I am 6 weeks post op for gastric bypass. Experiencing lots of dizziness and weakness. Trying my best to get in the required 64 oz of liquids and 60 gr protein, but not there yet. Anyone else have problems with dizziness and weakness? Also, I have not attempted to eat salads or peanut butter yet, but would like to. Any problems? I know everyone is different and our tastes change after surgery, but I am trying to find something I really like to help with the protein shortage.

I gave up sugar substitutes several years ago and it was great for my health--I stopped getting bad headaches and they have stayed away. I tried to only eat things sweetened with real sugar, little or no corn syrup, etc. Both before and after my RNY surgery, I've "had" to go back to the sugar substitutes for things like my SF jello and pudding, which have been essential. My thought is that when I'm able to eat more food and more variety, I'll wean off of them. However, I've noticed that I've been getting more headaches, and though it might be unrelated, I'm trying not to add any more fake sugar in my diet. My NUT said to keep sugars under 15 grams and fat under 5 gra…

Sleeved on may 30th 2017. I now get these horrible intense hunger pains when i am hungry. Its nauseating and makes me get flushed and cold sweats. When I eat it doesn't take much and then I feel disgusting when I'm full. What am I doing wrong? Most people say they are never hungry now. I'm still hungry.. It just doesn't take as much to fill me up. Sent from my LGMS210 using BariatricPal mobile app

I'm 19 days post op and I can't even walk around my house easily. I called my surgeon and talked to him and he told me I have to eat to get energy and be able to walk normally. Problem is I can't eat anything at all, maybe a small bite of something and then I feel bloated for two or more hours. Can I cheat food with anything? Something that will give me energy.

Hey everyone. I was wondering what all you were eating? I find myself eating a lot of eggs, turkey sausage, and taco meat with cheese on it, chicken and so on. Sometimes potatoes. Are these things okay? I get so worried because I just want to get to my goal. I am not sure about this feeling I've been having I am just unsure. Thank you so much.

So this is weird, not sure if anyone else has gone through this but it's gotten to the point of when I eat and I chew and chew and chew that the taste and texture is so off putting that I don't even want to swallow the food, most of the time I will just spit it out because I can't make myself swallow it.

Anyone else not able to drink for hours after eating soft or solid foods? I get sick and nauseous if I drink anything before that time period is up. In order to get my fluids in I find myself drinking a liter of water in the morning before I eat. Then won't eat anything after about 3pm except a protein shake. I then finish off the night drinking water. I'm six weeks post op. HW-292 • SW (6/29/17) 256.6 • CW 231.8

Having a tough day today: It started this morning with cake at the group meeting for a work anniversary (so I left early). THEN... I walked into my office area and there was a whole box of doughnuts on the counter outside my office door... Walked right past them. THEN... After I got back from my lunch-time workout my office-mates were eating McD's and it smelled soooooo good!!! Combined with having to not order something at the McD's drive-through while with a different co-worker yesterday: Aaaaarrrrrghh! I feel like I'm losing my grip. So, do any of you have suggestions for weathering these weak moments? Many thanks!

Hi; I have not read about this topic on here and so I thought I would share my latest health issue. I found this article on it and thought others might find it interesting because it does happen to WLS patients more then you think! What is reactive hypoglycemia? After bariatric surgery you may experience reactive hypoglycemia: • Hypoglycemia means low blood sugar • Reactive hypoglycemia is having low blood sugar after eating a meal or snack This may happen after eating foods that are high in sugar or simple carbohydrates. It is thought to be related to dumping syndrome. How do I know if I have reactive hypoglycemia? You have reactive hypoglycemia if you hav…

Hi friends, I'm 23 days post op, and started softs 2 days ago. I don't feel I have received a lot of guidance from my dr's on portion sizes at this stage. They told me to consume between 80-100g of protein per day, have 2 shakes a day, and that I'd probably only be able to eat between 6-8 bites per meal, maybe "half of that if eating dense protein". Well, I can easily eat 2oz of lean protein and 2 oz of something else (cheese, mashed sweet potato, whatever). I see here people having a hard time eating 1/4 C of food and it makes me worried that I'm eating too much. Is it that I'm measuring by weight and folks are measuring by volume? Is there a better portion size by weig…

