Hey guys! So I'm just starting medication for my ADHD and my doctor prescribed me Concerta. I've been reading a little bit about it and with it being an extended time release medication, I'm thinking maybe it wont work because of malabsorption issues after gastric bypass. I gave it the benefit of the doubt, though, and waited to try it for a few days before judging. But I don't feel like it's doing anything. I've taken Adderall before and immediately felt an improvement. Could this just be because it's in my head? Has anyone had any similar issues with these types of medications? What worked for you? Recommendations? I forgot to tell my psychiatrist about my su…

I had the bypass done 8/15. Prior to the surgery, I was super excited and ready. The day after surgery I started to regret everything. I was in pain, nauseas and not feeling well at all. It had only been a day so I thought I wasn't being fair. I started moving more and felt a bit better. Here I am....5 days later...balling my eyes out because I have to do this darn puree diet for 4 weeks!!! I want food, REAL FOOD. I am depressed and question myself; was this really worth it? I had a revision from band to bypass on 2/25, so just over 3 weeks ago. I find that throughout the day I'll get this sharp pain (similar to the feeling of a muscle spasm) on my left side, just under my ribs. Sometimes it even kicks in when I start eating (still on soft /pureed foods). Doesn't usually last long. At night, I can't lay on my back in bed! I get these horrible sharp pains. As soon as I move to my side, it ends. I'm trying to convince myself it's from healing and my body is just trippin' while trying to heal LOL. My doctor did tell me my pain in the left side would be worse and take longer to heal. Anybody else have a similar situation?

Yeah. I know. Everyone stalls. Everyone has this issue. That doesn't make it any less annoying or any less frustrating to see around the same number on the scale, to see the fluctuation up and down. I'm not sure I'm actually on a stall or if this is just fluctuation, but I weigh literally the same I did last Monday today. I was lower yesterday. Of course, last Monday was a minimum on the fluctuation, whereas today is slightly higher than yesterday. I'm just frustrated because I'm not eating a heck of a lot in general, though last week I was getting about 1000-1100 calories in a day (while hitting my protein goals of 75+g.)

I have been waiting for actually getting a surgery date and jumping through all of the hoops and testing but now that i have a date I am nervous. Am I making the right decision? If I have failed so many times before - will this actually really work this time? I am so afraid I will fail and need to get myself in the right headspace. I have been trying out the pre-op diet early and am losing but very slowly. Can I even compare my weight loss trends today for after surgery at all? I went to a support group last week at my bariatric center and heard all sorts of great stories but finding it sooo hard to imagine I won’t be hungry - which I heard from so many of the participa…

Hi everyone, I’m new here. My journey began July 25th 2011. I went in to have a sleeve at 250lbs. 7 months later I left the hospital for good with a gastric bypass. From my original surgery my stomach swelled shut, and started growing together. I had to have a peg tube inserted to get nutrients. I had multiple infections, a pulmonary embolism. Finally the surgeons decided a gastric bypass was what would correct my body. Finally had the gastric bypass, and went home feeling so much better. I went home eating solid foods already. About 2 months later I had a bowel rupture, and after more infections and 2 more surgeries, one removing my gallbladder, I was finally r…

I just had the worst conversation with my sister. I had called her to tell her I came from the endodontist who told me I have to have a root canal. I told her that as I was leaving he was like “good luck with your surgery, but you already look great.” And I was annoyed. So I was telling her I was annoyed and she said why? And I said “I guess I’m not comfortable with people commenting on my body” and she said “well you better get used to it and you’re going to lose weight so quickly that your mind won’t be able to keep up.” And I said “and also how does he know I’m having surgery to look good? What if I want to feel good?” And she said “I feel like most people have surgery…

I am 43 days out from having gastric bypass. I would say about 80% of the time that I eat I wind up throwing up, because it is getting stuck. I am chewing my food until there is almost nothing there. It happens with meat, veggie, eggs it doesn't matter what it is. Things that I have eaten before just fine. Dr. Richards mentioned having my esophagus stretched. Has anyone had to have their esophagus stretched?

Is it normal to gain weight during the puree stage? I've been losing weight nicely but now it seems like I'm gaining. It is hard to get in all the protein so I'm working on that. But just wanted to know if anyone else has had this experience.

I’m still very early in my Gastric Bypass process. I was so excited, then I visited my friend today in the hospital. She just had gastric sleeve done July 5, she had a leak and was sent home anyway. A week or so later she started feeling very sick, running a fever and having shortness of breath. She was taken to the hospital where she found out she was in septic shock. 2 stents and 2 drains later and almost dying she is on tube feeds for the next 8-12 weeks but slowly recovering. Now I’m second guessing myself about my decision to have the gastric bypass surgery done. I’m not posting this to scare any other new comers, I’m just genuinely freaking out and looking for some …

My date is set and I'm thinking to myself - is this really the right thing? Yes, I KNOW it is! I need to be healthy - my joints just ache and other obese issues cause trouble. But, I read over stories all the time here - both good and bad. Then wonder - What if I end up having consequences? And then scary in another way - what happens when I'm thin? (Having not really been anywhere near thin since 15.) Anyway - I just had to put this out there to other understanding souls :)

I'm just curious if the Dr's recommend a certain or special kind of protein powder after surgery. Right now I do a smoothie almost daily for breakfast with Optimum Nutrition Powder. However, 1 scoop plus 8oz of milk is 200 calories. Two of these a day would pretty much put me at my calories for the day early on, which I'm guessing would be fine since I would get most of my protein in .

