Gaining weight after surgery- really?

Yes, leave it to me. I loose 11 lbs on the pre surgery diet. Go in the hospital weighing 301.2 and come home and the next morning I weigh 304.0 - how in the world is that humanly possible. Talk about making someone feel down ????

Not unusual to gain up to 10 pounds since they pump you full of IV fluids. It will be gone soon enough.

I gained 6 pounds right after surgery. By weeks end I was down 10. Its fluid retention, etc. Not uncommon.

How are you now? ( I see your original post was several months ago)

@@tomi71 I just posted this. My surgery date was Dec 22. Imagine the surprise when my fiancé had told me my weight when they measured in the hospital bed, I thought he was kidding. Low and behold I had gained when I checked when I got home and then thought I was dreaming so checked again this morning. I was so disappointed.

I gained 8 pounds in the hospital, but it got peed off in a few days.

So, on the day of surgery they weighed me in at 226 lbs. Went home the next day at 238lbs. Took me 9 days to lose it. Went to the doctor on the 11th day and weighed in at 222 lbs. I was told to consume 1ozs of clear liquids every 15mins. I had to do that until I saw her on day 11. My surgeon had the nerve to be visibly disappointed in my numbers. Really?! SMH still.

Hang in there. Don't get discouraged. I am routing for you!

Definitely normal!! I was 243 after the liquid diet when I went for surgery on December 15th. 248 when I came home the 17th. Back down after and at 235 on the 23rd. Wouldn't worry about for sure:) goodluck with your recovery!

Thank you everyone! Thought I was doing something majorly wrong when I seen that. Didn't know how this could possibly happen but I am encouraged by all the posts!

Yeah I came out of the hospital 306. Went in 294. Fun times with fluid retention. But I literally lost 7 lbs of that water overnight.

Don't worry. That's normal. Its from the iv fluids.

My nurse told me to to weight myself for att least a week becacuse I would be up. hey did not even weigh me before I left to surgury center. I did not wait a week however but I was not frustrated when I did weigh myself because of the warning by the nurse. I tool me 7 days to show a loss.
