I'm about 6 weeks post op and am still stuck at a 24 pound loss (17 immediately post-op, the other 7 verrrrry slowly came off after the first couple weeks. I'm coming up on day 10 of a stall. Lose a pound, gain a pound, lose a pound, gain a pound. I'm working the program, and with rare exception, am working it to near perfection. I get 64 oz of water but want to try to start getting in more. I am averaging 400 to 600 calories per day and am meeting my minimum protein goals (60mg, trying to figure out how to increase it to 80g without adding a bunch of calories). What else can I do? I'm considering fasting for a day to see if that helps break the stall.

Is it normal to feel hungry after being 4 days post op. I get this hunger feeling in my sternum area when I drink my liquids. Any input of what it could be or what I could try. And has anyone tried protein sugar free hot chocolate. I am curving hot chocolate.

I am having really bad cramping of the spine and gastric sleeve. They did some MRI's and found some bulging discs. They are in the lower spine. The pain is very muscular and cramps and can be very painful. I've been on muscle relaxers and had some tests done, but normally don't get any results. Is there any explanation for why I am in this pain? The spasming can be really painful.

I've heard people say that things taste different after barriatric surgery, but how soon after did everyone (if you did at all) experience this? I'm 2 weeks post op and seemed like it happened over night. Muscle milk in which tasted alright before now tastes like sour milk to me and Gatorade tastes super salty and filled with chemicals. How soon did your taste buds change after surgery and did they ever go back?

Hey friends. Any of you guys battling severe iron deficiency anemia? Ugh I had a hysterectomy a few months ago due to a huge fibroid and murderous periods which we thought was the cause (my iron, hemoglobin, and ferritin were less than 1 I had to have three iron infusions to correct) but it’s been almost 5 months and my levels continue to drop significantly each month. My hemotologist is searching for answers and I’m thinking my sleeve may have a big thing to do with it even though he does not. Just curious about you guys and what you may be experiencing. I’m 2 1/2 years out.

Hello everyone! This is my first post on the forums. I thought I’d share my experiences as a young person who has undergone the sleeve procedure. I figure it might help people in a similar situation or... just like to read these stories, I guess? Let’s start with some stats? I’m from Australia, I’m 22 years old, 165cm, and currently 72kg! My highest weight was 98kg, my surgery weight was 94kg, and my goal is 60kg. So, I’ve lost 26kg since beginning my journey! Wahoo! I suffer from several mental health conditions, including severe depression (including many suicidal thoughts), anxiety, and Body Dysmorphic Disorder. Although I still struggle daily with the…

Today was hard. I have surgery this Friday 20th. I've been eating the pre-op "envelope meal" diet almost 2 weeks and today the office ordered Cheesecake Factory. It's not their fault that I made the decision to do the surgery, but I still wanted to kick their chairs out from underneath them. It's literally all I can do to keep myself from saying "Eff it" and going for a steak and beer. I know I know, I am so close to surgery; I wont sabotage myself. One other thing that has been on my mind is how some people I have told have reacted to my news. I honestly didn't tell people for a long time about what I was doing because I didn't want to listen to everyone's opinion…

As I get closer to my surgery (December 18), I keep having dreams that all have a common theme - me having conversations with people about doing something that could leave my kids without their mom. In the dreams, I'm much younger and my kids are little. Irl all my kids are adults, but I think I'm just having some fears about the surgery itself. I really think I can do the lifestyle change. Anyone else have these kinds of dreams/thoughts as you approached surgery?

Hey yall!!! I just did my vsg yesterday and I have to say I feel really awesome. I am in very little pain if any. My throat did not hurt when I woke up. I was very gassy though. It was a great experience. I was able to ask the surgeon and the anesthesiologist all my crazy questions...like how are you gonna prevent me from dying...lol... but it was actually amazing. The staff was amazing I had really really awful roommates but besides that everything so far in this journey is good. I know that we all have our fears. I'm a mom and a single mom at that. I just didn't want to do anything that would cause me to not be here for my son. However I was just so glad that I woke up…

Weighed in this morning at 188.4 which for me is a BMI of 24.9 (healthy range). This is down from a high of 412lb on 4/27/17 and a BMI of 54.4 (super obese range). Thats a loss of 223lb (or 101kg). Of this 102lb was pre op. I know how long this journey is for each and every one of you, I really do. It is so easy to get discouraged and have your mental stability rolled by one bad weigh in. Feeling your progress is never enough, never quick enough, that you are failing etc. There are very few easy days and in this battle against yourself there really is nowhere to hide. However, it can be done, Things I have learned along the way. One weigh in means very little. The tr…

I was overwhelmed in the beginning with all the mandatory requirements. Seventeen various appointments later and its almost time for my tired and heavy body to find the peace that my entire being has longed for. There will be hope where there was none. With "hope" the small dim light inside will shine as bright as the Eastern Star. November 19th..there will be a revival of my soul.

