Hi everyone. I am one year and six months post op gastric bypass surgery. I originally had a sleeve but got a revision due to bile reflux and a hiatal hernia. It seems like I am constantly nauseous off and one. Some days nothing and other days it's terrible. I have had a lot of testing done and I was told some can just have this post op. I have tried a ton of different medications and no luck. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly helpful and appreciated. Thank you!

Hi there. I am reaching the six month mark post op RYGB. I really struggled with a long period of a stall since early December. I did lose my way with eating over that period of time but I have been doing better over the last two weeks. I decided to stop eating sugar free pudding, coconut ice milk, Mac and cheese cups and crackers with hummus. I’ve been eating whole grains such as farro and sorghum made in a porridge with almond milk, blueberries, vanilla and cinnamon. I used a Splenda/ brown sugar combination to sweeten the porridge with 1 tablespoon of maple syrup. The sorghum porridge is very filling and very high in fiber. I’ve been eating lots of poached fish. So far…

I am going to be celebrating my one year postop gastric bypass surgery at Disney World! Problem is I’m trying to figure out how to stay hydrated and eat healthy snacks every two hours so that I don’t lose weight on this trip because I’m already under white. Any suggestions?

How did everyone come up with their goal weight? Beside the initial appointment no one on my medical team has talked about a one, and that was just asking me where I’d like to be. My personal is 181 the weight I was when I graduated boot camp in 1994.

I had gastric bypass surgery yesterday morning and believe it or not,a day later and I am feeling pretty good. Very bloated from the air they pumped into me but no nausea or severe pain. I see I have gained about 9 pounds from the IV fluids they were giving me in the hospital but I am sure they will come off soon enough. Has anyone else experienced this? Has anyone else had the experience of feeling better than you thought you would? Reading some of the forums before my procedure had me really scared.

Anyone have issues with their tongue feeling slightly numb and the tastebuds on the tip of the tongue seem dead? I'm 11 months post op mini gastric bypass and I've had this for the last 8 months and it won't go away. B12 levels are good. All labs are, actually.

I had my surgery on December 22,2020 and I thought I would have lost more than I have. I know when you have less to lose you lose slower, but it still frustrating that I've only lost 11pounds in 6weeks. My doctor wants to see another 10 to 15 pounds come off before the end of the month. Which I think I can manage, but when I try to talk to family or friends even those who have had surgery all I get in response is "try harder. You aren't doing enough" or "you'll get there be patient." It feels like the support I'm receiving is half hearted and I just wish they could back me up a little more. It's been hard finding friends that understand and I just want someone who gets it…

To all my RNY people, can you tolerate high fats? Like high fat sauces and dressings with your food? Are you able to do a high fat low carb diet once you start eating solids? Or did it take a while?

So, I was getting my hair cut today and was talking to the women cutting my hair (not someone I've seen before). We started talking about how there isn't much to do right now because we are still pretty limited. I mentioned I was out hiking yesterday since being outside is one of the things we can do. She said that must be why I'm so skinny I've NEVER, not once before been called skinny...

I think I’ve been reading too many negative posts about WLS. And now I am having anxiety. I just need a little reassurance. FEARS: I won’t wake up after surgery I won’t lose weight I’ll have a lot of loose skin and look worse than I do now. I’ll have some type of major issue after surgery. I’ll be in excruciating pain. I know these fears are normal and I know most of this stuff isn’t true I would just like to hear some positive stories.

I know this is not really going to get answers but maybe someone might have some insight. I have lifelong chronic illness and disability. A challenge is being sensitive to medications and side effects and having allergic reactions (my list of antibiotics I am allergic to is growing) It started with Umbilical area pain that radiated upward to the right shoulder blade area like spasms. Admittedly I am also dealing with diverticulitis issues, bleeding and pain I'm not sure the source as well as Interstitial cystitis. My gastric bypass surgery inadvertently revealed a form of neurological dysphagia I have difficulty drinking thin liquids. landing in hospital with aspiration p…

Hi so I'm new here and was wandering if anyone else is going through the same? I'm 13 days PO and I've barely lost anything. Week one I was so excited to weigh but I lost nothing! I've never heard of anyone who didn't lose alot week 1. Into week 2 and I'm only down 6Ibs and I realy dont know why. I'm sticking to everything I'm supposed to, barely managing 3 to 500 calories a day and havent cheated with anything. Has anyone had similar problem? My clinic just told me up my protein but I should still be in liquid stage. Tia

My twin brother and I have just gotten our surgery date for Gastric Bypass surgery. We are scheduled for 1/28/20. We will go in together on the same day with the same surgeon. We are excited to go through the process together. It will be nice to have each other as a support system but still a little nervous about what to expect the first few weeks after surgery. So happy to have found this app. Does anyone have any pointers?

12 days post RNY I feel fine, no pain, no discomfort I can drink water easily, 2-4 regular sips in a row. I can eat 1/2 cup or 4 oz of food in one meal without any discomfort. I think I could actually eat more, but I don't plate more food. I finish what I plate though. Ex: 1/2 cup of blended chili with 1 oz ff greek yogurt, 2oz grilled cod with 2 oz cottage cheese and slice of grilled tomato, 1 egg mashed and 2oz of mashed cauliflower, etc. These seem like big meals. They are all in my NUT's sample menu but at the upper limit of allowed portions. I called NUT and she just said to chew slowly and stop after 30 min. I do chew slow and still finish within 30 min. The th…

I had my gastric bypass done Oct 23rd. While in the hospital immediately following surgery I developed loose bowels. Still as of today Jan 5th I still have this issue. I constantly feel nauseous and get frequent urges to go, which I always end up going. I'm following all directions, and when I advised the doctors/PA/dietian, etc... They all say the nausea will go away. If I'd have known my body was going to react this way I would have definitely rethought about it. I'm now also dealing with my 2nd UTI in a month! I have another appointment scheduled on the 13th but I'm not feeling optimistic. Anyone else with these issues, if so any suggestions?

