  1. Started by Darktowerdream,

I didn’t know what to title this. My surgery was April 29th, I ended up in the ER the day after my release from the hospital with pneumonia, critically low potassium and acute UTI. I was also diagnosed with esophageal dysphasia. Because of that my follow up appointments got thrown off course. I had two appointments close together. The second appointment he had me go for a upper gi fluoroscopy and endoscopy. Which found stoma stricture, Schatzki ring, sliding hiatal hernia and ulcers. TBH after the endoscopy I didn’t want to schedule my next follow up appointment. And the doctor hadn’t said when. It should have been 2-3 months post-op but it’s almost 4 1/2 months. I …

I have been reading posts and anything I can get my hands on regarding the bypass surgery. One thing I can’t seem to find is anyone who is on pain medications (like morphine and Percocet). I have been in pain management for almost twenty years. Some of my weight is attributed to being on meds for so long. However I cannot stop them. My prior injuries are kept in stasis if I take them. Without the pain is unbearable. My question is can I continue to take my meds following surgery. Haven’t been able to ask dr yet as I’m not scheduled for surgery. I should be first part of October. But I was just stressing if anyone knew the answer. I’d appreciate it if you would let me know…

?So during my sleeve surgery 6/27/2019 my doctor found a small tumor. It was cancerous and very active. It did not show up on any pre op work, he was literally in the right place at the right time. These past few weeks on top of healing from surgery I have been seeing an oncologist. My doctors worked together with me and decided that going to a gastric bypass and bypassing the part of my pouch that is cancerous is safer than putting me on powerful cancer targeting medicine that I would have to take for the next 3 years, Gleevec. The oncologist told me that my case was about 1 in 1000. Normally people come to him with a huge tumor that is beginning to spread cancer and at …

This is the progress just from the first four days of seasoning(Seasoning your corset is the process of slowly breaking in your corset. It allows the steel bones of the fabric to slowly mold to your shape and will result in a longer lasting, more comfortable corset. The seasoning process also gives your body some time to adjust to the pressure of a corset.) ? the corset isn’t even fully seasoned till the month mark. I’m just mad at myself for waiting this long to get one ?. I definitely recommend it! I got mine from alteregoclothing.com.

Well, that was a very unpleasant experience. Of course, I had read it wasn't pleasant by any means but stupidly wasn't eating 'mindfully' and was chatting to my husband while I ate and had one meatball too many (they were tiny teaspoon-sized super soft chicken meatballs). Anyway, I paid the price quite quickly and am absolutely hating this new way of vomiting. WHY is it just bile, dear god it is revolting! I didn't get pain so much as just the feeling that something was a bit stuck. So, lesson learnt, MINDFUL EATING IS A MUST lol

August 16th was my first visit to my Bariatric doctor. Went well and discussed three different options, but wanted to cry when I saw what I weighed. I knew I was over 300 lbs, but didn't realize how much over. I chose to do the Roux-en-y surgery but I have 3 more visits pre-op and then once the insurance gives the go ahead I'll be in surgery by the 2nd week of December. So far, I've had people tell me I'm nuts to do it before Christmas. All I tell them is I'm so ready for this journey. I'll be 50 on the 25th of September. I'm ready for my 50's to be the best years of my life. My Dr office has given me a list of the protein shakes, liquids, and other items to have prior to…

Anyone having Issues with their smell and tastebuds. Smelling food right now makes me ucky and my tastebuds are totally off. Nothing tastes as it should which makes it very hard to eat my puree menu. I get down but it's struggle. Anyone else experience this?

  9. I am curious to hear success stories from people over 350lbs before surgery. I am in this boat and realize this experience may be a little different for people who have more to lose. My date is set for October 1st and I am so excited and nervous and would like to hear some specs on weight loss throughout the process. Since everyone is so different, I would like to see some specs on SW, 3 months out, 6 months out, 1 year out!

  10. I've done all my requirements for the bypass revision, due to hiatal hernia and problems with reflux my dr. says I need to get revised from the sleeve to bypass. Anyone else having trouble with insurance company getting this approved.? I'm really suffering over here and they just tell me my appeal is pending. Anyone know how I can push this forward? Help!

