Hi

I'm nearly 4 months post op for the bypass. Does anyone know if hair loss is a side effect of surgery? Mine is falling out by the handful which is causing me a lot of concern.

I haven't had any post op checks or consultations to ask for advice due to covid so feel like I'm out on a limb.

My surgeon warned me about this before surgery and said getting enough protein and vitamins daily should prevent this. While I don't meet my daily 75g protein requirements, I take vitamins and 3 months post op, thankfully no hair-loss problems yet.

I don't know if anything can really prevent it since it's caused by trauma to the body - although making sure you're taking your vitamins and getting enough protein may help it from getting worse than it would be anyway. It may also help with the new growth.

not everyone loses hair so you may be one of the lucky ones - or you may just lose a little. I didn't lose very much.
