Howdy all - Excited to have now crossed over to post-op. Had VGS 18DEC with the incredible Dr. Joseph Greene, Maryland Bariatrics. You can read and read and read, but still not know what to expect. I have to say, 2 days post and I am getting along better than anticipated. A bit achey but will prepared. Excited about the next leg of my journey. Glad to have a home to share, learn, support and get supported! Only drawback... couldn't go see SWIX on opening day [emoji19] [emoji3] KesselRunnerU12P -Out

I am a month post opp and I barely want to eat. I’ll have a couple bites of fruit in the morning and that keeps me full all day. I know this isn’t healthy and I have my appointment with my surgeon in a couple of days, but I thought I’d get opinions or help from people who have also had the VSG. Sometimes the smell of food just makes me sick. The weird thing is that my body wants to throw up, but nothing comes out. My girlfriend has to force me to take a couple bites of food but I just hate eating now :( any advice ?

Hey guys! An update on me. I know I got a lot of help and encouragement reading these pre-op. I am on day 8 post-op. Went back to work yesterday and had a great day. I made it the entire 8hrs and wasn't tired at all. I do have a desk job which is nice. Today I weighed myself and I am down 18lbs!!! Can not believe I'm down so much after a week. Hoping this continues for a bit lol. I do have slight pain at the incision sites, but it's not a pain, more I know they are there. Zero problems with liquids or pureed foods, which I started today. Everything is settling pretty good. One thing I like and also need to get used to is once my tummy is full, that's it! You…

Hello, post-op friends, who are further along their journey and from whom I hope to glean wisdom from..... here’s my story thus far. On Monday, December 16, I had RNY bypass surgery along with a hiatal hernia repair and removal of a small suspicious abdominal mass. 3 years ago, I had a large abdominal mass that turned out to be a borderline malignancy. My oncologist had been watching this new spot for a little over a year and when I told her that I was going for bariatric surgery, she said that she would come in at the same time and remove it. I woke up from surgery in relatively little pain, the deed being done and the procedures routine. My problems came the da…

I had my 3 month appointment today and the Dietitian was happy with me except I am not eating enough. I have been getting 500 to 800 calories a day and she wants me at 1200 to 1400 a day. And this is why I have been losing so slowly. When the body doesn't get enough energy from food your body will go into starvation mode and you won't lose! I know we all know this but it is so hard to think about getting all those calories in for fear it will cause gain weight.

I have lost a total on 45 pounds in a month and a week. Everyone can see a difference in my body and face but when I look in the mirror I see no change at all. I still think the clothes fit me the same and nothing is changing with my stomach. Anyone going through it? I hear most wls patients go through it, I might end up seeing a therapist for it honestly.

I had my surgery in August this year! And I'm not sure where to put this so I'm writing it here... I started talking to this guy and went on a date yesterday I really like him we have been talking for two weeks. Well yesterday I saw his phone and he messaged a girl on sat on the dating site. Then he was talking to a girl who texted him I think he found on fb which he adds a lot of single girls. My issue is I don't like it! How do I tell him and get him to delete them? Or delete the dating site? Should I Waite longer or get him to get rid of them now???? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Anybody interested in posting just before and after pics? Most of the other threads are old, or bloated with "you look awesome" and "you go girl!" type comments. It makes it difficult (esp on mobile phones) to dig through to the pics most people are interested in. I know I would be interested in seeing a condensed "look book" Sent from my Nexus 7 using the BariatricPal App

I was sleeved about 4 years ago - I am 6’, was 36 at the time, about about 290. I got down to 240 at my lowest and now hover at 245-250. I feel like a failure in what I did and the outcome. I have battled depression for a while. I take Xffexor 150mg daily and I just sort of lost touch and ignore the guidelines to follow (daily vitamins/good food choices/etc). I need a jumpstart to get good habits formed again. I don’t want to wait till “new year”. Thinking of the pouch reset diet (5 day?). Just wanted to communicate with others and try and feel better physically and mentally. This isn’t as good as it can be. I know I can feel better and do better.

IMO had surgery Monday 12:16 and I’m wondering how you slept right after surgery, at home? We don’t have a recliner unfortunately. The best part about the hospital was the adjustable angles of the bed. I’ve piled pillows to thee sides of me and used a back pillow to sleep sitting up so far. When we’re you able to sleep on your side? What helped you to be more comfortable?

Hey all! I was wondering how all my October 2019 people are doing? I'm ok. I pinched a nerve in my neck, so I can't go hard on the exercise, like I'm dying to do, but I'm down 40 lbs since my October 28th surgery, so hey, I'm happy. I've almost lost 100 lbs since I started dieting on my own in July (less than 10 lbs to go). I'm a different person and it's amazing.

Hope everyone is doing well this time of year. Will be my first Christmas with this surgery RNY. I've been thinking up ideas of what I can possibly tolerate and I think my best option to have the usual chicken roast is to turn into like a chicken soup or stew I've just recently bought myself a nice multi cooker that has many options such as slow cook; Pressure cook and baking.. so because I'm still mostly on liquids and very soft food still I've decided for me to actually enjoy the chicken and vegetables; that I'll put it all together in the cooker with some stock and various vegetables and some garlic and salt and pepper then let it cook so when it'…

Had surgery Dec. 10th RNY, today I decided to go to walmart and pick up a small mixer that puree food as well, my daughter pushed the buggy and loaded items into cart but I was plum wore out once we got home, I am talking all vitamins without difficulty and on full liquid diet, getting in 3 unjury protein shakes a day, 1 1/2 8oz cups of chicken broth a day! Should I be doing anything different or just slow my roll? Had to take a couple Aleve!

