Hi everyone. I just got the call from my center telling me that I've been approved. I'm super excited but also pretty scared. I sent a text to my boss telling her that I have a hernia and an ulcer and will likely need a month off--which is untrue, but I've decided to keep the weight loss surgery conversation outside of the office. I feel bad for lying but I don't feel like I need to be too open about my personal decisions. I'm waiting for a reply. I know that I just dropped a bomb on her. I'm also nervous because I started this journey with a close friend and my husband and neither of them are close to scheduling/approval yet--my friend has chosen to continue Her su…

Hi! I am new here. So glad to have found this site. I am 2 weeks post surgery and have lost 19 pounds. I know this will not continue at this rate. But everything I read is different. I know it depends on many factors and I have done my research. Unfortunately my brain is my own worst enemy. I have lost weight in the past on my own only to gain it back when I get frustrated by lack of progress. What is realistic to expect in the first few months? I am a 57 year old woman. I have numerous muscular skeletal problems which make exercise difficult. Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Hello all! I had the Gastric Sleeve on January 20, 2015. I've already experienced the famous stall and was about as frustrated as most of you. I have appreciated all of the posts and information I've found here. You all have helped me tremendously! So, I'm not someone who posts alot, not even on my Facebook, but just really felt the need to share a bit. I'm 44, been overweight since I was 22 (after birth of my son) and finally just had it. I was able take a leave from work and finally do this! Best decision ever! So, stats. .hw recorded 258 in August 2014..sw 230, currently 217.7. 19 days out...not bad. ..looking forward to a healthier, happier me! Good luck everyone. …

Hello all, February 16th the day I am to change my life for the better! I am getting nervous and really starting to realize how much I miss eating food now that I'm on the pre-opt diet. I never knew I could smell everything???? The first three days of this diet was extremely difficult???????? Considering I was a yo-yo with my weight and eating habits this should be a breeze but it is a struggle ???? I need to really change my relationship with food???? I can't wait for the big day, so I think I'm so nervous about everything

One of the things that the class I am taking requires is that I document my journey daily in some way. They of course suggest that I write, but others have video rerecorded what was going on. I've decided to do this. First of all I hate my hand writing and secondly keeping it on my PC allows me to make changes in my history. I want to capture the raw emotion of what I am feeling without being able to process through it at a later date and then altering the history in any way. I think I've made a good start at doing so that in my first entry. Please put up any editing, grammar, or spelling mistakes I might make and PLEASE feel free to respond if you want to. I need your h…

So I'm 5 days post op and I cheated :/ I ate 2 croutons around 7. I let it dissolve in my mouth and then chewed it up well. My stomach didn't feel bad initially. After about 10 mins I felt a bit uncomfortable and started burping. That passed after no more than half an hour. Now 41/2 hours later, I'm experiencing stabbing pains in a couple of my incision sites. Has anyone experienced this??? Am I going to be ok...have I ruptured something??? I'm freaking out.

So..I am six weeks out from my post-op surgery, and felt it was time to join a chat room on the subject. Here is my story: I am a 46 years old male and have pretty much struggled with my weight my whole life. I've had periods of my life where I have been "thin": when I turned 15 I went through a growth spurt and became what I would describe as "tall and skinny." Freshman year of college I began to gain weight...and it never really stopped. About 18 years ago I weighed 227 (I am 6'0'') I joined Jenny Craig and got down to the size I was in high school..175lbs. This was a happy time in my life..a real confidence builder. This lasted around 3 years...and then th…

I've just finished the third week of my pre op classes. The thing that led me this is of course the obvious... I'm obese!!! But, the health and social issues that follow have finally made it too much to bear. I am a 60 year old grandparent who has never gotten on the floor to play with his grandchildren. I suffer from osteoarthritis in both knees which hinder my ability to walk across the room. I have diabetes, COPD, hypertension, high cholesterol, and I'm sick of being sick!!! I don't think I've had lifelong history of weight problems but I can remember being teased for being "fat" as a young child. This changed as I entered high school and started to played sports and…

Oh my gosh, where do I start? My last fill was in June 2013. During the month of July, I was given a Lindt White chocolate bar and now I am addicted!!! Not only to the candy, which I never used to eat, but now I'm addicted to carbs again. I KNOW my pouch has to be stretched out big time. I've gained back about 10 pounds. My problem is I don't know how to get re-started. I haven't been to see my surgeon since the June fill. I haven't been to see my family doctor since the end of September. I KNOW I have to face them, sooner or later, but I know they're both going to be very disappointed in me. I just don't want to face them. I was HOPING someone here may have …

Tomorrow is my first appointment. I went to the seminar three weeks ago and this is all I've been able to think about since then. The three weeks I've waited for my first appointment have been brutal enough. I don't know how I'm going to make it through the six months (or more) until the surgery. I know people say it goes so quickly but I'm so not good at being patient!

On the day of my surgery, January 14th, 2013, I was morbidly obese with a BMI over 50. I was suffering from horrific knee pain and was seriously looking at spending my life in a wheelchair. I couldn’t walk more than a block without having to sit and rest. I couldn’t do the simplest of things like put on socks, or pick up my legs to shave them in the shower. I knew I was probably done traveling. I had just been on a cruise where I couldn’t get off the ship because of the pain I was in. I was wearing 4X tops and 26/28 slacks. I knew I was going to have to buy clothes online soon because I was growing out of these sizes and even places like Avenue didn’t carry sizes m…

