I had RNY in Nov. 2020. Not long after my shoulders started getting little bumps all over. Thought it was dry skin. It seemed to go away after a few weeks, but it’s back again only the bumps seem more like pimples , bigger now than the first time. And it’s all over my upper back. Anyone have trouble with that? I’m also losing ALOT of hair!!! I’m taking 10,000 units of Biotin, and understand that by the end of the year it should be growing back. But the pimply skin bugs me, is there anything I can do for it?

I wasn’t able to find a March thread, so I guess I’ll start one. (If I missed it, someone let me know where to find it!) I got scheduled for 25 March a few weeks ago. Found out today that insurance approved! Getting my COVID test on the 19th. Any other March-ers??? Would be fun to have a place to share our experiences. :)

I am having such a hard time getting to stage 4, regular foods no starches. My gastric bypass surgery was Jan 28th of this year. I’ve been mostly on purée foods, some exceptions in certain foods but the most concerning thing is my new stomach hates meat! I am definitely not meeting my protein goals. Protein shakes are hard too. They did a X-ray with the barium and said everything looked fine other than really bad acid reflux. I’m taking little sips, bites and not drinking before or after meals in the time limits. So far I regret the surgery even though I’ve lost 50lbs. Seems I’m always vomiting, in pain or so fatigue to where I feel like I’m gonna have a seizure. It gets…

I’ve been second guessing getting the bypass vs the sleeve .I originally wanted to get the sleeve procedure since it seems less complicated. I have about 70 lbs to lose to reach my goal weight. On my preop appt they noticed I had some gerd. I was unaware of this. The surgeon advised I have a bypass vs a sleeve since gerd is a common issue that develops with sleeve patients and assured me that the bypass will resolve these symptoms. I’m noticing a lot of people in these message boards who have gerd and still opted for the Sleeve. It was such a long process to get approved for the WLS I never thought abut getting a second opinion as I’d probably be waiting another 6 month…

Hello everyone! My pace is moving really fast. I had my consult on April 21st, had my EKG, lab work, gallbladder ultrasound, and psych evaluation all done by April 28th, got my letter of medical necessity on Monday the 3rd, and today will have my final appt, the nutrition evaluation. That's a span of exactly two weeks to the day! There's always a chance that the nutritionist requires another course with me, but my insurance doesn't (I have Cigna.) So, realistically, by the end of today, I could have my insurance claim submitted and will know the result within two weeks. Everything's been moving quite fast, and though I've researched WLS for a decade now, I have only been …

Hi guys! Well it's been quite a journey through this but I've got my date.... April 28th [emoji3060][emoji119][emoji3060][emoji119] I'm so excited and really nervous at the same time. I'm a little nervous about the pain. I'm a pretty tough gal but for some reason I'm nervous. Of course beauty is pain for us ladies lol. Any advice on what the hospital stay is like and coming home?? I've made so many lists of what to take to the hospital and prepare for coming home. My Amazon cart is ridiculously full , but I'm extremely hopeful and positive. And so grateful for this it's like I'm getting a second chance or a do over. I really feel this is going to be the best thing I could…

Hi everyone. I had gastric bypass 2 years ago and have gone from 299lbs to 178lbs. I am able to see that I am smaller than before but I have become more and more obsessed with my weight and the fact that my BMI of 30 is still obese and can’t help to feel like I failed this surgery. Prior to my weight loss, I dreamed of being under 200lbs but now that I am here I can’t help but be so disappointed of how big I still am. Anyone else suffering from this?

Hello. I haven’t posted in awhile since I expressed some issues I was having with my personal life. I’m starting to move from what felt like a 4-5 month plateau. I think a few things happened to make me hit a plateau. The biggest one was Christmas and eating desserts. I discovered that while I had poor tolerance for food my stomach pouch was able to tolerate chocolate and ice cream treats. I have not gained weight but I did not lose either. I’m starting to lose again because I gradually have been increasing my exercise, increasing water intake and working on my sugar addiction every day. I’m listening to podcasts on sugar addiction as well as reading books on the subject.…

Hi guys, I've never thought I'd be able to hear this in a million years, but my nutritionist wants me to gain a bit of weight by adding 200 more calories a day, I'm not anorexic, but it scares the sh*t out of me to make myself eat more food than I already am. I'm a long-time platelet donor with the Red Cross and if I drop below 110 I can't donate any more, so I have the motivation, but I know from years of dieting that one the weight comes back on it really comes back on. Have any of y'all had this issue and how did you deal with it emotionally? Thanks, y'all are the BEST!

