So something weird just happened to me. I finished dinner a while ago and decided to have a SF Popsicle. About halfway though the SF Popsicle I had to stop. I felt like I had trapped air in my airways. And then came the pressure and burping to get it all out. Almost like I started liquids all over again at the beginning. Anybody have any idea what may have caused that? I have had SF Popsicles before and never had it happen. It was a really weird sensation and I would like to try and avoid it in the future but not really sure what caused it to begin with.

Hi, I have a VSG scheduled for December but I'm still in doubt if I should go for a bypass! I'm 297lb -and 6.0 tall - BMI 39 I was sure about getting a VSG but my endoscopy exam has the following: light esophagitis / Barrett's Esophagus - GERD . To be honest I don't feel anything related to it but I read a lot of articles and comments that VSG is not good for who has reflux. My doctor checked the exam and said would be ok proceed with VSG. I went to another doctor to get a second opinion, he saw my exame and right away said better get a bypass! Next week I will return to my doctor and talk again and might change to bypass. What you guys think? Anyone …

I’m pre-op and have my final weigh in on the 17th. I’m 10 lbs away from the pre-op weight they set for me. We’re required to lose 7% of our total weight in 3 months which was about 23 lbs for me. I’m struggling so hard. I’m a Dispatcher for a police department and we constantly have cake, pizza, donuts, etc being brought in almost daily. The temptation to eat the sweets is almost unbearable. I know this is a mind game. I want this more than I’ve ever wanted anything in my entire life. But I cannot seem to simply say “no.” Anyone have any tips or have been through this before their surgery too?

Not only do I share a house with my husband, but this cold too. My surgery is December 12 and I got sick two days ago. Though, in hindsight, I could see it a mile away. I thought it was just "allergies," but I was naive then. When I was at work and my throat started to hurt, I knew something was up. The next day I was fatigued and my throat hurt badly, so I stayed home and slept it off. Since then I've returned to work and am currently dealing with mild-moderate cold symptoms (post nasal drip, productive cough to rid my throat of the stuff gathering there, a bit sniffly) but definitely not feverish and the mucus (TMI) is nice and clear for right now. I told…

  17. I am on day 4 of the two week pre-op liver shrinking diet (my surgery date is Dec 18th) and I feel like I have been hit by a train. I am sluggish and tired and starving (we are only allowed 3 protein shakes a day and then two sf jellos and two sf popsicles. I am taking all my supplements and drinking all my water, but I have no energy. Is this what is feels like post-surgery when I will also be eating this little in calories? If so this is horrible, I can barely function. I need some reassurance that this will get better post-surgery. Especially on the energy front. The hunger I could handle but I know many people say you aren't hungry anymore post surgery. The s…

Just curious for those of you who have already had the surgery, did any of you join weight watchers to keep you on track? Or for accountability? Or anything of that sort? I'm 2 years/4 months out and originally lost 100 lbs in the first 7 months, then stalled for over a year, then gained back 30 of those pounds. I know that I let bad habits creep back in and it's totally my fault. But I'd like to get back on track and feel that maybe WW will keep me on my toes. I'm just curious how the plan actually works for someone who already has had the surgery? I just feel like I need that weekly meeting and some accountability. Anyone?

  19. I had the gastric sleeve surgery on October 23. Here are some of the things I've been going through. At the end of three weeks post-op, I had severe diarrhea for two days. Imodium stopped that, but it was miserable. I do still get some nausea once in a while. I get full so fast, but I still look at pizza and other problem trigger foods and still want them. I thought that desire was supposed to go away. I do believe I will eat pizza again, however, it will be thin crust with veggies and about 1/2 slice. Soup is still good for me and some whole wheat crackers with some peanut butter. I know I'm supposed to eat protein first, then vegetables, but right now, those thi…

Hi friends, I’m two weeks post-op for VSG and have been VERY tired the whole time. I have needed midday marathon naps, and it’s been consistently every day. Interested in hearing from anyone else who may have felt this way. I’m a sing person, live alone, and have a pretty quiet life and not driving yet. I have been walking my dog on short walks. Thanks in advance!

I was sleeved on 11/21. I Don’t eat. Not that I’m proud of that. I try to take down as much water as I can. I eat broth, protein shakes (well 1 a day). I’ve been going to the gym, now granted I’m walking on the treadmill. Trying to move more than before. Sorry I’m ranting. My question is, how the hell since 11/21 have I only lost 6 pounds? I feel so dejected. Was this surgery a a huge mistake?

Not much different between 12 to 13 months except for no reason at all I started dropping weight again instead of maintaining. Currently 153lbs. Anemia is ever present, knew I would be so I will resume IV treatments for that. Missing the summer, need a vacation from the cold. I'm always cold. Food choices are pretty constant, I'm boring and don't really need a lot of variation just rotation of my usual suspects. No clue what clothing size I really wear but it's between a small and medium, 6-8 totally depends on cut and designer. Dumping and food comas still occurs for me, random things like nut, meat, yogurt (lol, whatever) very mild reflux depending o…

I don’t have a specific date yet (getting it at Dec 11 appt) but was told Dec 21 would be a possibility or the 26-28. I would like to have both holidays worked into my vacation days from work (25, Jan 1) so getting it on the 21st is appealing. Plus, not many people know I’m getting it so it will be less noticeable that I’m not working over the holidays. On the other hand, I love going to Christmas Eve service at my church with my family and I’ll still need to cook a few items for Christmas dinner. No way of knowing if I’ll be up to doing either of these things. What are others thoughts about these dates?