As of this morning I can say I am more than halfway to my goal. I was so happy I literally jumped off the scale yelling!! LOL I started this journey in January of 2014 at my highest weight ever of 324, but my pre op weight was 314 and today I was 243. I will be 15 weeks post op on Monday the 9th. I could not wait to get on here to change my ticker since I knew the weight lost would be greater than the weight to lose. :D At almost 4 months post op I find that I can eat a little bit more of some foods, and that my tummy tolerates pretty much anything I have tried. I like that I am not afraid to eat out anymore, and that my family is more than willing to l…

Hi all, it's the first time I've written in here & hoping someone will be able to help! I had my gastric sleeve surgery in July 2014. I weighed 252Ibs & now weigh 182Ibs & Im thrilled!! My issue is that I still can't stomach solid foods. I'm ok with mushy food like cottage pie, lasagne etc but I can not eat say chicken, lamb, beef or vegetables unless they've been minced. I thought I'd be beyond this by now & hoped to find some advice & guidance. Many thanks

Lol... Funny symbol! Outta curiousty, how many sleevers have had their gallbladder removed? I m considering not only getting the sleeve, but to ask the surgeon to remove the gallbladder. Reason: When you have drastic weight loss the gallbladder tends to grown stones in it, causes lots of pain and indigestion problems. If I have to get it removed, might as well get it done now once and for all. What do my fellow sleevers think?

I started to type this in response to another post...Then stopped. I did not want that OP to feel I was criticizing her/him. I read post here everyday from people seeking "Self Control" and "You can do it", etc, etc. So I started this post, and this is in reference to ME, and MY experiences only! And also to the Lap band...don't know what other WLS's are like. Can only speak about myself and my Lap band. You're looking for self control....????? For myself, I have absolutely no self control...I could eat all day, non stop...an empty pit... That is what made me "Morbidly Obese" and was affecting my health...killing me to be specific. So, as a last resort, I had WL…

It's been 11 week post op. I have lost 42 lbs. I should be feeling great and enjoying life! But no! I'm on my second round of antibiotics for C-diff. I'm sick and depressed because I'm in pain and tired of feeling this way. I was told I caught this because of all the antibiotics I was on before surgery. I feel like it's bullshit! I go Into a hospital health. Then leave with an infectious Bactria infection. Anyone like me?

Hi! I finally figured out how to start a thread of my own. I just wanted to post a little introduction of myself. I was a pretty average sized child. Around the start of my puberty years is when my relationship with food changed. I had a bit of a tumultuous home life and the only thing I had control over was what and how much I ate. After a while I became a "foodie", not just enjoying the taste of food but the culture of chef life and cooking competitions. It never really bothered me to be overweight until I went to the doctor for a routine physical and tipped the scales at 297. I decided then and there that I was done being a fat girl. I had a consultation with Dr.…

My Story I found BariatricPal when researching online about my decision to have gastric sleeve surgery. At seven months out from surgery I have reached goal. Two events happened and gave me a big wake up call that I had to change: (1) Admitted to a hospital Intensive care unit for seven days. My internal organs systematically shut down and I coded. As a uncontrolled type one diabetic I was in DKA (keytoacidosis). (2) Received the news that my mother and my father in law both had stage four cancer at the same time. My uncle provided my mothers hospice care while I was providing my father in law's hospice care. They passed with in four days of each other. Amazing the…

So I have been lurking for almost a year but decided today to share and if it helps inspire even one person I will be happy. I am a 6'1" male approaching 50. After playing 3 sports in high school at a relatively muscular 220 pounds--the weight started to pack on after I graduated from college and my activity level decreased. Come 30 years later and by 2014 I had all of the typical problems associated with being way overweight-hard to do stairs, my knees ached, no energy, etc.. I decided to take the step and go find out what this was all about. I went to a free seminar in my area in January 2014 thinking about the band but came out an hour later knowing that the slee…

7 weeks post op today and down 38 pounds..I am happy about my progress..it's getting better and better. I am gaining more energy since starting my b12 and uped my calorie intake to about 500-600 daily ( I am hungry every 2 to 3 hours.) My average weight loss is 3 to 3 1/2 pounds a week so far. I started walking this week since gaining energy to do that! However I stalled in weight loss 1 week before my cycle which was last week and finally lost 1 pound today. has anyone experienced this type of stall and do you experience it every cycle? How many calories are you consuming daily?

In April 2012, I was driving to work one sunny morning when my life changed. A 19 year old drunk driver drove into my lane and hit me head-on. I know just how lucky I am not only to be alive, but not to have been injured any worse than I was. I had 3 broken bones and spent 4 weeks in a wheelchair, 2 with a walker and cane, and weeks in physical therapy, but I'm still here! The problem was even after physical therapy, my joints hurt. I thought I just needed to work-out and lose weight. Uh, yeah, I was about 316 pounds, so that should have been enough of a clue! However, working out wasn't as easy as I thought it would be, because I was in pain during and after. I…

I've been overweight most of my life, I'm turning 35 in March and I put myself on the back burner long enough. I have 4 children and a husband who I love. But being a mom and wife, I neglected myself. Losing focus of my passions in life. Being depressed feeling like I have so much weight to loose (380lbs) now. My goal is 160lb. I never lost more than 40lbs. Trying diet and exercise. Weight watchers. Pills. Shakes. Medical weight loss programs. juicing. The list goes on. Some say this is an easy way out! They just don't understand, this is not a fix all cure all. Its a drastic aid to loose weight but its not going to be easy. We still have to do the work for it to be effec…

So I'm new on here and wanted to join just to get some similar support. Friends and family are great but I think I need people with like/life experiences. My surgery was dec. 3 2014. I am a month post op tomorrow. I have my trials and tribulations and wanted to just reach out and see or get advice on what to look forward to. I'm still having issues with water and protein intake maybe someone could give me some advice on how they manage to get in 80g of protein and 64 oz of water daily. And just any advice in general. I have tons of questions and very little support.
