I'm 48 and in the beginning phases (dietician visits and tests) of bariatric surgery. I am probably getting the RNY. A lot of posts that I see are from younger women (which is great!), but I'm concerned that the weight will come off slower now that I'm older. Especially since menopause is probably around the corner. Could you share your stories (successes or challenges), so I could get an idea of what things look like for women close to their 50's. Thanks!

Does anyone else have problems with eating breakfast???? I still have a protein shake or smoothie for breakfast. I can mix my vitamins and supplements in with my shakes first thing in the morning. It is my hardest meal to get down. I even struggle to drink water first thing in the morning. Today is officially 3 weeks for my since gastric bypass. It literally feels like my pouch is closed early in the morning. I have never thrown up or anything. It can about 1.5 - 2 hours to get down a 8-10oz shake. Has anyone else experienced this???? I don’t have this problem any other time of day. Only breakfast. Thanks in advance ????

I’m reposting this cause I put it in the wrong forum. I had my bypass over 20 yrs ago and have struggled from day one to eat protein, especially meat and beans. They make me throw up or they just sit there and fester in my tummy. I’m doing a keto diet cause it makes me feel better not to eat bread and pasta. My family doc doesn’t know anything except broken bones and colds so I don’t know what to tell him I need checked. Has anyone had this issue? I have lost so much hair the last few months because I need protein and I can’t seem to get enough. I’m also milk intolerant. Any suggestions?

Hello everyone!!!! It has officially been 1 month since I I went gastric bypass. I am currently down 32lbs. On my surgery date 11/23/2021 I was 276lbs. Today I am 244.6 lbs. This month is been CRAZY. Especially the last week or so. I’ve been extremely week, but speaking with my RN and dietician we determined I’m not getting enough calories and I am in ketosis. I will be speaking with my surgeon today as well just to see if there is anything else that he would add. Besides the lack of energy, I feel pretty good. I had an issue with acid reflux, but a little Prilosec and zofran cleared that right up. I also have been put on monthly B12 injections. Just giving a one month u…

Hello Bariatric Buddies (corny right? lol) I thought I'd come on here and share my experience so far for those who may be thinking about weight loss surgery OR are scheduled to undergo surgery soon. I started my bariatric surgery journey May 4th 2021 after YEARS of wanting to do it but not having the courage to start. At that point i was 298LBS. At my heaviest i was 305LBS. What prompted me to just go for it and conquer my fears was just wanting to be healthy again. I was tired of making excuses and as sad as it sounds i was tired of looking in the mirror every day staring at myself morphing into this person i no longer wanted to be. Fortunately for me, i didn't…

Hi all I am due to have my bypass surgery on 4th January and am ready to start my liver reducing diet. I was due to see the dietician tomorrow but she cancelled due to illness. So far all I have had is one zoom call with the surgeon and two letters, one confirming op date and one for the now cancelled dietician appointment with some info on the pre op diet. I have read through this forum and notice that people have had pre op bloods, had to lose weight to have the surgery, had to see the psychiatrist, anaesthetist etc. but I have literally seen nobody and my op is in 3 weeks! I am paying privately for the op, so not on the nhs, and it with a reputable company…

So I had plastic surgery 3 weeks ago tomorrow. My surgery included belt lipectomy/360 tummy tuck, and breast lift with augmentation. Recovery has been tougher than I expected due to fatigue. I went back to work (RN in a large clinic) last Monday. The fatigue was unreal. On Tuesday, one of the doctors I work with decided I should be checked for anemia. I popped over to our lab and had a quick blood draw. I had finished lunch about 45 prior to getting the blood drawn. The next day when I received my lab results, I was surprised to see my blood glucose was 59. ? I do not dump, so I have been eating more simple carbs and sugars to try to keep from losing more weight. I had be…

