  1. Few of us are prepared for how hard those first post-surgery days are. It really sucks but I promise it is temporary. You will feel normal again in time. Congratulations!
  2. Going back to Dr. V’s talk about getting your head straight. I’ve been able to break my plateau by working with the Noom app. It teaches you every little psychology trick you can think of to help maximize your weight loss and helps you set goals for self-care and healthy habits. For me, it’s the missing piece between nutrition facts and psychotherapy. I’m learning so much. You can do a 2 week free trial.
  3. I lost 12 pounds during a 2 week liquid diet of 1000 calories a day.
  4. If you have a relatively high pain threshold, you will probably be able to go back to work after 3 or 4 days. I agree there is no need to tell anyone who doesn’t need to know. Best of luck to you!
  5. @feelinghopefulnow, the big surprise in my recovery was not pain from the surgery itself. Instead I didn’t expect how week I’d be from eating so little in the first few weeks. I felt weak and lethargic until I could handle around 500 calories a day which took a few weeks. So I’d prepare to be spacey for a couple of weeks. I could work at my desk but I didn’t get a whole lot done at first. ?
  6. My loss slowed way down as I approached the 6 month mark and dealt with some life stress. In an attempt to get things going again I subscribed to a service called Noom which I am really liking. In addition to tracking food and steps etc, every day it gives you a series of cute little lessons on how to control your thinking around food, all based on psychology research. It’s built my motivation and is helping me dismantle my “fat brain”. Plus you get an occasional high five or message from an online coach. I’ve got the scale moving again these last 2 weeks (Phew!) They have a two week free trial then a monthly fee. ~$30/month depending on how many months you buy. If you use this link, you can get a 20% discount if you subscribe. Full disclosure: I would get a discount too. https://friends.noom.com/YVlFVkE4TllUOmNm
  7. I am totally flaming out in this challenge! I haven’t met my challenge goals at all. On the first day I found out that I didn’t get my dream job after it had been hinted to me that I would. It went to the internal candidate that I didn’t know existed. ?. And what I’ve learned is that I still have a lot of work to do around managing my feelings with food. I’ve been eating about 1800 calories a day for the last few days. Way fewer than I would have a year ago but way too many for my post-surgery goals. Thanks for listening. I just had to publicly own that.
  8. I felt woozy for part of the time. I was on my preop diet. They told me I could have some extra protein but it didn’t make a difference. I kept feeling weak after surgery until I got my calories up to about 500 per day. I hope your vertigo passes more quickly.
  9. Ok, I’m in! VSG on 7/3/18 Still losing but slower than I should be due to too many carbs. HW: 294 CW: 218.6 Feb. goal: 210 Due to severe winter hat hair, I am posting body only before pics. (I didn’t take any before surgery and am kicking myself for it!) I’m hoping this challenge helps me find my drive again.
  10. I’d call your doctor’s office to be sure. It probably won’t require an office visit. You are much more sensitive to acidity right now.
  11. I use MyFitnessPal. It does the job and it’s free!
  12. @greentealael Thanks for putting this together!
  13. Well, 6 months after being sleeved, I still can’t do carbonation. Do whatever will masker it easier to say goodbye. ?
  14. Sounds like you might have it. Medscape says: in general, the physical examination is normal in patients with OSA, aside from the presence of obesity (body mass index: >30 kg/m2), an enlarged neck circumference (men: >43 cm [17 in]; women: >37 cm [15 in]), and hypertension. I was diagnosed with apnea but couldn’t tolerate the CPAP. Now that I am down 75 pounds, I am hoping that it is gone. I certainly have more energy. Best of luck!
  15. Is there any chance of a February challenge? I missed the boat on this one.
  16. I ate a lot of low-fat ricotta cheese (1/4 cup) mixed with a Splenda and a few drops of vanilla. I can’t do tuna either.
  17. I’m 54 and 5 months post-op. I’m down 69 pounds. I do wish I had done this when my skin was a little younger and springier though. ?
  18. I used to be someone who was always hot but now I need layers and I’m dreading the coming winter. I don’t remember being this chilly BEFORE I got fat. What gives!?
  19. Sorry you’re feeling so wiped out. My first couple of months I was very tired too. It took my body a while to recover from the surgery, which is pretty major! Don’t let those tiny incisions fool you! Another factor is what you’re eating. I didn’t perk up until I could eat about 700 calories a day. Below that I was dragging. As for the depression, we are three weeks from the shortest day of the year. Everyone is a little low, even without major surgery. I don’t have any magic advice but I’m betting you start feeling better soon.
  20. Mint tea helped me more than zofran.
  21. I lost feeling in a palm sized area of my hip/thigh after gall bladder surgery. I believe it was caused by an injection that I received in that area. My feeling returned after about 6 months. Good luck.
  22. My first couple of weeks post-op were tough. I felt weak and fatigued in a way that felt like depression, mixed with some transient regret. However, as I lost more and more weight (I’m almost 5 months out and down 67 pounds) I felt physically energized and that supported a more upbeat mood. I still have bad days when I want to manage my mood with food and find I’m not physically capable of it anymore. So I have consciously look for alternative ways of cheering myself up. Still, overall, I feel like WLS has improved my depression. I wish the same for you. I think you’ll be happy with it.
  23. It’s hard to wrap our heads around our true sizes, especially “before”. I never really let myself think about it or kept any pictures. I just saw some Thanksgiving pictures and I look about the way I always think of myself. BUT, I’m down 67 pounds so I know I started out a lot bigger! I’ll be sure to take some after photos when I’m down another 67.
  24. How did it go? We’re rooting for the!