So i have always been a lover of smoothies and milkshakes, they were always my guilty pleasure. But i got sick of basic super boring protein shakes. And for some reason premier protein doesn't blend well for a smoothie either. So this is what i found.... (I realize now after writing this that there's a recipe sharing section, so screw it lol) 1) i'm in love with starbucks caramel frappuccinos and macchiatos. Anything caramel coffee flavor i'm seriously obsessed with.... so i discovered this -scoop of syntrax latte caramel macchiatto with fair life fat free milk (it is lactose free). You can add a tbs of international delight sugar free caramel macchiato creamer to it if n…

Hey all, I can't stand store bought broth so I have always made my own at home. I usually just count it as the same nutritional value as store broth, but I've recently started to do this really concentrated broth that I know has a much higher protein content. Here's how it's made: How should I count that towards my protein totals?

So I had my RNY 6 months ago, lost 47kg so far and I feel great. I still want to loose 20 more kg, but it's starting to get harder to loose the weight. I was adviced to not count calories, just eat healthy and stop when I feel full and that has worked so far. But I have been around the same weight for the last month. So I wanne start tracking my food, just to see if I'm eating enough protein, not to much carbs and so on. I logged in to MFP and want to update the food goals (calories, protein, fat, carbs) and would like to get some advice. I found some guidelines on the internet but they aren't specific for people with weight loss surgery so... So what macros are you guys …

Hi guys, probably a silly question, but one of the hardest things for me to do is to not eat and drink at the same time. It just feels so natural to sip a drink during meal times. Since I have had the Overstitch I absolutely do not eat and drink at the same time but I hate it and find it very difficult. Especially in social settings or at a restaurant with friends when I would normally have a wine course or matched wines with my meal. Anyway my question is, I thought I'd order soup at a restaurant the other day, no entree no dessert just a soup for mains. When the soup arrived it was obviously liquid, but there were pieces of fish / vegetables in the soup as one…

Anyone try cooking meat in a crock pot for the "soft foods" phase of the diet? I'll be on full liquids for another week, but thinking ahead to give myself as many options as possible. For my program, foods don't have to be pureed if you chew really well. I'm just really looking forward to chewing again and I've always been a slow eater, so I don't think this will be a problem!

My first meal! Refried beans watered down with vegetable broth and spiced with garlic, onion, and chili powder, and a soft-scrambled egg. I'm obviously not going to eat the whole thing. If I only get to eat a bit, I get to eat the best!

I was sleeved on 6/27/17. I am supposed to be on the pureed stage of food, but I just can't tolerate it. My stomach hurts and I want to vomit. Is this normal? I drink 2 protein shakes a day and I drink a liquid protein as well as other drinks. I am down 30 lbs, but I feel dizzy and listless. Am I doing something wrong?

So I got my sleeve surgery *yay* on July 18th. My surgeon has me on a liquid diet for 21 days, so until Tuesday. I was first allowed Ensure/Glucerna the first 3 days and then I moved onto being allowed broth, jello, & natural fruit juices as well. The whole time, I was super concerned because Ensure has a lot of carbs & sugars, and very little protein. When I went for my 1 week post op, I asked him about this and he said to trust him basically (Might I add that my mom who knows nothing about macros/micros kept talking over him) So I was doing pretty fine on the shakes. I would alternate between Ensure & broth. I did have watermelon juice (remember, all allowed…

I'd love to hear from those who've been there. For my program, the "high protein soft diet" is followed from 2 weeks after surgery until the 6 week follow up appointment. The rationale for the diet is that the stomach is still irritable and healing, so we're taking it easy on the poor thing. What were your "go to" recipes during this time? What were the worst things you tried to eat - either due to taste, texture, or digestive upset? I love spicy food. Did y'all avoid it completely? Thanks!

