  1. Hi everyone! I am having surgery on March 16th and am concerned about absorption of my antidepressants post surgery. Has anyone experienced absorption issues and what did you do to control it? Help!

So I'm at a loss, the smell of food now makes me sick to my stomach especially when my family eats fast food. I struggled with eating because everything would come up, found out I had a small stricture. Had the procedure last week and have been trying to eat but nothing. Everything I've tried has come back up again and it tastes disgusting I mean just vile. The only thing that stayed down was refried beans from a local Mexican restaurant and when I eat Greek yogurt but I'm getting tired of it. I cant even drink my protein drinks they make me throw up mucus. I know this won't last for ever but I have no clue what to do and I'm hungry. Has anyone else experienced this? Any…

Hi all! I'm 24 and my surgery is 02/22. I'm kind feeling isolated, being younger and making such a drastic lifestyle change. Everyone my age in my life can't relate to this so I wanted to reach out to some peers! What stage are you at? How will you spend your free time now that food is a fraction of it? Once you're at goal what are looking forward to doing? Those are just suggestions, but feel free time share any and ALL THINGS!!

Wow I was feeling excited about the smooth sailing way the process has been so far...until I get home from work and go through mail. So I received a letter from Cigna stating they need more information, to determine if surgery is medically necessary. Should I be worried? I mean I do have a bmi if 45 and pcos. Has thus happened to anyone?...if so did you finally get approved?

Is this normal,,, I don't feel stomach pain or another symptoms. Please share your experience [emoji120] Till date I have lost 22kg and the doctor is giving me a positive feedback [emoji5]

13 days out from surgery 10 lbs down... I haven't been eating. Eating is a hassle. When I do eat I either give up or don't eat the right thing. I don't put me or my staples in danger of course. I'm just not meeting protein requirements in the slightest. I'm writing this post because I know there are a lot of other who feel like they've just been getting it wrong since Week 1 of surgery, and I just want to say that its never too late to turn it around. This isn't like all the other times! I'm not looking for motivation, encouragement, a lecture or anything else. I'm just calling myself out for bad behaviour because I'm a big know-it-all who is mi…

Hi, I’m 4weeks out from gastric bypass surgery, and just the other day I attempted some moist cooked shredded chicken to get my protein in ,I honestly didn’t think I ate too much maybe a little too fast but about several minutes later the pain started ( remember thus was my first time). Well it hurt, I sat there going “this is not fun wow , So now I get to experience the dreaded it’s stuck!, well I fought it but then It came up!! more than anything it honestly wiped me out..my question is when does it get better??!

Im following my doctors orders and eating 3 3oz meals a day.. Getting under 600 calories, 60-80 grams of protein, and keeping my carbs sugars and fats very very low.. I walk between 3&5 miles a day and i drink plenty of fluids.. I just dont understand.. My mom had the same surgery and lost so much weight so fast.. Its so discouraging.. How do you break a stall?? I almost just want to go on liquids again..

Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone has any idea if there is a supplement we can take in lieu of the shakes. They're making me sick and I cannot stand the disgusting protein powder. I am 1 week and a few days out and I'm struggling to get the protein in. I just can't take the taste of the shakes anymore.

My endocrinologist ordered some bloodwork last week and (surprise, surprise) I have iron deficiency. I was slightly iron deficient before the surgery as well. I've been taking BariMelts iron + vitamin C with 54 mg of iron per day. The endocrinologist suggested I take the iron supplements twice a day, and that makes me nervous because I know too much iron can be toxic. Google tells me the maximum recommended iron dosage is 45 mg per day, and I'm already over that. I realize some of the normal rules go out the window for bariatric patients, but my bariatric program only recommends 45-65 mg per day. Dr. Matthew Weiner has a video on YouTube about supplements after …

So after I lost all the water weight from surgery, I lost 10lbs- all by week 1.5. Now? Nothing. I'm just past my 2 week mark now. Did I get the infamous 3 week stall early? Also sick of feeling kinda crappy multiple times per day. And who has time to eat 8x per day?? And do they really expect it to take 1/2 hour + to eat 2oz of food?? Very frustrated.

