Hey! I'm now 9 months post-op and about 15lbs from goal weight. Wanted to see what people are doing about dating, specifically eating out. I'm going to dinner with a guy a friend set me up with this weekend and just nervous about him wondering why I don't eat that much of meal. My surgery is something I've been very open about to friends/family so if I go on several dates with someone I would absolutely tell them but I don't want to do it on the very first date. Thanks!

I'm not a newbie by any means but lately i'm going through a phase where i just don't want to see food. So i had to think of ways to maximize the amount of protein in each meal. I would love to see what everyone else does, i think it would help lots of us. Disclaimer: my ideas aren't exactly new. They're just new to me lol. Feel free to add any other suggestions.

I am 3 weeks post op. I have only been able to consume cottage cheese, FF refried beans, Oikos tripple zero yogurt and my protein shakes. I have tried several different proteins for the pureed stage, and now in the ground stage. Moving on next two weeks to fork tender protein but I cant seem to get anything down I take very small bites and eat slowly , it all feels like its getting stuck in my Esosphogus. Cant drink anything with the eating so , i keep eating the same 3 things over and over I seem to tolerate. Cant eat any kind of egg they now make me vomit. tried different fine ground meats etc, nothing works getting very frustrated.

My husband just had the sleeve done 5/7. He’s drinking his Bariactric advantage high protein shakes, water, sugar free non carbonated drinks, eating sugar free jello, and sugar free popsicles with no problems. The only problem is he’s getting tired of the shakes and doesn’t like the beef and chicken broth. He has had egg drop soup minus the eggs and vegetables. What are some options out there? I know everyone’s body is different but would like to see what everyone had at 2 weeks. Thank you!

Had VSG on 5/10/18. No problem drinking broth a whole protein shake (all over like 90 minuets of course). Popsicles are great. Still haven’t tried jello. But water? No matter how small of sips I take, it feels like it gets stuck. Did anyone else have issues with the water part right after surgery? Hey All - I am heading out on a 4 day kayaking trip. We will sleep in a cottage every night and have breakfast and possibly supper there before/after each day trip. I am planning meals for the cottage and while out on the water or parked on the shore. The cottage has electricity, stove, oven, microwave and fridge and I will have a cooler with me in my kayak. I am on diet 3, soft foods. I was wondering if anyone had and any ideas to share for food and snacks. I am used to being on the go with school and work. I have mostly been doing good but have skipped some meals and snacks in the past week in favor of convenience when busy. I am looking for things that are easier to s…

I had gastric sleeve almost 1 month ago. Obviously, the sleeve knows when it’s had enough. However, sometimes after I eat, I spit up and/or burp up some of the food I ate. I have found by slowing down my eating and taking smaller bites helps and eating smaller, more frequent meals throughout the day helps. My biggest fear is stretching out my sleeve, therefore, I’m trying to avoid eating to the point my sleeve tells me “no.” I feel I should be stopping before. Just curious, when do some of you stop eating? What works? What doesn’t?

I discovered this new pasta substitute at Walmart the other day and finally got around to trying it tonight. It's delicious! There are three other flavors, too -- zucchini/lentil penne in olive oil or a cheddar cheese sauce, and spinach/lentil rotini in alfredo sauce. This is the only one I've tried. It's 8g protein for a 1.25 cup serving, so 1.6g for 1/4 cup. I mixed mine with 1/4 cup of seasoned chicken breast for a total 1/2 cup meal with 10.6g protein. More info on the company's website.

I realize this might be in the TMI category, but is there a difference between vomiting before and after surgery? I would think it wouldn't be as "violent" because there;s not as much tissue involved and perhaps it wouldn't hurt as much. I'd like your thoughts, experiences on this so I can be prepared as I start my journey~ I absolutely HATE throwing up, especially with abdominal surgery!

This is a question for those who are over a year out. Anyone tried adding complex carbs? I don't do them now, but I am considering experimenting. I'm wondering if anyone has been able to successfully incorporate them without gaining weight over a several month period of time. If I add healthy fat to my meal, I stay full longer, but I am concerned about the fat and the carbs together.

Hello everyone! I had VSG on 4/18 and I’m cleared for regular, solid food as of today. My discharge paperwork says 2 days clear liquids, 2-3 days soft/purée, then regular diet. Does this seem a bit fast? Has anyone else been given a similar schedule? TIA

I had my surgery a little over a month ago. I’m now on soft foods. Every time I take a bite I get this heartburn feeling and then it seems like my stomach “opens up” and then the food goes in and the feeling is better...until I take the next bite. Is this normal? Will this feeling go away the more I heal?

