Wow amazing after so much time and effort I'll be going into hospital tomorrow morning...exactly 24 hours I'll be at the hospital. Will be spending today washing and packing everything I need to take, getting a little anxious just hope everything goes smoothly and the recovery is not too hard.. I've done so good I did my own preop diet for 9 weeks just cut out all sugar; junk; and went high Protein low carbs low fats. I'm officially down from highest weight of 322 and today I'm 258lbs ? I assume I'll take on some gas weight but still I'm so happy I'm aiming to get below 200. My ultimate end goal would be 180-190lbs But I'm really hoping …

Hey guys, I’m 4 weeks post op for gastric bypass and everything I eat gives me the worst stomach pains. I’m doing my mushy foods, i was thinking of seeing my doctor soon but I just wanted to know if this is normal for any else? I know I’m going to be told it’s still quite soon but it’s at a point where the idea of eating is just putting me off if it’s going to cause pain. I do eat slowly and I stop when I am full. I’ve been feeling quite nauseous but not as often.

I need to know if there are other people like me. From day one I have not had any decrease at all in my appetite, I have been able to eat anything I've tried or wanted to eat and not gotten sick. Nothing has ever gotten stuck. I can eat chicken, real rice, bread, etc with no problem. I chew my food well but I know I dont eat slowly enough and yet I still never feel sick. Obviously if I eat these things it's not every day and not very much. I do feel the restriction in terms of each meal that I eat but I am hungry all the time and I feel like I need to eat every 2 hours or so. I hear so many people talk about things getting stuck or never being hungry. I know I had a …

I hate to ask this question because it seems so crazy, but...I am 6 months post gastric bypass and had been losing at what seemed a "normal" rate. Then I upped my calories to 1000 to 1100 a day and now I'm losing really fast. I've lost over 8 pounds in a week. I know that mathematically it is impossible to burn 3500 calories a day, so how and why am I losing weight so fast?? Should I be worried, or enjoy it?

Hello all, Been a long time since I was here. Lots going on. on 20 Oct 2019 it will be 3 years since my RNY surgery. I have a checkup with my bariatric surgeon today. It is supposed to be every year, but since the emergency surgery last year it has been every six months. I have stopped going to support group (I think it is great but I am not getting anything out of it). I am still about 155 lbs and am pretty happy. Still have sugar issues, but everything else is ok (per blood tests). I get to go next month for the MRCP on my pancreas (I am hoping the IPMN hasn't grown). I flew from Detroit to Pharr, TX a couple of weeks ago to pick up a Mazda MX5 …

I haven’t been on in a while, because I’ve been so busy lately. I hope to catch up today and gain some more inspiration here! I have been doing really good sticking to my personal goal of watching my calories and walking more prior to my surgery consultation to make sure I’m as committed now without the surgery to maintain this lifestyle afterwards. I’ve lost 21 pounds total since August. I’m back in the 200’s, which was my first big goal to get to on my own. I’ve been going to the monthly WLS meetings, met with my primary care Dr twice now. She faxed her approval to the dr for my surgery. She’s very supportive and pleased with the results I’ve had prior to surgery. She t…

ok so i got into it with someone today and i must say that i have learned that people who are stuck on their own opinions drive me nuts. Here is the thing, they call it the practice of medicine right? that means that it is constantly evolving and changing and growing right? So basically the issue was the following. the first comment out of her mouth was I just dont understand why you dont just stop eatting? Its not that hard just stop. Why have your guts ripped out. I know 10 people that have had this surgery and 8 of the 10 gained all their weight back. I asked if they followed the diet and she said No but they all were just like you, they said they were going to follow …

I am waiting on my surgery date but trying to come up with timeframe to plan to be out of work. Can I get some real life time out of work timelines - for Gastric Bypass RNY specifically? I work a desk job and can potentially work from home when needed too. I want to get back to work as quickly as possible as I am trying to just take PTO and not a formal leave. Don’t really want to have to tell anyone why am out out of the office because I don’t want to raise any alarms or deal with any judgement on my decision. I had my gallbladder out back in May and was incredibly tired and cloudy headed for almost 3 weeks after...maybe it will be similar to that recovery? My surgeon …