Hi all. I had my surgery 4 months ago and a week later I got my period, and I’ve had it ever since. So nearly 4 months of bleeding. I’ve been to the Dr today and been referred to gynocology but was wondering if anyone has experienced similar?

  12. Hey guys! Just wondering, how many calories do you eat a day (on average)? and how far out are you? Also, how many times a week do you workout and for how long? I eat about 500 cals a day and work out 3 times a week ( I try to burn 800 cals every workout )

My surgeon's office called me few minutes ago saying that my surgeon have a outpatient emergency so they have to reschedule for early october. I'm a little disappointed but I'm a firm believer that things happen for a reason.

A big part of why we all got this particular surgery over any of the others is the malabsorptive aspect. What I'd like to know is if anyone knows if there's an easy way to calculate approximately how many calories we actually absorb per... say, 100 calories.

Start puree foods! Woohooo So, hit me with your 1st 'meal' foods. The nurse suggested an egg or some potato and gravy.

Hi, My doctor doesn’t permit any protein shakes after 2 weeks. I know it’s unusual, but he is a really good doctor. I’m having trouble meeting my protein count! Can I just put protein into the food I’m eating? If so, do you have any suggestions? I’m allergic to nuts if they makes any difference. Thanks

Hi all~ Does anyone else suffer with gout? Mine appears to be familial in that no typical foods or drinks trigger an attack. I have recently been put in Uloric $$$ because I had a reaction to cheap allopurinol. Oh and so far uloric pills aren’t working yet because I am sitting here in gout hell and taking prednisone. Ugh I know being overweight can be a cause so I’m really hoping post RNY that I can possibly get off meds. However, my thin family members are all gout sufferers and take allopurinol daily. Has anyone had gout go away (meaning lower Uric acid levels) post WLS? Thanks!

Hello everyone, just joined this group and am excited! I just had my sleeve surgery 8/29 and I feel starved. I drink 3 protein shakes a day and drink a lot of water. My recommended foods said blenderized lentil, pea or butternut squash soup. I fee like that will make me even more gassy. Any recommendations that worked for others?

Hi! I am a little more than 13 months post-op. Have lost 95 pounds but have stalled for a few months, and have had some bumpy roads getting here (serious double pneumonia for one). I would LOVE a buddy/partner (or buddies/partners - the more the merrier!) to help each other along the way - for support, common sense (i.e. "don't eat that Twinkie!"), all around motivation and friendship. I'm 56, mom of 2 grown kids, a nana to 1. I'm fun and outgoing and a great friend! (I feel like I'm filling out an ad to get a date ☺️) If anyone is interested - please let me know! Oh, I have about 50 pounds or so left to lose. Someone around the Baltimore area would be AWESOME …

  21. I’ve just had a huge bout of diarrhoea which led me to lose over a kilogram (2 lbs) in one day. Obviously mainly cleaning my system out, but concerning. The only thing I can think might have caused it is that I had some watermelon and some rockmelon (cantaloupe). Has anyone had problems with eating this, and if so, what fruit CAN you eat? I seem to be OK with bananas and apples, but not 100% sure. Advice most welcome!

  22. I need help quick before I lose all of my finger nails! My finger nails are so sore from ripping down to the quick. I really don’t know what to do? This just started at month 5. I started losing hair bad about 4 months and upped the vitamins and biotin. I take chewable Bariatric fusion in addition to cal-mag-zinc, k, biotin, A, and fish oil. I get between 75-100 grams of protein daily and average 1000 calories a day. I bought some Hair, skin, and nails and added it one week who but I need a fast fix here. I am not vain about my nails and don’t paint them but just want to keep them for every day use and make them stop hurting. I don’t bite them, don’t drink and don’t smok…

Hi all I had a VSG on 12th August and then developed a volvulus which they tried to fix endoscopically but it failed then ended up being given a bypass on the 21st. So I hadn't read as much about the bypass and all it involves because I had no idea I was going to end up with one The Bariatric nurse rang today and said I need to be on 80g protein a day instead of 60g as with the sleeve. So, my issue is that the protein shakes (slim fast etc) are making me feel really unwell an hour or so after having them and I am guessing it is the high carb count in them even though they are sugar-free. So I am trying to avoid them. Also Vomiting... WHERE HAS IT GONE!? …

I am six months after RnY surgery and everything is going well. I'm happy with my weight loss and feel great. One continuing issue, however, is that my voice has become weak. All of my friends and family have told me that I speak much more softly since the surgery, and there are days when my voice is so shot by the end of the day that I can barely speak. Has anyone else encountered this?

