What are some go to snacks and foods in general you guys like?

I am getting things together for my trip to Mexico. I will be staying a few days in San Diego before heading home. I've packed some peppermint tea bags in case of nausea, but wondering if I can use my pink packets of sweet and low or saccharin? I've read about a lot of artificial sweetners after surgery but can't find anything on Saccharin? Anyone still use this??

  6. Sleeved October 17 2017 Age: 19 HW: 297 CW: 246 Alittle over two and a half months post op. I’m having a hard time figuring out how often to eat, how much, and what my calorie intake should be. Right now I’m kinda just eating when I remember to and eating to get energy. I burn about 500-700 calories from cardio at the gym and I’m trying to go everyday. I need some help and advice

  7. Hey y'all, for those of you far enough out post surgery, do you find any issues with eating cooked/sauteed greens or greens in stews and such? (i.e. kale, swiss chard, collard greens, turnips greens, mustard greens, spinach, bok choy, cabbage, etc) Do you find that you have to chop them up more? Or can you digest a soup that has a handful or two of baby spinach or rough chopped swiss chard or kale thrown into it? Trying to understand if the leafy greens get stuck in your new pouch or sleeve! TIA!

  8. Started by sleeved2win,

I'm usually not a big fan of frozen, processed food, but when the family is ordering take out or pizza, or if you're in a pinch for lunch, it's nice to have a quick easy option. I recently found Healthy Choice Simply Steamers without rice or pasta, and they had way less carbs and reasonable amounts of sodium compared to other packaged foods. These also taste really good. High protein, low carb, packed with protein and veggies. And I can only eat half (sometimes less) per sitting so they are good for two meals!

  9. Started by Honeybee17,

I am about 10 months post op and have lost about 60 lbs, which includes some weight gained back. I am starting back to the gym which got derailed due to a big out of state move, new jobs, etc. I need to get back on track as I can tell a difference in energy level and don't want my health to start suffering again. Did anyone have this happen to them? What did you do to get back on track? Any advice would be appreciated! Please no lectures... I'm human, after all.

  11. Hi, I am post-op RNY 2/7/18 and determined to get my protein in so I have tried to be creative for Phase 1 of my full-liquid diet. This is just me wanting to share for anyone wanting to try it out. I am not a fan of the protein shakes. I have yet to make decaf with protein premier. #1- Protein Creamy Jell-O 8oz vanilla Premier Protein shake 8oz Fairlife Milk 4oz water 2.5 tbsp of plain gelatine Warm 4oz of water and mix jell-o packs add to the milks and divide into 2oz cups. Let sit in fridge for 1 hour. Mixture makes 12 x 2oz cups. Each one should total to about 2.9 grams of protein per 2oz cup. They are good. Remember to mix really well in water before addin…

I will be going into surgery in 5 days! [emoji51] looking to see if anyone can tell me what they ate on the puréed part of the eating? What you ate and puréed! Thank you!

  14. Started by Maggie1955,

I just had surgery on 1/2/18 and don’t have my post surgery follow up until Friday. I will certainly ask this question at that time, but I am just wondering whether veteran sleevers have ever been given a definitive maximum amount of sugar grams they can have per day. I know that early on it is really preferred to use a sugar substitute and I am following that rule (i.e., using Splenda in hot tea, etc.), but I want to be cognizant of what I’m putting into my (new and improved) body in the future. Thank you.

Hello everyone I had the RNY surgery on 1/30 and will be returning to work soon. I have always been horrible with meal planning and prep. Any advice materials or articles I could read would be greatly appreciated. I want to work my hardest to make this a success.

Hello again, My surgery is 9 days away and amongst other things, I am wondering about drinking coffee or espresso after my surgery. I know it's a diuretic so is bad for staying hydrated especially until I have mastered that. Knowing this, I currently drink 2 cups of coffee per day plus a quad espresso on average and have for years. What was your experience with drinking coffee and or expresso after your surgery? How long after surgery did you wait for your first caffeine / coffee? How has your coffee intake changed and what is it like now? Curious minds want to know. Thanks!

