Hey everyone. I'm brand spanking new to this forum. I'm scheduled to be sleeved on monday the 2nd of February. I'm so excited! I got approval on a Monday and was scheduled just one week later. I wasn't expecting it to come so fast but they had a cancellation so I took it. I'm on my pre op diet, 4 days in and it's horrible! I'm really not hungry but my brain isn't doing well lol. I'm in a brain fog and this fatigue is awful. I can't hardly type but my brain won't let me sleep. I've been working towards this surgery for 13 months now, finally!! I'm so close. I've been struggling with my weight since I had my first son. Since he was born I stayed big and can't seem to los…

I had my gastric sleeve done in September of 2014 and lost 80 pounds really quickly. I'm sitting on a comfortable 181 pounds at the moment. 3 weeks ago I introduced gym back into my life and average 3-4 sessions a week. I need to lose another 22 pounds and it's a seemingly impossible task. The weight loss has really slowed down and I only lost 4.5 pounds for the whole of January. Did anyone else have to jump this hurdle? What did you do to get to your goal weight?

Heyya, everyone! I'm Mel. I'm 20 years old and have a gastric sleeve operation on 17 December. At first it was really hard, since I couldn't handle the pain medication and every time I even THOUGHT of food, I was repulsed. I still sometimes feel that way. I keep feeling like I'm doing it wrong. I'm having these incredible mood swings and I'm so scared I'm going to mess up! What can I do to feel good again? Is there a fool proof way to make sure I'm doing the utmost to take maximum advantage of this operation? Thank you guys so much. I'm glad I found this site!

Someone who was about to get their surgery just messaged me, asking how I was doing since they were very nervous. I wrote out my response and then thought others might also want to read about how thrilled I am that I did this. So the rest of this post is my response message. This is so awesome! Already the best decision I've ever made. Calm your nerves and start dreaming, because they are going to come true. Ok, I'll give a fuller, totally honest answer so you can assess the situation yourself. The surgery itself went extremely well. The surgeon said there was almost no blood and the whole thing took only about 30 minutes. But I was terrified ahead of time, …

Hi yaw! Greetings from west tn! I am not new to the site... I posted some last year and have constantly hit road blocks in my journey to weight loss... no one around here took my insurance... my pcp quit taking it and I loved her!!!!! I gave up on it after a while and told myself that being fat is just what I'm meant to be... I am currently 335 Pounds I am ashamed to say. I look in the mirror usually with disgust that I have gotten this way... I hate feeling the way I do...we changed insurances to tricare reserve select (hubby is military)...and from what I've heard I have a better chance of getting the surgury....I need this surgury.... I need this change. It quit being …

Brand new to this forum and anxious to absorb as much wisdom as I can from those who have gone before me. I had my surgery on January 13, 2015 and have lost 15.6 lbs thus far. At first the weight was coming off roughly 1 lb per day, which I'm told is fairly normal for months one and two, but my weight stayed steady on Thursday and Friday of this week and I was beginning to wonder if I had done anything wrong. I started Phase 3A High Protein on Tuesday and figured that moving from the broths and jellos to chicken and eggs may have caused me to plateau for a little bit. This morning, I stepped on the scale and found my weight down 1.2 lbs which felt nice. I've got …

Hi my name is Meagan and I am 35, married and have 3 kids. I had surgery on January 20th 2015 and I am MISERABLE! My surgery went normal except my anatomy made the surgeon re-attach in a different area. My hospital stay was horrific. Bad patient care on the nurses side. On the 3rd day I got released home. My kids and spouse were awesome taking care of anything I needed but on Wednesday I started having excruciating pain where my JP drain was. Pain so bad I told my husband if he didn't come take me to the ER I was dialing 911. Once in the ER they tried to calm the pain but nothing was working. I had cried so much that the tears wouldn't come. Morphine, Diladid and Percacet…

Soooo some of you that have read my other posts knoe I've had a lot of different things going on this past year especially emotionally. This weekend my husband and I had an entire weekend for us alone! It started out really bad. He kept suggesting all these places he wanted to go and things he wanted to do like bowling, movies, etc. I really do love doing those things, but my weight always gets in the way. I don't like the looks and stares from people who glare at me as though I was a walking zombie. I don't fit in the theatre chairs comfortably anymore and I finally snapped this weekend. I finally had to break down and tell him why I kept saying no to these places. Afte…

