So excited to begin this journey and feel good about myself and my health! Surgery went well yesterday, it took me a little longer then normal to come out of anesthesia. Last night was a long night and not much sleep, a little pain and headache. Ate my clear liquids breakfast, and my mid morning snack is on the way. Looking forward to the overall outcome!

I had my surgery on 11/17 which was a Monday spent 9 months to get the surgery through all the hoops and appointments I had to do for the VA to cover everything I have to have to take care of. On day 2 of my recovery I ended up not being able to keep anything down. I ended up back in the operating room that Friday night for a fix. I was told from my surgeon that the surgery would only be 30-40 minutes and it would be a quick in and out of surgery, this was not the way it was.....the surgery ended up being almost 4 hours due to a bowel issues and previous hernia surgeries I had in the past. 3 days after that 2nd surgery I ended up with a infection in the open abdominal…

I have always struggled with insomnia. I usually have a particularly hard time with it after surgeries (I have had 23 random surgeries in my past). I usually take Ambien, Tylenol PM, and Melatonin. I have found a rapid release Melatonin that melts in my mouth. I cut the Tylenol pm in half, and take the ambien. I can feel the effects of ambien almost immediately after I take it. Normally I would sleep for 8 hours all night. Lately, I wake up at 2:30 am and that seems to be it for the night. Is my stomach processing the ambien too quickly and it loses its effectiveness quicker? Am I just in a post surgery sleep pattern? Wondering what would happen if I took half a…

My new life date. I have leads had a problem with weight. I was still very active, until 1993. I was in a plane crash and really messed up my foot. I know some are wondering how can a messed up foot case weight gain. It's simple you get to the point where you don't eat because it hurts to stand up and cook. So basically my body went into starvation mode and it holds on to everything I eat. In 2004 I had the lab band surgery and where a lot of people were saying their band didn't work mine did great. I lost 170lbs was healthy and again very active. In 2008 my world turned upside down when I went in to have my band fix do to a slippage. The bad had to be removed due to it b…

My surgery is on Dec 30th!!! It's almost here, and the days seem to be flying by!!! I will be toasting the New Year with my 1 fl. oz. medicine cup of Water in the hospital, lol!!! ???? ???? ???? I am excited, but nervous too. I think it's natural, as it would be before any type of major surgery. The most nerve racking thing for me is my fear of the unknown. I have always feared change, especially any big changes in my life, and this will by far be the biggest one yet. However, I am in therapy, and it helps to work on new coping skills other than eating, which up until I entered into the weight loss surgery program at Boston Medical Center almost a year ago, had been my go…

On November 24,2014 I had my gastric sleeve. I also had a nisan fundalopion and a hernia repaired. I stayed one day in hospital and did great. Pain was at a good level. Thought everything was going to be great. On my one week check up I was so sick and week I could hardly stand. I had dehydrated very badly. My doctor chewed me out because I didn't call him earlier. I thought with my body going through this much I was doing ok. I stayed 3 days with constant iv going in. I was so dehydrated it took 9 ivs because my veins keep busting. They finally had to put a pic line in. I don't ever want to have this done again, very painful. On November 15, 2014 I had a three week check…

My lapband journey began in November, 2007. I flew to Monterrey, Mexico for surgery with Dr. Zapata. He is a skilled surgeon who does many of these procedures quickly and efficiently. I got a 4cc band. After the surgery I experienced minimal pain and virtually no complications, except a little nausea. I went in for my first fill about a month after surgery; long enough for the swelling and initial tightness to recede. My first fill was tiny, just .1 or .2 cc's. Even though it was very small, and all the subsequent fills I received were very small, it was enough to cause me to vomit every time I ate. After 4 weeks or so, I was able to keep down some food and after…

Hello. My name is alyssa.i am 23 years old, turning 24 next week. I am new to this app. I recently had my gastric sleeve procedure done on December 3rd 2014, so I am a little over a week out. I haven't always struggled with my weight. things seemed to go downhill right after high school. In 2009, my senior year in high school, I weighed 150 pounds. Even then I never felt good about myself. I've always had a problem with this. my heaviest weight was 265 pounds. This is the weight I started my bariatric surgery program at back in April. I work in a bariatric department and what motivated me to decide this life change were the patients. I love being able to move through the…

I'm home but can I just say OMGEEEE! Last evening/night was rough. As Jerry said it hurt to get out of bed, walk, pee, talk, laugh (I'm a glggler so I had to practice restraint) I've read on here that day 2 was the worse because the anesthesia wears off and boy is that right! All through the night I had them give me pain meds back to back which made it more bareable. I got home around 3pm exhausted because we all know we don't sleep in hospitals. I took a nap, showered (thank you Jesus for soap and water) I don't take such things for granted. Had some of my moms homemade chicken Soup (broth only) and a bit of Jello. Now I'll be doing some walking around the house and …

I went for my final visit with the surgeon before my surgery on 12/30 . I was given my scripts and my appointments for after surgery . The surgeon explained everything that would happen the day of surgery in great detail. I bought all my Vitamins and purchased my Proteins and hopefully everything else I need for when I come home from the hospital . I have never been so excited or scared about something in my whole life then this surgery. I know in my heart I have made the right decision .

