  1. Started by froufrou,

I am two weeks out from my surgery and I am still in pain. The left side of my stomach is hurting the most all the way along to my hip. When I came around from surgery it felt like my surgeon had ripped out my left ovary... did anyone else feel this way? (only ladies obvs haha). I still have pain in my left hip and my ovary, which my surgeon's office is confused about. I also have this kind of bee sting/burning feeling on my skin around my main incision. I was given pain meds for the first week. I am now being told that it is too far out now to give me any pain meds and I need to go back to my pcp. Thoughts?

Hey all, I'm still in pre-op. Waiting to meet with the Bariatric Psychologist to final clearance. I believe I will meet with my surgeon for the consult after this. Everything else, is in order. As many of you, I'm so excited and nervous, all at the same time. Things couldn't possibly move along fast enough, I just want that surgery date already! (I've prepped all my liquids and pureed foods. I've also been practicing taking all my supplements for the last two and a half weeks.) I'm curious, is anyone else here short like me? (4' 11, to be exact.) If so, please share: How has your journey been? Did you notice the changes to your body early on or much later? How…

So I am only 2.5 weeks post op and incredibly frustrated because the scale is moving soooo slow and not at all since Monday, however I put a sweater on today that I bought in October and it was too tight to wear. Today it is loose so ?‍♀️... guess I just have to trust this process and try not to obsess and stay off the damn scale for a while. Ugh !

Hello 5th Buddies. I had my bypass on the 5th and things have been so surprisingly great. Got discharged immediately the next morning. Getting in the Water and Protein. Doing homemade broths and tolerating them. I have my first play op appointment tomorrow. Not even in pain which I am surprised by that. I have more knee pains than surgery pains from walking lol. Stay pumped everyone. The honeymoon is in full effect and let’s make the most out of it. I am sure they’re tougher days ahead but enjoy the ride.

I had to change to liquid vitamins the chewable one made the taste worse and it was like a thick coating like feeling all of the time. The gas is unbelievable. I was walking in the rain last night to relieve it. I had also taken too many different things to relieve the gas and that made it worse. My night last night was a very long one. I’m afraid to take another sip of Water thinking it will cause pain but I know I have to have liquids in me. Please share any advice

Hello everyone! I had gastric bypass surgery in May of 2015. I developed an opiate addiction afterwards and have been on methadone now for about a year with what feels like little success. I know part of it is environmental, but I am wondering how much of my methadone may not be absorbed by my body? Does anyone have experience with this? Also I feel that in part the methadone has played a role in me gaining almost 60 lbs! I struggle with cravings for sugary, fatty foods and I struggle with getting the weight off. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance!

Friends, Have any of you experienced too much weight-loss? I started at 402 and 18 months later I'm 159. I was 184 just 6 weeks ago and that was perfect for me and my doctors. Has anyone else found themselves unable to stop dropping pounds?

  20. Started by mousecat88,

I've noticed a bunch of people's stats lately and many of them show 100lbs or more down in under a year. (Most have starting weights around 300 or less). Is this typical? YES I AM COMPARING MYSELF TO OTHER PEOPLE. INB4 SOMEONE COMMENTS THAT I SHOULDN'T. lol. I feel like it's an impossible ways away!

RNY on 2/5, went home early on 2/6. Haven’t taken pain meds since 2/6. I have no pain and no nausea. I want to ask if I could be causing an issue. When my surgeon’s office called on Friday to check on me she kept asking if I was gulping water. I’m not taking gulps but I have been taking small sips in a row which probably equals a gulp. I haven’t had any issues from this. I think I have been very fortunate so far. I’m not having any hunger or head hunger yet (I know it will come eventually). Just want to make sure I’m not causing any pouch damage I’m not aware of.

Post-op day 11 Roux en Y for failed Nissen x2 and continued severe reflux. I am having no reflux and no issues with the actual procedure, but headaches I am having. I am making sure to follow the diet and taking in plenty of water and protein. Prior to surgery, I was a newly diagnosed type 2 diabetic and I have fibromyalgia. I take gabapentin liquid (yuk), Lyrica and Cymbalta. They want everything sugar-free, but I am wondering if maybe I am not getting enough sugar or carbs. I have gone from 194 pounds to 182 pounds.

