Hi everyone. I'm Eli and in two weeks I am going in for the gastric sleeve surgery and I'm a bit anxious, excited, nervous, hopeful, dubious and ready for the life changes ahead. I'm 40 and I've been overweight since the age of ten. Of course back then it was an extra 10lbs, an extra 30lbs in high school, 60lbs in college and since then I've worked myself up to 308lbs, or about 130+ lbs overweight. I'm trying to work on myself from all angles to become a better me. Two years ago I quit smoking, I started cycling and exercising on a regular basis. I just applied to go back to school and get a degree in enology (wine sciences) to start a new career that I actually w…

Guys, i'm going insane. Thing is, my surgery is set for January 6th, not only am I starving but I have to admit I am excited as can be. Yesterday I went in for my pre-surgical testing and thank the heavens that everything came out perfect, or so I thought. Later in the afternoon, I got a phone call saying, "we found something in your urine, it looks like an infection." Like are you kidding me? Ive had infections down there before and I havent had any symptoms or else I would of gotten it taken care of a while ago instead of now. Supposedly, this could make my surgery be postponed. Like are you serious, she said that there is also a chance that it might still be set as…

Hello I am new to the group. I recently had the sleeve done in dec 23. I have lost 15lbs but I'm feeling depressed. I'm not sleeping. I'm not sure if it's because of my anxiety or just depressed. The pain has been bad but now it's more the soreness and crazy eating patterns. I'm not hungry until afternoon. And I'm concerned I'm not balancing the diet the way I should. Any ideas?

I'm 3 days post op and I am slightly antsy! I am hoping this decision is going to be well worth it. My husband isn't as supportive as many others. He actually brought home 24 cupcakes and a gallon of ice cream when I asked him to get me sugar free Popsicle's. Friends say he's just scared but I honestly think he's selfish and manipulative though I'm not hungry at all I just couldn't fathom why he'd do that. Is there anyone else going through this similar situation with a loved one?

Ok. So far I've been reading about ppl going on a two week liquid diet prior to their surgery date as a requirement. Now is this for everybody? Or is this just for this who have some trouble with their liver? I live in Indiana and I go to st. Vincent bariatric center in Carmel. I've never heard of that. Never gOt those instructions. Never even heard of it even at my support groups. Now my surgery is on Tuesday January 13. Only two days away. And I have a specific diet to follow on Monday. I had to lose at least 30lbs in order to be considered for surgery which I've done. So hearing about these two week liquid diets has me freaked out. I feel a bit clueless cause they nev…

So I am 36 years old and I have tussled around the idea of surgery for about 10 years. I really only get serious about it a couple of years ago. Finally last year I put it into motion and it has been a LONG LONG LONG journey with a lot of tears and frustrations. BUT, I have a surgery date now! I am having surgery February 25! I am so excited. I currently weigh around 270 and my goal is 165. I was 291 when the journey began. I start my preop diet February 7 and I am a little nervous. But I can't wait to share more and more of my journey as it comes!

Hi guys. Guess I'll start by introducing myself. I'm a norwegian male, 39 years old, married, father of two kids, and are working as a Engineering manager in the oil industry here on the west coast of Norway. I'm one and a half week away from undergoing gastric bypass, and are in the final pre op diet. So far I have lost 13 kg since i started the diet, and needed to loose 7,5 kg so are in good shape. So how did I end up here?. I have always been heavy set, and spent my teens and early 20 playing ice hockey, power lifting and martial art. I went to serve in the Norwegian army, and served for three years, before I went to college studying engineering. I was used to eat …

Monday makes 6 weeks. While I wish I could say i have lost a ton of lbs so far but only 24. Which is fine. I know things will keep moving along as long as I do my part. The great news is if was able to resume my position in my volunteer fire department. Meaning my dr completely cleared me. I've been back to my regular job for a while. But I am a licensed emt for my local fire department. And it's very physical work. I started back on 1/1 and have been on a few calls. My strength is some what low but I feel much more nimble in my ambulance. I am so glad to be back out there. And feels good having more breathing room in my uniform. Love to hear how others are feeling

I'm 2 weeks post op. I'm still eating puréed foods. I have to get back to the crazy routine of taking kids to school and running errands at least until I go to work. What can I eat outside. I had my protein shake but I was told I can't eat oatmeal. Should I buy some babyfood until I can get some mash potatoes? Didn't think this through

Can we just put it out there and point out that gas really hurts after surgery? I read about dairy intolerance following surgery but the menu my doc put me on has milk and yogurt. Oh My Goodness I thought I might die. I'm going to look into dairy alternatives but yogurt and cheeses are good sources of protein (I'm 4 day post op, no meats yet - nothing thicker than yogurt right now). Any thoughts? Suggestions? Gas-x strips? Worth it? I'm trying to add protein powder into things but the bubbles from protein drinks hurt too.

