Nervous about insurance approval

I had my pre-op appointment (for gastric bypass) at the hospital yesterday, and I have checked all the boxes to the satisfaction of my surgeon. They will now submit it to my insurance for pre-approval before setting a surgery date, and I'm quite anxious about that step. Since I'm sort of marginal in terms of BMI, I'm worried that the insurance will turn me down (although "fortunately" i also have high BP, sleep apnea and I'm pre-diabetic). Has anyone been turned down by the insurance the first time? If so, how did you resolve it? Has your doctor intervened and talked to the insurance company directly? (I have really good health insurance with Aetna.)

  • Thanks for the reassurance, Marine and Jen. You are right--better to focus on real problems than things that might never happen.

Insurance switched 1-1, Dr's office submitted 1-2, I was approved the morning of 1-4.

Don't sweat it.
