I wanted to add first that my surgeon isn't listed in the directory but his name is Mustafa Aman through Guthrie Clinic in Sayre, PA.
I am 48 years old and at the moment, close to 3 months post-op. I have lost a total of 86 lbs as of yesterday; some of this was pre-surgery through the program. I live in the Southern Tier of NY, am happily married to a wonderful man from Italy and have 3 grown children and one new granddaughter.
I have been a full-time student the last two years with health problems linked to obesity and my age after years of being close to 300 lbs. Thanks to the surgery, I am starting a good paying job at d**k's Manufacturing, working with my husband and son in different Depts (my son is security). I graduate from College in 6 months.
We love our home and the wonderful area we live in. We have 2 beloved Holland lops name Gomez and Morticia, 2 guinea pigs, one absolutely cherished Syrian hamster-Matilda, 3 chihuahuas named Lolli, Bella and Grendel and we've recently acquired a very special baby black kitten found abandoned in bushes during a rain storm 3 days before Halloween at 3 weeks old. Her name is Grizelda.
I did have complications after the surgery and was in the hospital 6 days. They wanted me to stay longer but I did everything in my power to get home. We had to drive long-distance and my husband was in a hotel all that time, unable to visit for covid restrictions. The first month, no lie, was very difficult for me. I rarely used pain meds but did use antibiotics and had so much nausea and vomiting. My experience is not the norm for this surgery and want this to only educate with all aspects. They believe I had a sensitivity to the anesthesia used. It created some bad afteraffects and I ended up, according to the surgeon and nurses, passing out when they tried to get me more focused after the second day. When I passed out, I broke open some stitches and as I was put in the bathroom, I vomitted violently as I was put down by some staff. It created mass bruising and swelling to the already open lacerations.
After about 3 weeks, the pain started to get better. At one month, just like magic and overnight, I felt new the next morning. I didn't feel so fatigued that I could barely walk or stand and I was able to do things. My very swollen and pregnant looking stomach became flat in days after that and I was feeling really new. I had gained about 13 lbs from the surgery and kept that for the first three weeks. It was extremely deluding. However, the next two weeks after I hit my month mark, I dropped rapidly and ended up losing over 30 lbs in the next 3 weeks.
At this point, I am exercising like my old self and still losing every few days or so. I am ok with even a couple lbs a week.