I've been lurking here and reading for several months. I had RNY 12/14/20. I had saved leave time to cover my recovery so I was able to take a full 4 weeks off. That was a good decision as it allowed me to fully focus on liquids, protein and recovery. I returned to work this week. It has gone well but does require me to plan what I am going to take to work for food and drink. While I was home, I was able to simply choose from whatever appropriate choice was in the frig. My thoughts and observations so far: I have not had one single problem. I've had no pain, no nausea and have not needed any of the medication I was provided for those. I have no problem meeti…

Hi all: I’m new here and wanted to join to find support and information on others’ experiences. I am five days out from surgery and I’m struggling with vomiting. Sorry to be gross, but I’m trying so hard to get my fluids down because I am deathly afraid I will get dehydrated. I am so thirsty- I wish I could chug an entire bottle of water but obviously i cannot do that. I have tried sipping water with a spoon, sucking on ice chips- but every day I find myself extremely nauseous in the evening to the point where I throw up. Anyone have a similar experience? Will this subside or do I need to call the doc?

Hello all, I have been out of surgery for about 6 hours, and I am just trying to navigate everything. Most of what they told me at the hospital was when I was too drugged up to comprehend it all. Firstly, I have been sleeping all day, but getting up to walk every 2 hours. How long do these mini walks to avoid blood clots need to last? Is it okay for me to continue sleeping while doing this until I am not tired anymore? I hardly got any sleep last night, because my brain was all over the place. I have also been almost vomiting, which just ends up being a burp. I can't really control it. Is that okay at this point? I am terrified of damaging anything. Any advice is greatly…

I had surgery on December 21st. I have lost close to 30 pounds since my pre-op visit. My doctor said losing 3 pounds a week is about average. This morning I weighed myself and I had gained 2 pounds. Has anyone else had this happen? And if so, is there a reason behind it?

Today is my 1 year surgeversary and despite everything going on in the world, its been a pretty good year. Since 12/31/2019 I am: - Down 120 lbs from surgery (161.5 total) - in the "normal" BMI range, for the first time in my adult life - almost half of my weight (and will be when I reach goal) My favorite NSVs - My knees, what finally got me to have the surgery, feel SO much better - I'm walking most days, anywhere from 1.5-2 miles and it feels so good both physically and mentally - I want to be out and experiencing life again, v. being so tired at the end of the day and just wanting to sit on the couch - I eat completely differently from before, and…

I’m writing this because I think I just need someone to listen. I had my surgery on 11/03, and now, almost 3 months later, I regret it deeply. But I don’t regret it for the same reasons that most people regret it. My surgeon says that I’m doing well. I’m getting the result that I wanted, and I didn’t go into this with any unrealistic expectations. I’ve found plenty of foods that I can eat, and truth be told, I can eat foods that a lot of BariatricPal surgery patients can’t. I was concerned before surgery that I’d have trouble tolerating potatoes, bananas, and eggs. I like all of those and have always eaten them frequently. Fortunately, I still can. I’ve had no problem…

My coordinator submitted me documents on 1/7 with a surgery date of 2/16. I still can't get a hold of my case nurse. At first when I called to check my status they said it's still under review and I'm not missing anything. They have until 1/22 to give me an answer. I called today to check on the status still pending and now I'm being told they have until 1/28 to give me a answer. How hard is it to look at five things. No matter how many times they review it what's on the documents won't change. Super frustrated.

Hi all- Wondering if anyone has tried to help along their healing and inflammation with cryotherapy sessions. I know it’s unconventional, but I have tried cryotherapy for back pain and it really helped. It supposedly takes care of inflammation, so since my doc says the big problem right after surgery is swelling, I thought i would look into it. Anyone have any experience with it? I welcome your thoughts!

I had my first "learning experience" yesterday. I frequently make a big pan of roasted vegetables (mini potatoes, sweet peppers, onion, mushrooms) for a side dish. I had successfully eaten small amounts prior. However, yesterday's veggies were not as well-cooked. I thought I was taking small bites and chewing well. The joke was on me! I should have stopped at the first twinge of discomfort but I thought it would pass and continued to have more. All of the sudden, I felt excruciating pain between my shoulder blades and it felt like I couldn't get a full breath. Nothing I did made me feel better and I was really getting concerned. After a few minutes, I vomited. …

On 11/16/20 I had gastric bypass. I had my thyroid removed, half 25 years ago, half 10 years ago. I also had a full hysterectomy 12 yrs ago. No hormone replacement. I feel like the world's slowest loser. Tomorrow starts month 3 and I'm only down 19 lbs. However, in May '17 I weighed 343, lots of up and down in between (back up to 291 May of 20) but was down to 261 on surgery day, only 19 lbs so far since surgery, keeping calories at 800ish. I'm either freezing or sweating. 2 weeks ago after calling the endocrinologist cause I felt awful, my tsh was .09 so I was hyper, now he has me skipping one day a week of my .125 Synthroid. I am not losing like the reports I see, I'm e…
