Just a quick note to let you all know Valentines Day will be exactly one month since my lap band surgery and I cannot tell you how happy I am that I have made this decision to better my overall health. Within the first thirty days and 10 days prior to surgery on a liquid diet. I have lost a total of 44 pounds. When I went for my first fill 2 days ago I was in total awe. I did notice my blood pressure became a lot lower than usual. I was told by the awesome staff at NYU langone to see my physician regarding my BP meds. After seeing my physician, he immediately took me off one of my three meds that I have been taking for the past 15 years. "One Down - Two to Go" …

Hi Everyone! I will be getting sleeved next Wednesday. Having all the emotions that many of you had written about. One of the things that is making me nervous is that I have not told anyone- just my husband and my best friend from childhood. I guess I am embarrassed to admit that I need surgery.... On the 2 week pre op diet....do you think that broth from a Chinese restaurant is a bad idea? G

Hi all my fellow sleevers I am pre op getting ready about three weeks to go. It has been a long six months getting ready. I am 5,11 262lbs all of it around my waist so I get asked at least once a week when I am due. I often tell them I have no uterus and am 51 years old but thank you for thinking I am still in my child bearing years. I used to try to be polite smile and make up a date so they were not embarrassed for asking. I have done tons of research and feel very confident about my choice. Just worried about having the time to really take care of myself after I work six days a week at a very very very stressful job Anyway thats a little about me really love the foru…

I had my sleeve done on Tuesday morning 9/10. I dry heaved and couldn't keep water down the first two days. I am now home and able to drink water about as much as I expected... However, I have zero interest in food, even the smell of broth, protein shakes make me extremely queasy. As a result I am feeling weak, emotional.... The weight is pouring off but I know this isn't healthy. (I'm honestly living for the 2 week Mark where I can add eggs) Anyway I am clinging to hope that someone has experienced this, has some tips, words of wisdom.

I will try keep this short as possible. I think everyone here can attest that we could write a book on our journey. I've always been in shape. Part of the 290+ high PT club in the Army, basketball, softball, and weightlifting were my sports. After 3 kids I gained more weight that I wanted. After my third child, I lost 65 pounds Kickboxing (I was obsessed with it) and was 10 pounds to go I went to the doctor. I wasn't really feeling right and as active as I was I couldn't understand why I started to gain weight back. I was then diagnosed with hypothyroidism in 2009. The roller coaster began. I tried every single fad diet exercise plan and anything I could do to try to lo…

Hi all, I'm new here so I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Samantha and to this date I've lost 96lbs. My starting weight was 414 lbs. My weight loss surgery was 12-15-2014. I had the gastric bypass. For the last two weeks I had some set backs but now I'm back on track. Two weeks ago I got depressed about how much weight lost so I think I was self sabotaging. It was still feeling surreal to me, a dream. But when I stopped losing weight, I realized my dream. I've had to get back losing by reverting to liquids for a few days. It's helped, I've already lost 6 more lbs in just a few days. I was told all this was normal and by joining this forum I've realized too, I'm n…

I got banded in March 2009. By September 2009, my doctor told me I had lost more than the average gastric bypass person (I was down to 230). And then it happened. My dad died. My mother became suicidal, my brother became detached. My family was fractured. I couldn't handle the stress, and my weight loss came to an abrupt halt. I felt like a failure for over the next 5 years. I wondered if I should have gotten the bypass. Should I have waited until something better came along, like the sleeve ? I was beating myself up emotionally, every day. I did not gain all of my weight back (my highest was 289), but I got very offtrack and gained a few pounds and stayed ther…

It all went fine and feel very informed and know that surgery is right for me they have said I will be approved so long as there is no underlying medical conditions that can cause a problem . Etc .. So now I am literally waiting for a letter with the date of my next appointment to meet with surgeon etc ... And for routine tests .... Then after that I think I will be given my date for surgery . If my last appointment was in January does any one know how long till I receive the letter for my appointment with surgeon and other healthcare pro…

Hi I have been thinking about gastric sleeve for a couple of years and in 15 days it will be a reality. I am getting nervious and think about it constantly. I have a really good supportive family and friends and have 3 friends at work who have had this procedure and are doing very well - they are my mentors. Even with all of this I am a bit scared. I am worried about the pain as I believe I have a low pain tolerance. How long are most of you in hospital and how long before you go back to work if you work. I work in an office so no lifting etc. I start the pre preparation tomorrow with the Optifast and vegetables - last week was my birthday and my sister gave me a pr…

I learned that we are not supposed to eat before bed at least 2 hours before bed anyway. I decided to not eat after dinner. why should i get in the habit of eating when im not hungry. If i eat after dinner than its head hunger not physical hunger. Night eating contributes to weight gain. after dinner around 8pm I have a glass of Metamucil and Water mixed. I always monitor for constipation that seems to be a big one (no pun intended) among those who had weight loss surgery. To minimal amounts of food and the body cannot excrete correctly. So fruit plenty of water and veggies are the order of the day. The Metamucil helps with satiety. I am over one year out and reached goa…

I am finishing up the last of my appointsment. I have my pych eval. on tomorrow, then one more appointment with my doctor before they submit all the paperwork to my insurance company for approval. During this process, I found out that I have sleep apnea and high blood pressure. I thought I did not have any comorbities. So I'm little afraid of these things. However, I am starting to get anxious about having the surgery. I kind of wish it would be over already. I'm ready to start losing weight and moving on the next chapter of my life. Here are some things I worry about: Will I be able to loose as much weight as I need to? Will I be able to control my eating? Wil…

