Hi. I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Denise and I am at the beginning of my journey. I have my last appointment scheduled for February so it is likely that I will have my surgery in February, March, or maybe even April. I have been on this journey before and completed everything but the surgery. My surgery was scheduled for Monday and I called on Friday and cancelled (this was in 2014). Truth be told, my mother had just passed and I don't think I had my heart set on the surgery or the journey. I think that I only wanted something else to focus on. This time, I am set on the surgery, internalizing all of the information, and just looking forward to a healthier…

Hi good people, My surgery is scheduled for next week and I have an issue that no one seems to have an answer for. I take a lot of daily medications due to a kidney transplant. Most of my medications have been changed to liquid solutions except for a couple. The few that are left are of a chalky consistency and can be broken up and/or crushed. But there is one-- Wellbutrin Extended Release, 300mg that can't be broken up and will only be prescribed in a liquid form if you have a permanent tube in your throat, according to my insurance. I don't know what to do...anyone ever have this type of problem??

I really need your help. I got a lapband in 2010. It was the greatest thing that ever happened to me, I lost 100 pounds and life was good. Then the acid reflux started. It was hell on earth. I woke up chocking in the middle of the night and spent several months sleeping in a chair. They finally had to take all of the fluid out of my band and the reflux is better but not totally gone. I don't have to sleep in a chair now at least, but without the fluid in my band and my gym closing (I was going 5-6 days a week) I've put on 40 pounds and I'm miserable. I had been on track to convert to a sleeve, but now I'm on here reading about people with the sleeve still having reflux p…

Hey ya'll, I had gastric bypass yesterday morning, and after I recovered from the anesthesia I could swallow and drink a normal amount of fluids just like I always have, what is going on?! I am worried that maybe they did the sleeve instead of the bypass because the nurses and even the surgeon kept saying 'sleeve' and then I would say, 'no, I should be getting the bypass' and then they'd correct themselves and say they meant bypass. Anyway, I'm just really concerned why I am recovering so fast and able to drink gulps and fit as much fluid as I want, which has been a lot since my mouth has been super dry since I woke up from surgery. I also went vegan recently, w…

Hey everyone! I had my gastric bypass on 8/4/2020 and I am having a lot of pain on my right side it feels like I pulled a muscle, but I only hurt when standing up, sitting down, or bending. Does anyone know how long this will last? It started three days post op and makes it difficult to take care of personal care. It feels like a burning pain with movement, but I’m able to walk with no pain.

I have been researching and their is a chance that after 2 years with the sleeve I can gain some weight back and since im going thru this process and have been working so hard I might as well go all in (thats my train of though) I would love to hear what are your thoughts maybe you got one and now looking back you would have gotten the other one. Thank you in advance

I am 8 years post-op. I have lost over 200 lbs. I have had no issues with my surgery until approximately 6 weeks ago. Now on a daily basis I am throwing up about 80% of what I eat. PCP can not find anything wrong. Ive done blood work, cat scans etc. There is no pain just horrible nausea & throwing up. Can anyone give me an idea as to what the issue may be? Thank you for reading.

So, I got my surgery done last month, in July, and have only lost about 16lbs so far. Yesterday morning I woke up and felt like it was hard to take a deep breath. Today didn't feel much different. I'm totally trying to avoid going to ER, but I guess I'll get looked at tomorrow. Anyone else have this type of problem? I love looking at your before and after photos..? Reading your weight loss journeys gives me inspiration. I hope 8 months down the line I can share my photos of the "new" me.

I am 3 weeks post RYN conversion from sleeve for bile reflux and a large hiatal hernia repair. I am down 10 pounds, and I happy about that but honestly I have lost that (or more) on Weight Watchers eating 1,800 calories. I am averaging 600-650 calories. Getting 64 grams of protein. Basically sugar free, getting my water and walks.... am I over reacting, or does 10 pounds seem kind slow....?

I'm 14 months post op. I reached my goal in March. It's been a journey of ups and downs, but not one that I regret. Well, actually, my only regret is not doing it sooner!! I have the support of my family and partner. My biggest struggle now is body image. After 47 years of being considered obese, it's not easy to think and see yourself differently. There are days that I can actually see myself as the new woman I am. Most days, I do not. When I see my reflection, I see the new me. However, as the scale shifts upward, even just a few pounds, 8 feel like I haven't lost an ounce and am the obese person I always was. I know deep down that isn't true. The funny thing a…

Good Evening Everyone! I have been on the road to this place my entire life. I am so happy that I finished all the prerequisites and am now awaiting insurance approval before my date is set. I came close to getting the surgery two times before but fear took over and I didn't follow through. THIS TIME IS DIFFERENT. I am nervous but also excited. I feel like Covid has kind of put my life into a focus that was never there before. Its weird though because I am the happiest I have ever been in my life and can't wait to see how much happier I can get with the weight loss that will come after the surgery. What are some of the biggest changes you have noticed in your life? …

Hi y’all, I’m 1-week post op and feeling pretty decent! I do know that I’m super early to be analyzing the scale, but I was curious if anyone who has had the surgery remembers what their weight loss was like the first week, 2 weeks, or month? I’m still feeling all bloaty and not like I’ve dropped any weight. Not panicking or anything, just curious about what’s normal. Thanks!

