had it?

One month out, dietician appointment, examined what I'm eating, said it's enough with the transition foods like cottage cheese, time to eat properly and "enjoy my life". Told me to try and piece of toast with ham which I'm not going to do. But to eat solid foods, chew more (which I haven't need to do because the foods were soft) and aim to eat in 10 minutes (previously 1 minute of soft food and I was full). Great success with dinner, below, which I finished.

Hey everyone, I have some exciting news, I got approved for gastric bypass this past Monday and, my surgery date is next month on the 22nd. I was just wondering what kinds of exercises that you guys have done and that you've had success in achieving also, I do have PCOS so I was just wondering for my fellow cysters how much weight have you guys lost in 2-12 months and what was your weight loss each month. I was also wondering what types of food did you guys eat after 2 weeks like what could you guys tolerate and, very lastly what can I expect before, during, and after my surgery?

Hi guys, this is my first time on this forum. I found out about this site from reading it in a Bariatric Surgery information book. I’m considering gastric bypass because of my GERD. I’m in process to getting all my clearances. I should be finished by April. Hoping to have the surgery by the Summer. Has anyone who’s had GERD been healed after the surgery? Any other advice about this procedure. Thanks ?

Has any one who’s had the bypass, switched to gummy vitamins & had no issues with their bloodwork? My surgeon said I had to stick to chewables or pill form vitamins.. I dont do well with pills as they make me gag & these chewables taste so gross?

Hi everyone! I am Kim and new here, although a long time lurker. I read forums all the time, I want to know the good, the bad and the ugly. All the possibilities. My surgery is scheduled for Marsh 21st and I am so excited. I am not a bit nervous yet but I know once it gets closer I will be freaking out. I am so dedicated to this process, I have done months of research after years of convincing myself that I don't need this. I have lost over 100 lbs multiple times, I have high expectations for myself that this will be the LAST TIME! Thanks for listening!

I had sleeve to by-pass surgery two weeks ago today. Although I feel good overall, I’m extremely cold most of the time. Has anyone else experienced this? Does it go away?

So I finally got my surgery date after about 7 months of waiting. I am feeling so many mixed emotions but mainly excited and scared. My surgery is on Valentine's Day or Feb 14th. I thought how symbolic because it's all about self love now in my life and treating myself to the life I deserve rather than put up with. It's been such an emotional journey for me. I'm so ready now though. I just need to remember the good over the ugly parts. I'm a little bit sad because I've only lost 26 lbs throughout this time but I worked really hard with psychologists and my psychiatrist to have a better relationship to food throughout all of these months. It was slow but my weight has b…

Hi Im a bit worried I am able to eat too much. I have had very little guidance from the dietician since my gastric bypass but have just emailed them for advice. Im concerned that I am able to eat too much for 8 weeks post bypass. Tonight I have had a 2 egg omelette with cheese and ham and plum tomatoes. I ate maybe 1/2 -3/4 of the omelette and 2 tomatoes. Is this too much do you think? I feel full but not uncomfortable.

Hello, I have just started the pre-op process, but haven't decided on sleeve or gastric bypass. I met with my surgeon and he explained both surgeries and the potential weightloss, complications, etc, but I'm still on the fence. What made you choose bypass and are you happy with it? Any issues? Would you do it again? Thank you!

Hey everyone! I'm just coming on here to see if anyone has experienced similar issues or see if this is normal. My nurse is suppose to call me back tomorrow so I am still waiting. I'm 8 days post op from gastric bypass. While the surgical pain has subsided I have been experiencing tachycardia, extreme constipation (haven't had a full bowel movement in 9 days, just little bits here and there), I'm nauseous from pain in my intestines and today when I was able to go a little bit, my stool was red and I haven't had anything to cause that as well as extremely foul smelling. I had a family member who's a physician check me out casually and ask me some questions. They suggest…

  24. Hey! I just got my bypass on Monday. Home from the hospital as of Tuesday. I'm pretty much just inside alone and in a lot of pain. I can tolerate liquids but like I don't want to drink anything. I'm making sure I check my clock every 30 min while I'm awake to take something in. I had my first bariatric vitamin this morning. Felt a little bit nauseous after but took some meds for that. I feel very lonely right now and I think a big part of it is the pain. It's making me not want to go and walk around my neighborhood. I also am having trouble speaking because my throat is very irritated. Anyone else feel kind of just like sick and isolated? I hate this feeling so much. Ca…

Hi I am 8 weeks post bypass and I am wondering which soft drinks I can have when I go out to a pub/bar/out for a meal (I live in the UK). I literally can’t think of anything that isn’t fizzy or full of sugar apart from water. Any ideas would be appreciated ?

Hello! I’m 31 days post op from my rny and have been struggling with food for awhile. I never really cooked at home pre-op and so I’m having a hard time finding things to eat during the soft food stage. I’ve gotten snacks that my programs suggests but I’m craving a meal. I rarely eat more than 1-2 times a day. Typically a meal and a snack, so I’m way below on my protein. My first NUT appointment is the 18th so I’m interested to hear her suggestions. I’ve been eating this way for about 2 weeks now and it’s really wearing on my energy levels. I eat less, workout less and lose less. It’s becoming disheartening. I’m hoping by the 3 month mark when I can have more variety it’l…

Hey! I know I've been posting a lot but I'm curious, I'm 5 days post op. The pain has subsided a lot but I still need to wear my binder. I'm experiencing such low levels of energy and stamina I can't even enjoy my weight loss. Pre op I was training for a half marathon and able to walk and run without being short of breath. When I walk my legs give out and my chest pulsates. Is this normal? My family says it's because I'm not eating. Ive walked inbetween 8000 and 10000 steps a day since surgery 5 days ago. I have all my protein and most all my hydration every day. I'm nervous it's going to be like this for a month and I'm so unhappy with the lack of energy. Has anyon…

I’m 3 months post op and wondering what prescription medications other people have notified they aren’t getting the full effect of after their surgery? I know I had mine approved for post op but wondering if some of mine may not be absorbing enough or something since I am feeling symptoms of what I would call a reduced dose.

