This time maybe

Long time (mostly lurker) member here :) I just did the whole seminar thing (again -_-) and have requested an appointment. I'm hoping I can start this journey by the end if the month. I've finally got insurance that will make it a possibility! I've have been trying for 6 years (actually more like 10 but I was told I was too young 10 years ago) now to have bariatric surgery, however, it just hasn't been in my cards. I'm hoping my surgeon will be able to get me in mid December (though if he tells me he can get me in in October I won't hesitate!).

I am currently 26, I am 5'2" and 325 which gives me a whopping BMI of 59! I don't have any co-morbidities (yet!) but I'm sure if I wait any longer they are just around the corner. I have tried dieting over and over and over agin but always gain back, I've lost up to 60 pounds only to gain back another 80. My weight has gotten to a point where I can no longer do things I want...specifically horseback riding...I've got a herd that I can no longer romp around on. I also love going on mission trips but the flights are uncomfortable both physically and emotionally and then I have a hard time keeping up while on them and being a productive member.

A year ago I was looking at doing the lap-band, my main reason was I am terrified of having my innards cut to pieces but over the last year I have gotten the chance really look at statistics. I don't want a second surgery, I want one and be done with it, looking at the statistics the LB will more than likely require another at some point. The second thing I looked at was potential weight loss. I can loose twice as much with RNY, the band won't give me near as much weight loss potential as I need.

Anywho, wish me luck, send me prayers, and I look toward to sharing my story as it unfolds :)

Hey Spring Dixie, how is everything going I noticed your last post was over a month ago. I just got my surgery date of 12/9, after waiting about 8 years also so I totally know how you feel. I was a week away from having surgery last time and was told my medicaid was no longer active. That was a big blow! I lost my job this year and instead of getting down about it I figured it was time for me to have surgery this time! So are you having surgery this month? I'm 28, 4"11 and started at 218lbs this go around. I'm going to try to add you as a friend. Also I am making a secret facebook group if you would like to be a part of it!

Thanks for checking in on me! I got a little down as I had planned on this month originally (actually this week!) but i needed more time to financially plan for it and also be able to take more time off from work than 1 week. I'm now planning on around 12/19. I have one more procedure tomorrow and after that I will be scheduled and have an actual surgery date!

I would love to join your Facebook group, send me a message! ????

Hi everyone I have started a new group on Facebook. The group is 100% private. It is specifically for people who have had or are planning to have the Gastric Bypass surgery. If you would like to join you can search my entire name Mia Ashton LeCompte and send me a friend request and message telling me you would like to join. You may also be able to click this link to get to my profile page, because the group is so private you must be on friends list in order for me to add you to the group.

Congrats on your surgery date. I know how excited and nervous you are. I had my surgery February 24th I have lost 114 lbs have another 20 to go to my goal. I would do it again in a heartbeat. My advice is to follow all the rules and don't push yourself to eat too early. Best of luck.

Way to go! That's impressive!

I'm actually not finding myself nervous at all. I'm very excited. In the past when I've looked at doing it I was nervous about all the what ifs but now I'm beyond that. Im more nervous that it's so far out that something might happen that'll prevent me from having it done. For me there is nothing to be nervous about. I'm done living like this. Will it be a complete lifestyle change, you bet...but if it means not "living" like this then I'm ready. The risks of surgery at this point are more than worth it...if there's major complications then so be it, at least I tried.

I'm ready and hopeful and most of all excited ????
