  1. Started by MelissaKay,

I had my surgery on September 23rd 2015. I lost 12 pounds before surgery and only 28 pounds between surgery and my one year surgerversary. So only 50 pounds total. I still have 50 pounds to go. My husband had his rny on October 17th. He has lost 50 pounds since his 2 week pre OP diet. I am finally getting back on the bandwagon. I'm getting at least 60 grams of protein, keeping carbs under 100 grams, drinking 64 ounces water and keeping calories between 1000 and 1200 calories. Just started a few weeks ago but already seeing 1-2.5 pounds lost per week. Any other sleevers from September 2015?

I’m two days in on the liquid diet and I’m struggling. I’m allowed to two shakes a day and one meal with a non starchy vegetable. Can you y’all tell me this will be easier? I read on here that people cheat on their liquid diet but I don’t wanna know that. Somebody tell me that it’ll get better. The shakes leaves a nasty after taste. Help me so I won’t cancel my surgery ?

  3. Is prioritising protein just for the recovery stage (a few months) or is it meant to be the new normal forever? My dietician hasn’t mentioned it as she tends to only deal with the current recovery stage.

Ok so I am officially on pureed foods as of today. I was burned out on creamed soups for sure and the one lil cheat I had when I nibbled a cookie Saturday showed me that sugar tastes like crap now... so lesson learned. So today I had....2oz of cottage cheese which was quite tasty and I wanted to eat more but nothing else was fitting in my new tummy. Then I had a scrambled egg with cheese on it, was right at 2oz there too and even yummier than the cottage cheese. And then I had spiced up tuna and mayo. The clouds parted and the angels sang! My tummy and mouth are happier than they have been in soooooo long. Heh, who knew tuna with mayo was so good.

Someone please tell me it gets easier! I'm still in pain. Monday was awful. Today I'm a little better but sheww I had no idea it would be like this! They removed my band and did the sleeve. I'm juat ready to be back to normal...no swelling....and able drink more than sips!

  7. Hi guys, after canceling two previous surgery dates out of fear of death and losing my partner, I finally did it! I'm super happy as I'm already 23lbs down in 3wks, but I'm so miserable because I want to eat and I can't!!! lol I'm still in my liquid phase, but I've cheated a few times and thankfully I don't have any nausea or dumping. Water is still hard to swollow even with sugar free mixes, the same goes for soups. It almost feels like it all gets stuck in my throat and then I have to wait for it to slowly digest. Overall, my scars have healed and I'm super happy with my decision. My bf still thinks it's the easy way out, but I can tell he's enjoying my newly developing…

I'm 3 months post op and my diet is finally expanding. I can now have raw veggies including salads, which I'm very excited about. Basically anything but fruits and carbs. I'm struggling a little with the portion size for things like salads. For those of you who have passed this step, how do you figure out the size of a salad? Do you measure it out or just eat until full? I'd love to be able to go out to dinner with friends and family and order a salad, but I'm not sure how to eyeball the correct portion size.

  9. 7 days post op today and I haven't been able to get down 64 ounces of liquid yet. I'm not vomiting. I just feel stuffed and I'm just having difficulty forcing myself to drink it all. The only thing that works easily is sugar free Jello. Suggestions anyone?

I had an easy surgery and recovery in May (2018). I was a fairly low weight by the time surgery day rolled around (180lbs) so I sailed to goal (150lbs) by mid August, with a couple minor stalls along the way. I readjusted my goal to 140lbs. I hit that a couple weeks later and thought, perhaps I’d like to try out 135lbs. No matter what I do, I cannot get beyond 139lbs. I have been bouncing between 140 and 139 for 4 weeks. It doesn’t matter what I change; activity, calories, sodium, fat, protein, fluid... I dropped another size during the first week of this stall but nothing since. Could this simply be another stall or is this my body saying, “You need to live her…

Just thought I would ask here why the pre and post diet for the gastric sleeve require no caffeinated coffee. I know it's long been believed that caffeine acts as a diuretic, and it does to those people who don't drink it daily. However there has been new studies that show that if you have been a caffeine Drinker for years the diuretic portion of caffeine is not going to affect you. If there is any other reason not to drink caffeinated coffee I would love to know. Thanks

I'm about 7 months out from sleeve surgery and I noticed that sometimes after I eat, I have to sneeze. I don't mean 1 "achoo". I mean repeatedly sneezing, like 10 or 12 times, over and over. When I get this, I'm full, but I wouldn't say I've overeaten. Only oddity is this sneezing business. I mean, I KNOW when I've overeaten. There's no mistaking it. I am uncomfortable, almost in pain. I feel like I need to burp, but can't. Sometimes thick saliva/slime comes up or turns to foam. (sorry for the graphics) Sneezing seems a peculiar reaction to eating and is quite annoying, especially if I'm working in an office environment where people make comments about …

