Hi! I'm having my lap-band removed September 13th and once healed I will have the sleeve done. I have been banded for 10 years and I am so nervous. I am nervous that a million things could go wrong and that I might not be able to get the sleeve. My surgeon told me that it would be a two step process so I know its not going to get done in the same day but I am just so worried I would be able to get another bariatric surgery. Before I was banded I weighed 295. My lowest weight with the band was 164. Last Summer I started having issues where my food was getting backed up in my esophagus and making me vomit. My band can no longer take fills. I actually gain weight still with …

Hey, does anybody want to share their non-food rewards? I hit 60 lbs down today and I'm going to take a long lunch break from work and go see Night School. I've also just scheduled a massage and facial. Whee! Anybody else? I'd love to build a list of non-food rewards that we can turn to when we deserve a treat but cheesecake is NOT it! xo Ally

Good Morning All, I wanted to stop by and give an update. I am halfway through my 2 week liquid diet. My surgery is scheduled for Next Thursday the 8th. Just some things i noticed during the last week that has helped and just wanted to share. I would totally recommend keeping a journal of how each day goes and keeping track of what you are consuming daily. ( Doing this- also notate BM's as i have heard constipation will set in-so you can track if you need medicine before it gets too far) I would also recommend using the broth as your lunch and dinner along with a shake a little while later. This has helped me tremendously with sanity and keeping me from fe…

Good morning Beautiful People! I was wondering how many ladies on here had surgery and had PCOS? I've been trying to conceive for 10 years now. My GYN told me my fertility should shoot up 10 fold (what 10 times nothing? lol) so my hubby and I should be careful. My main reason for having this surgery was to get healthy enough so that I could finally conceive. We're holding for for 12-18 months depending on my weight loss. We just bought a brand new 5 bedroom house. Praying I can turn one of these rooms into a nursery next year. Would love to hear your journeys!

So I had a terrible few days eating and gained a few pounds and needed to reset both my head and my pouch. So today, I started all liquids again. 3 protein shakes for the 3 meals of the day and then just flavored water in between. Has anyone done a sleeve reset or gone back to liquids for a bit to refocus? If so, how long did you do it? Thanks!

Recently I got a new puppy and stopped going to the gym so I could do resistance band training at home with pup. I found myself not working out hardly at all and noticed muscles getting smaller and smaller. Even though I am at goal I still have more fat to lose and need to rebuild my muscles that have shrunk. I read somewhere that if you don't work the muscles the body will consume muscles before consuming the last fat. I believe I need to start lifting heavy to tear and rebuild muscle. Anyone experience this or have advice to offer?

Hello again! Sorry for all these questions but I just have so many things to ask the long term vsg patients out there. I woke up in the middle of the night to this weird full feeling like there was too much water in my stomach- which there probably was as I took a few sips before bed (which was what I'd normally do pre-surgery as I sometimes wake up thirsty) - but I woke up wanting to throw up and just not feeling good and I wasn't sure what to do. I'm still sleeping on several pillows so I'm not fully on my back ( the stitches hurt less this way) but do you guys have tips on some bedtime routines? should I sleep with more of an incline? How long do yo…

Hello! 5th day after surgery but only my second day on clear liquids as I had a lot of complications after surgery - it was rough, I have to be honest. My doctor gave me the goal of at least 40 ounces of liquids to start and I'm slowly trying to get through it but is it normal to always feel full and bloated? Even just on clear liquids? I'm currently drink broth, juice and water for now (mixed with some medication) and will start on full liquids (shakes and soups) soon but just wanted to ask if this full feeling eventually goes away? or do you feel this all day? or is it because my stomach is still swollen and healing? Even if I'm not drinking I still fe…

hey guys, so i'm feeling really bummed out right now. for the past 5 months i've been really excited to go through with the surgery. i'm now having second thoughts. i don't want to let everyone down that i've told i was getting it but i also don't want to be unhappy and depressed post-surgery. i feel like such a disappointment not only to myself but to my family and friends. they were all so happy and proud of me for doing it, but honestly i don't know if i'm ready right now. i'm only 24 and i do want to lose weight, i've already started eating healthy the past few weeks and lost 10 lbs on my own. i'm just not ready to give up all of these things like caffeine, nicot…

