Hey everyone! I have had a rough journey with my band so far! I got banded 10/21/14 then got a port infection (which hurt like hell by the way!) I was on antibiotics for 4 weeks and had to push gross stuff out of the incision EW! I still haven't had a fill. I have gone from 350 to 328lbs but now I am at a stand still. I have zero restrictions and pretty much able to eat anything although I try to pay attention. Last night I think I ate a bit too much but no nausea but then I got this strange pain in my lower abdomen, it feels like I've done a bunch on sit ups. I've taken gas x but it hasn't gone away. It is uncomfortable and is worse when I stand up a little better when …

  5. I'm 38, 5'7" starting weight was 253. I weighed myself this morning (post op 6 days) and I'm at 248. I've struggled for years, like all of us to lose weight. I went through the approval and preop process 8 years ago but was rejected for being 9lbs too light. I couldn't bring myself to gain 9 pounds so I quit. After another 8 years of my weight going up and down and then finally gaining 30 pounds in a year I decided I'd had enough. I gained the additional weight I knew I needed just to pass (40 BMI) and started the process again. I was still really nervous; not sure if such a permanent change was a good idea. Now, with all this pain I'm still not sure I made the right deci…

  10. My name is Aimee & Im 37 years old. I've gained about 60 pounds in the last year and a half. I'm 5 feet tall and I weigh 229 pounds. *****This is a major setback in my life because when I was 26 I weighed 240 pounds. I decided I didn't want to be overweight anymore and I took steps on my own to lose my weight - I'm not sure where I found the willpower but I was able to lose the weight by dieting alone basically changing all of my eating habits and forming a new lifestyle. I started working out and incorporating exercise & was able to lose more .... After being heavy from age 12 till 28 I was extremely proud of myself. I had finally done the impossible. I ca…

Yes, leave it to me. I loose 11 lbs on the pre surgery diet. Go in the hospital weighing 301.2 and come home and the next morning I weigh 304.0 - how in the world is that humanly possible. Talk about making someone feel down ????

I made the decision to have my sleeve when my diabetes was severely effecting my kidneys. I of course wanted to lose weight but that was the determining factor for me. I am very lucky to be a nurse who works on a surgical floor. One of which is a wonderful bariatric surgeon. I went through the process pretty quickly. My starting weight was 243 and day of surgery I was at 230. This is my 3rd week post op and I am down to 206. I feel great in all but I am still having trouble eating the recommended protein and maintaining my water intake. I feel full very fast. I can drink a protein shake which helps. I am looking forward to seeing more weight come off! Kim Rn1999

Now I am feeling better about my situation I wanted to tell my story in the hope that it will help other people. Like most others I have a long history of struggling with my weight and when I found out about the sleeve I thought I had found the solution. I went through a company called Weight Loss Forever in Canada and had my sleeve in Tijuana with Dr Pompa. I was impressed with the doctors and the facility and was well taken care of. I had hardly any pain and was able to drink without many of the problems I read about on this forum. When I got home I followed the plan strictly and was losing weight. Still in a good amount of pain/discomfort but I'm keeping active as well as resting when I can. I just returned from TJ where I had VSG surgery with Dr. Elias Ortiz on December 21st, 2014. I'll make post after this about the details of my surgery, but first, here's a little background: Both my brother and I have been overweight all our lives. He was always big, even when he was a baby, but I didn't start to blow up until I was about 4 years old. Regardless, poor eating choices coupled with a lazy lifestyle has led me down a path where I am now in my 30's and bigger than ever. My weight is a little over 310 and I'm abou…

I'm finally feeling less restriction and I have to be a bit more conscious of what I eat. I'm able to eat less food but learned that I still definitely need to watch the carbs, they are the devil! Life is so much better. The holidays were just great. I didn't worry about what to wear and how it felt. Instead of celebrating with food, I am learning to celebrate with fellowship -- really learning to enjoy people! I'm still getting used to all the attention I'm getting but it's way better than the attention I used to get. "Y…

Hello bariatric pals! I had my sleeve done Monday morning at 11:30. I arrived at the hospital 2 hours early and they immediately took me back to prep. We had to wait a while for the liquids to flow through me so they could get a urine test to endure I wasn't preggo. Since I hadn't had any liquids it took a while. The dehydration also made it difficult to find a vein for my 2nd IV. It took them 4 tries, and it was pretty painful! After that, my surgeon came to answer final questions before I was given meds. I barely remember being wheeled into a large sterile room with lots of people getting things ready. I then fell asleep. I woke up in pain around 1 1/2 later. I remember…

Things have been hard, but I am happier with who I am now so it seems like life is somehow easier. My Story: I was 25 and 260 pounds, I had 3 small children (9 months, 2yrs, and 4yrs old) and I was crazy unhappy. I went to an information session and everything seemed to fall into place from there. I did my 6 months of supervised diet by a Doctor, saw a psychologist, met with the nutritionist and went through many emotions in the process. Then surgery happened. I was sure I made the worse mist…

The rest of my family is inquiring how I'm losing my weight! I have told them high protein low carb and smaller portions! But im starting to feel like I should just tell the truth... Now my question is, have any of you come clean after fibbing about it, and how was the reaction? I'm worried that they will be mad at me for not being truthful! Some insight would be great!! Merry Christmas!!

I had heart trouble, high blood pressure, pain in my joints, a substantial inoperable back injury with nerve damage, border line diabetes, and a whole list of other ailments. I had surgery on November 19. Thus far I've lost 22lbs, but I'm not able to eat much. I think I'm eating less than I should but it's all I can handle. I've begun a walking regime but didn't walk today due to the weather. I want to start doing more exercise for the abs and thighs so I'm looking for something I can do at home for beginners. I'm excited but when I step on the scale and see a very small weight increase I get nervous. I want the weight off so bad and I have little patience but I was assured I'm losing at an acceptable rate.

I got back to the my doc on Dec 30th for my next check up. I feel so good, and am not struggling with my eating. I am doing two shakes a day and one small meal (what my doc wanted me to do) and because the weight is coming off it makes it much easier to stay on track. I am trying to work the hell out of this sleeve as much as I can in the early months. Just wanted to share, this site has been so helpful I hope that I can be helpful to all you out there just starting your journey!!

I am new here. My surgery is scheduled for 12/29/14 in Houston, TX. I am on my 2nd full day of my preop liquid diet (and SO hungry! LoL) My surgeon is Dr. Garth Davis at The Davis Clinic. I am 40 years old and have struggled with my weight most of my life, especially since college. My "freshman 15" was more like 100 :-( After that I stayed fairly stable until seven years ago when I sustained a spinal injury that affects my mobility. Since I have trouble walking, I have gained another 50 lbs, but I will not be gaining any more! I am a teeny bit scared but mostly excited and thankful to be on my way to better health!