I'm absolutely SHOCKED at how many times I get hit on now vs before weight loss. Is that how normal people have to live?! It was nice at first but honestly it stresses me out and distracts me now. HOW DO I FIX THIS. Anyone else going through the same thing? It took me a while to realize all those people have been mildly flirting till my friend pointed it out because I just thought everyone was nice (I recently moved to a new city lol). It's ridiculous because I never thought my looks had *that* much to do with it. Jeez. It's not like I'm more confident now or anything either.

I’m curious to know what a typical sushi/sashimi meal looks like for you post-sleeve. I had a cup of miso soup and 4 pieces of sashimi - 2 salmon and 2 tuna. I feel satisfied. Before surgery I would eat soup, half a tempura appetizer, and one to two sushi rolls. Just curious to know what your portions of this meal looks like!

That is the question. Upon close examination of my eating habits, I find that I am more likely to snack and feel head hunger when I eat breakfast within an hour of waking vs. many many hours later. This was true for me pre-op, but my nut and docs were adamant that I include breakfast in my daily diet. I have eaten 1 scrambled egg white, 3oz of turkey sausage coins, and 3oz of caramalized onion/sauteed mushrooms every day since introducing "real" food again. I wake up at 6am and eat no later 7am, even if I'm not feeling hungry. On the very few days I don't have time to make myself breakfast I pack an extra yogurt, head out the door, and forget about food until ab…

Hi, I joined this forum last week and have found it so interesting and much more informative than what I can get anywhere else. Therefore, when I started noticing comment about acid reflux and the sleeve, I paid close attention because reflux is something I have struggled with for a long time. Mine gets so bad that it shoots into my throat and triggers something that makes it close. I can’t breathe and I struggle to get my throat to open enough for even a tiny bit of air so I don’t pass out. It is traumatic and has forced me to change things, like the way I sleep and the foods I eat, to try to make it better, which it has been. That, and the medications I take every d…

I was sleeved and had my hernia repair on sept 19. So im about 7 weeks out. Started at 180lbs. Now at 139. I was admitted to the hospital for dehydration. After an X-ray with barium showed my swallowing is normal. I was sent home. My surgeon is in Vegas. And I live in Reno. i feel like I can’t swallow. It is so painful. Even just water. I’m so thirsty. But simply can not get it down. When I do, I lay in pain for about an hour. As happy as I am with the results, I can’t live like this. Why does it hurt so bad? I did liquid diet. Tried to move to soft foods. And everything just hurts. I use gas x. Heartburn meds on o…

Hi all. I've been around here for about 8 months reading and posting here and there. I've done everything needed aside from pre op testing. Waiting on sleep study results. From reading my Aetna coverage- if I'm understanding it correctly- I will be covered 100% but be responsible for $150 a night at hospital . I'm so upset that I haven't lost anything during this pre op time. Ok 5 lbs. I keep asking the dr office for a tentative date. Apparently I'll get one once I meet with the surgeon again. I've read so much on here. I would like to think I'm ready but still nervous. I know it's normal. I've had one surgery in my life. Gallbladder removal. I hope it's like that. Painf…

So I’m 8 Days postop sleeve. One of my biggest worries was being in the unfortunate statistic group of people that developed reflux. My question is, when did reflux start for you after you had your sleeve? Immediately postop? A month? 6 weeks? I’m just wondering if there it a specific time that needs to pass before I know if I’m ‘in the clear’ so to speak.