My gastric bypass was two years ago yesterday, and I'm happy to report that things are going well. I gained about ten pounds during maintenance, and in retrospect I think that my low weight of 132 was too thin. (I never dreamed two years ago that I would be saying those words!). I feel like I am eating "normally," though in smaller quantities and without most of the junk I ate when I was obese. I still avoid sugar, carbs and fat, but I've gotten a bit more relaxed about indulging from time to time. I celebrated my two-year anniversary with a huge piece of cake washed down with an ice-cold Coke. (Just kidding--I ate my usual diet!) I'm attaching a photo take…

My team says it is part of my body adjustments but I am nervous. Currently I have lost more tha half my volume of hair, everytime I stand I feel like I will pass out and my skin tears so easily that it is scary. I am wondering if anyone has any input to share. I will be revising from Lap Band to Bypass soon. I am PETRIFIED of dumping! I have partial dentures and the last thing I need is to puke them into the toilet! Also, I LOVE chocolate and ice cream and would love to eat a mouthful occasionally after maybe 6 months post-op. Also I'd like to know if you have a problem with any fried foods? The only thing I eat now that is fried is an occasional flounder filet. Please tell me at how many months post-op did you re-introduced sugar and fried and what happened. Was the reaction immediately after eating them or delayed? I'm hoping I will be able to tolerate them down the path.... I am also concerned about becoming lactose intolera…

I’m 2 days gastric bypass post op and I’m in so much pain I can’t get comfortable in any position. All I have for pain is the onQ bag and there’s a little leakage from the spot where that catheter is. I also can’t drink more than 1 oz an hour in tiny sips because drinking hurts. I’m also very bloated and up 10lbs from all the IV fluids. I see all these posts where people feel great a couple days out. I’m a little scared that something is wrong. Has anyone else experienced this?

I’ve experienced a few times where I need to rush to the bathroom after eating. It was very obvious last night it was due to eating a small amount of nonfat (but w/sugar) frozen yogurt. I guess I thought dumping syndrome was super painful? My experience is not painful but it does involve the need to immediately go to the bathroom. Is that one type of dumping syndrome?

Hello everyone, I had my surgery 15 days ago and the healing process has been going well until I’ve started having these episodes of heartburn about 4 days ago. On Monday of week 2 (this past Monday), my doctor said I could eat soft proteins. I tried a few times through the week and they upset my stomach each time so I went back to full liquids on Thursday. Since then, I’ve been experiencing heartburn daily which only goes away for a few hours when I take a Pepcid tablet. I was also taking my multivitamin and calcium supplements in solid pill form while I wait for my dissolvable tablets to come in the mail. I asked if it was safe since they are somewhat large pills a…

Today is officially my 1 month post bypass, and I've only lost 16lbs. I had a gnarly 2.5 week stall, but I barely eat anything- I feel like I should be losing more. 16 lbs. in a month is nothing to sneeze at, but I thought It'd be a little more. Are my expectations too high? I've been struggling to get in enough fluids too. Just feeling a bit disheartened.

Hi guys! I had a gastric bypass R-n-Y in Latvia in 2011. All went well, and I have now a BMI at 20,4. Two weeks ago I had severe cramps in my stomache, and my GP sent me to hospital to "take a look" with a tube down my throat (don't know what it's called in english - gastroscopy?) The doctor found that I have GERD, inflammation in my eating tube (?) due to defect muscle between the pouch and this eating tube. This hurts so bad. Acid-medication doesn't help. I have called a hospital in my homecountry (not Latvia), and asked if it is possible to remove the pouch, and thereby get rid of the inflammation and acid problems. And they could do it. Has any of you d…

HELP!!! I am a little over a year post op. I am just now hearing about macros. From what I read, 1g of protein is 4 calories 1g of carbs is 4 calories and 1g of fat is 9 calories. Is it accurate that I should be eating 180 grams of protein a day?! What about carbs!? 75g of carbs! This is if I eat 1200 calories a day 60% of that being protein 25% being carbs and 15% being fat. PLEASE HELP ME. I am sooo confused. What the heck do I need to be eating! I am female, 30 years old, 5'6" and 205-210lbs (ish). Macros thoroughly confuse me!!

