Gastric Bypass Reversal

Just out of curiosity, have any of you ever seriously considered having your WLS procedure reversed? If so, did you discuss options with your surgeon? If so, what was his/her response?

Nope. Not even once. This has been life changing for me. What would be a reason to have it reversed?

  • The only ones that I have seen reversed over the years on these forums are in cases where there are significant complications where there was no other real choice; it's a complicated enough procedure

  • How on earth do you reverse a VSG? I guess I thought once they remove most of your stomach its gone? I would never consider it but I can't imagine it being reversible ?

The only ones that I have seen reversed over the years on these forums are in cases where there are significant complications where there was no other real choice; it's a complicated enough procedure that few seriously consider it just for the sake of buyers remorse (from what I can tell, many surgeons don't want to tackle it themselves, often referring the patient to someone more experienced with it.) It is not something taken lightly.

What is the reason that you are considering a reversal?

The OP is referring to bypass not an a VSG....its in the thread header and is posting in the bypass subforum.

sorry, my bad.

I stumbled across a YouTuber called Frankenbelly who had her gastric bypass reversed due to terrible complications. She also has a blog about it:

Keep in mind that her gastric bypass surgery was 14 years ago, and complication rates have decreased a lot since then. Reversal surgery is very rare and I would imagine that most surgeons wouldn't even consider it unless there were very compelling medical reasons.