  21. I asked him to help plan something for Valentine's as I wanted him to be able to pick something he'd enjoy... so he picked a (not cheap!) restaurant that is only offering a prix fixe menu that evening... 5 courses and half a bottle of wine. I'm not a fancy people :x I've never done any kind of prix fixe menu. I know for sure I can't eat 5 courses and half a bottle of wine!! They don't have the menu for the night posted either, just that it's 5 courses. Will it be weird if I take like a single bite of each course and ask for a doggy bag for everything else? Eat just the first course and ask for the rest bagged? Will they even let me do that??? Is that a waste of money…

Can anyone suggest a good, nutrionally complete protein shake / powder with no sucralose / splenda? I was unable to find anything on the forums; found a few options via Google, but figured I'd reach out to the community. I recently realized splenda does not agree with my GI, even in small doses. Thanks for any feedback, y'all!

I’m 2.5 months out of my surgery and have been doing very well with my diet (with a slight struggle with my proteins) but I came to visit my best friend and have been really struggling with my food intake. Sweets (which is my first time since, I live for sugar free popsicles at home), and all around not such great food choices here in San Diego. Any help would be appreciated!!

  25. Hello. I’ve had some success on keto and Atkins type diets in the past and I am curious how they work post op and more than a little nervous to start it up again now since they are basically higher fat and my past probs there...plus I’m only two months + post op. Lil backstory- I had my gallbladder taken out 11/2016 and a year later my body still hasn’t made up its mind on how to process fats (mainly dairy, meat based fats are tolerable) Some days I can totally tolerate minimal dairy (like in my morning coffee or some meat wrapped cheese/pickle meals). Other days I take one sip of my AM coffee and I bolt straight to the bathroom & for the rest of the day- this is low…

Hey all, I am currently just over 3 months post op and am really struggling with not eating 30 min before and after I eat. I never used to drink when i was eating and now I can't seem to eat without dying for a drink of water. I know it flushes the food faster through your body and you miss nutrients so I try hard not to drink. Has anyone come across this problem as well?

Hey ya'll. I am almost 3 weeks post op and been eating a lot of stuff! Stuff that im not even suppose to eat. Like a veggie burrito and wine/cocktails and cookies. Of course I took small bites of the burrito and i kept putting it back in the fridge so it took me about a day to eat it, but i ate it. It had chopped up tomatoes and raw onions. I feel fine though. But feel kinda guilty about it. I can drink a ton of water so im hitting water goal and i drink wine slowly. I followed the surgeon's diet plan perfectly for the first 2 weeks then just kinda started eating and drinking whatever i wanted. I am careful not to get too full and to chew very thoroughly. I'm 10 days post op today and I'm having trouble getting in all of my protein and water for the day. My doctor didn't give me a minimum caloric intake at this point but said i should have about 3 oz per meal. According to my doctor I can start soft solids today. I'm getting in roughly 200 calories/day and around 30 grams of protein and about 24-30 ounces of water. I'm afraid that I won't be losing weight well, if I don't up my protein/ calorie/ water but I'm very very afraid not to stretch my pouch. So here's my question how many calories should I eat at this point? And should I keep eating to get in enough protein even if I'm not hungry? I would apprecia…

I have a question, I'm about 9 weeks out and I'm wondering if I can have any carbs at all with a meal? I found some low carb soft tortilla that would be great to use as buns for a turkey sandwich. They only have 5 net carbs and with as little as I eat i would only have about a 1/3 of it anyways. I just feel guilty thinking about eating it though. Anyone have any thoughts?

I am still pre surg at this point, it seems after my RnY I will save money by no fast foods, colas and sodas are large portions groceries and foods, will it be enough to offset the costs of vitamins, fresher and healthier foods, protein drinks etc? What have you veterans found, doesn't matter in the long run, I'm still going forward with my surgery plans but maybe I'll need to,plant a garden this spring? Hey y'all! So I fell off the band-wagon (pun intended) and bellied up to the holiday binge-fest which was filled with gravy-butter-and-chocolate-laden foods. Easy sliders that go straight through the band. I gained 13 pounds. I refuse to update my ticker to indicate this because I'm gonna lose that weight again, dammit. I decided to join Weight Watchers and I really like the plan. I've been struggling with food choices and ideas for meals, snacks, etc. and I really like their recipes. You can modify them to add or reduce points as you like. The hardest part so far is the fact that it's lower fat than I'm used to. I'm okay with reducing sugar but eating plenty of heal…