HI Sleevers! I am 11 days post op and for the past 24 hours I have been experiencing periodic stomach pains that make me stop in my tracks, hunch over, and say awe. It all started after I tried a bariatric advantage chewy vitamins and the stomach pains came. I experience the pain on the left side of the stomach. I have called the doctor and they are not concerned but I am not drinking or eating because it increases the pain. I will be going in for IV fluids. Have anyone else experienced this? * I have pooped twice in one day on day one of the pain.

So I've lost 64lbs with WLS. I lost 20lb on my own so 84lbs all together. However, I dont see it! Everyone else sees the transformation and I still see the 313lb me! I dont get it. Yes, my clothes are big on me. Yes, my energy is better but the mirror says the same to me. Anyone else have this issue? Should I seek counseling? I keep loosing weight, following the diet the best I can but feel very confused.

I'm 8 weeks post-op and I have been hungry the whole freaking time. Every dang day. Until earlier this week when it just... stopped. I'm hopeful, but also a little worried because I'm dealing with some serious constipation that may have lowered my appetite due to being so backed up. Did anyone else get a late start to the "never hungry" party? It's like someone flipped a switch but I'm hoping it sticks around!

One of the biggest thing that I am concerned about as I begin this journey is regain. I promised myself while I was laying on that table that I was not going to ever do this to myself again. I promised myself that I was going to work on the things that I needed to work on that I am no longer going to use food as my lover as my companion as my confidant. So to ensure that I continue on this journey I decided that I was going to go public. It is so easy to stay behind the scenes but I know myself. So today I made a YouTube video and now it's kind of crazy and it's not really for other people is just for me to Chronicle my journey and to keep myself accountable. I know this …

Hey everyone, so I can’t believe 3 months have passed since my surgery. I thought I would be on this site a lot after my surgery. I took a break because I became so obsessive of what everyone’s progress was. Why wasn’t I moving that same pace etc. since surgery I have most 40 pounds, total pounds since my highest weight 57 pounds. Started at 311 back in March now I’m 252. I have a long way to my goal. I am taking each day as it comes! Long journey ahead of me.

  43. Started by QuakerOat8,

Hi everyone! My surgery date is about 11 days away and I've got some serious last minute nerves and I just need some reassurance that this will be worth it. I'm having to pay for the entirety of my surgery myself because I don't qualify with my insurance, and the idea of spending upwards of $20,000 on anything seems insane right now. I mean I can't think of anything I'd rather spend money on than my own happiness, but still, it's a hard pill to swallow. I've also dieted successfully on my own before, lost 30, 40, 50, even 60 pounds and gained all the weight back after a year or so, so I'm afraid the same thing will happen after surgery and it will all be for nothing. I'm …

My band has caused discomfort from day one and recently I have been having issues with things getting stuck more than normal and vomiting. I went to the dr who placed the band and they did all the normal test and everything seems ok. She agreed to let me convert to the sleeve. They are going to be submitting to my insurance and hoping I get approved. Some questions I have, how long were you all out of work? I work a desk job with the option of working at home so I could …

OK, never thought this would be an issue but here it is. I'm 114.2 pounds today. That's a loss of 132 pounds from where I started, and I'm 5'-7.5" tall. I have no butt and my pubic bone is protruding. I've lost the fat pads in my face and look gaunt. It's not that attractive on an older woman, trust me. I've had a stomach bug the last 4 or 5 days, so have not been able to eat and will lose a pound a day if I can't eat. This isn't good. My skinny pants are getting lose and I'm a size 26 in pants now. I can't eat junk because it makes me ill, so I have to eat good stuff only. It's an interesting place to be. My friends are saying I look TOO THIN; people think I'm ill. Wonde…

It seams to me that it would keep them feeling full longer also. But not sure of the facts. So does anyone know?

Hey guys! This past Monday I finally got sleeved and I am having so much trouble finding ways to get my protien in! During the pre-op diet I guzzled down protein shakes (even though they made me gag) but now I’m post-op and I’ve tried the premier protien clear and it’s disgusting! I also wanted to know if any one had any tips for broth! I drank it fine pre-op but now even the mere thought of broth makes me gag! I’ve been living on sugar free popsicles for the past 3 days! Help! Does anyone have any recommendations on ways to get my protein and broth in during the clear liquid stage??

  50. Hi All, VGS is a tool.....not a cure. Most long-term morbid obesity sufferers who have failed to lose and/or maintain weight-loss have emotional eating disorders. Most people who have VGS that do not address the emotional issues are much more likely to fail at weight loss and improving their health. Reading the research and spending a lot of time reading the accounts of others makes this very apparent. Finding a good therapist with a background in eating disorders is the best path to take to assure your long-term success. I'm working with one now. I've come across some materials that can be very helpful. In fact, these are materials that can be used as a self-…
