I am actually not having this surgery for weight loss, though it will be a side effect. I have had a 30-year history of GERD that over time became severe.  Three years ago I had my first Nissen fundoplication and hiatal hernia repair. This went really well for about a year. The GERD returned and my hernia repair failed.  About a year ago the GERD returned again, the hernia repair was successful though with a new mesh. The GERD is extremely bad again and I am unable to sleep lying down and it even happens when standing up now too, again. My only option is a gastric bypass. It is sort of a "two strikes" and you have to go this route. I am pretty scared but very miserable. I just want to be able to sleep without throwing up in my mouth or waking up from the severe burning. I want to be able to bend over without the fear of throwing up.  I am also now diabetic and have made a lot of changes in my diet already.
