Okay RYN Family, I am 3 months post op! Started my regular diet Wednesday and even before, I have been pooping everytime you turn around! I drink and wait 10minutes before eating and after I eat I wait 30 min. It still seems as if I am drinking, eating and pooping. My butt is having a romance with the toilet paper and I am hating it! One day I wiped so much my butt split! I know TMI! I hope this will resolve soon! I went shopping today, I hate eaten my breakfast did not have anything to drink a matter of fact was afraid to drink 30 min after the fact but my stomach rumbled and made obnoxious soundds I was so embarassed! I went and got me some Gas X to take right the…

Non-scale victory. I’m at the doctor and the REGILAR sized blood pressure cuff was used on me with no question! In the rememberable past, I’ve only had the large or extra large (leg) cuff that would fit around my significant arms. Sometimes, if a larger cuff was not available, my pressure would be measured on my forearm or wrist.

I posted awhile ago that I found out I was pregnant. And when I went my drs gave me a whole lecture even tho I was just a month shy of what I was supposed to wait (we weren’t trying I was told I had less than a 1% chance of ever having a baby because I’ve suffered several miscarriages in the past) anyway they scared the hell outta me and made me think this pregnancy wasn’t going to be successful. But I am currently 20 weeks and expecting a baby boy ? the baby has a two vessel cord so they are keeping a close eye on him but everything looks good! Only the BPD was measuring a bit behind (only 2-3days) everything else was either measuring right or a few days ahead ? early pr…

I am 12 weeks post op and I have lost 35 pounds. My concern is in the first 6 weeks I lost 26 of those pounds and in the last 6 weeks I have only lost 9 pounds. I had RNY and started at 294 pounds. I was told to increase my calories to 800-1,000 which is really difficult to get in and increase protein to 80 grams and I feel like the scale still isn’t moving. I’m so discouraged. I feel like I’m wasting the time that this surgery is the most effective and already struggling when the surgery is suppose to be at its peak. What am I doing wrong?!

I am exactly 5 months post op today, and am doing great! I'm not the biggest loser, but my loss has been fairly steady and I'm happy. So far I'm down 64 pounds since surgery (105 total) and a total of 40 inches since surgery (including 7 from my waist). Still a ways to go to get to goal, but I'm committed for the long run. NSVs I am walking around 2 miles most days. Pre surgery, I could walk but was in pain from arthritis and tendinitis after a very small amount I went hiking last weekend and did 6 miles pretty easily I've outgrown pretty much all my old clothes, even the "small" ones from storage My arthritis pain is significantly lower…

Do anyone have any good ice-cream ideas, I am lactose intolerant even moreso since the surgery and trying to find a good TCBY or ice-cream that would suffice my cravings. I have tried the no sugar popsicles and fudge bars but really want the taste of ice cream without all of the sugar and milk interaction? Thanks in advance!

I am on Day 2 of my Pre-Op diet and I am STRUGGLING. I feel like I am starving. I am so hungry. The shakes are doing nothing for me. I hate drinking them. I am drinking my water, but the hunger pangs and headaches seem never ending and it is only DAY TWO. My surgery is on June 9th. I hope I can make it the whole two weeks. Did anyone else struggle with the Pre-Op diet? Did you cheat?

I had RNY-gastric bypass on 03-16-20. I am diabetic and have been for many years. Pre-op, we were having issues maintaining my blood sugar over 70 and I received dextrose via IV twice before my surgery started. The evening after my surgery, I was still having hypoglycemia issues requiring IV intervention as I was still not able to take anything by mouth. A couple days after my surgery, I began to have issues with high blood sugar that has required me to take insulin. Up to this point my blood sugar has been managed with pills. I have never been on insulin before. I have been following my diet but continue to have super high blood sugars. Sometimes into the 300-400…

It felt Soooooooooo Goooooooood! We walked 2 miles and did it again on Tuesday, Wednesday got rained out but we also celebrated 25 years of wedding bliss! WooHooo! Hi all, I'm new to this forum and wanted to garner some opinions on having a gastric bypass in Poland or other eastern european countries. I'm 26 years old and have been a yo-yo dieter since I was a teenager, I'm currently 120kg (12 months ago, I was 85kg). I'm sick of the constant cycling and feel the bypass will be one of the tools I can use to maintain a steady weight. From everything I have read about the procedure, I've found myself favoring the bypass over the sleeve. So if you have experience of having a sleeve/ bypass op in Europe please get in touch, I'd be keen to have your input. Jordan.

Its been a LONG process but I have my date. I will be joining the looser bench on June 30th. I have had mixed emotions after getting my date. I keep asking myself I am making a good decision. Did anyone else feel this way?

  16. While in the process of doing my requirements for WLS my husband was laid off 3 weeks ago, and we are on his insurance. All I had left to do was my mental health evaluation, finally got that done this past Monday, just waiting on the report to be sent to my Doctor, then they will send for approval. We are able to keep Cobra coverage until August. I am so afraid they won’t approve me just because we are Cobra, what if they just think they can hold out until we are no longer on the plan!!!

