For the *losers* out there I'm curious whether you see yourself looking the same or different in the mirror compared to in photos, with both being at your current weight. I'll post my response as a comment so as to not influence your thoughts.

Hi...I just joined this forum yesterday, have search the topics, but haven’t found the answer to my particular question. My sleeve surgery is in 1 week. My worry is that so many here stress the importance of water, yet it sounds as if it is hard to get enough. I am a big water drinker and can down a 22-ounce glass of it in one shot. I understand that I will not be able to do that after surgery! But my fear is that I will be walking around thirsty-continually-until my stomach is completely healed. Or maybe forever. Can someone tell me if you feel extremely thirsty all the time or do you adjust to small sips easily? How long does it take before you can drink more th…

So before surgery i HATED anything grape flavored with a passion and fruit punch was my go to. So i bought a multi flavor pack of gatorade zero and figured id give hubby the grape now that im post op. Took one swig of thr fruit punch and spit it out...tried the grape and it was heaven!! So funny how you dont realize how much your taste buds change! Who elses taste buds changed?

I'm 12 days post op, gastric sleeve, ate some soup that was thickened with potato 2 days ago, and it made my tummy VERY angry. Ended up with terrible pain in my lower esophagus (like a softball sitting in there) and my diaphragm muscle was really hurting too. My surgeon's nurse put me on clears for 24 hours, but I was so worried, I only got in about 30oz of fluids with 25g protein. Today I am back on regular liquids, but started getting that excessive saliva that was all foamy. Last night I had the "foamies" after a sugar free popsicle. I'm worried about a stricture, but sounds like it could have happened due to be overly irritated. I texted my nurse again, and I'm …

Hi there, I have battled with my weight my whole life, however am now 25 kgs overweight for my height of 163. I am blaming it on the fact that I have had 4 shoulder operations in the last 3 years, but realistically it is because I have been binge eating (definitely not purging) and been very sedentary (compared to my old lifestyle). I have tried every diet known to man since I was about 13 and have on occasion been too skinny, but now I can't budge this weight and I am considering getting a vertical gastric sleeve. My weight has affected everything in my life, mentally and socially. My BMI is 31 and whilst I had a relatively high BMI of 27 when I was an athlete, I know t…

So I’m two weeks post-op and had no major complications, just had gas pain first week. This morning I woke up choking on bile and had to run and spit it up, my throat is on fire as well. I just realized that I must of accidentally rolled on to my stomach, but I’m not sure how long I was sleeping on it. Has this happened to anyone and what did you do?

I am looking for some input from people who have fibromyalgia and have had a gastric sleeve surgery. I am having my surgery on 12/20/18. I have pretty bad fibromyalgia and my surgeon told me I may have a rougher time than most people. I am scared to death that I will have complications or be in so much pain. I have had a hysterectomy and a back surgery and did very well with both of those from a pain and recovery standpoint but I was a lot younger then.

Good Afternoon everyone! I need help/advise. I got the Gastric Sleeve on 08/16/18 and definitely found myself with the same cravings as before and worrying whether they took another body part out and not half my stomach. I was losing weight though so i was pretty happy. This past Thursday was my one month surgaversary. I had lost about 15 lbs on the two week diet before and was loosing 10 lbs a week the first two weeks after surgery. I am now down 5 additional pounds since then but within the last two weeks the scale is at a stand still. I feel like it is to early to stall! Can someone give me any advice, I am starting to be incredibly hard on myself.

Anyone had any stomach cramping at night? It kept waking me up... I tried a new protein shake before bed wondering if that is it. I am assuming it was just gas pain since I was sleeping and not getting it out.

I was diagnosed with a cystocele and rectocele. Had them repaired Tuesday 11/20. Has anyone else has this issue? Seems like it all hit after my gastric sleeve I had a year and half ago. I just wondered if anyone has had surgery to correct those and what your experience was. I’m not sure everything I’m feeling is normal. Dr compared it to giving birth but I’m sorry, it’s been nothing like giving birth. And yes I’ll be calling my girly Dr tomorrow to ask questions.

