Hi I am 4 months out. I had the RNY. I do not regret it most days but today I am. I did fine on liquids but ended up with a stricture, a huge ulcer that covered most of my pouch. I am unable to keep anything down. I had iv fluids for awhile but the Ivs kept blowing my veins. So they put in a PICC Line in first one clogged second one had a allergic reaction to the tape they used. Third one I had three sets of sutures rip out of my skin and now I have a ng tube going through my nose down my throat all the way to my small intestine. That is how I get my nutrition. Drinking and eating hurt and I have not been able to take my vitamins so my hair is starting to fall out in clum…

I am currently 12.5 weeks post op and I am still looking for a better way to track my Protein and meals. Do you use an app to track your information? I have a 20 ounce Water bottle that I keep rubber bands around and every time I fill it up I move a rubber band. knowing that that needs to be at least three times a day it keeps me on track. I am a mobile worker that spends a lot of time in my car so lunch meals are sometimes difficult for me. Sometimes I have access to a microwave and sometimes I do not. I have had days where I brought food with me but didn't end up eating because I had nowhere to heat up my food, which I know is not good. does anyone else strug…

Hello everyone. I have been dieting for almost 6 months now. My insurance said I had to have a dietitian for 6 months January 1st I changed insurance companies and now they say only 4 months I'm going to my last dietitian appointment and then everything gets submitted to the insurance company. My case manager at the hospital said I should have my surgery by the end of February. I am 44 years old and have realized the weight just does not come off like it used to. I have struggled with my demons forever and now it is time to take care of them and push them away forever. My highest weight I have ever been which was when I started this journey six months ago was 492 I …

I saw my NUT and surgeon today. First I saw the NUT then the surgeon. My NUT took down my information about the past 3 months, etc., chit-chatted with me about hair loss, vitamins, eating plant-based foods and healthy proteins, yadayadayada. Then she weighed me on the magic scale and congratulated me on being in onderland. But even better, we came up with a goal weight! My fat-free body weight is 109lbs and so based on that composition, she said 140-145 would be very appropriate especially if I continue to do strength training and muscle building exercises. I should have a very nice frame. Of course, I need to also stay on the cardio to build my lung capacity and stre…

Hi, I am new to Bariatric Pal, I am currently in the pre-op stage. My insurance requires that I undergo six months of medically supervised weight loss appointments with my primary care before the surgery can be scheduled. I have attended three, three more to go. My final test is this Friday, an endoscopy, and it looks like my surgery will be around the end of April, beginning of May. I have been overweight for about 17 years, it ballooned after my last child was born. I have high blood pressure, am pre-diabetic, and have had two back surgeries. I want to live a long, comfortable life and be there for my grandchildren when that time comes along. I am tired of bein…

So here I am finally on the other side. I am 3 days out from surgery and feeling good. A little sore but he'll I did just have surgery. The worst part has been the gas pain which I was warned about. I don't get it, why does the gas pain sit in your left shoulder? It is so bizarre. Liquids are going down well and I have no nausea at all. This still feels so surreal and I can't believe I have been given this opportunity to change my life. I am already down 20lb and it's amazing how much lighter I feel. I can even fit in the jeans that made me hit my breaking point because I was busting out of them. Good luck to everyone who is starting their journey and thank you to the one…

Hello, new to site, have my 1st appt. with the surgeon, nutritionist, financial dept, etc., next week. Question, I'm on Medicare, what are requirements & out of pocket? Also, after initial visit how long until you get date for surgery? I have been struggling with weight for years, my primary physician is for the surgery, I've gone to a nutritionist for 6 months and lost about 15#, then went thru Physicians Weight loss for 6 months lost 34# and have gained all but 2# back. I have several medical conditions that should get better with the surgery, arthritis in every major joint, scoliosis of lower back, high cholesterol , high blood pressure, and acid reflux. I hav…

The day is finally here...1/15/15. I never thought I could survive a 2 week liquid diet. The only day that was hard was day 1. I have lost almost 25 pounds pre-op but I suppose that's what happens when you only drink 600 calories a day. I can't believe that I'm not nervous about this life-changing decision but I'm not. The only thing I'm really missing is chewing...I just want to chew something.