Tomorrow is the big day. 16 hours away!! Only my immediate family and my best friend know about this. I'm feeling nervous. A bit overwhelmed by the bad what if's. My doctor is at Riverside Hospital in Columbus, OH. His name is Dr. Sonnanstine. He seems like a great surgeon. His staff just loves him. I can tell it's not fake. Biggest fear with surgery is death, next to that I'd say diminished quality of life. I have 3 daughter's who mean the world to me. I'm doing this not just for me. It's for my family too. With high bp, dislocated disc and knee pain, I feel this is my last resort after many unsuccessful attempts to lose weight, including being put on weight watchers at …

That was a phrase I didn't expect to say. My 20 something daughter and I were doing a dolphin swim. A wetsuit is recommended since the Water can be chilly. I'm down 60 pounds since surgery so I figured-go for it. Try it. The worse is you will look like Shamu and it won't fit. The attendant handed me a size 16. I giggled inside at the thought someone thought I was a 16. I asked for an 18 'cause I know you work up a sweat getting the thing on. Also, 18 is the biggest they stock. I went into the dressing room, slipped on my suit and then pulled up the wetsuit. Slowly over the torso, then a tug and my arms were in. Ah, the zipper.... I walked out and my size…

My name is Angie (from Michigan) and I'm so excited to be starting my journey toward my new healthy life. I'm hoping I'm prepared enough. I've seen my primary doctor and have her approval, my food logs, a letter of reference from my personal trainer, a timeline of weightloss attempts from age 7-present, a list of supplements I've tried and references with contact info. I know it sounds like a lot but I have no idea what to anticipate with the insurance. I have blue care network. Anyone have any idea as to what to expect? I'm so ready for this long journey:)

My name is Kristen. I am a 33 year old single mom in KS. I just had the gastric sleeve done on 1-5-15. They injured my spleen while in there so my recovery has been rough. I am lucky that my insurance covers the surgery and I have options in my area. A lot of people don't have insurance coverage and they have to drive far away just to find a surgeon. With that said, today is day three and I am pretty miserable.

Hello. For years I have considered weight loss surgery but finally started the process in July of 2013. My surgeon is Dr. Robert Quinlin at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. My surgery is Monday, January 13, 2014. Quinlin and his team have been phenomenal so far. My highest weight was 334lbs in July. I have since lost 14lbs and am at 320lbs. I am 5'6" and 41yrs old. I have been big most of my life but that never kept me from participating in life nor were there any limitations until the past few years. When I weighed 270 five years ago, I began to realize the consequence of aging and carrying the weight and gained 60 MORE pounds. This last 60lbs has basical…

Well i was printed to share my story, so here goes.. I'm 26, Mexican-Iranian... That's important because that means that I was raised on rice and corn tortillas. I'm female btw. Both of my parents work two or three jobs, so I was also raised on costco and walmart a frozen meals, like lasagna and chicken and rice... My sister has a disability which mean the I spend the better part of my early childhood in the waiting room of various doctors... But that not to being said to make you feel sorry, rather so you know that I again was subject to cafeteria food, Jello from the nurses and McDon…

Yesterday I had my one year leaak test to make sure Miss Tummy is working right. The barium swallow follow-through was supposed to take two hours, but that is when you can drink 12 ounces of the stuff like old times. Because I could only sip an ounce every ten minutes or so, it took almost all day. Oh well. for the first time I got to see the complete path my food goes through. My sleeve really is a tube, like a garden hose. I am a visual learner, so this was helpful for me to see. Now I really understand why I fill up on so little food, and how stacking in the esophagus happens if you overeat. It was fascinating to see, and all was good - no leaks and no proble…

My experience..... My consult appointment was yesterday. The whole staff was very friendly. I really like my Doc. My appointment didn't really go like I thought it would. I did the whole check in height weight. Found out I am 5.1/2 ft. but I actually think I'm 5ft. my hair kind of got in the way, (updo, I know stupid). I met with the nurse, we went over a couple things, the doctor came in, he asked me a lot of questions that are normally on your new patient questionnaire which I thought was weird.. Like my nationality, am I mixed, married... and so on. We didn't talk about my past weight loss attempts. What I've been doing to lose weight. Or why I gained weight ov…

Update on progress (3 weeks post-op): I have lost 22 pounds since my pre-op. My surgeon says I am doing so well that he advanced my diet a week early! I can now eat fruits and veggies (except for grapes, raisins, and iceberg lettuce), but I have to wait a few weeks for citrus fruits. I can eat chicken, turkey, shrimp, crab, and fish. No red meat or pork for at least two months. Dinner tonight? Chicken Chop Suey!

Hey everyone. I've been mostly a lurker with some posts here and there. Today I had my final nutrition class (my center requires two full classes) and six months of diet docs. I have two more months to go. Today made it so real, it's like--unbelievable. It's scary. I've been super attentive/borderline obsessive with the reading and the lurking here and the YouTube-ing. And none of it made it feel as real as today. I'm terrified! I've had many food funerals and I have to really beat the poundage I gained over Christmas in order to get below my weight from last month. It's only 5 pounds but it's still making me really work. (And before I get the whole spiel about ov…

My name is Maya or blackbean on here. I had Roux-en-Y gastric bypass 7 weeks ago at Abbott Northwestern hospital. Dr. Daniel Leslie was my surgeon. My weight before the 2 day bowel prep and clear liquid diet was 279, Surgery Weight was 269, current weight is 229. I'm finding life after surgery to be a rough road to get used to. But I keep telling myself things will be much better by a year out. The picture is from about a week ago. attachment=50656:ImageUploadedByBariatricPal1420577691.054452.jpg]

And has only been five months and I have never felt so good. In the beginning it was very tough and I went through a little regret but I can't tell you how happy I am and how happy I am with my results. I am posting a picture down below of the last few months. If you are thinking about doing the procedure and you were unsure let me tell you how it has totally changed my life for the better!