  31. Started by fourmonthspreop,

I just got home from the hospital. My surgery went smoothly and my surgeon said I am at least risk to have complications so I'm happy with that. I did a lot of walking in the hospital and got fluids down. The most bothersome part of all this is the pain in my chest and throat. Something is weird and swollen in my throat causing me to sound nasaly but it isn't my noise. My esophagus spasms every now and then and I burp a little bit which is uncom. I also have a lot of pleghm I can't get out because it hurts to cough and take deep breaths. How long does the acute pain last? At this point I'm just looking forward to taking a pain pill and drifting off to sleep. Does slee…

Hey! I'm 4 days post op and trying to imagine whay pureed food is gonna feel like. I'm a vegetarian. I'm liking the idea of fat free refried beans with salsa but im also terrified to eat food again. I don't want to throw up or anything. Can anyone suggest vegetarian safe pureed foods for their new stomachs? So far I'm thinking refried beans, egg Salad pureed, hummus, tomato soup, red pepper soup, pureed broccoli cheddar, Silken tofu pudding....I would add protein powder to some of these too.. What else sounds good or worked for you?

  33. I am looking for some friends to help me succeed with this journey. My name is Lisa and I am having gastric bypass in 4 months. I have already lost 11 pounds in less than 2 weeks. I need to lose a total of 130 pounds. I welcome any tips for before and after surgery and someone to talk to when I have questions or concerns.

  35. Hi, so I am scheduled to have the sleeve done on March 17th. I had an endoscopy done this morning and because of the results, my doctor has changed my surgery to bypass. I've learned everything about the sleeve and have prepared for it. Now I'm going to have to start over and prepare for the bypass. I'd appreciate any advice on things to be prepared for, preop and post op, and anything else you can think of!! Thanks!

Hi Everyone - I wanted to reach out and ask if anyone have headaches after the bypass. I have these headaches that last for 3 days at a time and not sure if it is due to the amount of food we are supposed to eat or the water we are supposed to drink. What can you take besides tylenol because that doesn't always help. Thanks, Lisa

  38. Hey everyone! I'm scheduled for my bypass on Feb 14. So far I've lost 8 lbs on the pre op diet and I'm on day 3 but was dieting pretty hard-core the week I got on my preop. lol it's going well but I get food anxiety about stupid stuff though like what if I ate too much lettuce and get kicked out of ketosis? I know it's so irrational and I've done keto and the nutrition/macro dance of anxiety in the past. I figure as long as I'm losing weight and eating less than 6 grams of carbs a day, my liver is hopefully shrinking. Anyway, I'm trying not to overthink things. That's been helping me so far. They say when you overthink you create problems that weren't there in the first…

I had my bypass about 2 weeks ago and wanted to get some experiences from people who had bypass (not sleeve). Are you able to eat hamburgers at some point after bypass? (It’s a common dinner item in my house and my family loves Five Guys). And how much do you usually eat before you feel full? Thanks!

  41. Surgery is coming on Monday, Feb 14th. I'm getting gastric bypass. I'm in a really dark mental space. I'm so scared I'm going to have complications. I don't know what I'd do with myself if I willingly make myself sickly with surgery when I feel great and healthy right now as I'm slowly but surely losing weight without it. I know I need to and want to lose all my excess weight but I'm so scared that I'll be sick after. I've never dealt with long term health issues or feeling severely ill. What if it happens to me? I read about all kinds of terrible things and I panic. I'm really trying to focus on the positives but as it gets closer, I don't know... it's like I want to s…

I’m still in the pre-op phase of surgery. I have been planning for RNY vs. VSG because they did see reflux on my scope. I don’t take a daily med now, it is controlled by my food choices and if I do have it a simple Pepcid helps. In planning with the new surgeon he said as long as no hiatal hernia I could either. My question is: I know they give reflux meds/PPI’s after surgery to protect against ulcers etc. how long have you had to take those prophylacticially and when can you stop them? I don’t want to be on them chronically since I’m not now. This makes me wonder if VSG might be better if I could not take them forever, but then again risk to make reflux worse could ma…

Hey! I'm getting ready to have my bypass on Monday in 4 days about. I'm getting really nervous and hitting that stage where you feel regret and extreme fear. I have read so many stories about people becoming chronically ill after bypass. What if that's me? I'm also scared how much pain I'll be in but maybe it will work out? I'm in my mid 20s, I have no health conditions so I keep being told I will probably recover just fine but you can't help and be completely terrified of the unknown. So I'd like to hear how you felt waking up from your surgery and if it went really well for you, tell me a bit about that. I know some people tolerate liquids really well, have minimal pa…

Hey! I'm just trying to get through my pre op diet right now. I'm limited to lean proteins and veggies at the moment in very small amounts. I'm doing meal preps and eating the same small protein meal everyday. I'm a vegetarian so I'm just sticking to tofu since it's low carb. The first one is tofu cooked in a tablespoon on coconut flour and garlic Zuchinni with a very small amount of tomatoes. The other one was sugar free barbecue tofu and onion green beans. Can I see your pre op meals? I'm interested to see how others ate on their pre op diets. Thanks!