I see my surgeon on Friday, Jan. 16th. We are going to plan my date for Sleeve surgery. I had the Lap Band and it did not work for me. Too much discomfort from the port and my body does not like foreign objects in it. I had a lot of scar tissue wrapped around the band and its components. I have put on 25 lbs since its removal on July 29th. I am looking forward to this as I am ready for a change. I am newly married and my husband is a great support. This change will help out everyone in my family. I want more energy as I love to do so many different things and just too darn tired after work. I also sit in an office all day too! Everyone in my family is over weig…

Hello everyone! I'm new on here! My surgery date was 11/10/14. HW 344 SW 310 CW 265. I had the RNY done. I'm having trouble getting in my water and protein but am trying the best I can. I have an exercise routine that I stick to 4-5 days a week now. My goal is to run a 5k by my 1 year! I was wondering if anyone else has had similar goals and if they hit them? Thanks!

I was sleeved on Dec 4th. My starting weight was 334. I am currently at 296 and holding. I'm at my first stand still and it's driving me crazy. The weight is coming off from my legs and face but not my hips. This is causing my pants to not change at all in fit. It frustrates me that I can't wear jeans still. I am slightly bigger than a 28 and am just anxious to get down to a decent fitting 26 so I can get back in cute jeans!!! Of course the idea of an end result of non plus size clothes is even better. Does anyone else have a hard time imagining the surgery working to slim you so much? I've never been thin. I guess in my head it was decided years ago I Never would be and …

I am about 3 months from surgery date. Very excited but had my psyc eval and got one who "specializes" in weight loss. Now she wants me to be reeval. In 2 months and attend her sessions. My nutritionist takes care of that. So hopefully they will duke that out for me. Very discouraging. I have to quit smoking and am ok with that. Sorta... I, like most, have a stressful life and struggle with this. Keeping forward movement on this process and love reading your stories. Very motivating.

I am so excited to read of everyone's success, but feel like pouring my story out for some advice. I was banded in June 14 and since have lost about 15lbs. I've struggled since the op and really regret ever having it done. Let me explain... My band is very very finicky. My first full I could only take .5ml as liquids couldn't pass and I actually started bleeding. I have now had about 6 tiny fills, and had about 3 Unfills due to my band being so bloody awkward. It swells sometimes for no reason at all. I had ice Water once...it closed up and I couldn't swallow my own spit I know the band is meant to help you feel full, but I've never had that. I never feel satisfie…

Surgery was Dec. 16, 2014. I am 20 pounds down:) I have been given the 'green light' to eat soft foods. MAN! I never knew a scrambled egg could taste so good ! ! I still drink my Protein shake for lunch. And I try my best to make sure my protein is the first thing I eat. BUT WOW! 5 days post surgery....I never knew a pickle could look so delicious! But I refrained, and maintained. What I find most perplexing is getting the amount of Water in and protein. I can only hold about 3 oz. and I'm NOT trying to stretch it out !! But I keep on keeping on. My b/p has been within normal limits since I had the surgery WITHOUT MEDICATION:) as well as my cholesterol. My knee pai…

I am four weeks post op and feeling miserable. Lost 20kg from 2 week pre-op diet and first two weeks and then nothing. Then this week up 1 kg which was devastating as I am eating so little. I am on soft foods but got terribly down from the liquid/purée stage (perhaps because of xmas). Still slow, aches and pains, struggle with Water and Vitamins. No vomiting but get pains on my sides. Can only sleep on my back which is frustrating. I wish I found this forum earlier ????

I am only hours away my surgery date. I'm a bit hungry because I'm so nervous that I've been avoiding food since breakfast. I had toast with jam and peanut butter and apple juice for breakfast it was a late breakfast so I was okay with not eating lunch. Around 5 p.m. I was literally holding my stomach from hunger pain. so I had a yogurt I felt ok after that but I decided that it was almost dinner time so I filled 2 bottles with a little Apple juice with lots of ice cubes and water. And I've been sipping on that. I'm hungry but this is the most self control I've ever experienced. I'm just thankful our kitchen is downstairs. I'm just hours away from my dream come true. I'll…

I'm soooo excited! It's been 4 days since my surgery and I've already lost 16lbs!!! I've been walking a bunch but am a little hesitant about what other exercises I should do so early post op. I don't want to tear/injure anything but I also don't want a whole lot of loose skin as I realize I'm losing quite rapidly and want to get the jump on things. Any suggestions?