Hi everyone ! I am a newbie here and English is not my first language so please, bear with me ? I am a 24-year-old college student and I'm getting a ByPass on Sept 11th but my classes start on the 14th. I am fully aware I won't be able to go back to college literally 3 days after surgery, obviously ... but I was hoping that I could go back on the 21st. What are your thoughts/opinion ?

I’ve leveled out after losing nearly half my weight. Doing stuff I love to do now. 2nd pic is me after surgery on pain meds. 1st is this weekend. Deathly afraid of going back up as I never want to be back at my old weight. (Xxxl to med, size 48 to 34). Its an amazing tool and I JUST NOW got to where I knew it was the right decision.

I had gastric bypass surgery on January 3, 2005 and I have done very well. No issues with my pouch-dumping or vomiting because of following doctor’s orders-no carbonated beverages, no sweets, no fried foods, no eating and drinking at the same time and exercise 5 days a week. After trying skin wraps in my arms and seeing no changes my husband suggested arm surgery. I had my first plastic surgery in December 2015-arm lifts (7 inches of skin removed from both arms). I was so happy and still very happy with my results. February 2017-liposuction in both legs(knees and calves). December 2019-extended tummy tuck (6 pounds of skin removed). March 2020-lipo 360(11 pounds of fat…

I am new here kinda just stumbled on this site. I am on my Pre-op diet it has not been bad only one day with a headache. It feels good to read positive and uplifting words of encouragement. My surgery date is July 16, i am excited but nervous because nobody can be there with me because of this pandemic. I have been very quit about this nobody knows but my 3 kids. I was wondering was any of you secretive about having surgery? i chose to keep it secret because sometimes i feel people speak before they think, like saying this is the easy way out, when that is the furthest from the truth.

Well, since surgery is on Wednesday, I figured it was a good time to review my post-op diet binder since I'll be doing my grocery shopping this weekend. This is the first time since I really looked thru it since meeting with the dietician (I only met with her once and that was just last week - my surgery was scheduled an hour after I met with her). What stood out to me is that much of the instruction is in CAPS, BOLD, UNDERLINED, and seems to be yelling at me/the patient. I totally understand that a point is trying to be made, but I would have appreciated someone maybe explaining to me why these things were so important, rather than just "yelling" at me about them on pape…

Surgeon called. Here we go again... Sleeve to RNY 5/27 Complication on 6/8. Vomitting of bile. Nausea. Came home and 2 days later same thing. Went for CT again yesterday. Small bowel obstruction. Wants to go back in but it’s my call. Says it could go away or he will go in laparoscopic and fix it or if worst case incision thru my belly button. Seems the collegue only removed the scar tissue And here I am. My call he says. Grrr. Food liquid staying down. It’s bile coming back up. What to do!?

I discovered this evening an unexpected weight loss tool-of sorts. In the evening I'm used to snacking, and still get the mental desire to munch at night. I decided to rent a movie to distract myself, and selected "Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning". Bingo! Worked like a charm. No longer snackish or heck, even hungry. Thought I'd share. ?

I am a week out from my roux en y and altogether I’ve made a lot of improvement in those 7 days- my incisions look good, mobility better, everyday I get more water and protein in. BUT I still have a pretty sharp pain in my left shoulder and sort of towards the left side of my stomach- this happens especially when I drink any protein. It feels like it’s moving like gas and my pulse is normal along with my temperature, but the pain in my shoulder is scaring the crap out of me. It also hurts inside me every time I take in any protein. Is this normal?

So 9 months post-op and I'm considered underweight. Never in my wildest dreams did I think this would happen and in fact, used to worry I wouldn't lose enough! My aftercare has been lacking and I emailed the hospital director last week to let her know my BMI is too low and none of the team replied to my Nov/Dec emails. She sent a snotty email back saying that coz of COVID no one had replied. Of course, I'll be setting her straight tomorrow. She did, however, get the surgeon to ring me but I missed his call I just can't get enough food in, which I told the dietician in Dec and she never rang back as arranged, so I've been bumbling along on my own. Still fee…

I’ve just started eating soft solids. Got down a whole 90 calorie string cheese, no problem. So far, I have not felt any nausea, but no fullness either. What’s that about? Everyone seems to have the experience of being stuffed after two bites, but I still haven’t felt that at all. I keep down protein shakes and all my other liquids no problem. Part of me is like “well thats because I follow all the rules! I take small bites, chew very thoroughly, and eat slowly.” The other part is like “yeah, but you should still feel full. It’s because they didn’t actually do the gastric bypass, they just opened you up and forgot to do it.” Any thoughts? And yes, I know they did…