So I had a sleeve to bypass revision on 3/11. I am so lucky I had it when I did because of this virus. Anyway, I was worried because with my sleeve I lost 118 in a year and heard with the revisions it is much slower. Like everyone else, I want my excess weight gone as quickly as possible. Well, I am happy to to say I’ve lost 18lbs in 4 weeks. It’s a little slower than it was with my sleeve, but still, 18 POUNDS!!! I already can see the difference and I’m back in size 12’s. The only issue I’ve had is with my pain pump incision. I seem to have an abscess under it but that isn’t related to weight loss. I’m really happy with my progress so far. So I’m posting this for anyone …

  18. Hello, just wanted to share my story. It’s quite unique, and I’m hoping I hear some positives because I’m so depressed. 17 years ago I had a gastric bypass. I was 345 lbs and due to terrible back, I decided to do the surgery. The bypass went well, no complications. When it was time to introduce solids, I simply couldn’t. Everything made me dump..soups, eggs, everything including shakes. I stopped eating and ended up having a reversal to save my life. The reversal happened 5 months after bypass. Since then I’ve suffered every single day with gerd. Now I have a hiatel hernia that’s 4 mm with a benign mass and an ulcer. I just saw a surgeon and he said no other opt…

  20. Here I go, day 1, 4/29/2020
Goals:
1. logging my food with my fitness pal.
2. Tracking my weight loss in inches, lbs, BMI, and Pbf.
3. Maintain at least 3 long walks (3 miles or more) in the park each week.

I hope the tracking will help keep me motivated. The logging will help me be aware. The exercise will show faster results.

Challenges to overcome before surgery... not proud of it but I drink too much so tapering the number of drinks each week will get get me there. Kinda like a countdown approach. Currently 6 drinks a night on average ... hope to be at 6 per week in 6 - 8 weeks.

Then there’s the smoking... yep 30 years of it... gonna start working on that on …

Hey everyone! I'm looking for advice and encouragement. I had my weight loss surgery in December 2016, so I'm 3.5 years out now. I dropped around 160 pounds, from my biggest being 360 and my smallest being 187. I was so blessed to lose so much in about 14 months. Maintenance was relatively easy at first. I purposefully gained 15 pounds because being 6'2 with a large build, 187 started getting me questions about being sick. 200-205 is my personal goal and sweet spot, where I feel the best and think I look the best. Fast forward to September 2019. I was having my first endoscopy since my surgery, as a follows up to Barrett's esophagus that was found when I had my bypa…

At what point did you realize that the operation was the best (Or one of the best) decisions you have ever made? I’m approaching 6 months and I’m getting there. I wasn’t sure how it would turn out but it’s been good. I’ve asked myself this question many times but dropping my BMI a couple categories and taking into account the virus risk factors, I’m pretty happy about the decision and I’m almost ready to say best decision I’ve ever made for my health. With that being said I am super afraid of going backwards and hope I can keep that fear.

I’ve tried to project my Future weight with a half dozen weight calculators. They seem kind of mixed but I’m hoping to beat the ones I’ve used. Pre surgery weight 305 surgery weight 283 current weight 267 (13 days post op) I would love to get down to 150-155. Most calculators say 200 ish do you use the projections / statistics Has anyone beat them by a lot?

The surgeon told me they were common with people who has had weight loss surgery. He also said if I hadn't come to the hospital when I had I would had died. I lost a lot of blood. Thing is, I was in no pain leading up to this. I all of a sudden got dizzy, passed out, and when I came to I was sick to my stomach. I ran to the bathroom and there was a huge amount of blood coming from my bowels. This was 4 days ago. I spent 2 days in the hospital and am still weak. 28. Question for gastric bypasser’s who take Duloxetine/Cymbalta: do you take the capsule whole or open/sprinkle the contents into food? I have been opening/sprinkling since surgery but read somewhere that we shouldn’t. My concern is if we don’t, then capsule could pass through us whole, largely intact with less absorption? My Dr. did comment that as long as I take it I will need to take Pepcid to prevent ulcers. I tried to go off it last week but musculoskeletal and nerve pain from last year’s back surgery returned with intensity so started back on it 30 minutes ago. Any input will be greatly appreciated!?