Hi all, I had my gastric bypass just over 3 weeks ago, I’m now on the mushy food stage. I don’t think that I’m overeating and have never pushed myself to a point where I feel sick but I’m really unsure of how much food I should be eating. I’m not overeating I know that but my weight has stalled and I’m wondering if I’m not eating enough. I have a bit of a challenge drinking my full quota but do force myself . I’m not hungry so also have to force myself to eat. Was just wondering as an example how many tablespoons of food should I be eating each meal time? And if anyone has any tips. Any help would be appreciated

I’m almost done with my requirements. I just have 2 more weigh ins, the endoscopy and sleep study. Everything is scheduled except for the sleep study. I seen the pulmonologist today to get the order for the sleep study. He is ordering an at home sleep study instead of in a clinic. Has anyone had the sleep study done at home and it be accurate?

So, I had some abdominal pain on Friday along with feeling a bit sick, and my surgical team said that if it didn't go away, they wanted me to come in for a CT scan of the area to check on the Y-connection. Luckily, the pain went away mostly, and it seemed to be gas, but the rest of the symptoms just seem like cold or flu-like ones instead. Has anyone ever heard of the y-connection being messed up due to rapid weight loss within the first six months? I've lost over 85 lbs. since surgery.

I’m over three months post op and I have absolutely loved my bypass until a few weeks ago when it was time to go back to school. My stomach is making very loud noises during lectures and having 150 students look at me because it’s distracting them is beyond embarrassing for me. I’ve tried everything I can think of. Different foods, eating before lectures, even during. I tried not eating an hour before thinking maybe the noise was my stomach digesting. But no matter what I try I can’t seem to do anything about it and if this doesn’t change I don’t think I can handle being in class. It would suck to switch to online classes. Hoping any of you have tips on what might…

I don’t typically wish the summer away but I sure wish it was October and we could get this show on the road! Lots of pre op appointments coming up but other than that I am just waiting patiently. I have been working on journaling my food and thoughts. Making small changes. Setting small daily goals. I’ve lost 8 lbs since July and would love to drop a few more before 10/15/19 Surgery Date. I’m not dieting per se. I’m just making small changes and the loss of 8 lbs is due to those changes. I have been enjoying reading everyone’s posts and I look forwarding to finding others October people. Thanks for reading.

I started at a size 22/2xl or 3xl; I can fit into a size 16 pants and a large shirt now! the last time I was under 200lbs, I felt like I was starving myself and it made me miserable. The last time I lost this much weight was when I had an eating disorder. This surgery is One of the greatest things to happen to me! For folks feeling discouraged or worried, these things pass. So, I am now 10 months post op RNY Gastric bypass. I have exactly one more pound until I am "normal" BMI! I am so excited! I saw my doctor recently when I was 125 lbs and he told me not to lose any more weight. After much discussion about how I really want to be a normal BMI and it was only 2 more pounds he agreed it was ok to do. I'm sure this last pound is going to be the hardest one to lose! According to my doctor I have lost 93% of my excess wt. I wonder if I can actually make it to the "ideal" wt they gave me, 117 lbs. My doctor said he doesn't expect me to go that low. Hmmmm....sounds like a challenge!

So, Friday, I spent the day at Cedar Point here in NE Ohio with my wife. We got there at about 10 AM, and we ended up leaving at 10:30 PM. In that time, I managed to ride almost every roller coaster that they had in the park. Only one of them was I completely too big for. Sure, some of the safety bars and harnesses were a little on the tighter side, even for their larger riders areas, but six months ago, I wouldn't have been able to ride anything. I had a blast with my wife, and as of today, my BMI is now enough under 40 that it no longer rounds up to 40.