I had gastric bypass on 5/14 and as of this morning I have lost 54 pounds! A total of 64 pounds if you include the weight lost before my surgery...my issue is that people are starting to notice and ask questions...I have no regrets for having my surgery nor am I ashamed of the surgery...but when people ask how I lost the weight I freeze and tell them that I’ve been eating healthier and exercising regularly (which is true). But then after the conversation is over I feel guilty for not being 100% honest about how the weight is really coming off. I know this is my business and I don’t owe anyone an explanation, but I’ve always prided myself on my honesty. So this is new te…

I had bypass surgery on July 20th. It was nearly impossible to eat or drink when I transitioned to the purées stage. I have an appointment scheduled on August 24th for an X-ray with contrast die to see if there are any issues. I’m supposed to be transitioning to soft food in two weeks, which I’m excited about. I’ve been eating yogurt, low fat cottage cheese, protein shakes, low fat cream of mushroom soup, and retried beans. I was able to swallow scrambled eggs this morning. This is a lot harder than I thought it would be. How are you or have you been making it through the early stages after surgery? Any food ideas?

I currently take 300mg of Fluvoxamine (Luvox) at night. For those who are unfamiliar, it's an SSRI usually used for individuals with OCD. Any who, since my roux en y, I have been having just a heck of a time taking these. Initially, the general bariatric doctor cut me down to 200mg, which was way too fast of a "wean" and I had severe withdrawal symptoms, so back to 300mg for now.* Despite cutting them up, taking them hours apart, etc., I am always sick when I take these now. I have pain, immediate gas, sweats, and then it settles down after 30 minutes or so. I'm currently looking into getting them compounded because I vomit when they are smashed to a r…

Hello- I'm new to posting, but have been lurking around for a couple of months. I made the decision this year to start my weight loss surgery journey. I'm still in pre-op testing and appointments, so no surgery dates, but I've decided to go with RNY vs the Sleeve since I have reflux on a weekly basis, and also for the success rate that RNY had. This year thanks to the pre-op process I've been diagnosed with Sleep Apnea, pre diabetes, and Non-Alcoholic Fatty liver, which has really opened my eyes to the damage I'm doing to my body. My levels are not high by any means and I have heard multiple times from my nutritionist that my blood tests shows I'm actually quite heal…

All, I am reeling! I am about 3 weeks post-gastric bypass and am shocked at how extremely depressed I am. I am physically uncomfortable, constantly nauseated, and struggling to find energy to do anything. This surgery has thrown my entire world into disarray. I feel like I need to clarify: I am a chronically optimistic person so I still don't regret the surgery (though sometimes my mind moves in that direction). I am also not even an itsy bitsy bit suicidal. I have a 4 year old and 2 year old and the thought of dying fills me with absolute dread - that dread of leaving my two children alone is a big part of why I had this surgery. My husband has been…

With battling weight most of my life 10 years ago I got a lap band put in. I am now 57 years old, 15 years ago I was diagnosed with type two diabetes At the time my Lap Band was put in my weight was 230 pounds. That might not sound like a lot of weight but for a male 5’8 it was a lot for me. In addition to having type two diabetes I have also had two neck surgeries and three back surgeries over the years. The Lap Band gave me significant weight loss. I got down from 230 to 160-165. I also lowered my Metformin from 1000 mg to 500 mg. I lost approximately 70 pounds of weight and maintained this weight for about nine years. To say that it was an easy road for me would…

Had my RNY surgery March 9th and have lost 49 lbs but only lost two all last month. I was in hospital 3 days start of July with liver enzyme issues and my TSH (thyroid) numbers had went from hypo to hyperthyroid. Dr took me off synthroid for 3 days and then went back on 1/2 dose (50 mcg). Did that for a week and a half and the mental fog and sluggishness came back. Dr took me off synthroid completely. I go back Aug 20th to have TSH checked again. Could my going on and off and on and off synthroid be causing this drastic slow down in weight loss? I am still 30 lbs from my goal of 160 and was losing 2 lbs a week before this all happened. I have really enjoyed reading everyo…

I'm having just a horrible night and having a bit of an emotional breakdown-feeling scared, powerless, out of control. Right now, I feel like I made a huge mistake and have somehow made my life worse by having an irreversible surgery. I've had a horrible time since I got home. I'm hoping this will all change and I can at some point reflect back on this post and declare myself a drama-queen. I'm 5 days out. I still have a lot of gas and it doesn't seem to go away despite my walking and doing everything I should. I can't tolerate proteins yet and seem to be working out an ileus that I fear will never go away. I still have mu…