I’m headed on vacation to Disneyworld in 2 days. I’m almost 6 weeks post op. Just wondering if people could give me some recommendations of foods to eat since I’ll be on the go so much. Or if you’ve been to Disneyworld and you know of good places to get healthy choices let me know. I typically stick to chicken. Seafood has always made me sick and now after surgery I seem to have more of a sensitivity to it. But I want to make sure I’m getting enough protein. I’m really bad about getting enough calories in so I really need to work on it. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

  38. Those of you who are post-op, what are the kitchen gadgets/utensils you've found most helpful? I want to make sure my kitchen is ready before my surgery in ~6 weeks. So far, I've got measuring cups/spoons, mini strainers, silicone ice cube trays (for broth and yogurt and such), and small containers for taking lunch to work. As for bigger items, I also have a food processor, blender, immersion blender, and crock pots.

OK guys!!!! I started Keto 2 weeks ago and would love to have a forum of just Fellow Ketoers!! We can trade recipes, stories, question, concerns etc. Keto stuff is all over the internet...but nothing about doing it after WLS. I use My Fitness Pal to track all food/drink, calories, carbs, fats. I currently stay until 12g carbs per day, 60g Proteinand 27g fat. I use Ketostix every morning to make sure I stay in Ketosis ( usually a 4) but I don't feel I'm losing quick enough. What is your experience so far with Keto and your daily intake of foods? It's just so hard for me to get in enough calories and protein.

  41. *POOP POST SO YOUVE BEEN WARNED* Sleeved 10/17/17 Age: 19 HW: 297 CW: 246 So my bathroom trips have been weird for weeks now. Some days I’ll have diarrhea and sometimes I’m constipated for days. I have a problem with water retention and that along with constipation I’m bloated a lot and uncomfortable. Saw this on amazon and I’m wondering if it’s safe to take? I’ve tried everything for constipation and it either doesn’t agree with me or i get uncontrollable diarrhea for days and after awhile it’s painful and don’t wanna deal with it. Anyone familiar with this?

Hello all, I am 3 months post-op. I had VSG surgery on 10-11-2017....my highest weight was 330 SW 295 CW 259 GW 165....Now, I am getting frustrated because I can't eat over 2 oz per meal. Last month I was able to eat a little more, but now I can't. It's hard getting in 60gms of protein in per day. I can't even get 50 oz of water down. In some aspects, I'm glad I can't get much down, but my concern is loss of muscle and hair. I take all my vitamins; muti, B complex, fish oil, calcium, and iron. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also, I have no energy to work out now. I was going to the gym 3 days a week and walking the other days...Now, in the past 2 weeks…

I will be 2 years out from Gastic Sleeve on 4/12/18 and I have only gained about 5 pounds, but never hit my goal weight. I struggle with what to eat? How much? Protein ideas? etc. I really want to get to my goal, but I just don't know what to do anymore. The protein shakes I was drinking before and right after surgery, make me sick now just to try and drink one. I don't eat breakfast because I do not know what to eat and I am on a very, very tight budget as a single mom. Any suggestions?

  48. Started by bslinlj,

I have recently found an ice cream bar that is loaded with protein (14 grams), low fat and only 3 grams of sugar. I've not seen any negative side effects when I've eaten them, but I was just wondering if anyone else had tried this brand and what thoughts they had. I almost feel like they are too good to be true!

  49. Started by Paityn,

Are those a thing? Soft chewy protein bars? I’ve only ever had the crunchy ones. I’m in the soft phase and I leave for Disneyworld in 2 weeks and wants something easy and high in protein to eat on the go if need be. Looking for recommendations.

Question for those following the Keto Diet. I'm curious as to how much fat you consume. I'm getting in roughly 600 to 800 calories a day, 19 to 25 carbs, 75+ Protein, and roughly 30 grams of fat. I've had some say that's too much, and others tell me it's way too low. Any thoughts/advice? Please and thank you. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
