Here is me just shy of my heaviest of 365 lbs. I started my Weight loss journey June 2020. I lost about 35 pre surgery which was January 4, 2021. I also have had to have a revision due to a perforated ulcer mid July. I am now down a total of 120 lbs. it’s amazing the difference I feel. My 5 year old can actually sit in my lap… because I have one now! I can see my feet when I weigh myself. I don’t have to lean against a wall to wipe after using the bathroom, or to clean myself in the shower. I can buckle my seatbelt with out getting out of breath. I now consider myself ‘normal’ fat because I actually blend in with a crowd rather than standing out as the largest in a room! …

I've been working lately on staying grounded and motivated. I'm now 3 months before I can get approved for surgery so I still have a little bit of time. I've been changing my eating habits on my own and have lost 10 lbs in a month. While I'm working on it with a psychologist, my biggest saboteur is not food - it's myself. I have had a history of telling myself I won't make it, so in turn I fail. I'm now learning the art of self compassion and how shame is not a motivator of change. Sometimes I fear the self hatred thinking patterns will creep back in but I keep reminding myself that treating myself poorly is what got me here in the first place. So, from mental exerci…

I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and my doctor says there is nothing she can do to help me other than using Voltaren Gel and compression gloves…She says I just need to learn to live with it. I wake each morning with my hand crippled and unable to bend my fingers as they are stuck bent and hurts like hell. Is anyone taking medications for RA? If so, what and if you have had any major issues with medications?

Hello. It’s been a while since I posted here but I have been busy figuring out how to get past a months long stall and some sugar addiction. First, I found out that I have lipedema which is a connective tissue disorder. It’s an abnormal collection of fat that is no longer in it’s original spongy condition. It is literally scar tissue and adhesions under the skin that do not let go of fat easily. I have huge amounts of it on the lower body and some on my arms. The change that worked for me was specific exercises using a vibration plate on the fat deposits and other mechanisms that can be found on the internet. Second, I ended up switching to healthy keto and that made a gr…

So I have been vomiting blood! I called Dr office and left message with answering service. They called me back and it was a dr I didn't know standing in for my dr. She suggested prilosec bc it could be an ulcer. When I called I had only thrown up once today with blood. Well now I've thrown up since I've been home about 4x and all have deep red color still. She said something about basically resting the rest of the wknd taking it easy on foods and that shed let my dr know what was going on and that I may need an endoscopy. My daughter just got home from buying the prilocec for me and I am Literally scared to try to swallow it. I barely even ate anything at the restauran…

A few things I wasn't expecting 5 months out from surgery. 6. I would have to get smaller shoes. I was a size ten 1/2 in shoes and now 8.5. 5. Also always being cold, I wear thermals almost every day to work , but I live in a cold environment. I always wear a scarf. 4. Loosing hair was a bit traumatic for me, but it has stabilized 3. the amount of time I think of food has been transferred into new coping skills, like crafts with yarn and having fun science experiments with my kids. 2. the need for silence to be alone with my thoughts. 1. how anxious I get when buying new clothes. what are some surprise that you had?

Hi friends, I know a lot of people have these feelings I’m feeling right now. 5 weeks po on tuesday and I’m just so depressed. Not because I miss food but because of the struggle of getting in food and water and vitamins all while I can barely hold an ounce of food in at a time. Some days I feel incredible. Then the next, nausea hits me like a bus. Yesterday I got 28 ounces of water in. Today I’m focusing on just liquids to rehydrate but I’m so depressed it just feels like a chore. I’m also terrified to start soft foods. I tried eggs recently and they messed me Up bad. Anything that’s not puree mostly makes me feel so ill. I hate to say it but at this stage I’m regre…

Ugh…2cm Hiatal Hernia was discovered during an upper endoscopy this week. I’m 16 months post op RNY and have never had a HH in my life. I’m trying to figure out how it happened and wondering if anyone else out here has gone through similar? Omeprazole every morning and being very careful is managing it so far. I’d prefer not to have another surgery as long as risk is minimal. Have my follow up with gastro guy in 10 days but/and wondering if anyone else has gone through this. Thanks.