I am now 3 days post op and I am pretty soar. I have one incision that is giving me fits. It's dimples in. And I feel like it's the one that is preventing me from moving more. I have problems getting up, walking up straight and just very slow. I trust that this isn't permanent. The question is when was you fully mobile? thanks

I am very excited about this because I have been dealing with weight issues and high cholesterol since I had my baby boy 16 years ago. I decided to have weight loss surgery because I am so tried of being tried not having the energy to pay with my godsons and I want to see all my kids graduate and one day when they are off and married - i would like to be a healthy grandmother. Hi Everyone, I had my bypass surgery 11/21. I'm hoping to talk with others going through the same journey (and time frame) as me. I'd also like to hear from those of you who've been down this road, recently or a long time ago. Like a lot of people I know, most of my family doesn't know I've had this surgery as they wouldn't agree so I count on the ones that do know; a couple of my family members, my friends, and the friends I've met here. Looking forward to talking with and accomplishing new goals with everyone! Have a great day!

Hello, y'all. I'm a big guy who has been struggling with weight loss all my life. I had been successful for a while with Adkins, but when the diabetes kicked in I hit 400 pounds. My internist (who I love...he's a little round fellow, so he doesn't get holier-than-thou about weight loss) recommended RYGB. In the process of researching it I bought a copy of "The Big Book of the Gastric Bypass," and it was the best thing I'd read. I got the procedure in September and everything has been working out great. Now for the coincidence. One of the things I like to do is narrating audiobooks. I've done 18 titles now for Audible.com, recording and producing the files myself. I'm qu…

Good morning all. I had my second fill this past Thursday. The doctor didn't use a numbing shot this time but it wasn't painful at all. I did notice my port site to be tender the next day but not bad. With my first fill I had little restriction the first week then nothing after. This morning I made an egg, mushrooms, and spinach ( 1 cup total) . Yummy but OMG I ate maybe half of it and I'm stuffed...so stuffed I was scared I was going to have my first stuck episode. Felt like I had a lump in my throat and my mouth started watering (tmi). I walked around a bit, and said a prayer, promising I would eat much slower if I didn't get stuck. It went away after 5 mins. I have to …

My name is Jaysen and I'm at literally the very beginning of this journey. I'm not the best at punctuating and have many run on sentences so Please be kind lol... I do try my best though ???? My first meeting with a surgeon is not until February 6th.. It kinda sucks being so far out but hey it gives me more time to actually read the directions so to speak. I'm really the type that skips all the important stuff anyway, so I guess it's the universes way of slowing me down in that regard... I've got a wonderful friend who recently went through RNY and she looks amazing, a question I asked her in regard to my own process was, do I have to have 2yrs proof of my BMI being 40…

Hello everyone, My name's Kristen.. I live in the Sacramento area and I'm just starting out & hoping to get the Gastric sleeve. I started the Optifast program through Kaiser last September and have lost 120lbs.. I still need to lose another 100 at least and I'm hoping that this surgery will be the tool to help me achieve that! I have a class on 01/06/2015.. after that I was told to let my doctor know if I'm wanting the surgery and we'll go from there. Does anyone else have Kaiser? About how long from start did it take for you to have surgery? I'm very curious about this because I've seen that this can vary quite a bit. Also - anyone else in the Sacramento a…

I was banded July 3rd 2013 and had fantastic results. 170lbs gone forever. So much so that two weeks ago I had a full tummy tuck. Removing nearly 9lbs of skin and fat from my tummy. I was in the green zone before my surgery my band at 10•5cc I had to choose carefully but where that failed exercise made up for it. I'm an exercise junkie. Prior to my op I had my band released to 1•75cc's. And now the skin on my abdomen is so tight eating even small portions is a real challenge. I feel painfully bloated after a few mouthfuls in the mornings. Evenings are slightly easier, I can eat a reasonable amount. Has anyone else had this procedure or any ideas? I'm definitely not going …

