Woke up choking on bile!

So I’m two weeks post-op and had no major complications, just had gas pain first week. This morning I woke up choking on bile and had to run and spit it up, my throat is on fire as well. I just realized that I must of accidentally rolled on to my stomach, but I’m not sure how long I was sleeping on it. Has this happened to anyone and what did you do?

If your throat is burning it might be reflux. Lying flat allows that acid to wash back up to your throat.

  • Omeprazole - take daily as directed for a few months post op. my surgeon starts this 1 month pre op then 2 months post.

  • Happen to me too now I sleep with 3 pillows it really helps

Sit up or prop yourself up in bed. Start sipping water gently to reduce the acid" fire' in your throat. My grandmotherly advice would be to sip a little milk to set t le things down or take a Tums, if you're still feeling miserable after the sun rises, call your doctor's office and check in with them.❤and a Hug!

Yes I have been taking it at night. I’m getting better, just drinking more warm liquids for now

Night 2 for me, started 4 weeks post op with the MGP, have had no issues up until now, so discouraging

OMG Won by I do hope things get better for you soon.?
Sorry I meant Winny, didn't mean to change your pen name!

Thanks so much, my dr also added another med to try to relieve so hoping tonight will be better, he did tell me it is common....

It happens to me if I eat too close to bedtime. I can’t go to sleep with a full stomach anymore.

I will try to leave at least 4 hours before bed

I see the original poster, is no longer with us (no she didn't die LOL")

but talking about reflux is always important, newbies need help - answers

Awful, awful, awful!! That terrible burning sensation!!I also was woken up with

that burning, terrible feeling - I immediately sat up - went to fridge, and grabbed

a slice of bread - had about 3 bites - this helps a bit - take prescribed med or

tums. For me - continuing to lay on back would be awful.

good luck

kathy

Thanks proudgrammy, the pain really was so bad, had a great night last night my new meds seem to be helping, along with a third pillow,to prop myself up.

my Dr. Did tell me it is quite common in the first few months so hoping to keep it under control.