I am about 7 weeks post-op and have been having a few issues, but the most pressing one is handling holidays. The stress and pressure plus the constant stream of holiday treats everywhere... I have not broken down and eaten anything bad yet, but it is getting harder. Any advice? *My one-month post-op showed I was only down seven pounds, which was stunning to me since I had been living on applesauce and protein shakes. Adding exercise helped but I find it so hard to do it every day and I don't know why? I feel like the weight is coming off really slowly and I've heard that's better for your skin, but I also feel like there's something wrong with me for not losing the …

I was attending one of my group sessions last week and a person who had had a gastric sleeve two years ago spoke at the meeting. The person said the first nine months were a dream come true with a weight loss of 125 lbs and reaching goal. This person went on to state that taking the weight off went pretty much to the surgeons plan. At first, this person measured and weighed all foods, made sure to eat proteins first and did not mix water with food and did moderate exercise such as parking the car away from the building and walking the stairs. By the one year mark old habits started to creep back. The need to eat processed foods and snacks came back. Why? Because goal weig…

Hello, I got my surgery date today. It is December the 13th, but because of a previous surgery I was told that I am not a candidate for the sleeve but I can get the gastric bypass. I have spent the last few months researching gastric sleeve. I understand the difference with the surgery procedure but is the diet and weight loss the same. Has any one on here got the bypass and wished they would have got the sleeve. I'm a little nervous about this surgery.

So I'm 6 weeks out (tomorrow). I haven't been perfect with my post-op diet, but damn have I been close! Until tonight. I binged on tortilla chips. I had probably 30 to 35 chips. I fit them all in within probably a 30 minute period and didn't even feel that bad. I felt really full, but I wasn't sick or anything. I wish my sleeve was pickier sometimes. I wish I didn't know I could fit 35 tortilla chips in my sleeve. I can't believe I did that. I think it started with allowing myself to have 2 cups of popcorn at work today. I started really craving the salt and it seems that I backslid into lack of control very quickly. I've already been in a 10 day stall. (…

I will finish my 90 day preop visits in Jan. When I met the surgeon in October he asked what surgery I was considering. I said the bypass due to my 1 year history with significant reflux (I have to take meds or I am miserable, I have cut out caffeine and carbonated drinks as well.). I also have a history of DM in my family (not me yet but I am prediabetic and bypass is supposed to decrease DM more than the sleeve. However now that surgery is getting closer I'm getting cold feet about the bypass and thinking maybe I should just get the sleeve. It freaks me out about malnutrition and increased side effects etc. Then I think about how I have researched about relfux bei…

1wk today since I was sleeved. Lost 10lb on clear liquids. Decided to start some exercise by walking 1mile using Leslie Sansone's YouTube video. Nearly fainted by the end of it but made it. My BP was 105/60! Decided to move to full liquids and shipped one carton of Premier protein. No problems so far. I feel so good and so proud of myself that I made the right choice going for VSG. I wish I have done it earlier.

I'm on day 3 post o.p. and doing well. I stepped on the scale, just like my doctor said NOT to do. Totally reminded me of being at my heaviest (at least heaviest recorded weight). it we at Weight Watchers, 365. I had to be taken from the "regular" scales to the industrial supper-fat scale in a stinky back room. I felt so bad, too fat for weight watchers. Never again, my friends, never again. I plan to live a healthy lifestyle. I hope not to get preachy or like a "dry drunk". I'll be working toward erasing (aka coming to terms with) bad-fat experiences. Anyone else??

Okay let me preface this by saying I am a water fiend. I drink so much water that I am fairly sure I slosh. Be that as it may, I do notice that if I drink too much on an empty stomach I get mild heartburn. I usually take a prilosec maybe once a month and it goes away pretty much instantly but it is always because of water. Does this happen to anyone else?

I’m 6 weeks post op today. As a gift I treated myself to a spin class. My first one in a long time! I’ll admit I wasn’t sure I’d make it through the 55 minute class but my 247 pound body did! I was the biggest in the room for sure but I didn’t care! I was there for me and only me! I feel fing fantastic!!!! The instructor is one I like a lot. She’s very motivating and pushed us to focus on why we were there! What we wanted and reminded me that nothing changes overnight! I can’t wait to go back Friday! If you’ve never tried a spin class, I encourage you to. You work at your own pace and you feel awesome when you’re done!

Well, on the other side of things now and really this has been a breeze. Yes, the gas pain was not very fun but other than that, I really don't have any complaints. My Doctor has me on 4 weeks of a liquid diet. I am 3 weeks in, thank God, and SO ready to chew something other than a vitamin! I'm ready for the puree stage but also nervous. I haven't been successful in getting the ideal protein amount per day yet. I have been choking down the protein shakes but I feel like I have to have a cup permanently attached to my hand to get in all the fluids in and so far, that's going so so. Any tips or suggestions so I might be able to get the 60g and going forward with the post op…
