I am having the vertical sleeve surgery in less than a month, and one of the things that I am really concerned about is the hair loss. Does anyone have any recommendations for products or supplements that really worked for them? I would like to start taking something now so that I am getting ahead of the problem.

I know that antibiotics can be difficult on the stomach lining. I'm wondering for those who are sleeved has this ever been a problem when they've had issues such as respiratory infections, flu, or other surgeries that require antibiotics?

I was sleeved September 4th and @ 425lbs, I’m currently I’m at 330. I’ve experienced a few plateaus for like a week and then it falls off. I’ve been at 330 for about 3 weeks now. Any advice or is this normal? Any advice on how to get out of the plateau? Thanks in advance :)

Hi - I had gastric sleeve surgery approximately 2 weeks ago. I did very well after surgery, no complications, no pain. I have been tolerating clear fluids well; however, the past several days I have been very nauseated to the point that I can't really stand to drink protein shakes or anything else. I can tolerate the shakes and even some yogurt, but the thought of food repulses and nauseates me. I have not experienced vomiting, just nausea. Did anyone else experience this? All I read is how everyone else is doing great...is this just my experience?? Zofran is not helping with the nausea.

Hello I'm new to this and have some concerned. My initial appointment with the doctor - he sort of hesitated a bit when he read I had pyloric stenosis and then continued on with the rest of his lecture. I never questioned him on that hesitation but I am curious if anyone else has had a Gastric Sleeve and had pyloric stenosis/Pyloromyotomy as an infant?

I finally got a surgery date, after extreme stress for the past few years. My mom passed away on Mother's Day and I flew in from out of state just in time to be with her. We had a very rough past few years losing both of my brothers, one to cancer and one quite suddenly. This threw my mom into a deep depression and dementia that got progressively worse. Trying to deal with it from another state was very hard and she didn't want any help. I got through losing my younger brother but my older brother really crushed me. I have no other siblings. Now, my husband has prostate cancer that spread to his pelvic bone. Our lives have changed forever. As long as the meds the…

  11. Is anyone in the Indianapolis area interested in forming a meetup group? I know I am going to need support through this journey while my loved ones continue to shovel donuts and steaks and everything they want down their throats while I sit and watch hahaha. You can explain all you can to your friends and family but they won't truly understand what you are going through. I would be very interested in this and would be willing to start the group and even being the mediator as far as facilitating meeting dates and locations and such.

At long last! I have been getting ready for it since April. Now I start panicking. My first surgery at age 62. Need some hugs please.

  14. Wow from April until now but I'm finally there! 12/19/18 I get my sleeve and my 2nd chance at a healthy life!

  15. Overall, I feel much better than I did the day before my surgery. Energy level-- has increased but I have had sciatic pain even before surgery so I am not able to do as much exercise as I would like. I try to do as much as I can when I am able. I work in a doctor's office so I am on my feet a lot so by the time I get home I am wiped. Though not as wiped as three months ago Food Intake--I have had hardly any issues with food. I progressed as I was told to do and am now pretty much eating whatever I want. Obviously, the type and amount of foods have changed but I still treat myself every now and then with some Chex Mix and a few Hershey's miniatures. The ho…

I had my surgery done at a private hospital that only does Bariatric Surgery. There are several surgeons and nutritionists. The care is intrigrated from start to finish. My plan from my nutritionist is a very simple framework. Eat 3 meals, 2 snacks, 2 hours apart. Eat these foods, don’t eat these foods. Drink X water, Get X protein, don’t exceed X fat per day (not low fat). No calorie counting. I’m not looking to compare but I am truly interested in how everyone is going about their eating plan. What has your nutritionist advised you to do? Is it helping you build lifelong, sustainable habits? ⭐️⭐️PLEASE leave all judgement of others eating plans out of…

Hi all! I am about two years out from my sleeve and I am finding that I still have trouble with eggs. Prior to surgery I had scrambled eggs frequently for breakfast, but since the surgery they sit like a rock on my new stomach and I can’t even finish one egg usually. They would really help meet my daily protein goal if I could have them more frequently. I’ve tried scrambled, boiled and over hard. Anyone have a suggestion for making eggs work better post-sleeve?

My dr didn’t tell me,but I keep hearing everyone recommended 6 weeks. Problem is I don’t have energy or the will power to go workout /power walk without any caffeine .

In 2 days i will be 2 weeks out, and moving into the soft food stage! Yay! I HAVE been feeling hunger alot! And I am so sick of sweets! Jello, premier shakes, popsicles etc.. I never craved a scrambled egg with spinach and cottage cheese before, and now it's all I can think about! What is your "first meal" going to be?

  21. Started by KT1981,

I genuinely have no idea what I'm experiencing. I'm on Prilosec (prescription) for 6 months, so I'm assuming it's hunger?? But I've just had the sleeve (4.5 weeks post-op) so shouldn't I not be dealing with this much hunger? It's a lot. I feel this "hunger" for 30 minutes to 2 hours every day. Not in a row, just combined throughout the day. It feels hot (but not like the burn of acid) and is squarely where my stomach should be. It doesn't rise into my chest/throat. It feels like my stomach wants to rumble (like out of hunger) but I don't think it ever actually has. How do I know the difference? I am 4.5 weeks out from VSG and told to take in 300 to 400 calories…

I am 4.5 months out from gastric sleeve surgery and have lost 40 lbs so far, in a weight stall for about 2 months and I am ALWAYS hungry. I try to control myself by drinking water but I don't know what else to do. I've been to the doctor who thought I might have an ulcer but an endoscopy showed no ulcer. Any suggestions to get my weight loss going again and stopping this neverending feelings of being hungry.

