  1. Hi y’all! I’m Shelly. I’m in Arkansas and I’m in the process of going through my 6 month of diet and exercise counseling that my insurance is requiring. I still have 4 months to go. I have a question though. I’m signed up to get the RnY but I have had pretty bad bile acid diarrhea for Years. So much so that I had developed rectal fissures that required surgery! I was talking to my gastroenterologist surgeon today at my last appointment and told him I was going to get the gastric bypass and would it Help with my bile acid problem. He is very Leary about me having the surgery since it is taking a part of my intestine that helps with the acid. He’s afraid it’ll make my probl…

I'm still in the approval process for bypass (medical checks and whatnot), but I was wondering if anyone out there has experience with changing their antidepressants and/or ADHD meds post bypass surgery. I'm on a combo of meds that are working pretty well and I've been told they can't predict absorption results after surgery which is stressing me out. It's the one thing that has me worried about getting the bypass (sleeve is not an option with my insurance) and I'd like to hear people's experiences. Thanks!

Hello, how long did it take for you to get test results and a surgery date after you completed all your pre op tests? I have been approved by insurance for everything I just did all my testing and cbc and I was just curious how long after it took you to get a date. Tia

  5. Started by GeminiA,

How long after your pre op testing did it take to get a surgery date.. I have been waiting forever and I finally get more pre op testing on 6/8 but still no clue when I will get a surgery date and when I ask they always say 4-6 weeks and then 4-6 weeks or longer goes by and still no information. The last lady I talked to said pre op testing then surgeon looks at results and you get a date.. was it shortly after or did you wait forever to get a date or an estimated date? Thanks in advance!

I had gastric bypass in December of 2020... even since then, I’ve noticed I don’t pee as much as I should ... I drink at least 80 ounces or more of water per day, and I work out, so some does come out sweeting.. anyone else?

  7. I’m on the 4th day of my 14 day pre-op diet and been trying to google/research everything I can about the gastric bypass. I came upon an article that essentially said that older and menopausal women are slow to lose and not as great results. I figured this was the place to find out the deal from my peers. I just turned 50, so this article definitely got my mind thinking. What are your experiences or thoughts? I would love to hear.c

I need help if anyone has gone through this. My doctor told me that they will be testing me for THC, nicotine and whatever else before I can have my surgery and I have to test 3months clean on both. My surgery is in Sep, but I’m supposed to do my first test this month. I’m stressed because I don’t know exactly what day they are going test. I have just recently quit the weed and now working on the cigarettes.

Let me start by saying how much I appreciate everyone here and the community! So many questions answered and worries calmed. I am 2 weeks post-op tomorrow (roux bypass). My pain has consistently been on upper right side, but has stayed well controlled since surgery with very few meds needed, though I do have high pain tolerance. Concern is, I have bruising in that area, which is not "around" any incisions. I recall getting a shot of something in my stomach the night after surgery while in the hospital. The area with bruising shows mark like maybe that was where shot was given, but hazy to me with meds and coming off anesthesia. Pain seems to not be much better a…

I have only lost 22 lbs, since surgery on 4/13/21 the past 10 days have been no weight loss. Can eat more things now, but wondering if I need to go back to 90 grams of protein per day- right now I’m at 30-60 and eat a small meal at night. Haven’t had sugar in a long time. Haven’t been drinking much water either. Any thoughts out there?

Hi, I'm trying to decide between sleeve and bypass, and I know the vitamin requirements are more stringent with bypass. Are the vitamins you need to take after bypass all available in chewable/liquid/small tablets, or do you have to take capsules or large tablets? I can't swallow capsules and struggle with larger tablets. Also, how common are vitamin deficiencies after bypass? If I've had B & D vitamin deficiencies before (I had a B12 deficiency when I was vegetarian that did not improve with supplements...had to start eating fish and eggs to correct it, and have to take at least 10,000 IU of Vitamin D daily to have normal levels), am I more likely to develop vi…

  19. I’m curious how long everyone’s process took? Mine seems to be long from the time I finished all my requirements to get the paper lady at the office to send my file to the insurance (over 2 weeks), my file was approved in 3 days and now she said it will be 3 weeks before I even get a call to schedule my surgery and who knows how far they are booked out before I can even get surgery...

I am scheduled for RNY on May 15. I’ve been calling the doctor and they haven’t had any answers for me about whether or not the surgery would be postponed. But I got the call from the hospital pre-op saying I am on for the 15th! I’m so nervous! Anyone else having RNY in May? (I’m 41, starting weight is 255.)

