The 2019 ASMBS update recommends 5,000 - 10,000 IU / day vitamin A. My dietician does NOT recommend anything near that, and I can't find any multivitamin that has that much vitamin A. Are any of you bypassers actually taking that much?

Sweet Mother of God. I do believe I am having a full fledged dumping episode. I have cold sweats, awful stomach cramps, and I am very uncomfortable. How long does it last?? I haven't been able to use the bathroom or throw up. Do papaya enzymes work? I'm desperate. ?

I am having gastric bypass surgery on July 28 and my extended family has been adamant that I should get the sleeve instead of the bypass. Seven of them group texted me last night about it. I felt like i was being attacked. They basically think that every horror story is going to happen to me. They act like I haven’t done an enormous amount of research on the subject (which i have of course) and don’t know the risks. Has anyone else dealt with this?

Hello, everyone, first of all I'd like to say I'm from Brazil, so please, if I make some mistakes, overlook them or you may correct me. I underwent gastric bypass surgery on May 19th this year, it's been only one month. I have no energy, no motivation, my mood is terrible. I start a (semi-)solid diet which includes ground meat, rice, bread, light cheese, but I don't want to eat any of these foods, actually, it's been 10 days since I've been ingesting barely anything. I don't feel like eating, I'm tired of eating what I don't want to eat. I'm craving pizza, burger, especially, chocolate, not lots of it, but I asked my nutritionist if I could eat one Lindt truffle, whi…

I am just over 18 months post RNY surgery and am incredibly grateful that I had the opportunity for this tool, and glad I made the decision to do it. Even with everything going on in the world today, I am feelling happier and healthier than I have in a long time. I am 5'10, just turned 43 year old women (41 at time of surgery). Highest weight was 334, day of surgery 292, today I am maintaining right around 160. So many non scale victories, but a few of my favorites: - I have a ton more energy. I used to fall asleep on the couch after work most nights, and weekends I did errands and chores and rarely had the energy for much else. Now, I use my evenings to …

Hey folks! Long time lurker around here as I was preparing to my surgery but todays the day i decided to sign up because I have a question and I was hoping some body experienced something similar. Today July 2nd is exactly one week post op for me. I had a revision Sleeve to Bypass on 6/25. Ive been on full liquids for a few days now having zero problems. My 1 week post op appointment with my surgeon was yesterday and he applauded me on how well I was doing. No nausea, able to take in over 70 grams of protein and 50+ ounces of fluid. He told me to give cream of wheat a try so tonight I decided to do just that. Well I finished the entire packet of Instant cre…

Had my pre-op appt this morning along with the Dexa body scan - also did blood work. Fingers crossed everything is a go for next Wednesday the 7th! I'm the first procedure of the day so I have to check in at 5:30 am. It will all be worth it tho. I'm plugging along on my liver shrinking diet - lost 10 lbs the first week. Haven't been too hungry. All in all everything has been going pretty well. Lara

My surgery date was 5/28, so today is one month later. The good: My pain was only moderate, and was manageable with just acetaminophen after the first couple days. I haven't had too much gas pain or nausea, either. I'm never hungry. I've lost 23 pounds since the surgery (33 including the pre-surgery diet). I'm wearing one size smaller jeans, and after losing another 5 pounds or so, I'll try the next size down. I'm also wearing one size smaller polo shirts. The bad: If I eat too much or too quickly, I get quite uncomfortable. One one occasion, this resulted in vomiting. I've also had some constipation. …

I have been off track for the past 2 months. I've kept my weight between 208 and 203 lbs. I've been eating breads ans grains. I've been grazing alot and its hard to get back on track. I've been thinking just to go on a liquid diet to see if it will help. Any tips and ideas would be appreciated.

As of this morning, I have achieved my self-determined goal weight of 150 pounds. My surgery date was 7/6/2020, so I am just under 8 months. I am as fit as I have ever been, and feel great. I do have loose, saggy skin, which I hope PS will correct. My tummy does not look too bad when I stand upright, but look out if I bend over. ? My boobs are sad, pathetic socks of flesh. But my butt...holy crap I wasn’t expecting all the loose skin back there. ??? It is so uncomfortable to sit or lay on folds of extra skin. The butt issue is uncomfortable enough that I am somewhat rushing towards PS, starting with a lower body lift, breast lift/augmentation at the end of May. My th…

I don't know if anyone else is experiencing something really strange happening. But I am experiencing things smelling and tasting really strange. It seems to be shredded cheeses, my yogurt, and my decaf coffee. All these things I ate before having my bypass revision but now they all have this strange smell and taste which is kind of nauseating. When did I mention it was Greek yogurt that has this smell. I also found that I order a salad from Wendy's and the dressing smell the same way and taste the same way. Can explain what the smell or taste is but it's weird that all of these different things have this smell and taste. Has anyone experienced anything like this?