  14. A year ago today around this time I was in the hospital getting prepped for surgery. I was ready for my life to change. The following 9 months were spent meticulously following my plan, learning about my healing body, and being amazed at the progress I was making. Months 10-12 have been different. My hunger is back in full force. I can eat more at a time than I thought, and head hunger has taken control. I'm not losing 1-2 lbs a day, or 1 lb a week, or even 1 lb every two weeks like I had been. My highest weight before surgery was 310, lowest after surgery was 211, and today I weighed in at 214. I am terrified, disappointed, and ready to take control again. …

I was sleeved 7/4/17, so I am a little over a year out. I was sleeved in Mx, so I haven't seen my bariatric team since my surgery (as far as post op checkups, etc.) . My weight loss has slowed down quite a bit and I have been between 173-178 for the past few months (30 years old, 5'8 and trying my best to exercise 3-5 times a week). I was hoping that some people who were about a year out could tell me how they are doing and what their approx. macros are. I have been trying to follow bariatric keto for a few months...but it really doesn't seem to be a good fit for me. I had the ketone strips and joined a special "bariatric keto" group on Facebook and they provided me wit…

I'm 1 will out from surgery. I'm doing well except I'm very weak. My surgeon said only eat if hungry. I'm never hungry! I eat yogurt, protien enhanced jello, protein shakes and strained soup. Was just able to drink water today without pain. Loosing 9 lbs in a week seems extreme. I just have no appetite! Is anyone else having this issue?

Hey everyone! I’m finding it hard to find someone who looks like me anywhere online, just to see what I may look like without all this fluff on me! I’m 5’1 and 246 right now. I have a really long torso and very short legs and I hold most of weight right in my belly area. My thighs, calves, arms, are pretty thin, but I also have a rather large chest, lol. Anyone have any progress photos along with how long it’s been since your surgery so I can have an idea of what to look forward to?! Thanks! I’ve made an Instagram for my weight loss journey @LookStraightVSG but haven’t posted anything yet! Would love to follow you guys too!

Hi everyone, it's been eight weeks today since I had surgery. I've been reading the forums but I've been pretty busy lately and haven't had much of a chance to make any post. I'm so thankful that I decided to have this surgery, I've had absolutely no complications at all, no pain no nausea nothing at all. I have been able to get between 80 and 90 g of Protein every day, and anywhere from 68 to 75 ounces of liquids everyday, I'm maintaining approximately 1,000 cal a day. I have lost a considerable amount of weight, I've went from a 4XL shirt to a XL and from a size 56 to a size 38 in pants. I have truly been blessed!

HI all - I know I'm new and maybe too new to complain, but I need a bit of help. I was just sitting at the table with my husband, eating small food off my small plate and mentioning that I got sugar free creamer and also how excited that I am to be exactly 4 weeks away from surgery. His comments were that if I can adhere to a pre-op diet, then all I need to do is diet and exercise and I don't need surgery. This man has watched me struggle with my weight, given me **** about it, scoffed at my eating choices and generally just been an a$$hole about this for years. Is it too much to ask to have someone support me? What words can I tell him so that he will understan…

I've been stuck around the same weight for about 3 weeks now, the longest stall on my journey so far. I am currently 5 months out and feeling great, but just trying to break this stall. I had the sleeve

  25. Just wondering if anyone has this insurance and if you do, any information regarding getting approved for surgery? ?

  26. Often I hear about folks who had "buyers remorse" for a short time after surgery. If you experienced this.... When did it start, and how long did it last? Any advice for others if they start to experience this? Thanks!

  27. Hey everyone, 9 months post up, had gallstones so bad and one got stuck in my bile duct...had 2 procedures and had my gallbladder removed. Was in the hospital for 7 days. Finally home and can eat but holy crap I feel like a zombie and need to eat everything. I eat and get hungry instantly. Wtf is going on?? Anyone experience this constant hunger after having gallbladder removed as a WLS patient? Does this go away? Did you gain weight after? How are you dealing with it? Please let me know!!