  21. I had surgery April 27 and I’ve been doing well no complications so far. Anyways I’m feeling hungry a lot more now but of course I still can’t eat very big portions(2-3oz at a time) I’m getting my proteins in and my water. I absolutely HATE the soft food diet and can’t wait to have real food. Anyways is eating 2-3 oz about 5-6x a day ok? I see my team on Wednesday but I’m just curious what everyone else is doing/did.

I’m 9 years out from my sleeve, and did pretty well for the first few years. But, I am now exactly where I started and dealing with absolute misery with a hernia and other stomach issues. My doctor wants to do a revision to a bypass. If you’ve been through the same thing, did things go better with the bypass? If you had stomach problems, did that get better? Thanks.

Tomorrow is my official week since having gastric bypass and I’m struggling. I’m only down to my ore surgery weight and I don’t understand why. I also have right side pain that makes it hard to do things. I was doing great on just liquids and getting about 40-50 ounces a day and my surgical nurse called and was not happy I was getting that much and told me I might stretch my pouch out. She also told me I needed to add in the yogurts and creamed soups so I get 24-30 ounces of full and then 24-30 ounces of clear. I started adding in more full items and I can barely get any ounces of either now because I feel so full/sick. Is this common? Am I doing something wrong?

I'm nauseous most of the time, especially when I drink any liquid or eat. At times, when I'm drinking water it feels like someone is sticking needles in my stomach. I've not been able to tolerate any dairy yet. My doctor and his team are fantastic, but nothing has helped, herbs, ginger etc. except for Zofran and I really can't take medication forever. No food tastes good or appeals to me. I've also had to have my esophagus dilated 2 times because it becomes so tight that swallowing i…

Hello everyone, My name is Bariatric852. I am a 28 year old female who has just undergone laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery earlier this month. I am coming up to three weeks post op on a full liquid diet. I am craving solid food so much - I miss chewing my food. I am actually looking forward to puréed food stage starting on the 27th of May. The various weight loss surgeries were initially brought up by a specialist in a sleep clinic dealing with my sleep apnea. This was nearly three years ago. During these years leading up to my surgery, I have seen a multitude of doctors and specialists. Psychiatrist, clinical psychologist, surgeons, dietitian, physiothera…

Hey everyone! I just got my insurance approved yesterday and am scheduled for surgery on July 9th. My nutritionist is very thorough and gave me a lot of food tips, but am interested in following others who are further along in the journey. Do you know of any Tik Tokers, IG’rs, or YouTubers who have interesting recipes or tips for food prep? TIA!

My surgery was 3/3/21 I was 268 and I told myself aim big so my first weight loss goal was 205. I had a stall in April of three weeks the scale wouldn’t budge to pass 215! Then it began to move only took a week and a half to get to 206.8 and now guess what?! It won’t budge! It refuses to give me my first goal, lol

  35. Hi Everyone, I’m officially 6 weeks post gastric bypass and I’m feeling great! Starting weight pre-liquid diet was 305lbs. After 3 week liquid diet on day of surgery I weighed in at 277lbs. Today, I’m sitting at 243lbs! I was on the post op liquid diet for 2 weeks then semi-solid for 1 week. 4th week out I started on full solids and have kept everything down. I’ve had pizza, subs, burgers, hotdogs, steak, pork, ribs, wings etc and have never felt nauseous or thrown anything back up. Of course I can only have bites/ounces at a time but it’s great to be back on regular food! With the doctors blessing I golfed 4.5 weeks out and got in 13 holes before it hurt to much to fini…

I've heard lots about sleeves and that they can give you bad heartburn. What about bypass. My surgeon says after healing there shouldn't be much problem, but I'm hearing from some people that they are still taking omeprazole years later... What about you?

  37. Started by kbrookings,

Before surgery I could eat extremely healthy and strict and lose very quickly (like 5 lbs a week); so why after this surgery am I not losing more than maybe 2 lbs a week? It is so frustrating knowing I could be losing more WITHOUT the surgery. Am I not taking in enough calories? My dietitian says to keep my calories closer to the 300 mark which isn't helping, plus I HAVE been. Weight loss was decent, but now like 1 lb a week. PLEASE TELL ME WHAT WORKS FOR THOSE WHO ARE 6-7 WEEKS POST SURGERY!!! THANK YOU!!!

  38. I know some people experience changes in what they like right after surgery, but has anyone experienced a change more than a year out? Over the last couple months I've noticed that I don't seem to be tasting salt like I used to and it's making a lot of foods much less enjoyable. Wondering if it's just a weird thing or potentially related to surgery?

I’m 10 weeks out and believe it or not I could eat more before until just recently. Now I’m stuffed after a few bites. Did my pouch decrease in size?