Hey guys, So first a quick update - Just celebrated my 10 month surgiversary on Saturday and made my 1st weight goal, which was 140. Currently at 139.7 and probably aiming for 135 before settling down into maintenance mode - yes I could aim lower at my height, but don't love the sagging skin that is starting & won't likely be able to have any cosmetic surgery. Plus, given my health issues, I feel - and my docs agree - that this is a realistic goal to maintain. Can't believe this time last year I was scheduling my surgery and taking out a loan and researching, researching, researching! Seems so long ago and also that it has flown by at the same time ; ) Have…

Right now I am using Ideal Shape meal replacement shakes. They have 11-13 gr of protein depending on flavor. I use that with the Fairlife skim milk that has an additional 13 gr of protein for my breakfast. I'm not one to add fruit to the shakes, since it makes them too thick for me. I just don't like the texture. So someone at work suggested maybe making my vanilla shake and adding in a flavored protein drink (like the banana or strawberry & cream premier protein drinks) Is it ok to add two protein drinks together? Or how else can I add flavor to my vanilla shakes?

Just short of a few days from 5 months since my VSG surgery. So far I have lost 55 lbs. To be honest with you I could have lost more than this by now but my commitment level to exercise and to eating what I should not has not been as it should. I am not ungrateful for loosing 55 lbs, dont get me wrong, but I know i have also eaten crap that if i did not do that I would be at a better weight loss bracket. You really have to be fully committed BEFORE you start this surgery and I only realize it now. I had some misconceptions about the surgery and thought that it would 'carry' me more without the level of personal responsibility and commitment it actually takes. I thought th…

I haven't really lost in 3 months (I lost; gained it back, lost it again- and I'm in the same exact place I was 3 months ago. What's different is that I'm snacking. And I'm not good snacking. I'm craving cakes and cookies and the bane of my scale- crackers any time anything feels a little overwhelming or stressful. Willpower is a wonderful thing - It's failing me though and I'm giving in often. Even still, I'm not exceeding about 12-1400 calories per day. I can think of no other reason for stall. I'm 5'4". Starting 270; 265 surgery day, 180 today. I still have about 45 lbs to lose. So- what's your go to method of dealing with head hunger, stress eating…

I am almost 4 months since VSG and all of a sudden it seems my hair loss is accelerating. I find it quite scary actually since I already have fine hair. I do the Biotin and special shampoo and conditioner for hair loss but...….its not stopping it. Started to use a comb instead of a brush hoping it would help stop pulling out the hair. Sigh...... I have been stuck at 53 lbs weight loss and it aint going any further. Now I have to 'work' for it...…...can't be lazy anymore Took some cute photos today with my animals

Hey guys, so I’m scheduled for nov 7. I’m a mom of two beautiful, energetic girls one is 6 and one is going to be 2. I’m having my worries of course about the surgery my biggest concern are my babies. I need this for me but I’m feeling a little selfish because I know they need me too. Just wanted to hear advice and other mommies that have been in this position, how was it, recovering and attending to them and everything in between.

I need to be on a 3 different types of psych medications that cause weight gain! I didn't want to take them, but my sanity and health depends on them and I was taking one of them before surgery. I have asked for similar medications that don't have the weight gain side effect and it seems like there are none that would take care of my symptoms. So I've been taking these. As a result, my weight loss has been very slow and compared to others minimal! I am at 13 months post op and have already gained 6 lbs after starting my last medication which was a month ago! Now, I'm not saying I have been perfect, but I don't think I've ate so bad as to have gained 6 lbs…

I'm only a few days from getting a sleeve and honestly it can't come fast enough (plus missing work sounds great which I never do) I've been really enjoying reading peoples experiences on here, more than I thought I would. Does anyone have any reading material related to post-op that they'd recommend? Books, blogs, articles etc. I also am a minority it seems because bc I'm 25 years old, bmi 30 and 6'1, so if anyone has similar stats I would love to hear about your process.