The day of my 3 week post surgery date I hit a stall that’s latest a week so far. Do you promise it will break? I am still haunted by my dieting days when I’d stall and then throw in the towel. I know it’s different now - I just wish this didn’t happen so quickly in the process.

  29. In pain at the hospital, but yesterday was worse. I hope the rest of you 02/22 people are doing well. I'm able to sip and walk around just fine though! They weren't kidding about the gas, it's more painful than the incisions to be honest.

Hi there! I'm new here, but am super excited to have found an online forum to participate in while I go on this journey. I am (hopefully) going to be getting gastric bypass at MUSC in the coming months. I'll be self-pay (dang insurance exclusions) so slightly less hoops to jump through, but I have not yet met with the surgeon or anything. My initial consult is March 1st. I kind of wanted to share what my "breaking point" was that ultimately resulted in the call to schedule a consult, and maybe see if other people would share theirs in the hopes that I am not alone. Be warned that it may be TMI for some people, and is definitely not something I have shared with anyone in m…

hi everyone, im very new here, decided to join because i had the gastric sleeve about a year ago, September 17th, 2019, and since i left the hospital and went back home to Europe, im not from the states, i started losing weight pretty quickly. the constant not feeling a 100 wasn't a problem for me since i had decided before hand to give myself time and dedicate my time to only this, losing the weight and get myself back to normal. i ever quit my job since i have the possibility of being self sustained for a while. so i just went on, eating very little, resting whenever i could. everything was going fine, since at the time of the surgery i was 310 lbs and now i am 160…

  32. Hi all. I am not very active here, but I am struggling lately and just have a couple of questions. I started back to university in January, which I'm so glad I was able to, but it has been exhausting and I don't think it really should be. I am also from Texas, so we are still going through some pretty awful stuff at the moment. My family (5 kids, my husband, and I) made it out unscathed for the most part and got very lucky we only lost power for about 8 hours. I was pretty scared of being without power so we risked travel on icy highways to travel to my mom's house since she has a generator. We left to come back home because I was afraid of our pipes bursting and the…

I am 10 weeks post op and would appreciate any advice. My protein goal from dietitian is 70gram per day (she calculates based on goal weight of 70kg) I use protein powder in my coffee which provides 15 grams of protein. No problem drinking 2 or 3 cups over the course of the day. However I know I am not eating healthy. I am finding it very difficult to get my protein from actual foods as the quantity I can eat is small. Can you please share how you reach your protein goal.

Hello, I am scheduled to have gastric bypass surgery in a few weeks. What’s unique about my surgery is that at the same time I am having a small GIST tumor resected so I’ll be having a partial gastrectomy as well. My doctor said it will be very easy to remove and everything should be fine. Just wondering if anyone experienced this and was the surgery or recovery time longer than just having gastric bypass surgery. Thanks!

  44. Started by amyseattle,

Ok, now hear me out. I had a little yogurt and two bites of chicken breast last night for dinner and never felt the stuffed feeling or even full feeling. I’m three weeks out from surgery. About 10 minutes later I noticed the calcium chew samples that I will need to start in a few days so I thought I’d test one. The minute I ate it I ran to the bathroom thinking I had to throw up but instead experienced the dreaded foamie thing for two hours. What did I do wrong? It’s not blatantly obvious to me because I didn’t overeat at dinner. I never want to experience that again- I’m sure I will, but if there is an obvious reason PLEASE share!

It is currently 2 weeks after my Gastric Bypass in Jan. I know its just the beginning & its going to take time. But I do have a couple of questions. 1. I am having a bit difficulty drinking water. I didn't have any problems with water, I drank 6-8 cups of water, if not more. Now when I take even two sips of water my chest and back hurts, likes its full. I follow my doctor direction not to drink at least 30 minutes after eating. I am hardly getting 1 bottle in a day. I push thru the pain to drink an 16oz bottle. I was able to drink it more easier with crystal light mixed in which was only twice (or maybe it was perfect timing where everything was going smoothly in…