So I am just barely 7 months in my gastric bypass. I am actually beside myself. I am unable to eat pretty much anything. All meats or textured foods that I put to my lips, I actually start throwing up. My diet consists of broth... There might be an occasional cooked, really cooked carrot ,celery maybe onions. I developed a hernia and that was just repaired. My surgery has left me weak and malnutrition. I've lost 89 pounds and 7 months. I have a numbing from my legs to my boobs. I am looking for help, or any Ideas as to why? My surgeon advised me that it was all psychological. How when I wanna eat so badly. If there is anyone with some insight or ideas of what I might b…

Everything has gone by so fast. I had my gastric bypass on Monday 11/29. I'm Finnish so I did my surgery in Finland. Everything went well and the nurses were amazing, the whole experience was loving and calm. I feel extremely grateful for that. On Tuesday I could go home after getting in my 1000 ml of liquids. I never felt nausea, pain or discomfort why drinking and I tried to walk as much as I could. Gas pain was very difficult Wednesday and Tuesday. It's slowly leaving now, Friday. I've taken pain meds every evening and sometimes during the day if I get pain, but I'm trying to manage with the little pain I have. I'm excited for what's to come, it feels like a huge life…

Has anyone struggled with being told you're pale all the time? I have always had rosy cheeks. Surgery was 11/18 and I ended up having to have a 2nd surgery the following day due to vomiting blood. They said they removed a clot, and i was fine after but apparently lost a bit of blood. I still get told every day how pale I look and also still get out of breath from very little activity. Anyone else deal with this?

I'm just going to take it a day at a time, forge ahead...I didn't come this far just to come this far! ?

I am 21 months post RNY and I am still losing weight. My HW 325 (2/20/20), SW 311 (3/9/20), CW 133. I had an abdominoplasty on 10/27/21 (weighed 145, no lipo due to little to no body fat, and I don't know what amount was removed). I saw my NP today for pist abdominoplasty and then an emergency illness x2 following abdominoplasty stay in hospital same week for bowel obstruction. My labs are normal, my NP says I am healthy BUT, I am on the low weight end and just a few pounds from being underweight according to their standards. She advised me to add in healthy fats (nuts, nut butters, avocado daily), 2 protein shakes, 3 meals, 3 snacks. I just can't eat all of that.…

I had a gastric bypass the day before thanksgiving and there’s one area that is still hurting very bad to the point I can hardly stand up. I spoke with a nurse at my doctors office and she said that during the procedure my bowel had been knicked so they had to put in a “deep stitch”. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this

Hi all! I am 18 months post gastric bypass. The experience has been great and I have not had any complications. My biggest issue is reactive hypoglycemia. When I eat too much sugar and/or carbs, my blood sugar tanks about an hour after. Does anyone else struggle with this? Any tips or tricks to better manage? I know it is completely diet related.

I'd love a list of things I need, and a list of things I won't need at the hospital. Last time was 2010, I can't remember everything. Seems like chap stick is good. A night gown and robe was not necessary, one was provided. Mouthwash, toothpaste and toothbrush. Panties, lose sweat pants and shirt to wear home. Do bypass patients stay over night? I remember someone told me to take a pillow to put between me and the seatbelt. Great advice. The pillow was also good in case I needed to cough or sneeze!!! Any more ideas?

Oh my goodness. My incisions have been so itchy yesterday and today. Today was the first day that I could take an actual shower and I thought that would help. No dice. Has anyone else experienced this???? I’m thinking of getting some children’s Benadryl to help. It’s about to drive me crazy.

Does anyone have sensitivity and a weird pain near the incision area, under the skin right by the navel? I went to the emergency room and they did a cat scan and said everything looks well, and that it could be scar tissue. [emoji848] All I know is I don't like that feeling. Might I add it just started a week ago and I'm now 7 month Post Op gastric bypass.

Hi! I have surgery on the 10th of this month and I am prepping all my things to do before hand so I'm fully prepared. One of my main concern is starting to work out again. I haven't been to the gym in over 5 years and I won't lie, I miss it! I just want to know when it's safe to start hitting the gym and when is it recommended to start lifting weights? I want to lose all this weight first but also gain muscle. Any tips?