I had a gastric bypass in January of this year. After that one of my most favorite snacks were the quest protein chips! They have almost 20 g of protein and 150 cal. So so so good! I just had to have a revision last week due to a perforated ulcer. My new favorite is cottage cheese with powdered peanut butter, or cottage cheese with some sugar-free Jell-O sprinkled over it!

Hi, I am three months out from surgery. When I eat certain foods, they don't go down smoothly like for example bread would. Can anyone else describe how that might feel to them or is it just me? I am having a really hard time describing it. It feels peculiar sometimes. So aside from having dumping syndrome (which I do sometimes when I eat something too sweet or high in fat) and simply feeling sick for three hours, what words would anyone else use to describe how your stomach feels when certain foods go down and don't quite 'sit' well? Some foods seem to almost coat your stomach and feel good, others not so much. But I can't seem to find the exact words to better describe …

Hi..my name is Glenda J Pierce and I just found this forum by searching things they dont tell you about gastric bypass. This is my story and I am wondering if anyone who had gastric bypass when it was in early stages of RNY in 2001has experienced any of the same issues and are afraid to talk about it because you are ashamed. I was for 15 years until it started making me sick..I came near death in april 2016. First let me preface this by fianlly getting sent to a Gastric Bypass Surgeon who literally said to me"this is why they dont do those kind of surgeries anymore".

Hi. I had a lap band and then revised to sleeve. Lost over 100 lbs with band and then 40 something more with sleeve. I have to have a revision due to gerd and other complications from my sleeve. Luckily, I did not lose any of my hair on either procedures listed above... And I know losing weight is much slower after each revision so maybe I'll be lucky again this time around. I was wondering if any of you lost your hair after revising from sleeve to bypass. Thank you in advance.

Tuesday I’ll be 1 month post op. I was doing so well my first week post op. Getting all my water and protein. Ever since week two days have been hit or miss. I keep water down but food makes me so nauseous. I don’t know what to do. Protein shakes, eggs, lactose… all makes me sick. I’ve thrown up multiple times a week lately. Today I woke up and felt so hungry but I couldn’t keep anything down. I feel like such a failure and so defeated. I regret doing this most days and I feel so alone.

Hi, I've recently gotten through The Big Book on the Gastric Bypass, and I felt pretty secure in my decision to go through with it (my first appointment with the surgeon is July 8th). But a friend went on a diatribe, and now looking for more information. A few of the things she said: -That people who've had weight loss surgery often have health problems because of the surgery (I know problems happen, but not at which percentages, etc) -That these health problems lead to untimely death, such as heart failure from the low calorie diet, and that these deaths are not reported as being connected to the WLS, so the number of deaths from WLS appear lower than th…

I had surgery May 04, 2021. I am 10 weeks out and have not lost a lb in several weeks and am only 26 lbs down total. I started at 216 and I was a very restrictive eater before surgery had been for years. Never ate over 1500 calories a day. Very insulin resistant. Any one else have this type of issue? Did I waste my money even doing this? I just feel defeated at the moment watching everyone else have success.

A wee bit of humor in the title, but how many bites of food do you say you average in a meal? I am 21 days post op and still can't feel my pouch, so I can tend to overeat. How many standard size bites of food would you say you eat in a meal? I think if I can measure bites, say 3-5 bites, then I will know to stop eating. Im not typically in a position to measure via ounces during my days at work. What are your thoughts?

I am now 5 months from surgery. I've had horrible food aversions but some of that is easing. I can now eat bacon again. Before, it was disgusting. The same can be said of a few other foods. I'd love to be able to tolerate chicken but it's still off the menu. I am taking tasteless GENEPRO twice a day, 60 grams to keep my protien up and it is giving me some strength back. Also, I've switched to a 1 a day bariatric vitamin. Weight loss as of now is 118 pounds and my goal is 210 pounds. Hope this encourages some who are struggling. Stick with it.