  40. I meant to post back in March but been busy with life. I hope all of you are doing well and staying safe. For those who got sick with the virus or lost loved ones, I offer my deepest thoughts and sympathies. I was part of the group who got the by-pass done just before everything went on lockdown last year. It's been quite the journey. I've been fortunate to have been able to work from home all of this time, although I do expect to return to the office sometime later this year. To date, I have lost 92 lbs. since the start of my bariatric journey and 104 lbs. from my highest weight. I had the surgery at 62 years of age and I was pre-diabetic, with high blood press…

  41. I’m just really having a rough time lost surgery with keeping my emotions stable and some anxiety about no being able to lose weight despite the surgery, afraid I’m messing up how it ways to eat! I just don’t know if I can do this I’m losing my grip over here. My friend said when you start to lose you lose a bunch of fat releasing estrogen and it makes you feel crazy. True?

Does anyone here regret having had gastric bypass surgery? I’m still in the preop stage. I keep hearing about the downsides: adhesions, forever being careful of what to eat, dumping, stricture, malabsorption, etc. I’m getting scared to move forward. Part of me feels like I can lose weight with my doctors help (I’ve already lost 40 pounds, 80 to go). The other part of me says okay, you have surgery and lose the weight then what?? You’re stuck with the side effects? I’m getting scared and about to talk myself out of it. I’d like to hear your story and of you had similar thoughts are you still happy with the surgery?

Hello there, my sister had gastric bypass surgery about 3 years ago. She lost beautiful weight in the first year. She started gaining weight the next year. She continued to gain weight even though she went to dietitian control and tried various diets. She was already eating less, they tried even smaller portions with the dietician, she gained weight again. She can hardly eat anything now but still continues to gain weight. how is this problem solved? Has anyone had such a problem before, if it happened, and if ze was able to solve it, how could ze solve it?

  44. Started by Katja,

Hi Everyone, I know one feels nauseous and may throw up with dumping if you eat too fast, or have too much sugar. What about fatty foods? (I’m talking months post op) I think I’ve read some people get diarrhea with dumping too. Are the normal daily movements loose always or just with dumping. Sorry the topic isn’t very nice but it is important to know what to expect. Thanks

Hello All Had Surgery 04/02 I am now on pretty much soft food diets.. my question is why does it hurt to swallow when I eat chicken or anything solid I am cutting the pieces small… I don’t like that sensation and I’m scared to eat…

  46. I'm on day 5 of 15 of my clear liquid diet. I hate all the fake tastes of the protein shakes and drinks. I feel like I'm starving to death! I know I'm being dramatic but it's so dang difficult! I'm cried several times. Tell me if my cheats are horrible? Day 3 I had 1 goldfish cracker Day 4 I had 2 goldfish crackers and a cup of 2% milk Day 5 I had 1 goldfish cracker and 1 mozzarella pearl I feel like these little cheats are the only things keeping me from falling off the wagon! Am I really messing up with these?

  47. Started by Michele 2021,

I had the bypass surgery yesterday and experienced no issues other than the abdominal pain you experience which honestly feel more Ike hunger pains. My question is how much were others able to drink one day out of surgery? I’ll be lucky to get in 2 bottles of waters today! And am worried about hydration here!

  48. Started by meggs353,

Hello, I have a lap band and am seriously considering revision to gastric bypass. With the lap band, I have by far the most restriction with my first meal of the day. If I’m going to get stuck, overly full, or throw up, it’s almost always with breakfast which can set off a chain reaction throughout the day. I know the surgeries are very different, so I’m curious if people with bypass notice differences in their ability to tolerate food throughout the day. Thanks!

  49. Anyone else in the same boat from Ontario? Initially I was scheduled for May 3rd, then June 1st and today got a call that June 1st is cancelled also! ? It's dreading to mentally keep prepping for it for it to get postponed yet again. Siggghhh. Plan is to continue on the same healthy habits now that I am over food funerals ? So hope I can keep on losing some weight before I get yet another surgery date!

I'm 6 weeks post op and no matter what I eat, I feel ill. I hate food now. I never want to eat anymore, I'm barely able to eat anything. When I eat, it hurts. When I drink (sip!), it hurts. I get dry heaves almost daily. I'm having a hard time meeting my macros, my meds make me feel sick too. Haven't met with my (b***h) doctor yet- she has the worst bedside manner I have EVER encountered! I do not feel confident or comfortable talking to her at all about my issues. I've even tried switching to another program but that "just isn't done." I hope this passes, I feel so hopeless rn.