Has anyone had any issues with their dental care since their Weight loss surgeries? I’ve heard that you can get a prescription toothpaste at the dentist that has extra fluoride...that is helpful. I don’t recall anything being discussed about the risks of WLS on your teeth??

Ok so my drs keep ordering tests and the tests keep coming back showing no issue. But here is what’s going on: every time I eat solid food (except for scrambled egg whites, cheese, or potatoes) I end up with almost immediate diarrhea and cramping (meat being the worst culprit but other foods causing it too). I also keep getting pains that feel like someone is roughly folding my stomach (folding not twisting). I’m chewing my food thoroughly, not eating stuff high in fat or carbs (only started eating potatoes because of this issue). I have tried everything from ground turkey, to chicken thighs, to plain boiled chicken, even boca burgers. But this has been …

My sleeve revision to bypass was done in Mexico 4 weeks ago. Performed by the same surgeon who did my sleeve. He was great with the sleeve so I went back. I had lots of post-op pain the days following the procedure. Surgeons went back in to do an endoscopy to check for a leak, but found no leak. They said I was actually constipated (sorry TMI) and likely causing the pain. Once returned hone I developed a post-op infection, went to see a general surgeon who gave me antibiotics for a superficial infection and said that was all I needed. Thankfully it wasn’t a deep infection. I have had so much difficulty getting anything in. I carry Gatorade zero around w…

I was just wondering how long until you where able to actually drink water properly? I feel like I am still just sipping at my water all day and having a hard time getting what I need in. Would love to be able to chug a full glass of water again so I can be sure I am having enough in a day. At the same time, nervous to push it and end up sick again.

Hi there! I'm 7.5 months post op from RNY. Since having surgery on Sept. 28, I've lost 85lbs ... averaging about 10lbs per month (with the exception of the first month or two when I lost 15-20). ANYWAY, I haven't lost a single pound in over a month! While I haven't gained any, it's still REALLY frustrating to also not be losing this early in the process. I eat anywhere from 850-1200 calories a day. Average 70-100oz of water. Keep my protein between 70-95. Walk 2-4 miles. Peloton 2-3 days a week for 30 mins. I also track every. single. bite. using MFP. I've had a couple stalls here and there, usually lasting 1-2 weeks ... but never a months long! Has anyone experienced thi…

Hello All! I have just three days left on the Full liquids diet, but know that some of the things I'm eating now will continue into my puree/blended diet. Can anyone offer an alternatives of liquids other than protein shakes, protein water, and yogurt/pudding? I find myself craving savory/salty things instead. Like just a lick of some alfredo sauce or something that I can actually consume that is savory. Thanks in advance for the advice! Anastasia

Hi! I had my first visit with the nutritionist yesterday and I will need to lose 20 lbs pre surgery. I'm really nervous and worried that I won't be able to do this. Does the 2 weeks of liquids before surgery help with a lot of that weight? I'm going to try as hard as I can but if it were easy I wouldn't need the surgery! Just makes me scared it might not work out. Did anyone else feel this way?

I’m starting my 10-day pre-op diet tomorrow and was given a worksheet to eat only specific foods during this time frame... it seems very limiting they don’t list sugar free jello or popsicles but allow certain canned fruits. They also allow for chicken but no fish. Were others pre-op diets similar? I know this diet was created to shrink the liver and stomach prior to surgery but was just curious to hear others experiences...and to see if anyone has any advice. I feel that the next 10’ days will be very challenging!