Hi there, contemplating on getting RNY. I have just a couple of questions. 1. Was your hair able to grow back after things stabilized? And did you use anything for it to grow back or just let nature take its course? 2. Were you ever able to skip taking vitamins everyday, and still have your lab reports come back okay? I mean is it okay to skip some days in case life gets in the way etc. 3. What is your Vitamin schedule? Good ones to take etc, bet time to take them? 4. How many hours after a meal are you able to eat another same size meal again? Thanks so much! :)

I had rny 2 weeks ago and I think I’m going through dumping syndrome. I think I ate too fast and had a sip of water. I ate ricotta bake. Can y’all please tell me what your experience is like? Mine is stomach feels like Charlie horse cramp in my stomach followed with cold chills. This is happening every few minutes. Then I feel nauseated and want to puke but I’m dry heaving. Any ideas or facts how to make this feel better should I be drinking water during this?? I don’t know. And it’s lasted 1 hour and a half. Help plz.

Hey there! Just putting my feelers out there. Has anyone had to switch their psychiatric meds to qualify for weight loss surgery? If I get approved for surgery, I'll need to switch from Latuda to Abilify because of Latuda's caloric requirement. To give some insight I have bi polar disorder and require a mood stabilizer. I'm afraid of abilify because it's not metabolically friendly. Has anyone had experience with this? Thanks everyone!

Hey there. I wanted to just see what other people's experiences were with their consultation, especially those with either eating disorders or other mental health diagnoses. I was recently diagnosed with bipolar disorder and have been on meds for about 2.5 months. My mental state has improved a lot and I have more cognitive ability to make good choices for myself. When I went in for my consultation for gastric bypass, I was incredibly candid with my doctor. I told him about how I've lost 70 lbs in the past by fasting and extreme workouts but sadly I gained it all back plus some because of the binge restricr cycle. I went on to talk about my rocky relationship with food …

The trend and overwhelming amount of people not honest hurts others who need surgery and also keeps the stigma alive. Most people will talk there loved one out of it because of shame and ignorance. Trust me I'd like to pretend I lost weight by all the sudden eating correct and exercising but thats in itself sick. Your medical care isnt public but would you tell people you had cancer and instead of chemo you just walked and went to weight watchers? I'm not shaming you lol sorry I am tense but I wish anyone who is neurologically ill will never use an app or be ok which is ridiculous considering the routine and millions who have been operated on. …

I had my bypass on June 14th, and the pain has been excruciating. I've had two c sections and this is much worse by far. The percocet barely takes the edge off. I'm struggling to get all my fluids in. I am passing gas but no bowel movement yet. This is seriously the most uncomfortable I've ever been in my whole life. Please tell me this gets better ?

I'm on here in my head. Lol I started my journey at 281 and when I had surgery I weighed 258. In May I had to have surgery, a permanknee fusion on my left leg. Rod runs from my hip to my ankle. So needless to say exercise is still hard rt now. I have to use a cane to walk. So I'm down to 216 but thats only like 10lbs a month. I've lost down and alot of inches but I feel depressed. I see so many that was at my weight at surgery and are finally below 200.. This journey is more than a food tool. Its emotional. I try not to judge my weight loss by others weight loss but its so hard.

Got home from the hospital this afternoon - stayed 2 days. Not gonna lie, still feel pretty rough. Surgery apparently went fine, did the bypass and fixed a hernia. The stay in the hospital wasn't great. My IV infiltrated twice so my right arm is blown up like a balloon. I'm up 12 pounds from all the fluid in me. Sporting my stylish compression stockings for the next 2 weeks. Looking forward to getting through Sunday when I can finally have some soup. Still no regrets.