On FluffyChix's recommendation, I got "The Alternate Day Diet" by James Johnson, MD. Love it! I really like how he cites the research and evidence. I'm about half way through and started ADF today. I've done it before, but preferred 16:8 IF, which I am struggling with due to exercise demands and the doggone ulcer. BUT the restricted caloric intake is so easy and can be timed to meet my biking/ hiking routines. And I can eat small snacks spread throughout the day if my tum ulcer is needing something for the acid to work on. Anyway, thanks FC for a great read that is scratching right where I itch right now! This journey is such an adventure - so many new things to lear…

Good evening everyone, I am four days post-op and I am exhausted. I had trouble getting the intubation for surgery because my cervical spine is fused. I was a little worried going in that there could be problems. I wanted to stay optimistic and pray for rage best. I spent from Monday to Wednesday in the ICU . What I didn’t expect was the spearing pain my right arm. It’s pretty badly bruised but the orthopedic surgeon thinks its a bicep tear, which isn’t really a ‘now’ emergency. The anesthesia and physical deconditioning (plus the arm) means I am going to subacute physical rehab. I know this the best choice because I have zero energy. I am pretty sure I have d…

I can feel hunger when hungry, but I don't get the "I'm full" feeling yet .. is this normal? So I eat really really small amounts in fear of "overeating " . Eating small is required anyways, but I really eat small because when I eat, I don't get the full sensation.. [emoji849]?[emoji848]

Does anyone else have an "issue" with the fact of seeing their food and having trouble believing you can't finish it all? Maybe it's just me? I see food(even the smallest amount ) and I'm like "wait .. I've never been able to not finish what's on my plate... This is weird to me... And it feels abnormal".. hard to explain [emoji43]

I have done a great job of listening to my body. Since surgery I have developed a habit of sneezing just before I am full. My sneeze is the warning sign to stop. After that its 1/2 more bites at max. I am never concerned with overeating at meals but with the sleeve you can eat around it by snacking which was never a weakness for me but its enough to stall weight loss. While I have spent the past 2 months in a stall the past two weeks I have found myself snacking a lot more partly because I am no longer seeing the results. I am aware its happening and am trying to stop it early. My confession I am a chocolate and peanut butter *****. Now that I sai…

Hello there I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.. I've been on shakes a long time no issues with that or yoghurt consistency... Soon as I started this week some solids like healthy slice meat or a tiny 2oz chicken free range burger.. I had to chew a lot.. But as the burger was going down i could literally feel it going down my neck into my stomach felt weird and was Almost like indigestion until it settled in my stomach after about 10 mins but then I had to rush to toilet and some clear liquid came back up my throat with a little foam.. It has happened a few times.. Am I eating too quickly? Should I only have one bite then wait then have the next bite? …

Why do i still feel so ill. I have awful nausea even on meds for it and my tummy just seems to be in hyper gurgling mode & feels empty. I am not enjoying food when i can eat and am on very low cals. Most days around the 300 cal mark, not getting close to my 80g protein and my hair is vacating my head. I've spoken to the bariatric nurse but not very helpful and can't give me a ball park figure for how long the nausea will last. So over it because i just can't function as a normal human being because i have to lie down so much! Bonus is that my weight loss has been steady and i am almost in the healthy weight range [emoji4] Any others have nausea issues?

So my big questions is if any of you have any experiences with ankle surgery? I guess the worst case scenario is ankle fusion. Anyone have any thoughts on that? Now that Im getting down to more manageable weight, I want to get even more active than my morning dogs walks. The only problem (even with my walks) is my ankle tendon pain (and maybe a bit of arthritis). I screwed the hell of out my left foot over 20 years ago but since I never really recovered and gained weight afterwards, no doctor really wanted to take me seriously. So now with the weight going down, I finally got an orthopedic surgeon to take me seriously and Im getting help. But I have been so out of t…

So for my 5 weeks and up let’s share one or as many of your meals. breakfast: I’m trying eggs with avocado and a bit of spinach lunch: turkey and cheese wrap with a bit of hummus spread my dinner I’m still on the fence about it if I have room but I’ll do 2/3 meatballs and a side of carrots or diced chicken and carrots. Of course I’m between 3-4 ounces for my plan. Now lunch and dinner I pick one or the other and my a plain eater Or sometimes in this phase I do really eat as much but when I can I these are my go too. What’s yours??

Hi everyone! I had my surgery on November 19 and have been doing well with following the food stages and losing weight. Between my pre-opt diet and the surgery I was down 29 lbs. I’m on stage 3 soft foods and within the last 2 days I have gone up a pound and half. Of course it’s upsetting but is this normal to fluctuate a little or am I doing something wrong?

I'm so embarrassed to admit this, but someone gave me the idea on here that he/she chewed some solid food to get the sensation and flavor and spit it out. I was so desperate at day 4 or 5 post surgery that I tried it. I felt an immediate relief of having food in my mouth but spit it out. I'm afraid this is a slippery slope and I'm scared that I have so little self control (still) that I would do this more than once. I fear a little food may have gone down, but so far I feel fine. I've done it a handful of times over the past few days. I'm 10 days post op. Anyone do this craziness?