Hi I had my surgery 10 weeks ago but for the last week have been suffering with the worst nausea that I have ever experienced to a point that I can’t function at work and the thought of eating or drinking is the last thing I want to do. Has anyone had the same issues and how did you get through it and what did the hospital say caused it? I just can’t stand it any longer and wonder if it’s anything sinister. I have been to the hospital and they told me it’s normal to have some nausea and to take lansaprazole and an anti sickness drug, I’m at the end of my tether with it, can anyone suggest anything to help?

Just had a final discussion with my surgeon. He tried his best to explain the way he does the bypass. He said the 120cm is the limb of the bypass & He does a small thin pouch vs a round one? He said the thinner one is safer and easier to heal because less distance for food to travel? Should be same volume as pouch just slimmer like a mini sleeve then of course the bypassing. Getting excited for the bypass I'm 55 lbs down but still plan on losing another 70-80 yet Thanks guys for all your kind words

I can go all day with little desire to snack. I can happily go late into the day on 600 calories. However, no matter what (even eating evenly throughout the day), I find myself eating a lot at night! Does anyone have any helpful tips? I have some, but I’m open to new strategies I don’t want to go backwards AT ALL and this is my downfall right now thank you in advance ❤️

I'm sorry, but i have no one else to vent to so i am venting here... /rant on Ok so my surgeon is great. His staff go over everything with a fine tooth comb and make sure that you will pretty much be approved before anything is sent to the insurance company. I meet all the criteria. I have done everyting asked. I went to my psyc consult almost 2 months ago. I was told they had sent the paperwork to my surgeon's office but i called today and they havnt recieved it. So i called my psych dr office and his secretary said, ohh i'm so sorry he hasnt finished it yet. I am hoping he will be done this week. This is beyond frustrating. I dont understand it. Hey everyone that is active so far on this website. I'd love to start a thread under the Surgery Support area so I started a thread. I thought it would be nice to help each other through those "bad" days. If we can't offer exact advice we can still support one another and offer friendship to get through the day. I haven't had my surgery yet but, I have been through WLS before so will help anyway I can. Anyone else in?

I have been hitting the gym hard and I am 9lbs away from reaching the half way point to my weight loss goal. Tuesday I will start my six week out from surgery. I started at 335 and I'm at 282. Everyone is saying how amazing I look. I'm even getting compliments from the guys at work. They are attorneys and usually are jerks and only care about themselves. So for them to say something nice is like wow. I'm getting so much positive attention and I am not use to it. Hehe I hope to reach 270 by the end of week eight!

Hi All, So this is sort of a weird question, but did anyone else read their operation report and know how much of their jejunum was bypassed? When I spoke with my surgeon at my 3 week post op appointment, he mentioned that he bypassed “a bit more” of the jejunum than average, because he also makes the pouch a little bit larger “to improve quality of life.” From what I understand my pouch is about the size of a small tangerine/golf ball and in reading the op report it looks like most of my jejunum is bypassed. Which does not bother me in the least. I’m actually pleased with that surgical approach and I also realize that I’ll have to be extra diligent with taking my vitam…

I had severe GERD prior to surgery and was very hopeful that it would be gone after surgery. My doctor told me continue taking a proton pump inhibitor for 1 month after surgery. I followed her orders and had no reflux issues. However, when it came time to stop taking the reflux meds I discovered the reflux is still there, albeit much less so. For those that had reflux pre and post RNY, did it eventually go away with weight loss? Are you still taking reflux meds and how far out from surgery are you?

Surgery was earlier today. The pain was somewhat intense after waking up, but it’s being well managed now! I just went for my first walk around the unit and let out some burps. No gas is coming out the other end yet. Keeping ice chips down, and not sure when I’ll move to medicine cups of water but hopefully soon!

