Last week I was attending a group session when one of the group members said that he went to a steak house to celebrate his birthday and he ate a steak. He had gastric sleeve surgery in early November. He said the steak was so tender that he could eat it without a problem. The other group members looked at each other puzzled. How could this guy eat a steak less than two month post op from a gastric sleeve? I was sleeved close to a year and a half ago and I still can't tolerate steak. Pre op I would scarf down a 32oz porterhouse with no problem and then order dessert. He then said that we shouldn't be ashamed to ask for a doggie bag as he went to a restaurant a fe…

So, I'm taking the Bariatric Fusion vitamins - you take 4 a day, at least 2 hours apart. While I usually space them throughout the day, my NUT said it was OK to take 2 together. So, here's my dilemma - I ran out of vitamins at work, so I took one this AM, then 2 when I got home at 9PM. I won't be awake at 11. I can't decide if I go ahead and take another around 10 to get my 4 in today, or assume its too much too close together so the last med won't absorb? Any advice? thanks! PS - already packed a week's worth of vitamins to take to work tomorrow so this won't happen again.

This is my surgeon, Stephen Scott, doing a sleeve gastrectomy. He performed a gastric bypass on me... but for those of you who may be curious, check it out. Dr. Scott spends a lot of time training other doctors here and abroad on various surgical techniques. https://jnjinstitute.com/online-profed-resources/resources/gastric-sleeve-power-echelon-and-stratafix-stephen-scott-md?target_id

As I continue on in my post op phases, it’s crazy to me how different the plans are for the phases. Like I’m day 19 post op and doing the blended purée phase that lasts two weeks. I see some folks, same timeline, already on to soft foods. Some things that folks are allowed to eat, I’m told to never eat again. I figured there would be more standardization in this. Boy was I wrong!!

I had my surgery 3 weeks ago. I immediately started to lose weight and lost about 20lb in the first two weeks. For the last week though, I’ve stayed exactly the same or gained weight. I don’t understand why this is happening. I am doing everything I am supposed to be doing and I am getting incredibly down. All of my mental and physical energy is consumed with making sure I am successful with this new lifestyle. Making sure I am drinking enough, eating the right things at the right times. Not lifting things too heavy. My Docotor said not to be concerned because they don’t really start tracking weight loss until after the first 30 days. He said that the body is …

So I am officially 5 weeks post-op today. This past weekend my wife and I moved into a larger place where our kids could all have their own bedrooms. I was somewhat frustrated by the fact that I couldn’t really help moving a lot of things and had to rely on the movers, family, and friends to do much more than I could. By the second day of moving I had reached my end. The 600 calories I’m taking in with the post-op soft foods diet just gave me no energy to do much of anything. That night I had a bit of a break down. Like most of us I’ve had varying success of losing the same 20, 40, or 80 pounds over and over again. With every successful diet attempt I’ve tried …

I’m currently 3 days out of gastric sleeve surgery and having extreme buyers remorse. Why did I do this? The pain is unbearable without meds. I cant drink anything without pain. It hurts to breath. I feel like I’m gonna die if I don’t eat because they push the fact that you need to eat every 15mins. So if I don’t eat will I die? I had to travel 8 hours to get my “day” surgery. I ended up back in the hospital the day I was released because I was vomiting everything I injested. I’m heading home tomorrow and because I was told to walk a lot my trip will now take 12 plus hours. Oh and I have no desire to eat or drink anything.

My mom is deathly afraid of me having bypass. She doesn't nag me or preach to me, but some comments she makes give me the impression that she's freaking out on the inside. Thanks to this forum and other sources I'm loaded with knowledge, more than I can share with her in one sitting or in terms she can grasp. That knowledge has alleviated my fear of the surgery and the life after. How I can help my mom understand that this surgery is not going to make me wither away and die?