Help please!!! I’ve been really struggling to get in my required protein intake everyday so in an attempt to raise it, I brought the unflavored isopure protein powder... it is definitely not unflavored. So far I’ve added it to oatmeal and to a smoothie with spinach strawberries and blueberries but both have been really nasty / hard to stomach. Does anyone have any tips or tricks to using this product ? What can I add it to that has worked well for you ?

I'm in a rut with food -- sick of things I've been eating, but not sure where to begin with finding other things that I'll like, are healthy, and will agree with my stomach. I'm cleared for all foods as long as my stomach agrees with them, but I'm trying to avoid white carbs like pasta, rice, and bread (though I will do 100% whole wheat toast now, since it no longer makes me sick, and I've been using FlatOut Light wraps ocassionally). Haven't tried 100%WW pasta yet, because pasta was one of my go-to foods for overeating before, so I'm trying to avoid it as long as I can (though I'm craving it something fierce). The main problem is that I'm a picky eater. Always …

I was at work today and didn't have my strainer. I fixed a can of cream of potato soup with water. I then used a spoon with holes in it and got out all of the large chunks. There were still a few very small pieces of stuff in it so I hope I haven't hurt anything. I tried to chew, chew, chew if I came to one of those small pieces. Please advise.

Hello. I am 10 days post op sleeve. It has been a nightmare. I have developed a large right sided pulmonary embolism which cost me the weekend in the ICU. Hi! I'm 8 weeks post-op and wondering if strawberries are ok to eat/add to smoothies?! I only had to see a nutritionist pre-op and I vaguely remember her saying something negative about strawberries.... I think something about the seeds. I was at my surgeon's office this week and he pretty much said all healthy options are open now, but I forgot to ask!!! Any info would be helpful. thanks!

Has anyone ever started out doing keto and then switching back to a more traditional bariatric plan? Did your body adjust easily or did you gain weight? Just to clarify- i don't mean going from keto to eating pizza and french fries all day. But i do mean transitioning from the keto diet to a lower fat, higher protein, low good carb (such as fruits, veggies including starchy veggies and beans) lifestyle.

Hello, i am posting for my wife who had her gastric sleeve done on 2/28 and is just staring the pureed foods diet. the question we have is are there any alternatives to the "sweet" protein shakes and supplements. we tried syntrax nectar, all of the isopure rtd's, and a few of the body fortress brands prior to her surgery, after her procedure we re tried them and she is having issues with the artificial sweetner taste to all of them. i had been putting isopure unflavored protein powder in chicken broth for her but she has recently been experiencing increased acid after drinking it even with taking the omeprazole her surgeon proscribed. short story long, any tips or tricks…

I'm 6 months post op and have been dealing with a really annoying stall forever. I'm not complaining because at least it's not moving up but I've been working out almost every day and eating pretty well—I average ~1,000 calories and ~100g of protein/day following a mostly keto diet, though if I wanted to I could certainly eat more. I feel satisfied but not restricted and I tolerate literally EVERYTHING. Anyway, I just hired an INCREDIBLE trainer that Im really excited about! She is a world champion athlete, has a SOLID reputation, and a background in nutrition. She was honest with me that she isn't super versed in bariatric patients. My Dr.'s staff hasn't given me g…

I had gastric sleeve on February 23rd. I have to do full liquids for for a month post-op. I am so sick of artificial sweeteners. It seems like everything has them, the sugar-free Jell-O, the sugar free pudding, the protein shakes and any kind of low calorie drink. Can someone tell me if they're nutritionist wanted of them to continue to use them once you're out of the liquid phase. I would much rather just eat clean.

Had my sleeve on 12/21 so I am week 2 now, just wondering if anyone else's diet is this limited? (Mine is even more so than what is written I am allergic to artificial sweeteners so that takes off the protein shake and anything "diet" or "light") how do you deal with such a limited menu? I am 4 days post gastric sleeve, I am not hungry at all, yet I am craving every kind of food known to man. I mostly desire cheez-it’s and zaxbys buffalo chicken tenders, and thin crust pizza. I’m not going to give into it, but is anyone else having cravings like this? I am on day eleven and I wasn’t paying attention and at the jello cup in about ten minutes. Shouldn’t I have felt over full or something? I didn’t feel like anything no stuffed or such. Hey guys. I’m just about at 6 weeks post op and starting my “full” diet. Obviously not eating anything or everything in sight, but I’m curious about soup noodles and such. How drastically should I avoid those things. I’m not gonna have noodle soup, but if I have some in some chicken noodle soup is that the worst thing? I just got sick and my mother in law made me some homemade soup. Let me know your thoughts, please Thanks!