Hi All, Any encouragement and advise would be welcomed. I am scheduled to have the sleeve on Monday 10/29 and my case is still being approved by the insurance company. I believe I have met all the requirements but I've heard that the insurance may still fight it. I think the hardest mental part is that I have been on the liquid only diet for 3 days now and it is soooo hard. What is the point of being on the ultra-strict diet if I am not approved. It just makes me feel like spending the day at a buffet. Ok, maybe thats a bit extreme, I'm a bit testy from the diet. So, the diet is hard enough, and thinking I am doing it for nothing, just for now, is even more of a ment…

Haven't figured out the trigger but in the meantime I need to find something to address the symptom. Pepto Bismol was my go-to before surgery but it doesn't seem to help now. Any recommendations?

I’m almost two weeks post op and I just cannot tolerate the protein shakes. The past few days my stomach has not been happy. This morning I tried a clear protein drink from Premier Protein. It has whey protein in it but no other dairy. I drank it no problem and had no gas and was not running to the bathroom. Then in the afternoon I tried a plant based protein powder with milk and within a few minutes of starting it my stomach was gurgling! Any suggestions on what I can add to a powdered protein shake that’s not milk?

I'm 10 weeks out from sleeve surgery. I've noticed lately that I seem to have a "delay" when I swallow liquids. I don't notice it as much (or at all, really) with solids. It's like - I swallow, then I feel it sit for ~2 seconds in my throat, then I feel it move down into my stomach. It's more noticeable with really cold things because I can feel the cold liquid moving down. Anybody else have this? It doesn't really bother me, and I don't have any other symptoms (reflux, choking/aspirating, etc) so I'm not really worried about it. Maybe a hiatal hernia? It's just weird and different!

Hello all. Thought I would check in since tomorrow is my 6 month surgeiverary. I am down 91 pounds since surgery, 165 from my all time high. As you can see loose skin abounds. I am not at peace with any of my body changes yet, but I am at least happy to report that my GERD is getting less severe, even if it is just a minor improvement, it is still welcomed. I am a size 12 up top for most things, size 14 or 16 on bottom depending on the cut. Boobs 40H-->36G. Still have 37 pounds to go but feeling like I might actually make it. My before picture is actually a few days after surgery. My three year old swiped my phone and I found this pic later. It is my only r…

I’m ab three weeks out and I’m having a hard time. I’m tired all the time, it’s hard to eat anything! I feel like most things sit in my tummy for hours ! I randomly woke up Sunday and couldn’t keep a thing down not even water. Speaking of water... I’m SO THIRSTY!!! The small sips aren’t doing anything and after a few sips I’m feeling a “sick feeling”. Before surgery I drank a lot of sparkling water which I know I can’t have. All I wanna do is use a straw and guzzle down some ice cold water but I can’t and I’m so frustrated! Regretting this at this point.. even though I’m 37!lbs. is it worth it if I’m feeling like the walking dead? Sorry for the rant I’ve just had it

Sleeved on 8/22. Down 44lbs. Been stalled for two weeks due to getting sick and eating what made me feel better. Mainly saltines. Back to eating what im supposed to again but I feel like I'm eating too much but when I track it it feels like almost nothing. Still don't feel like reaching my goal could actually happen. Like this is all a dream and I'm kidding myself if I will ever get under 200lbs. Anyone else ever feel like this? What happened to you?

I just realized that I’ve been tracking my weight in MyFitnessPal since 2012 and I’ve never been below 274.4...until now. I’m now 270.2 which is probably the lowest weight I’ve seen in 8 or 9 years. I’m only 3 1/2 weeks or so post op but the difference is already amazing. My feet have shrunk my thighs have shrunk...pretty much everything except my butt (which hubby is fine with). I’m so happy I did this! Already planning how to eat on business travel/meetings when I go back to work next week. I feel like a new woman. If anyone reading this is considering this surgery and having doubts...just do it. It was the most difficult (2 years of doubting) yet rewarding decision eve…