I had the gastric sleeve surgery on May 7th. Before surgery I liked to drink wine several times a week. Usually white, sometimes red. After surgery, didn't touch alcohol for 8 weeks. But tonight I've had 3 glasses of white wine. It's only 3 carbs per 5 oz. and around 100 calories. I ate protein for every meal and didn't snack at all. My total calories for the day including the wine are 700. Can someone explain to me why this would be considered "bad"? I'm not looking for judgement on the wine, just truly curious as to why alcohol is considered a bad thing.

Hello Ya'll I am at the end of my 6 month requirement for surgery. My last appt is at the end of this month. I am nervous about everything being submitted for the final approval. How long did it take for the insurance to approve the surgery? I am hoping it is not a long wait bc I am really hoping for a December surgery date. It's been a long 6 months.

So, for the first time since my surgery, I gained weight this week. I gained 2.6 pounds. I know what I did though. I didn't track one day, and I over ate another day. I also didn't drink enough water or eat enough protein. Onward!

Hi everyone, I'm Esther. I've been lurking around the boards for a few days and wanted to introduce myself. My surgeon just sent off the letter for approval this week so I'm hoping to hear back in the next few weeks. If all goes well we hope to plan surgery for December since I've already met my deductible for the year and the deductible double next year (of course it does). The heaviest I've ever been was about 293, over a few years I worked with my doctor and got down to 230 (lowest of my adult life). I started to slowly gain it back and then was put on lexapro and gained 30lbs in 3 months and now I'm almost back to my heaviest. After much deliberation, my doctor and I …

Hey everyone, I am 3 day post op. I have been trying to take in my fluids with not much success. Whenever I sip my fluid I can feel it run down my throat and into my stomach. As soon as it hits my stomach it feels like a golf ball is stuck right above my stomach, Then I get strange noises from my stomach and it begins to fizz like when you open a coke, Next the fluid I just sipped comes back up midway. I have to keep swallowing to get it to go down. I can only do 2 sips in 30 mins, Also my heart has been having lots of palpatations. So much that its wakes out of sleep. Has anyone else been through this?? My Dr and nurse looked at me crazy when I told them this. …

The bariatric center I go to has VSG patients start on pureed food on day 3. I know it's uncommon, but there are others that do this also. They tend to believe recovery comes faster this way. Note: My bariatric center and the team of surgeons are highly rated and certified by BCBS (Distinction) and MBSAQIP. They've performed 1,000+ VSGs. Anyone else start pureed foods during week 1?

  33. So good, you have to try it. 1/2 cup quick oats 1/4 cup cottage cheese two egg whites teaspoon of baking powder splash of milk (I use almond) Zap this in your friendly smoothie maker or blender Dump a few frozen or fresh blueberries in a pan Pour batter over them and cook just like you'd cook pancakes. Flip when they bubble. These are incredible. Maple Grove Farms Sugar free maple syrup is 15 calories for a quarter cup....tastes fantastic! Add some berries and walnuts on top. Enjoy!

Hey guys! I was just wondering if anyone ever experienced eating too big chunks of food? I've just started on soft foods and still getting the hang of eating slowly and chewing super well and sometimes I just really forget to chew and end up swallowing bigger pieces. Luckily they're soft foods (eggs to be exact) so I haven't had any issues but just wondering what happens if you swallow a too big of a piece of let's say chicken or meat? Does it get stuck in your pouch? and how would you know to seek medical help or to wait it out? Thank you!

I'm just over 4 weeks out. I lost 20 pounds in the first 4 weeks, BUT almost 15 was the first week after surgery. Then I had a stall/recovery period at week 2 and didn't lose for 10+ days. Now I'm losing at a rate of 2.2 pounds per week. I'm so sad and angry. Why isn't it falling off like everyone says? I'm eating 300 to 400 calories per day and aiming for 60g of protein per day (per my doctor's plan- at 3 months I get upped to 500 calories per day and should be near 80g of protein and possibly more calories depending on workouts). I can't believe it. 2.2 pounds per week?? That's what normal people lose, but I'M NOT NORMAL. I just had 75% of my stomach cut out …

Everything seems overwhelming and it’s like I’m having existential crisis. I have faith it’ll get better, but right now it seems My life is flashing before my eyes. I had my 2nd appt. with the nutritionist and asked her about liquid proteins etc. She said starting week 2 it protein form normal sources, even chicken as long as you chew it up well. From what I have read most people seem to be on soft foods for 4-6 weeks. Is that the norm? My other question -- after surgery (months later/long term) can you take an advil? I thought I read something about after Bypass surgery that you couldn't take it. What do I do in 20 years if I have arthritis?

Hi, friends. I am 12 weeks post-op tomorrow. I am still miserable. I semi-regret this surgery. I miss food so much. I miss gorging myself. I miss the way food made me feel. I hate being scared of food. I hate always thinking of food and worrying about it. I hate this life I am now forced into. Yes, I have lost 45lb since surgery. 55lb since pre-op diet. However, food made me happy. Now I am unhappy. I think I am going to go to a therapist because this feeling is not getting better over time.

Hey folks, I figured I'd ask 2 burning questions I've had. I'm 8 days post op VSG. 1. Has anyone else had to do a TWO week CLEAR liquid diet post op? My surgeon doesn't even allow protein shakes, just clear liquids and I feel like I'm just not getting enough calories. I am getting 40g of protein with a protein water by isopure but clear liquids for 14 days is driving me nuts. 2. How much liquids can you drink? I honestly feel ZERO restriction when I drink liquids, and can easily get 8 to 10 ounces in comfortably in a few minutes. Is that normal and/or am I drinking too fast? I make sure to take small sips, I don't get gassy or "stuck" the way peo…