This may be controversial but I'm wondering if anyone is purposely forcing malabsorption / laxative effect and as a side effect making their sleeve behave like RNY? It occurred to me that from time to time I do this (to maintain bowel regularity) because dense protein stays in my body too long so I purposely use extra stevia to promote swifter bowel movements on the days I eat mostly meat. Any thoughts? Is this even a thing? Is this considered forcing malabsorption or just creating a laxative effect? Sent from my Coolpad 3622A using BariatricPal mobile app

  30. Well geez. I am 3 months post op and I had a convention and had to eat out. I tolerate soft meatballs so I decided to buy 2 tablespoons of soft beef stew for lunch. Oh boy that was a disaster. When I left the mall and was driving to my event I had to pull over twice to vomit. My gosh did I feel sick for about 3 hours. awful awful awful. I just don't understand why at this point I cannot seem to get meats down. Its protein! And low carb which is important to me as a diabetic. Hi All, Just thought I’d post some soup recommendations for weeks 2-3 post sleeve diet. I’ve found that Amy’s organic mushroom bisque and butternut squash go down really easy. I was able to do 4-5 spoonfuls over about 30 minutes with ease. I couldn’t get anymore down. They also have lentil soups that I’m eager to try when I get to the soft food phase. I finally feel satisfied after a week of mostly feeling hungry and like protein drinks were not cutting it and left a bad aftertaste. Enjoy!

I am new to this forum just found it by googling. I am scheduled for surgery 9/11/2018. I am excited and also nervous, I am currently on the liquid diet and it really sucks. I am hungry...oh so hungry. It seems like this week has been taking forever to go by and I am not sure if I can make it . I also worry about returning to my bad habits and/or poor food choices after I have the surgery. I don't want all this to be for naught. I am also concerned with how my skin will look after I start dropping the weight, if my knees and back will stop hurting....oh so many worries... Am I wrong for having these thoughts? Does this mean I am not ready?

Nine months post-op, I went to Mexico and lost 8lbs in 5 days (I do not recommend this). I followed medical advice, but I think being a bariatric patient probably complicated things. So! If you're going to Mexico post-op, or traveling anywhere prone to tainted water: As soon as you start feeling... liquid, go STRAIGHT to sports drinks/hydration fluids. Skip the water, it's not enough. I wish I'd had a bottle in my bag. From now on I'm going to pack the powder in my med kit, so I can add it to purified water in an emergency. You're not going to be able to leave the hotel room to get it yourself. Your stomach's going to be back at zero when it comes to tolerat…

I have lost all the weight I set out to lose. I am however asking, has any long time sleeves had any behavior issues. It's a hard topic to discuss but I'm also a nurse and I'm putting myself out there. We are made of chemical reactions and we had a place where chemicals are produced, removed. I have severe problems with meds in general now that I'm prescribed. My clinic says this is normal but I have to see doctors out of the clinic and they don't want to play by the clinics rules! Especially now that I have a nerve condition. It would be nice to have another human to say, yes, I have had a similar problem!

Hello everyone! I finally got a date - September 6, 2018! I will be having multiple surgeries along with my vertical sleeve gastrectomy. I will elaborate on the other things I will have done in a separate thread - I want to keep this for the sleeve part only. I've been in the conversation since March 2018 and am on my second surgeon, whom I've been seeing since June 29, 2018. I've lost (as of Aug. 2, 2018) 28 pounds so far. I am officially on the four-week pre-op diet. The surgeon is concerned with my liver size. I had to have a CT scan yesterday to specifically look at the liver and the blood flow through it. He thinks I have what is called Portal Hypertension. The CT sc…

I am currently 3wks post op and I can begin eating soft solids in 2 days. The last two weeks of protein shakes have really done damage to me mentally. I feel like I am starving. I cannot tolerate drinking all of my shakes so I am not exactly getting in enough protein. Anyway, all I do is think about food and it is killing me. I was not prepared for this at all. So far most of the people I talk to say they weren't hungry. Does this mean I'm crazy? Maybe I didn't really have anything removed! This has really taken a toll on me emotionally. Am I the only one?!

Yesterday morning I got sleeved. I was so scared and full of anxiety, but the doctors and team were incredibly kind and reassuring. I stayed overnight in the hospital and am home today. So far I’ve been able to keep down yogurt, cream of wheat, applesauce and butternut squash pear soup. I’m eating everything very slowly and in small quantities. The worst part of the experience so far was being on the liquid diet 24 hours before surgery. The lack of food triggered a migraine, which made me nauseous, which made the headache even worse. I dry heaved for hours, and at 12am my husband drove me to the hospital early so I could get fluids and zofran for the nausea. They could…

Anyway, I have been experiencing a right upper abdominal burning pain lately, worse with hunger which wakes me up in the middle of the night when it comes on. The pain reduces once I take in a few bites of my dilluted yogurt, but returns after a couple of hours. Has anyone experienced this? What should i be considering as a factor? My NP did not comment on that but I requested for an h-pylory test which is pending. Thanks.

Oh no no no!!!! I couldn’t burp, and then all of a sudden I started salivating. Truly the worst feeling ever! However one little barf, and I was good ??? I seriously need to learn to eat slower!
