  1. I am 7 weeks post op. I was going thru my pictures looking for a certain picture for a Christmas present. Well I came across a picture of me and my daughter from a baby shower about a month before my surgery. And I was comparing it to a recent pic on my phone I took. I was amazed at the difference!! I hope they come across this is the first time I am adding two pics at once.

Hello, I'm Ashly. I'm not really sure how to start my story without sounding awkward or having a ton of run on sentences. I have struggled with my weight loss since the age of 12. I constantly got picked on by either family members, people at school and even teachers. My self confidence pretty much got shot and I have had a low sense of self esteem since. In May of 2013 I became pregnant with my first child and gave birth in December to my gorgeous daughter Annabel Willow Rose Lee. My top pregnancy weight was around 265 (give or take a few pounds). I lost some of it but at a Doctors visit in August I noticed my weight on the scale. A whopping 287 pounds (I currently as of…

I've been over weight since the age of 5. I was a chubby kid always and started dieting at the age of 8 as per my pediatrician and nutritionist, so you can imagine how hard that might of been for an 8 year old. My mom tried her best but of course i would sneek food any chance i had. After a while my mom stopped the diet and again no restrictions. I was taught that food was reward especially unhealthy fast food. Any time i did something well that was my reward. As a teenager i developed poor eating habits never eating breakfast and buying only junk as lunch at school (but school really only sold junk) as i became independent in my late teens early twenties these habits jus…

I'm 8 months post op! I feel great today!! I've had so many struggles and haven't lost as much weight as I probably should have.. I got my band April 11th 2014.. My port flipped and I had to have it flipped back on June 30th 2014. Then just a few weeks ago. (December 2nd) I had hernia surgery! Everything seemed to be pulling me down!! I could go to the gym in those times after the surgeries. Having to wait 2-4 weeks before being able to work out again. I was so frustrated. I remember crying cause I just felt like "when will this give so I can loss they weight!" But I'm doing good now and will be going back to the gym after New Years! I'm happy to say I went from 317lbs …

Hello, I am 4 days post op. Each day is better than the previous. But today my large incision on top right has been more sore. I also have been feeling dizzy and very weak. I have been drinking Water (which is difficult to drink, i don't know why) chicken broth, green tea no sugar, skim milk, and coconut water. I feel what have I got myself into. I resent my children eating around me and going out to eat. There are times during the day I wish I would be eating something but I do not. I need to work past those feelings.

  9. For the first time ever I can not over indulge at Christmas ( without being sick) and for the first time in a long long time calories are not on my mind ... I can have a little bit over everything and not over eat , if I over eat I throw up it's that's simple .. And over eating for me is is 2/3 of a sass age instead of 1/2 . My thoughts go out to anyone out there who is pre surgery on their post op diet and won't be able to enjoy the food this year ... Look at it like this , this is the only time in your life you will need to miss Christmas food , once in your whole life. Not such a big deal rite :-) Anyways I am a day ahead of most of you because I am from New Zealan…

I was supposed to have it in April but the place I was going to Didnt out me on the required six month program so I started over with another dr. Finished my six month program and now I'm scheduled. I'm very nervous and having second thoughts. I think it's mainly because I'm being put under a lot of pressure by my dad and other family members. Ever day I hear you don't need surgery just eat less and exercise. Work with a nutriionist. My dad keeps telling me this is permanent and when I'm 80 It could have negative effects. So we'll see what happens for now I'…

For how long were you prescribed clot preventing injections. My surgeon prescribed for 2 weeks, though he himself says that it differs, some surgeons dont prescribe at all, some for 3 days, others 10-14 days. He did tell me I can reduce to 5-7 days if I am walking regularly and able to drink well, which today I feel I am.

  13. I got approved for surgery date is 12/22/14....I have an overflow of emotions... I've been morbidly obese for my entire adult life. Just praying I make it through surgery ALIVE, anywho.. I have my pre op appt tomorrow and have no idea what to ask, what are things you'd wished you'd known prior to surgery? I'm sooooo excited!!

I've reached my 2-week mark post-op and have lost 20 pounds so far. I'm finding it hard to eat, or rather, it's hard to find the desire to eat. On the other hand, I am OBSESSING over this imaginary tall glass of ice cold Water that I am only able to DREAM of guzzling down! I'm drinking as much as I can manage in a days time, but am dry-mouthed and craving more! I'm also still very sore, but only in the area they took my stomach out. Over the past couple if days, I feel I've regressed. I'm back on pain medication (I try only to use at bedtime) and guarding my sore spot. I realize it's only been two weeks after an abdominal surgery and I've been utilizing all this energy…

When I first started researching this process, it felt like it would take forever. Today is my final weigh-in and it feels like the last few months flew! I expect to get a surgery date today and I'm incredibly excited! I upgraded my insurance starting Jan 1 so I'm *slightly* concerned that will somehow delay me, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it! I have a few last-visit questions for the surgeon, but does anyone have any "I wish I asked that" questions for your last visit with the surgeon?

Hello all, I'm looking forward to learning tips and tricks to surviving this liquid diet. I started a week early just in case I might run into problems. I don't go into surgery until December 30th but I want to play it safe and shrink my liver. This liquid diet is leaving me pretty irritated and hungry. This is my second day and I'm going stir crazy. I figured if I can do this until my surgery I can make it the rest of the way. Anyone else feel like starting the liver shrinking diet is the hardest?

I've joined several pages on Facebook and have already deleted many! I've seen so many giving advice on how to cheat or what you can get away with. I so want to do this the right way and change the behaviors that got me here in the first place! I'm 2 months out and very committed. I want a safe place to talk about things that come up! In all the consultations and prepping for surgery nobody had really addressed the issues with my head. I started on the day of surgery at 229, within 3 weeks I was down to 179 severely dehydrated and has bleeding ulcers. Of course as soon as I got some fluids, the weight cam back. I thought there was no way to get over the emotional toll of those 3 weeks. I was depressed, sick, and had a world of regret. This decision was about to be the end of me. I can't wait to eat some yogurt or juice or anything other than shakes and jello/pudding. I've been having a lot of last minute doubts this weekend but I'm confident that I'm making the right move. My BMI is 54, and my insurance requires a co morbidity.... However, I don't have one of the major ones.... Insurance also denied a sleep study because I don't meet all of the criteria. Somewhat frustrated and unsure if insurance will approve surgery. In the meantime I have lost 15 lbs since I saw the surgeon.

Was just told that I would most likely have to wait for a year to finally get my hernia fixed, after my sleeve surgery. The frustrating part is that if I didn't have the hernia, I would not need the sleeve. Anybody care to chime in with their thoughts on this?
