I am two days shy of being one week post-op! However, my birthday is coming up in less than a week. My younger brother and husband are really kind of at a blank when it comes to getting me a birthday "cake," since I can't eat solids right now (my youngest brother made me a keto birthday cake one year when I was doing that.) I told them it really doesn't matter, some nice soup would be fantastic (Ooooo, from Panera right?) But they'd still the suggestion. Does anyone have any suggestions for them? I was thinking of a cake batter protein shake, but I didn't know where to start.

I'm a little upset, supposed to have moved out and getting my surgery on December 10th, but rescheduled to the 17th, but I cannot have the surgery and walk up 4 flights of stairs and no one to help me... God willing before Christmas I will be in my new home. Please Pray for me

  3. Usually happens if I have to get up to fast or sometimes when I just feel overly tired. I wanted to know if it is common and eventually goes away. I'm getting my protein in and fluids. I am on some pureed foods. Less then 400 calories a day. I do walk at least 30 mins daily.

Hello, first time to post. I had surgery ~4 years ago. Have done well maintaining weight with no complications. Recently I've started having a cramping pain in my stomach after meals. Not every meal but often enough to be concerning. It doesn't seem to be any certain type of food. Has anyone else experienced this?

Interested to find out how everyone’s diabetes and blood sugar levels have been since they’ve had surgery. I’m still early in the process and hoping to have VSG in May or June of 2019. Improvement in my overall health, especially with my diabetes is my main reason for pursuing surgery. Thank you!!

Hi all! Today I am exactly 10 days post-op and still in the liquid diet phase, I feel good. I am starting to walk, taking my multivitamins and drinking my protein shakes but I am not noticing any weight change on the scale. Is this normal?

How important is water? Or liquids in general I guess. I had a sleeve on Dec. 11 and feel pretty good except that swallowing water or broth causes a first little burp and then a terrible, painful cramp. I am drinking TINY amounts so it’s definitely not a gulping thing. I think I’m maybe getting 24 to 30 oz of water and I am trying to sip all day. I don’t feel dehydrated and am otherwise ok (just wrung out still from surgery). Why do I need that much water again?

Hey y’all, First time post, Gastric Sleeve Surgery yesterday 12/13/18. Was told to take Ursidol. Specific instructions to break open pill and add to food. Tried it with chicken broth and could hardly get it down. Awful taste. Any ideas how to take it in that matter? Thanks

  10. Since I left the hospital I’ve noticed a big change in the foods I enjoy for their taste and texture. Many of the foods I loved before are no longer appealing to me. Most of them because they don’t taste so good anymore and some make me sick. I have been very good and haven’t been eating bad at all. However, this Last weekend Miss Barbara began her annual Christmas Cookie baking marathon. She made all my old favorites and I decided I could eat half of one cookie each day. Well I’ve taken a bite of each kind she made and surprise! I hate them all. I will have no trouble avoiding them from here on out. I guess that’s a good thing, because my weight problem was pri…

I am about 9 months post-op and down to my goal weight (actually below). I have worked hard to get to where I am. My family bought a cake for my birthday which is upcoming. I have not cheated with any desserts ever!!!!!!!! Will it kill me to have a piece of cake? I know the answer to this but I feel super guilty even thinking about it. I can never go back to where I started. On one hand I know it won't kill me, on the other hand it's like I am relinquishing control.

Hey everybody! I just got re-released from the hospital today! I had some fluid in my stomach cavity that caused me to be unable to keep my liquids down. I'm doing 10x better thanks to my AMAZING surgeon who was so hands-on and helpful from the beginning! I'm so excited to see how this surgery affects my life in the near future! Complications can happen to anybody but just stay strong and it will all get better.

Help settle a bet. Co worker says mashed potatoes and sugar free applesauce can be eaten post op for full liquid diet. I say no. Thoughts?

I hate taking vitamins, and I must admit, sometimes I do, but often I don't. I hate them. I justify it because I had the sleeve and it is not a surgery that creates mal-absorption (sp?). Am I crazy? I am only 2 months (tomorrow) post op, and wondering how bad my checkups will be. Is there anyone out there who also did not take their vitamins after getting sleeved, and have no issues with vitamin levels? Anyone who DID have issues?

  21. Started by jultrim18,

I have never been a water drinker, but since surgery, it has gotten worse! I drink about 16fl ounces of water a day!!! I just seem to drink when I’m thirsty, and I’m not thirsty too often. How is water going for everyone else? Tomorrow I will be 17 weeks post op.

Hey, just wondering does anyone have any advice on what your macro targets should be post op. Im trying to work out whats a good goal to set with macros. Im aiming for high protein and high fat with low carbs but wondering does anyone have percentages that they try to hit?

Does anyone use Aetna in Illinois? I know plans can vary, but I’m wondering about there approval process. When I first met with the surgeon I had a 40 BMI. As it’s supposed to...it’s dropped since my first visit. Not much, but it’s dropped. The PA I saw at the next visit said that if I do not have sleep apnea, then I wouldn’t qualify. Does anyone have any knowledge of this. Isn’t the purpose of the program to lose weight. I would be under the 40 BMI at surgery, so am I supposed to be a 40 at the time of surgery? Just confused! Any advice is appreciated.

I needed to celebrate with someone who understands how great this feels! I weighed today and I have lost 52 pounds since the start of my liquid diet 7 weeks ago! I have so much weight to lose but seriously, its incredible that I have lost 52 pounds in 7 weeks! I will be taking pics again on the 29th to see if I can see the difference... but the last pic I took was on 10/29, the day of my surgery. So I wanna keep it close lol. I am so grateful to life and my doctors and you guys and myself for this surgery. I still have a long way to go but I already feel the wonderful benefits of a 52 pound weight loss!