After 12+ years of looking into WLS, 3 different seminars and 100s of hours of blogs, forums, YouTube, and research papers....the time has come. Also after 20 years of a BMI of 40+, 3 comorbidities and a dozen diets (3 of them medically supervised), advice for my PCP, and now worn out knees....tomorrow is the day. I'm a bit frightened but hopeful for a common, text-book surgery and recovery. I should be home Wednesday night...and I'll provide an update. Thank you all for your support!

I seem to be doing really good on fluid intake. My first day home was hard and I only managed about 32oz. But yesterday I was able to get close to 48. Today I think I may get close to 64oz (this includes 2 protein shakes and water) But this has me a little freaked out. Am I drinking too much? It seems everyone else this far out is only getting 20-30 oz in. I am scared I'm going to hurt my staple line. But I never have pain sometimes a little discomfort from gas coming back up. I noticed a huge difference when i started my acid reducer I'm wondering if that is what has helped.

I had my surgery on November 15. I have only lost 6 pounds in 10 days and I’m strictly following my diet and exercising and drinking my water and taking my vitamins. Three days, nothing. I’m so frustrated and terrified I’m not going to lose this weight. Is this normal to go this slowly?

I’m doing really great, 60 lbs down! But I’m taking vitamins and calcium and still losing more hair than I’d like. My hair is already fine/thin. Anybody have any recommendations on a vitamin to take to strengthen my hair and cut down on the hair loss? I’ve read about Biotin but also the side effects. Any ideas? Thanks so much !!

I have a question for sleevers who are at least a year post-op. I'm at about two months post-op, allowed to (and able to) eat pretty much anything. (I haven't risked rice or pasta, and I won't until ... what? 6 months? That's a question to ask at my 3-month follow up, I guess. And, I mean, there are definitely other things I haven't tried! But I have enough range, now, that I don't feel limited at all.) I need some fiber in my life, but every ounce of protein I replace with something fibrous is yet more protein shake I'm stuck drinking; even swapping in beans means decreasing my protein count from what it could be, for that meal. Honestly, I have to have a shake…

Hi! I've been lurking on the forums for quite some time now. I thought I would introduce myself. I am a 39 year old male, and will be having my first appointment with my surgeon next week. I've jumped all the hoops, had the classes, psych evals, etc. Sadly my insurance specifically excludes WLS, so I am paying out of pocket. I've decided that it will be worth it though! After my appointment with my surgeon next week, I'll start a two week liquid diet, and then have surgery. Being a nurse, I've been in the OR, I've seen how violent surgery can be up close, even when using davinci machines for laproscopic surgery. I'm having a hard time not freaking out abo…

Hello everyone, I tried to find an earlier topic that related to this post, but I was not able to find quite what I was looking for. . . Tuesday I start my pre-op and I am struggling to find meal-prep ideas that will make my mornings before work a little easier to handle (I work nights.) I know everyone has a different pre-op diet, but my program allows me 4 oz lean protein + unlimited non-starchy vegetables alongside 2 protein shakes and a small snack. I am not too concerned about the protein shake and small snack, but I am out of ideas for the lean protein. The thing is. . . I do NOT like to heat up chicken from it being cold. If it remains cold, that's usuall…

Had my surgery 5 weeks ago today. Seems like longer! I did have a stall for a week or so but I got on the scale this morning and I’m down 2 more pounds! I’ve been able to tolerate most foods. Sometimes I forget to chew well enough or eat to fast. I’m happy to say that I can drink coffee again. It tasted awful for the first few weeks. I made cauliflower pizza the other night and it was delicious! My family had regular pizza and I ate mine and didn’t feel deprived. They all tried mine and loved it! I see my doctor tomorrow for my follow up. I hope you all have a happy thanksgiving. HW 285 SW 272 CW 250 GW 175

So - I had my daughter take my "before" pics yesterday. I'm trying so very hard not to look at them but holy SCHITT.......I don't think I really realized how large I am until I saw ALL of me. I'm going to try hard not to obsess over this. I've been telling myself I'm "not that big" for so long. Thank goodness surgery is in 17 days - this needs to go! Also, you will all get to see these as soon as I have a progress pic to compare them to!