I had my surgery June 1st and now on phase 3 foods. But I can't eat anything without feeling nauseous, even water makes me nauseous. Nothing tastes good and dread eating anything because I know I'll feel like I have to vomit for the rest of the day. Help! What's going on with me?

Hey everyone, I am a 28 yo F who had gastric bypass over two years ago and lost approx. 120lbs from 299lbs to 178lbs. I was told by my therapist before surgery that I had eating disorder behaviors and thoughts and should see a specialist but I refused and thought I would be ok after losing weight. My thoughts, obsessions, and food restriction has increased after surgery where it’s all I can think about. I had a few scary situations with passing out and finally agreed to see the Eating Disorder (ED) specialist. She immediately told me I needed a higher level of care for atypical anorexia and recommended partial hospitalization. I have a very demanding job that I can’…

Thank you all for your feedback, concern, and well wishes from my previous post. I have since spoke to the surgeon again on June 16th and he has determined that we will try again. July 29th is the new due date. He recommended I lose 10-15 pounds more, giving me 6 or 7 more weeks to lose it until the new date. I will admit to myself that I am not sure if this is a good idea anymore. I am ashamed at what I allowed to happen on this journey and my behavior to the doctor and staff the day of surgery and the aftermath. I saw everyone as the enemy. I didn’t look forward to anything anymore and I hated everyone and everything. But I know who’s fault it really …

June 9th 2021 was my surgery date. My fiancé and my family were so elated. “You finally get to start you life again”, they said. I was ready to bloody do this! Surgery was supposed to start at 11am and then got pushed back severely due to an emergency the surgeon had to deal with. My surgery didn’t commence until 9:30pm that day. I...was still ready but everyone was anxious and worried the surgeon would be exhausted and what not. Well not 30 minutes after, the surgery was aborted leaving me with six incisions and a pool of tears and anguish. My liver was too big to navigate the surgeon says. I did the pre-op diet. I DID it!!! What f**king gives? Now I did all this for not…

In the beginning when I started to eat I would feel my pouch fill up, now I don't. I was wondering if it was the soft foods or I was afraid I stretched my stomach already. Weight loss stalls then goes then stalls. Then my stomach will act up and I need immodium or I can't leave home. Just frustrated but I guess it's normal. Just wanted to see what anyone else's thoughts /experiences were. Bypass was done 4/14

I had my first Dr. visit last week, and I am in the beginning phase of the process. I came across your forum and it has some great info and advise. I am having my bypass surgery to help with my Barratts esophagus and GERD and repairing my hiatal hernia. I was told that this is the best route after talking with two doctors. Losing weight and possibly getting rid of my sleep apnea is a wonderful benefit also. looking at the end of August, first week in Sept for my surgery. I have no true worries, I just have to follow directions and learn what my limits may be. Keep the good and bad info coming. I know each one of us is different, and have different struggles before, during…

I am 3 months post op and I am just now starting to workout. Dr didn’t clear me for a while due to some abdominal pain I’d been having. Im eating a protein shake in the am, deli roll ups with cheese and veggies for lunch, chicken for dinner with veggies. I consume almost NO CARBS. I do about 30-45 minutes on the elliptical and I also walk a 2.25 mile bridge by my house. (3 times a week minimum) Sometimes i do the weight machines but I’m easing into that. And Im NOT LOSING A POUND. Been at a stall for 3-4 weeks now. I’ve actually gained a pound which blows my mind because im definitely in a calorie deficit. Anyone else experience this when they started working out? Words o…

Hello, Has anyone experienced stomach pain or should I say pouch pain. I am almost 17 moths post-op and had my check up last Tuesday. Had lost 13 more pounds and all labs were great. Waist 28”, wt. 163 their scales are always 6#’s more than my scales. Stopped taking my protonix ( doctor left it up to me/as needed) my stomach has felt bad ever since. Started back taking this morning but stomach still feels bad. Has anyone experienced this and do you suggest maybe probiotics? Will I have to take the rest of my life? If not feeling any better by Friday will call physician. Thanks everyone!