Hi,guys! So,I am 14 months after surgery, and I started binge eating.I was 279 pounds on my surgery day and I lost 142 lbs.I still want to lose 5-6 pounds, but lately I have been having those binge eating days, when I can eat up to 3000 cals.Does anyone have the same issue? On other days,I eat between 1200-1400 cals, sometimes less, and I do cardio almost every day,so I am not gaining weight yet.I do pouch reset almost every 2 weeks to prevent pouch stretching,it helps for a while until I have my another episode. Please, offer some tips how to stop doing it...Thank you!

I’ve been taking things in stride as best I can but am rather miffed at doctors and events today so I am just going to rant even though I need to be trying to sleep. Prior to my gastric bypass surgery and gallbladder removal My gastroenterologist insisted I have a colonoscopy due to the fact that previous ct scan had shown severe narrowing of my colon and a recent ct showed possible colitis. But the colonoscopy had to wait until after my surgery. I went through three days of clear liquids and hellish prep trying to swallow the required liquids. While the nurse was great I was literally the last patient and they were already starting to close down the facility b…

So I am 1 year from surgery. Yesterday I felt a bit off. I have some pain and tenderness in the upper left area of my belly under the ribs. I am not constipated and although not so hungry can keep food down no problems (so know it's not a blockage). Any ideas? It's not so sore moving around but hurts when prodding around. Ideas?

I feel thrown for a loop- but because I already have GERD my surgeon recommends RNY instead of the sleeve. It makes me nervous, just seems so much more "invasive" although he said the recovery isn't vastly different. Anyone else thought they wanted the sleeve but ended up RNY? My insurance requires 6 month wait for surgery, so I have time to digest this (pun intended... LOL) Just looking for reassurance I guess.

I went in for gastric bypass surgery last Tuesday... actually a sleeve to bypass revision (had sleeve in 2010). Long story short, once the surgeon had me opened up a very large hiatal hernia was discovered. She determined gastric bypass could not be performed safely at this point due to the extensive repair of my hiatal hernia. She wants me to heal from the HH REPAIR surgery for 90 days, then do the sleeve to bypass revision. Needless to say I'm pretty bummed out GP surgery wasnt done, but also glad the HH was fixed. Has anyone else experienced this? Alot of mixed emotions, whether I should consult a different surgeon, or talk to an attorney.

So I have signed consent for the bypass and I am just waiting now to get my surgery date! In waiting I have been introduced to the Thrive community, all seems pretty awesome but I am curious if anyone else in the Bariactric community is using/has usedThrive before and or after and if they are seeing any benifits to this system? Its seems pretty awesome on paper and its all natural and seems it could be benificial to aid in helping get our nutrients.

Ok, so I went through all the months of nutrition classes, blood work, stress test, EKG, and x-rays. I am revising from the sleeve to the bypass because of really bad acid reflux and a hiatal hernia. After Aetna kept giving me trouble I was losing all hope of getting approved. Yes, after all the work I did they said my appeal was DENIED! However, I received a letter in the mail on Friday that ordered Aetna to approve my surgery within 72 hours. Medicare had stepped in and said basically that Aetna is my fiduciary in the medical insurance and they are responsible for keeping me healthy. Due to the fact that bypass is proven to stop reflux Medicare overturned their deci…

Hello guys, I just wanted to ask if any of you experience bloating after eating meals? I’m almost 3months post gastric bypass. I’m vegetarian if that makes a difference, I don’t eat very fast and I also chew my foods finely. I always wait 30mins before and after eating to drink any liquids. It’s not intense bloat like I’m filling myself up because I don’t eat to a point where I am bursting, I just stop when I know I feel sufficiently full. Just thought would ask, thanks

Yesterday I spent the day in the ER. I had called my Surgeons office because I had severe pain and hard time drawing a breath. So I underwent a esophgram and a chest Xray. After 2 hours they called and told me to go to the ER. I got in pretty quickly and the first thing the DR told me was that it sounded like a blood clot. Scared me to death! I sure didn't want to be on blood thinners for life! But, after the chest CT they told me it was pleurisy, whew! I had started weaning myself off of pain killers a day and a half earlier and when I got home I took a dose and felt much better. Has anyone else had pleurisy after surgery?