I am in need of encouragement at the moment! I feel as though my journey with the lap band procedure is not going well. I had the lap band surgery at the end of April, 2013. So far I have lost approximately 40 pounds. Not so much considering how much I want to lose. I am a diabetic and have cut my insulin intake in half. I don't gorge and eat like I used to. Still the weight will not come off like I thought it would. I am pre-menopausal and I am sure that hormones are a contributing factor. I had problems with the first few fills, choking, sticking, and vomiting. I plateaued for the last few months with very little weight loss and am now ready to move forward. I…

Hello everyone: My name is Rydell. I am 20 years old and from Pennsylvania. My entire life I've been struggling with my weight. I'm 5' 9" tall. My current weight is 290 pounds but my highest was 311 pounds. It'd be up, down, then wayyyy back up. Dieting for months and months wasn't successful. Meeting with dietitians and sticking to a 1600 calorie intake wasn't successful. The gym 6 days a week was successful for only a short time, then it all bounced right back on. I finally broke down talked to my family doc ably some weight loss pills..his response was, "what about surgery?" I was scared at first. But it was that very moment that I decided it was time to start the j…

My Story – so far. This is a bit of a ramble. Hi everyone! I want to take a moment to thank you all for making Bariatric Pal such a great resource for people who are considering WLS or have had WLS. I am in the “considering” category myself. I am considering a program in the St. Louis area through BJC and Washington University Physicians. I attended my first seminar on Wednesday January 28 and have an appointment with the nurse practitioner and the patient coordinator next Thursday, February 5. The information provided on Bariatric Pal (the good, the bad and the ugly) prepared me for the seminar and has given me a level of comfort with the idea of WLS in ge…

Well I weighed 140lbs around Nov 11 2014 had surgery Nov 11 2013 now I weigh 165lbs I am now a 33 waist was a 30 waist but maybe a 30 waist for a man 48 years old is not reasonable I think that might have been to ambitious. I would prefer to stay at a 30 waist but maybe its not possible I have thought of exercising but I'm not sure my body will lose weight around the waist. I remember I only ate meat and vegetable now I have carbs with my meals. The surgeon mentioned that after one year I would gain 15% back. I guess he was right. Not sure if I should drive myself crazy over the increased waist size.

So I am 2 weeks in 3 days out, and I'm still experiencing muscle pain on one side of my stomach. It's kind of like a pinching pain inside. Now done of you know that I had an infection shortly after surgery in one of my incisions. It wasn't a deep wound and it's almost completely healed and I'm almost done with my antibiotics. No pain it anything there. But on my right side of my stomach hurts when I'm in the process of standing up. Or like if I lie down it's a pain trying sit up cause the side hurts. Somebody plz tell me this is normal. I mean I'm walking I'm getting around the house fine I walk upstairs fine. Is this normal. Anybody else experience this?

Whew! I just got back from Phoenix and I got my nutrition consult, and psych eval finished. Now, I should hear back from the surgeon's office next week to schedule the pre-op. I am so relieved. It is a three hour drive each way, and the nutritionist was nice enough to fit me in after hours so that I wouldn't have to come back for an extra trip. I've ordered the Bariatric Advantage Protein Powder that my surgeon prefers for the two week pre-op diet. I found it online at BariatricFoodSource.com at the best price. I'm finally allowing myself to get excited since I've had some real highs and lows on my journey so far!

So, my surgery date is February 11th. It couldn't come soon enough. I'm currently on day 2 of drinking the Bariatric Advantage shakes. I've had 2 out of the 5 required shakes for the day. It was pretty rough to begin with, but it seems to be getting somewhat easier. I hope I can make it the next 2 weeks. I really want to stick to the regimen. It's just challenging since the shakes are "meal replacements" and I'm not supposed to eat anything. Argh. It's especially hard because everyone at work is taking their lunch breaks and eating actual food. I guess I never realized how preoccupied I was with food. Or maybe I'm just going nuts now because I can't have it. I just nee…