Just thought I'd post about how this process has gone for me over the past "almost" year as today I crossed a big milestone (at least big to me). 198.8 - which when I think about it - I haven't been this weight since 2007 when I was doing weight watchers and had lost 40lbs. I think back over this past year it's still a little surreal. At this time last year, I was finishing up my insurance pre-reqs of meeting with a nutritionist and therapist for 6 months. I had already started to transition my diet to two protein shakes for breakfast and lunch to prep for my pre-surgical diet. I was nervous, scared and not 100% sure that I wanted to go through with bypass but a…

Hey all - Just wanted to reach out because I am having a difficult day. I've cried three times and just feeling down. I am three weeks Post OP and I am surprised it has taken this long for me to feel some of the effects. I miss food. Not in the way of feeling full or having some emotional need - I just simply miss the taste of food. The point I am at in my diet - I can only have canned/packaged tuna or scrambled eggs.. along with the softer foods from the previous weeks. I opened a pack of the tuna today and it smelled horrendous. I just started sobbing and my wife said to throw it away... we'd get the kind I did like at the store in a bit. Is it just me or ha…

Hi guys. I had my surgery on May 18. Until a week ago things were going GREAT. Last Friday I started feeling SUPER full once I started drinking again after a meal. I thought maybe i was slacking and drinking too soon after eating. But it is happening even when I wait a full 30 minutes after eating. I mean sick super full, need to throw up to relieve the discomfort, super full. It doesn't happen all the time, and it seems to be happening mostly after eating tuna salad and any kind of chicken. My 2 main questions are: 1) does anyone have to weight an hour after eating to drink again? And 2) could it be that I wasn't ready for the tuna and the chicken? Thanks in advance and …

I finally had my surgery (RYGB) on June 8th and up until today I have been energetic and optimistic. When I woke up today (Day 9) I felt lousy. I had restless leg all night. I was freezing and hot at the same time. I was queasy and nothing tasted good or even edible. My stomach itches and burns. I can't get comfortable in any position. Most of all I am stressed out because I can't seem to get enough protein and enough fluids in one day. Help Me!!!! I'm losing it! I have been crying all day despite my families support. They have no idea what i'm going through.

I had surgery 3/3 and surgery again 3/12. I had a rough start couldn’t eat or drink for 6 weeks in and out the hospital nothing tasted good. I’ve been a diabetic for 4 years so artificial sweeteners were my go to, but after surgery they caused distress. Today marks 12 weeks 3 months post surgery and two days ago I tried Chick-fila unsweet tea and diet lemonade and........ no distress from the artificial sweetener! I don’t know if it’s just the Splenda I can have or if my body was still working itself out in the beginning. I’m very happy so I thought I’d share this. I love water, but it was nice to have something different.

Morning :) I’m booked in to have a conversion from sleeve to mini bypass. I’m wondering if anyone can tell me how their surgery went and recovery times. Also if they lost much weight? I think my original sleeve stretched out - I had it 8 years ago. I started regaining weight 2 years ago and have now put on 20kg. The surgeon isn’t doing a sleeve revision - just the mini bypass. I am aiming to lose the 20kg within a year. Is this realistic? I’m worried about complications and not losing any weight. Thanks for any replies!

Hi- I am new here and hoping to find some “real world guidance”. I am almost 6 weeks post op from VSG and about a week and half ago my GERD became debilitating! Drinking flavored water, Gatorade zero hurts and often make GERD worse. I am doing small sips. Eating bland foods causes GERD TO WORSEN. Despite eating about 2 oz over 45 minutes. Sleeping elevated, has made a slight improvement. But trying to sleep is the worse. I am taking protonix twice a day. talked to my surgeon and she is concerned, but wants to wait a month before further investigating. was wondering if any of you have had a similar problem and if anything worked for you. At th…

After my one-week post-op visit, my doc told me I could go from full-liquid to puree diet. He also said I didn't have to grind up soft white fish or scrambled eggs if I chewed them well. Last night for dinner I had an ounce of commercially-prepared breaded cod, with 95% of the breading removed. I also had a quarter cup of mashed potatoes. It was great! For lunch today, I had a scrambled egg. To be precise, one egg and one egg white. As I was eating, I was thinking, "Everyone tells me to stop eating when I feel full. I don't know whether I've ever felt that. I wonder what it feels like to be full now." Then, about the last bite, I realized I felt full. Thirt…

Hey everyone! I just joined the site about a month or so after discovering it. I first considered weight loss surgery about 6 years ago. It was put on hold for varying reasons. Last year, I finally decided to move forward, then COVID hit. My first choice was the Lap Band, but after reading personal experiences on this site and others, I changed my mind. Also, my surgeon was willing to do the procedure, but he had made clear it typically was not as successful and had more long term complications (erosion, slippage, etc) than the sleeve or bypass. After scheduling an appointment to further discuss my options and the pros and cons of each type of surgery, I will now …

Hey there! So after meeting with the nutritionist for the first time, she gave me tips and recommendations for cleaning up my diet pre surgery. Just to clarify I am not pre op- just pre surgery in the 6 months insurance approval process. My question is....did anyone strictly change their diet right away after the nutritionists suggestions or did it take you a while to clean up your diet before pre op?