Hello Everyone, I am here to tell my lap band story.I was banded in 2003 in Wisconsin.I was almost #300 pounds, and was so miserable.I was so excited to get this device and it changed my life for the better in the beginning.I lost #140 and was very good at sticking to the rules. I worked out 5 days a week and had tons of energy. In 2006 I was starting to experience pain on my left side and back. I was living in Arizona by this time, and had established with a bariatric doctor here. Insurance was covering everything, and we found out it was broke. The tubing had become disconnected from the port.I was experiencing a lot of back pain, and what felt like a hernia wanting to…

I had a lap band in 2008 that has been a tremendous failure. I have been so sick with it that I had to have all the fluid removed from it. My doctor suggests a revision from the lap band to a RNY. I need to lose 10 lbs before I can meet with the surgeon. Any suggestions on how to lose 10 lbs fast?

I really had to work on doing this today. It would be so easy to have blown off journaling. But that would probably led to me taking other shortcuts. Yesterday I started to ride but ended up getting off the bike after only 2 minutes. Way too much knee pain to any further. Today is another day and I will try to do it again. The good thing is that I am not beating myself up over this. My wife and I talked about joining a gym. This would allow me get a cardio workout using my upper body and also work on my strength training which I really don't have the tools to do here at home. I think I'll do that the week after next. I would do it sooner but my daughter and grandchil…

A little background on me. Back in November of 2009, my sister-in-law (brother's wife) died of a pulmonary embolism at the age of 41. She and my brother had gotten married when I was in the 5th grade and she had lived with us before that, so I honestly couldn't remember a time when she wasn't my "sister". I loved her dearly and she was a huge part of my life. Her death was devastating to my entire family. I can't even put into words.... Anyway, she had been overweight/obese as long as I'd known her, which was maybe from her junior year in high school? It was pretty obvious that her weight had contributed to the blood clot that killed her. And after seeing what her death…

My 3 year bandiversary is February 28. I have been the same weight for MONTHS and I'm ready to get the weight loss going again! I started at 237 pounds, dropped down to 172, and then gained after a rough patch in life! Got up to 195. Currently (today) I'm at 191, and I want to lose 41 pounds. I'm doing a seven day restart starting today which consists of clear fluids only today, Soups and creamy stuff tomorrow, then mushies for 3 days (anything I could eat if I didn't have teeth). Then finally back to the regular meals with lean Protein, fruits/veggies, healthy grains, and at least 25g of Fiber. I wrote out the ten rules and posted them on my cabinet in the kitchen. Seven…

I know i said it starts my journey but my journey started many years ago, I have been obese all of my life. I was teased mercilessly and made to feel less than a person. I learned at a young age to laugh at myself before anyone else could and it has been that way for so many years and has become my barrier and comfort zone. As I grew older and wiser I learned to brush off the looks and the laughs but all in all I define myself as a hermit and love being alone now and not facing the world. I actually dont mind being inside and feel comforted by the absense of ridicule. I know this sounds sad but I really love who I am now mentally. My main reason for wanting this surgery …

After years of partying and always being the jolly fat lad, I decided after a harsh relationship break down to take stock of my life. I seem to have spent the majority of my adult life on a diet losing a little bit here and there but thing major and I would always end up pilling the weight back on plus a bit more. I am not unhealthy I was in the gym 3-4 times a week an playing rugby but nothing seemed to move the weight. I got injured playing rugby and had to stop playing an weight just spiralled out of control. it all came to a head in the summer of 2014 I was 31 years old and out of breath walking up the stairs at home and work. I am 3 months in and I have great days and bad days. There is still so much I have to learn, or relearn as the case may be, but on my good days, I feel stronger than ever. I definitely still have issues to work on, but it feels so good to know that I did this for myself and that hard work is paying off. I am such a results oriented person that it is hard to take things day by day, sometimes. Having said that, 3 months is a great time to reflect on where I was 3 months ago. 3 months ago I weighed the most I ever have. Today I am almost down to my lowest adult weight. 3 months ago I was a collective 24 inches larger than I am (arms, bust, waist, hips, thighs). 3 …

Hello, all! I'm 68 years old and originally from South Dakota. I finally found a surgeon in the Tampa Area that I can get to. Also up front money was a concern. I've finally completed my 6 months of physician supervised diet. I'm having quite the time learning to eat properly, and it's quit an adventure coming up with techniques to break a life time of bad habits. I'm in the middle of getting my medical clearances and just getting a taste of the medical records nightmare, but my doc has a wonderful nurse, and I hope we will be able to get all the paperwork in place to set a date! I'm looking forward to getting to know you. Thank you all who are on this journey wit…

All in all yesterday was pretty good. I find that getting used to exercising daily will take some time to get used. Yesterday I was only able to ride the bike for 6 and then 2 minutes before I was forced to stop due to knee pain. But today is another day and will get on the bike again and see what I can do. Things I still need to work on are. Not drinking while I am eating. Getting away from eating in front of the TV. Continued exercise. Stop using caffeine. Things that I am doing well are. I've stopped carbonated beverages. I'm following what I eat through myfitnesspal. I'm starting to exercise. Nothing insightful to add. Just praying that I can follow th…