Ok. I know this all takes time, the scale says I'm losing weight, but I'm noticing it in very odd places on my body. I never had "fat" arms or feet, most of my weight issues have been my midsection. Now I'm seeing skinny wrinkled feet and forearms that look like shrinky-dinks. Why can't I lose weight where I NEED to lose it? Anyone else have odd places that have shriveled up? Yes, I'm exercising but my diet is all but non-existent. I have zero interest in any kind of food at all. Initially after surgery I had cravings for this or that, but muscled through and now that I'm allowed to have food, I can't get more than a bite or two of anything. I either throw it bac…

Well today marks the beginning of a new journey. I am heading to the hospital for my surgery. It’s been a great two weeks. Down 20lbs from liquid Pre-op diet and looking forward to shedding this fat suit in the future.

Hi, I have tried to research what happens if your blood sugar doesn't go down after the bypass surgery. I'm off my meds (metformin & glipizide) since the surgery, but I'm 2 weeks out still on clear liquids and still getting readings of 160- 170. I'm not drinking any sweet liquids, not sneaking any solid foods. I simply don't understand what I'm doing wrong. I'm very discouraged because this was 99% of the reason for having this surgery and it's not happening. Everything I've read so far talks about what happens when your blood sugar gets too Low...nada on remaining high. The Dr. says as long as it's not over 200 or under 60 - no worries, don't call. Everyone el…

  34. I'm just curious how having gastric bypass surgery has effected your marriage? I'm concerned that my husband isn't going to be able to handle it. He is so accustomed and content with a lazy, inactive, food/marijuana based lifestyle that he is beginning to resent the healthy choices I am making for myself. I am no longer "okay" with meidocre and only want the best for myself, my future and his as well. We've been married 7 years and have always had issues when it comes to the lifestyle choices he makes. I'm just curious to hear others experiences. Sorry for the rant.

I have a few questions that I have not asked the nutritionist yet. So long term i.e. 12-18 months post bypass can you eat red meat? bread? ice cream? I read somewhere it said never chew gum due to increased air being swallowed but the nutritionist did say it was fine. I know be careful with alcohol and avoid carbonated beverages. I also know you should never have a 3 scoop ice cream sundae but can you have a few bites of pretty much any food on a rare occasion? Also dumping syndrome-- is that more of an issue initially or does it happen years after surgery too?

I'm two years out and have had some problems with intermittent loose stools over the last few months, and I had a Petersen's hernia fixed last summer. I've had explosive watery diarreah now since Fri/Saturday -5 full days and went to the doctor Mon - unable to work, feeling ill, weak some abdo pain. They've taken blood and I did the fun stool sample (tiny spoon) liquid nasty), waiting til Friday for results. But still have a tap in my bum, can't safely fart or go more than a few feet from a toilet - when it's ready there's no holding back... I'm scared, feel ill, cross about getting yet more dude effects. Have lost 9lbs in less than a week and not enjoying weigh…

I’m 21. I had the sleeve in June 2017 and revised to the bypass January 21st 2018. Three days after being sent home I felt amazing. Not in much pain at all. But I’ve been constantly hungry. I had string cheese , peanut butter, yogurt and protein shakes. Nothing makes me feel full. I’m now on stage three and I made 1 scrambled egg with three crackers and was able to eat it all, drink some water and not feel full. What’s wrong with me? I got full when I had the sleeve done and I was on stage 3. I feel like they didn’t do anything. Just went in and looked around then patched me up!!!

  43. I had Gastric bypass surgery on June 13,2018. I have been in the hospital 5times and have EKG, Light put down stomach about others test and all results the doctor says are fine. I am still being nausea and vomiting after 8 weeks.

  44. I'm curious here, even though I've had the RNY since July, I'm a bit of a slow-adopter. Meaning that I haven't "ventured" out much because when I have dumped, well let's be honest, it's no fun. We're all different I know, and there are dozens of ways to calculate carbs, but at the end of the day anything other than fiber carbs is going to make some of us dump. So, while I know that eating a majority of protein and fibrous carbs are best, when one is at the supermarket thinking about a chicken noodle soup, or brown rice, or any of the moderately high carb foods, how much is too much? This is not to try and see how much junk food one can eat, but on the same regard,…

I had the physician assistant tell me there are cases that they have a hard time doing bypass because men usually carry their weight in their stomach and they are usually taller making it difficult to sometimes do the bypass. Is this something to be concerned with as when I spoke to my surgeon she did not mention this