As of today, I am down 120 lbs. from my highest weight. My HW was 374 when I had my first appointment with a new endocrinologist in July 2019. My A1C was creeping up again and I was put on Victoza. I made a conscious effort beginning at that point, to maximize the weight loss side effect of the medication. I lost about 60 lbs. by the end of the year. In January 2020, my insurance began to cover WLS. I had my first appointment that month. The process of classes, doctor visits and supervised weight loss was going to take a minimum of 6 months. The insurance and program mandated everything was done through program providers. There was no option to see my local doctor or diet…

Hi everyone, this is my first post! So I had my gastric sleeve on March 19th, and starting earlier this week my hair has been coming out in clumps! Everything I've read says the hair shedding happens usually after 3 months? Any ideas why mine has started so soon? I try to get at least 40-60 grams of protein a day and am taking vitamins. Not looking forward to being bald, by the end of 6 months!

It has been many years since I checked into Bariatricpal. My surgery on 9/1/2011 was at the INDIANA University Medical Center Bariatric Dept. The decision was made for weight loss and diabetic control. Over the years of owning two businesses, raising two sons, getting my husband through dental school then music school, while practicing my own career as an artist, my struggle with healthy eating and controlling diabetes was eventually too much. At the weight of 299 lbs and age of 71 yr and the consistently worsening sugar control, to the point that I was giving myself daily insulin shots, was a wake up call. It isn't an easy decision to jump into a serious surgery, like…

So i have to do a liver shrinking diet 2 weeks prior to surgery. Which is substituting 2 meals w/ protein drink from an approved list. 2 snacks low calorie or fat free yogurt, cottage cheese or 1/2 of fruit and 1 meal consisting of 4 oz lean protein and vegetables. Except corn, sweet potatoes, lima beans and potatoes. 64 oz of water. I should have no problems because i basically been eating this was since February.

I had my surgery this morning and I've been in load of pain ever since. Not gas pain, that seems manageable, but from the incisions. I can barely even walk, and the last time I tried I ended up throwing up, so now I'm not allowed to have anything by mouth. And they told her not to walk much today, just let everything rest and heal and walk tomorrow. They gave me morphine and it only took away about half of my pain. This seems to be the opposite experience of what I read about most times. Most people say their incisions barely hurt at all. I'm not really asking for advice or anything, that's what the doctors are for. Just kind of complaining and wondering if I'm the only …

I've tried to stick to my diet plan and have considered myself fortunate to have had just 1 or 2 minor dumping episodes since surgery - the worst being when I was sick after eating some restaurant food which must have been (but shouldn't have been) very oily. Then last Saturday I gave in to temptation and ate a small chocolate bar..... (it was very small - about 85 calories worth). And I paid for it with upset bowels that evening and during the night. So I thought - right, never again, and that'd be the end of it. Except it hasn't been. Every day since I've had the same problem - usually in the evening, but always waking up at about 4am. I haven't eaten any suga…

Hi there, After having followed the site for some time, I am posting here for the first time to get some advise! Height - 4'11 HW - 222 Current Weight - 215 My surgeon has given me both options - Sleeve OR Bypass! I don't have any GERD issue or anything that may tilt the balance on one or the other. So can I please get some advise so I can make up my mind on what to choose?! I have PCOS and I want to lose about 100 pounds for my PCOS related side effects to come to a good halt. So maximum weight loss or as much as I can is definitely a key for me. Hence I was thinking *Bypass*, but then I have also followed some posters here and they have los…

I had my RNY on 3/3, and there's a bizarre question that has been taking up way too much of my brain. Unlike the sleeve, the rest of our stomach is still in there. How does it stay in place? Like... is it just floating? Can it shift? Could it migrate somewhere else and end up all twisted? Sorry... it's just been in the back of my mind!

I know this may be a sensitive topic but I wanted some feedback if anyone has any. Does anyone smoke weed or consume edibles after Bypass? I know that both have helped me with my anxiety, insomnia and stress especially over the past two years with the loss of my Dad. It’s not a daily habit but I wanted to know if that part of my life is now over? I stopped all that activity about 6 weeks prior to surgery to be safe. All feedback is welcome and appreciated.

I am so happy that my doctors office FINALLY told me that I can count my protein shakes as liquid. I am just past 6 months, and all along they kept telling me to count it as a snack, or a replacement meal. I have been having such a hard time getting in all the liquid, plus the shakes, plus the food. This alleviates some of the pressure.