I haven’t been here for awhile. A couple of years after my surgery, I thought I was good and didn’t need any help from anyone anymore. Boy was I wrong! I lost 100 pounds. In the past 2 years 45 pounds has creeped back on. Now I’m back and ready to focus on losing (again). Any tips to reboot my system? Any help and guidance would be greatly appreciated!

My weight loss has slowed a lot lately. I was going from losing a pound a day, to now maybe a pound a week. I have calculated that over the last two months I have lost 11 lbs and I am 6 months out. For the last two months I have been bouncing around the same weight for a while... it's been a real struggle to lose. Can some of you 5 month plus people tell me how much you are losing per week and per month? Thank you!

I am 2 weeks out from bypass surgery, and have only lost 6 lbs. I know my water intake is not as good as it should be. Doesn’t this sound weird? I see my surgeon at the end of the week, and she said she expects I will have lost 20 lbs. I have lost 20 lbs since my last weigh in at the office.

It’s been six years since I have my surgery. Lost over 100+lbs. However in the past few years, it’s slowly regaining - approx 70lbs up atm. Most because I went vegan for two years and regained a ton because I ate quinoa mostly (carb galore) ughhh...mad at myself for that. I’m a lacto-ovo vegetarian now and looking for some help. Can anyone suggest any tips on how I can jump start my weight loss again? I’m thinking about doing the 5 day pouch test to start.

Hi there. 5 days post op. I have no issues with getting my protein and liquid down, just the opposite I can still take bigger drinks. Is this something to worry about? It makes me wonder if my pouch is bigger? Also I have had no nausea. I am experiencing sharp stabbing pain by my incision sight-it appears when i try to move. I am also experiencing gas pains. How long does the gas pain last?

Hello Bariatric nation. Well I am super excited to say that my gastric bypass reversal is scheduled for next Wednesday. It took the insurance company only 24 hours to read the doctors notes with test results and ER visit documentation to decide that the procedure is medically necessary. I long for the day I can keep food in and have energy and the stomach ulcers will heal and I can stop taking so much medication. The surgery is on 09/05/2018 I will let everyone know how I feel and the results as time goes on. Thank you to all those that have had such kind words of encouragement.

This full liquid diet is horrible. I just feel hungry all the time. Today is day 5 and I went to Target and all of the sudden got flushed and sweat and dizzy and thought I was gonna faint. I just had a protein shake and broth and Powerade and I’m still hungry. The nutritionist told me you lose your appetite after 4 days but that hasn’t happened to me. I feel like I’m losing my mind.

So this morning I stepped on the scale and saw 179.8. I haven't seen such a low number in 15 years! Of course, I keep thinking 2004 was just 5 or 6 years ago so there was a double WHAAATTTT?? moment for me. I'm over the moon! Had RNY on November 28, 2018 and have lost 96 pounds so far. I truly can't believe it. It's a constant journey of mind and body changes. Still struggling with my "FAT" mind but I'm working on it. Here's to finally kicking this weight issue in the nuts!

I just got my surgery date of 10/15/19. I wish it was sooner but I know it will be here soon enough. I was a little nervous about RNY when my surgeon recommended it to me over VSG but I’m coming around to it now. For some reason the thought of a remnant stomach floating around in my body seems odd. I also don’t like that they can’t endo ever again in case something goes bad with it. My other fear is that an adhesion will mess up my intestines. I had an adhesion once from C sections that attached to my intestines and had to be cut. Anyone have adhesion issues or experiences? Despite my worries, I am quite excited by the wonderful results I see everyone ac…

I'm only adding this post because I hope someone searching gastric bypass sees it. Everyone must make their own decisions about this surgery, but the overwhelming information out there sends the message that gastric bypass is a good thing. Please know that it is not right for everyone and anyone thinking of doing this should take a lot of time to research both the positive and the negatives. Gastric bypass is not the answer to lose weight. It's not realistic and it's not in line with society. If gastric bypass was just a way to eat half of what you normally ate, that would be one thing. I hate that I did this. I'm so mad at myself for listening to everyone else and not li…

So today I went shopping and walked around the whole store without an issue the highest my heart rate was 128 but I hadn’t eaten anything got home ate six thin pretzels with turkey and American cheese. Here it’s super hot so I decided to eat a sugar free popsicle after awhile. And all of a sudden I got super light headed and dizzy. My heart rate went to 144bpm so I went and turned the fan on because I got really warm all of a sudden (it was already 70 degrees inside my house which is perfect for me) just standing and walking five feet to the fan my heart rate went to 160bpm. But my blood pressure went to 153/90 but then dropped to 80/45 when I laid in front of the fan …