My name us Lori. I am 5'3" - SW 262lbs. I am two months out from surgery and have lost approximately 38 lbs pounds. I weigh in tomorrow at my doctor's office on the official scale. I am happy about my loss but see others who have list 50-60 lbs in the same time frame. I am concerned as to why I'm losing weight so slowly. I lost several inches but have not truly dropped a whole dress size yet. The pounds still seem to trickle off me and not literally fall off like other people. Help! Has anyone else experienced this? Frozen in MN.

My name is Christina and I'm a 38 year old mother of 3 boys and 2 foreign exchange student sons. I topped off at 293 back in May of 2014 and I swore I would never hit 300. That was it, time to do what needed to be done to start my journey! I was required to do 6 months of doctor documented diet and exercise (like I had never tried that before :-/). I went to regular appointments, seen all the seminars I could stand, seen the psychiatrist like I was supposed to, went to the nutritionists, then had my doctor get sued by another patient the month before my surgery and get ousted from the hospital where I was supposed to have surgery! Blessing in disguise because apparently t…

Well as my title says I am 11 weeks post op today and I am down 60.2 lbs!!!! I am so excited and happy with my progress I could just scream it from the roof tops!! This surgery was not something I wanted to do, it was recommended to me by a doctor I was seeing to repair my ventral hernia. So we started looking into it. I was so afraid of the surgery, the recovery, the way I would have to eat, etc. I don't think there was one part that didn't scare me. I am glad that I had to do a 6 month supervised diet because it gave me time to wrap my head around all the changes and to make sure I thought I could do it. Well I did it and I am doing it. Nothing went …

Just got Gastric Sleeve Surgery on the 12/15/14 and about 4 days post-op I began to notice my thighs were numb. I could scratch my leg and not feel the actual scratching feeling on my leg, only felt pressure that something was touching it. Then during my night of sleep I had a shooting pain in my leg, cramping and it was very sharp, painful. I would have about 2 of these episodes during sleep, then I would wake up and walk for a while and massage my theighs to relieve pain. The shooting pains during night have seemed to stop, but my legs still have a slight tingle/numb feeling. Wondering if anyone has had any issues like this either! Any comments/recommendations are wel…

I just had the upper thing done about a week ago. Doc said when he gets the results he will send it to insurance for acceptance. If or when they accept it that is when my gastric bypass surgery will be scheduled. I am 5'5 at 270lbs and 33 years old. I am so excited to start my new life as I have been overweight since I was 15ish. My weight has only gotten worse as the years go by. Anyways....I'm excited for the procedure but nervous I will mess it up. I'm a full time single mom of 2 young kids(youngest with adhd and odd). I just wish their was people close to me in somewhat same position as I am just to have that support. I don't have that family support or any support f…

Well where to start...For the last couple of years I have been researching the gastric bypass surgery. I have been over weight for as long as I can remember. The problem I had been facing is not having insurance to cover the surgery. So after waiting which seems like forever. I was grateful for Obama Care. Now I am able to continue my journey of becoming a better ealthier version of myself. I have always been that happy go lucky friend that people could easily talk to until I was that friend that slowly over the years became a hermit. I do not really go out much anymore. I like to stay home because aside from being uncomfortable in public it's been getting more di…

My name is Jenn and I'm 30 years old. I'm 5'1" and I weigh 226lbs. I'm scheduled for the sleeve on Feb 9th at Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck, NJ. I wasn't always overweight, but I have been for about the past 10 years. When I started college it was easier to stop at fast food places in between classes than it was to go home and eat. I didn't think it would be a problem as I never really had a problem being overweight. WRONG! I didn't know that I had an underlying thyroid condition until I really started gaining. Once I got my thyroid levels under control I thought that it would be easy to take the weight off...WRONG again! The past few years have been the wo…

I am super excited to be starting this journey! My mom, my sister, and my brother in law have all had this surgery with great success, and I can't wait to get mine!