Hi everyone! I am actually having my gastric bypass the surgery this coming Tuesday, on December 16. I'm very excited for it, but a little nervous because four weeks ago I had a complete abdominal hysterectomy with an 8 inch vertical incision. I am starting to feel pretty good, and I am getting some of my energy and mobility back. I was not expecting to have to have a hysterectomy, and was actually scheduled to have the bariatric surgery on December 1 before they found out I had to have emergency hysterectomy. My gynecologist and my bariatric surgeon both seem to think that I will be fine to continue with the bariatric surgery on December 16, four weeks and five days afte…

So the vet and I were out working cattle today. We had to vaccinate, trich test, deworm and tag 14 bulls. Basically, they are run into the chute one at a time, we do our thing and then release them out the front. At that point there is nothing between us and the bull, but they normally just wander off towards the open gate where they are released into another pen. Well the ranch hand responsible for this step was not running them out of our pen in a timely manner, so 4 bulls ended up together in the pen with us and two of them started to fight. At this point, all you can do is run for your life! They were slamming and crashing into everything and I managed to scramb…

I am freshly 24 and have been overweight for as long as i can remember. I belong to a family of emotional eaters! I'm sure that many of you know exactly what I am talking about when I say those words! Bad day? Ice Cream! Good say? Ice Cream! Holidays and birthdays are planned solely with food in mind! I have told myself over the years that I am happy with who I am and what I look like, but as the years pass I realize this just isn't the case! Diets never work, and a life style change is in order! I finally made the decision that surgery is what it will take for me to be successful in losing and keeping the weight off. Earlier this year I started doing lots of research on …

I just had my sleeve done on Tuesday December 9. They are making me stay here for 2 reasons. First I am vomiting up Water which is all I've had thus far. I had to take the swallow test 2x because I was too swollen for it to go through on Wednesday. Today I passed it. I'll mention that I am a band to sleeve revision Second, I am now in atrial fibrillation. I have the kind that comes rarely. I'm not typically in a fib. The last time I had a fib episode was in October of 2013. This current time was because they dropped the ball on my meds. I did bring them with me but they wouldn't let me take them. I guess in this part I'm just venting because now tomorrow morning they w…

Hello Everyone, I'm new to this forum but not to WLS. In September 2015, I'll be 6 years since WLS. I started a little less then 300 lbs at 5'2 wearing a size 48 in pants and I got down to 170 with the RYN procedure. Within the last five years I've gained back 15 lbs. which is Ok according to to my doctor. I'm currently in a size 34 pants, working towards a 32 by July 2015 which happens to my around my 50th birthday; OMG. During these five WLS years, with all the energy I have, I've gone back to school a earned both a MBA and a DBA (Doctorates in Businesses Administration). I currently have a full-time career at a nuclear disposal facility and two part-time jobs (even…

I spent years using food as a comfort source. I had three children, lost the weight and then immediately put it back on plus some. I tried diets. They never worked for longer than a month or two and I always rebounded back. When I found myself forcing myself to vomit I knew that I needed to do something different. I decided in October 2013 to do the surgery (I had been researching for over a year). My husband's cousin had gotten the surgery with great success so I set up my appointments and got scheduled to do the surgery November 5th 2013. Mine wasn't a case of many health problems or inability to do physical things. I got up to 285 pounds with a bmi of 43.31. I…

Where do you stand? No matter where you are on your journey, could you share some body stats? If not your current stats, then where you started? I sometimes see people becoming discouraged if someone is losing faster, or someone who weighs the same as they do can wear a smaller size. I think it will help to see that everyone is DIFFERENT, we all carry our weight differently, and height makes a difference. Muscle mass and gender make a HUGE difference. Feel free to update as your size changes.

January 2009 I had my lap-band surgery done in Brooklyn, NY. I followed the rules before and after the surgery and lost about 30 lbs. total counting the two week pre-op liquid diet. I went for fills regularly for a while but did not see much in the way of weight loss results. I would be asked if I feel any restriction, and I always did - especially the first day or two after getting a fill. I was always surprised by how much I was able to eat and what foods I could eat. It got to a point I felt like the band is just not working for me and I sort of gave up. Life got in the way and I stopped going back to my doctor. About three and a half years later I decided to go bac…

Today is my first time visiting this site and my first year anniversary. A year ago I had a gastric bypass bypass and I have lost 75 lbs. I try not to eat much carbs and I stay away from sugar. This has keep my weigh down and my greatest challenge is getting my next 20 lbs off. After getting the initial weigh off I find it difficult to rid the last 20 lbs. This is my challenge until I really put my mind to this task. My surgeon is Dr. Ramsey Dallal at Elkins Park Einstein Hospital.