Here is my plan as I start this journey. I am enrolled in a 90 Day program to acquire insurance approval for the gastric bypass surgery. During this time I have to prepare mentally and physically to accept and adhere to a 600 calorie diet after surgery, learn to excercise regularly, stop smoking, stop drinking alcohol. All of which are very positive life changes that I am ready to welcome. I don't expect it to be easy, in fact I try not to think about how hard it is really going to be. Here is a short summary of how I envision the process. Starting this week I am adhering to a strict 1500 calorie diet, June 1st it will reduce to a 1200 calorie diet, July …

I am grateful for having gastric bypass to have the tool to combat metabolic disorders and inability to exercise due to disability (post exertional malaise) and I was at the point it was all or nothing. All my fight was getting me nowhere fast. I know I’ve come a long way, I’ve also paid a hefty price physically and am still dealing with many health challenges. But I also know my body could not carry the burden of all that weight. And I will do everything in my power to maintain the weight loss. i reached goal Sometime last month. I overshot it a little. 31. I’ve had a hard time finding foods I tolerate and rarely eat meat and stick to low carb foods as well. My issue is keeping things as simple as possible due to severely limited energy. For the most part it’s the same basic foods ie. a veggie burger and an egg. At least for my one main meal which is lunch. I found Real Good Foods products, I started with their chicken enchiladas that are in my calorie range, and low carb, plus my pouch didn’t totally reject them. To be honest nausea right now is a constant companion as is pain but that’s another subject. The enchiladas taste really good. Just the right portion size for where I’m at around 4.69 ounces, 190 calories, 20 grams…

  34. Hi RNY pals! I’m almost 2 months post op and have been really struggling with food and fluids. I had an endoscopy a couple of weeks ago and the doc stretch my pouch a bit but not too much since it’s still early on. I’ve had this continuous horrible taste in my mouth, I have no desire to eat anything due to my taste buds changing and every day I’m fatigued or just don’t feel good. When do things get to a baseline? Will I enjoy foods again or be able to have dinner with friends? I guess I’m just in a rough spot and wanted to see if anyone is or had experienced anything similar or can share so tips or stories? thanks so much!

I'm 6wks post op now, and this evening after dinner (i had a few bites of a cheese and spinach omelette cooked with low fat cooking spray not oil), i went to the bathroom and it was mostly oil coming out. Last time I experienced this, i was taking Orlistat weight loss pills I know our digestive tract is completely changed after surgery, but is it normal to be so oily so soon after? Would it have been what i ate? I didn't get dumping, no nausea etc. Just went to the bathroom about 2hrs after eating. Just wondered if anyone else has had the same thing Thanks xx

  36. Weighed myself yesterday morning, and I was 227 lbs. The weight I was that got me to start this journey to begin with was 427 lbs., almost two years ago. Sure, today I fluctuated up 4 lbs. due to water retention from what I ate yesterday (and not having a bowel movement until after I'd eaten breakfast), but I count that as a win. For reference, I was 360 lbs on the day of my surgery, 13 months ago.

I can't get my blood test done for a while due to COVID-19. Just wondered if one of the internal changes after surgery were thyroid hormone production? Thanks

I struggle with meal prep, food logs, etc. I’m either lazy or not that organized. Sometimes I fall into the trap of just not eating one day if I don’t know what to eat. I drink protein and get my fluids in. It’s just the extra real food that I struggle with. I can’t really tolerate chicken etc just yet. Do you have a easy go to meal for when all else fails?

  40. Hey everyone! I’m new here, but have come to this site because I’m getting scared and am trying to find some help. I had a gastric bypass over 2 years ago going on 3 and had been doing really well with keeping my weight off. Then I became pregnant and had my beautiful baby boy this December, but I just cannot seem to lose my baby weight. Has anyone else had this issue? Is the pouch reset something to consider and does it really work? Any thoughts on how I can start gaining control back of my gastric bypass and lose this weight? Thanks! ?

Despite the apocalypse, my program had switched over to doing zoom appointments! I did the psych eval today with him. He said ultimately the surgeon is the one who decides, but he's classing me as moderate to low risk of mental health complications. Overall a green light! I seriously thought I'd get denied because I have PTSD related to domestic abuse. ?????

  46. I was thinking this morning. With the current Shelter in Place requirements, working from home, and having to cook most of my meals - pre surgery I would have definitely gained weight. I would have eaten my feelings and stressed, and I probably wouldn't have made it a point to walk everyday. With this surgery I am losing weight. It's not easy. I am fighting head hunger every day. And yes, I'm still stressed, but walking is not only good physically, it's good mentally - getting fresh air and sunshine. Wishing everyone health and happiness. Stay safe and take care of yourselves! Lori

    Started by Guest,

I will be 5 weeks post-op tomorrow, and I am supposed to be adding a greater variety of foods to my diet, and eventually, increasing my calories. I am finding that it is becoming more and more difficult to eat. I eat either yogurt or cottage cheese for breakfast (1.5 ounces), and then something either mid afternoon or very early evening - again, 1.5 ounces. If I take even one additional bite, I have 2-3 hours of nausea. I do have my protein drinks, but I don't think I'm getting more than about 500 calories a day. My weight has also been stalled for two weeks. Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions will be gratefully received. Thanks so much.

I'm moving on to the soft phase of my diet next week, which will be week 4 post op. But I'm very picky. What kind of food have you guys had on this stage of the diet? I've so far been able to stomach mashed potato, banana, yoghurt and soggy cornflakes ?

I'm slightly frustrated with my progress. I'm fatiguing faster than I think I should be. It's probably normal but any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