I am 10 months post op and have been having pain in my left side, i went to my surgeon and he ordered a ct scan. Although I have no stones they did find i may have nephrocalcinosis, which is a build up of calcium in the kidneys, so i am deciding to stop the calcium citrate pills and just do the multivitamins. When i had my stomach scan before the surgery they found that it is oblonged (very long) which was why i never felt full. So even though my stomach is now smaller the shape is still the same and i can still get in a complete meal ie protein a side and some veggies (just smaller quantities). With that being said I don't feel I'm vitamin deficient anyway so taking s…

Passing gas never felt so good!! 2 days post op and I was partially miserable and bloated this morning. Once the gas started rolling and released, feels like a new me. Still sore, but much more tolerable.

I have surgery in 3 days. In short Im having surgery at Bariatricpal MX (Mexico) I didnt have any of the tests and classes anyone else had. Im on my 14 day liquid diet, Im super stressed and stopped smoking cigarettes 6 months ago. But in short i pretty much almost got a divorce Monday evening so Ive smoked like half a pack on Tuesday and now im freaking out. what if i fly all the way to San Diego, get to Tijuana and they blood test me and cant do my surgery because Im a stressed out idiot and smoked.

I've never been a cold person, but since my surgery I'm freezing all the time, especially in the evening and night. I had to get a heated mattress pad because I couldn't fall asleep I was so cold!! Anyone else experience this? I feel like my body's response to the reduced energy intake is to reserve power for crucial functions, LOL...

  37. 18 months now. 74 pounds gone. Bootcamp 3 -4 days per week. Eating less. Feel better

  38. Started by Bougieb,

Sooooooo super excited that my surgery was approved and I’m locked in on 1/28/19! Although it’s later than I wanted I plan on making the most of my time before hand. My bday is 2/11 so I plan to celebrate 1/11 instead. That’ll give me the chance to have a super lit game night with tacos and margaritas before I make this life change... can’t wait anybody else getting vsg done in January?

  39. Hey guys! I'm 6 weeks post op and my doctor says I can now move to solid food- but I'm having a hard time with meat- even the really soft kinds like slow cooked pork, beef and chicken. I can however have ground pork and beef and it's fine. How long until you sleevers got to tolerate actual solid food and what did you start with? Thank you!

  41. I started this journey having 288 pounds to lose, and, as of today's weigh in, I now have less than 100 pounds to lose to get to goal! I'm very happy!

  42. so... I have surgery on Wednesday... this is a HUGE life changing things... what if I don't lose weight! I weigh 190, and would like to be around 120, I'm 65 years old... will this work?

  43. So I submitted all my paper work last week and the physicians assistant told me she would be submitting my file to the insurance company that day (last Wednesday I believe). So I called my insurance company today to check on the status because they only take 24 hours to approve surgery. I call and the lady says she has nothing for me ? and to call my doctors office to see what the hold up is. I call the doctor and they tell me oh we are submitting your paperwork today. So now I’m pissed like Ms you def said you was submitting it last week. But ok fine whatever! So now I’m thinking when they claim the insurance company takes a week or two to process the surgery requests it…

  44. Hi guys — I wouldn’t normally rant about this kind of thing here, but I am heated about this and maybe some of you have gone through something similar and have words of advice for me. So I had my last check in the Tuesday before Thanksgiving which gave the doctor’s office ample time to send everything they needed to my insurance. Well today, I received a letter in the mail from my insurance stating that they have not received 2 things: a letter of medical necessity and office notes. “Okay, big deal,” you’re probably thinking... My surgery is scheduled for WEDNESDAY morning. Today is MONDAY. Actually, it is Monday night. So the doctor’s office is closed and I didn…

  45. Hey guys! I'm 2 weeks into the solid food stage and I'm craving some veggies but I'm scared of how my sleeve will take it. I've just been going on protein for the past 2 weeks but I am looking for some sides to pair them with. Any suggestions? What did you start with and how did you make them? Thank you!

  46. Started by Emmy J,

Hi everyone - newbie here. I've attended the seminar about WLS and turned in paperwork...just waiting for a phone call. I've read on here that some docs won't do gastric sleeve if you have acid reflux....they steer you towards bypass. Has anyone with a history of acid reflux had the sleeve surgery? In the seminar the doctor mentioned surgery fixing your acid reflux and not having to take the purple pill anymore. Obviously since I haven't met the doctor yet, I do not know what he will recommend for me surgery wise but I was leaning towards the sleeve as the best option for me.

  48. Started by Myhorseisfattoo,

OK, so there I was, working and drinking a cup of delicious broth, dreaming of my surgery on Weds. Hubby texts and says he is home THROWING UP!!!!! Now what do I do? I cannot go home! I am NOT missing surgery because of a stomach flu! I will obviously have to sleep in my truck! I've been SO SO careful to avoid sick contacts, sanitize my hands and it turns out to be an inside job?? For real, tho, will they cancel me if I'm barfing or.....pooping???

  49. Started by Littel_Urchin,

Fair warning, this post is part rant about period but also, I'm genuinely looking for advice / suggestions. First of all, can I just say I hate it that as a woman who's trying to lose weight (in my case, at least), I only get 2 good weeks out of every month where my body and my weight loss can be quite predictable and reliable. I hate it that even if I can find the motivation to get my weight loss momentum going psychologically, physically my body can only sustain that momentum for 2 weeks before PMS hits and everything goes haywire that makes it very hard to stay on top of things. I am currently in the middle of one of my worst PMS weeks ever especially when it…