So I'm 2 weeks post-op and finally allowed to try some soft eggs and puréed food. Tried making egg white egg beaters with no fat cheddar cheese. Measured out to 4 ounces. Cooked it up. THOUGHT I was eating slow and taking small bites... then all of a sudden I got a bad pain in the middle of my chest and felt like I was going to throw up. It was the worst feeling. What the hell did I do wrong?? Now I'm scared to try and eat again!! LOL. What do I do? -Joe

Have you guys ever tried either and did it work for you post op? What are your thoughts? So for those of you who are unfamiliar with each, here's how it works: Keto-great for dropping **** loads of weight. Diet tends to be more fun because it allows you to eat yummy foods like bacon. You still have to watch your macros. But basically your diet consists mostly of protein and fat (yes i said fat) and no sugar or carbs. So it forces your body to use fat as energy, thus causing you to burn calories and fat like crazy. Paleo- more of a lifestyle change so you will be healthier overall and still lose weight but not as dramatic for weight loss. Diet is also low carb and high pr…

Hi guys. I'm almost 2 years post sleeve. I've been hearing a lot about ketogenic diets and know people who have had great weight loss success. I've been thinking about trying it as I have about 20 lbs more that I would like to loose. However it seems like it's a low protein diet and protein protein protein has been drilled into me so hard I'm not sure if this is a good diet for post op folks. Is anyone on this diet, any advise?

So I was looking into nutrition tips and diets I could ease into to help me get past my latest/current stall and I came across this video on YouTube. Longevity & Why I now eat One Meal a Day It talks about fasting and eating just once a day forcing the body to a state of Ketosis. What is Ketosis you might ask, well "Ketosis is a normal metabolic process. When the body does not have enough glucose for energy, it burns stored fats instead; this results in a build-up of acids called ketones within the body. Some people encourage Ketosis by following a diet called the Ketogenic or low-carb diet." Some of the information talked about in the video below made some sense t…

Hey everyone, I just had my sleeve almost 2 weeks ago. My doctor had me do a 10 day pre op diet that consisted of protein shake or protein bar for breakfast and lunch then, dinner 3oz of meat and some veggies for dinner. I ended up drinking a ton of protein shakes and soups. Post op, I am struggling to get through with my full liquids diet. I tried different brands but the smell makes me gag, I am so over it. I am eating soups, fat free yogurts, water, Powerade zeros and I find that i'm getting tired of that. I am getting frustrated with the process because now, I find myself feeling hungry when I wasn't feeling hungry right after surgery until about this past Monday…

Do you have a favorite tasteless protein powder that you sprinkle on food? There are too many to choose from and I want something that will not change consistency or taste, and mixes well. I am 4 weeks post-op and I drink 1 premier shake per day, but want to add a little extra protein.

Okay, so we all probably started off with a similar WLS diet post-op. It started with the liquid diet, then moved to pureed foods, semi-soft foods, and solid foods. The focus in each phase was on Protein, plus getting fluids and making healthy choices like eating veggies and choosing whole instead of refined grains. But there’s plenty of room to customize a diet beyond eggs for Breakfast, tuna for lunch, and chicken for dinner. Plus, I know a lot of WLS patients turn to (or stay on) vegetarian, vegan, Paleo, or other special diets. Do you follow a special diet beyond the high-protein, low-calorie WLS diet? Do you go low-carb, or gluten-free, or organic, or anything else…

As a mid thirties bloke who was a 90% deep fried carnivore before VSG, I gotta give it credit; this food is really worth giving a second chance. Before my VSG I'd never go near the stuff, I mean lets face it, it's not exactly appetizing to look at. Three weeks post VSG now and now it's like crack cocaine to me. Mix it with some yoghurt, salsa, spices (cumin, cayenne, paprika, oregano) and some good quality chicken stock to thin it out and dinner is served in under two minutes. I've read about others mixing with sour cream and cheese and such, but personally I'm happy with good old plain yogurt. Makes me wonder, what other foods have people foun…