I ate decently: small amount of Turkey in small bites, a very small amount of dressing, two bites of mac n cheese... But later I ate a piece of pie with whipped cream. Almost a whole small sliver. And I had 3 alcohol drinks throughout the day (from 12-8pm). Now I have the typical fat, shameful remorse that i always have had after pigging out. But I now have the additional fear DID I RUIN WHAT I HAVE COME THIS FAR WITH? I'm 6.5 mos out. What if I stretched out my sleeve with two glasses of champagne. I drank s-l-o-w but it's still bubbly. Tomorrow has to be a restart day. Protein shakes, water, water, water. I didn't think holidays would be this hard. I thought it'd be …

Hello everyone. I had my surgery (sleeve) on Wednesday 11/14 and I’m a total wuss when it comes to pain and discomfort and am regretting it so bad right now. It hurts to drink anything. I’m nauseous. I don’t mind the stomach soreness much (just feel like I did a bunch of ab crunches). I’m supposed to be drinking my protein shakes but I’m scared to even try lol sucking on the popsicles give me cramps and I know this will “pass” but I keep thinking, what if it doesn’t. I feel stupid for typing this :(

Hello everyone. I am 11 days post op. I had my gastric sleeve done November 13. All seems well except a still a bit of discomfort swallowing and I have a moderate pain in one of my incisions and its noticeably swollen. Not hot no draining or smell. Just wondering if this is normal. I got my surgery done out of the country so I don’t really have a follow up doctor at this point. But I’m wonderinf if I need to go have this checked out ? I believe this is the incision that was used to take the stomach out because it’s the biggest one. Thank you for any help and advice.

I am 3 years out. I feel like I can barely eat still. And if I push a bit I still throw up. Im curious, what is you diet like today calorie wise? I can only still handle such small amounts. I probably get 1 regular potion size plate worth of food in one day. Plus I sub in fruit and green juices. prob still not eating over 600 cal. And I workout as well.

For those who had the sleeve, how soon after the surgery were you able to be up and social. I know recovery is super important but I have my sons 3rd bday party just 3 days after my surgery. They said I should be fine and if possible take liquid Tylenol instead of my pain meds if I can handle it and that’ll help speed up recovery. I don’t have to really do anything for my sons bday just be there (the place does set up, entertainment, and cleanup!) and it’s only 1.5 hours. I just wanted to hear from people’s past experiences. Am I crazy for thinking/hoping I’ll be okay? Ps - I know I can’t carry him or anything which is no problem. We have both sides of the family here …

Hi all, This has probably been asked a gazillion times. Just wondering how everyone did with the post op pain. I'm not too worried about the gas pain but more the incision pain. I'm not a fan of pain meds, they make me vomit..... How did everyone do? The good, the bad and the ugly..... Also, I'm doing this alone. Will I be okay by myself or should I aske the surgeon to keep me an extra day. Thanks

I’m wondering what everyone has planned for eating Thanksgiving dinner. I’m debating both what to eat and what to say when my reduced intake is questioned. I don’t want to discuss my surgery with everyone who is there but I know peoples will comment. Right now I’m planning to allow myself tiny portions of all my favorites plus 1-2 drinks (Toasts are a big part of our celebration. ) I also want to check in on my stomach frequently so I don’t get distracted and overeat.

My first week and a half was amazing I saw almost 2-3 pounds a day and lost over 20 pounds and then it just stopped. Week 3 and now week 4 I have not lost a single pound and I noticed that I have gained 3 pounds and I feel like it is mostly my fault. I don't drink enough water because I am not thirsty and I am eating soft solids now and I don't eat enough I think or I could be eating the wrong foods. I am just feeling defeated. My support from the surgeons office tells me its probably my body going into starvation mode and possibly constipated. I just feel alone and it is making me depressed. I don't binge eat but during Thanksgiving I went crazy on the stuffing I mi…