Sleevers I feel ashamed of myself. I am 4 months out and I can eat a whole grilled cheese! I mentioned to the nutritionist that I had ate a grilled cheese, she was like, "You can't eat the whole thing can you?" Oh Yes I can, does this mean I have stretched my pouch? I'm so scared now.

Well I didn’t behave over my holiday break. I went to visit family over New Years weekend and didn’t self monitor my fluid intake. I leisurely sipped on coffee and maybe a glass or two of water. After 5 days I returned to work and promptly got hot, dizzy, and lightheaded. Tried for a couple days to catch up and it happened again. So today I get to go get 2 liters of IV fluids. Keep up with your fluids peeps! Especially when you change your routine.

I was at my heaviest in 2014, I always had a smile on my face and felt somewhat confident for the most but deep down inside I wasn’t happy with my overall health because I knew it was only going to get worse if I didn’t make some serious changes. I finally took back control of my life on 8/29/18. WLS One of the best decisions that I’ve made for myself and going forward. ?

Time seems to be speeding by... 14 months since surgery , current bmi 28 weight 158lbs (couple lbs gain from vacation foods, expected and proud to know that it's not going to cause anxiety) , so return to stricter habits. I promised to be transparent so I always update my weight up and down... Almost everything remains the same health wise, etc finished latest rounds of Iron infusion, honestly still feel the same. But I'll see what the deal is at the end of the month. Still a very good decision

Most mornings its hard to just eat breakfast without feeling sick first. I pop in two women’s multi gummy vitamins. After that its breakfast and I constantly have to rotate my choices. Rather it be eggs or oatmeal. I have to move it around. Im going into week 4 post op. So solids for me. Im sleeved and loving it. Still some getting use to. Like figuring out im full. Because stuffing causes pain. Also the burps to satisfy the food right after eating. Protein drinks are a no go since surgery. Im 12/17/18 ❤️

Hello! It’s been a bit since I’ve been on here. I had the sleeve on June 27, 2016. I lost 100 pounds, had a baby, gained about 40. I’m starting weight watchers now and hopefully going to get pregnant again. Anyone in a similar situation??

I was sleeved on 11/29/18. I looked through the Food Phase 1, 2 & 3 guide the surgeon's office gave me but it says nothing about when we could start eating salads or raw veggies again. I remember the nutritionist saying all my veggies had to be steamed or cooked till soft, but for how long? I really want a salad with grilled chicken or shrimp.

I had my VSG on Dec. 4, 2013. Ootpatient. Overall, I lost ~ 90 pounds, but alas, I have regained 20, and currently, am not still in "Onederland." I am not happy with that--as in bummed!!!. But this week, I am sticking to protein and working hard to avoid bad carbs. Pray for me, 'cuz I was really happy at the near 175 weight and a size 10 or so (down from a 22). I WILL get back to 180 or so. I WILL. How are the rest of my December 2013 sleevers doing? Share your stories and if any struggles. Share pics if you choose. Let's still be helpers one to another. And despite all--even if any slip-ups--congratulations on what I trust has been a slimmer, happier life, post-VSG …

I haven't seen anyone else post about this so I'll put it out there. I'm 10 days post-op and don't see my surgeon again until January. Almost immediately after surgery I noticed a palm sized numb area on my outer right thigh , at the time I chalked it up to the rock hard hospital bed. However it's persisted for 10 days and this past Saturday when slept on my right side I woke up with a really sharp pain when I moved my leg that went away in about 5 seconds. I also occasionally get "pin and needles" type sensations in the same area no consistency in what triggers it. Anyone experience anything similar?

Hello Peeps, I have a female friend from church that was sleeved around the same time as me. She has lost a ton of weight and looks like a totally different person. I asked her how she has been been so successful, is it diet? or exercise? counting calories? counting carbs? She told me that she only counts her calories and that she only takes in 800 calories per day. How is that even possible? I dont understand how you can take in that few of calories and not be hungry throughout the day. What do you guys think about that? Doesnt that seem like it would be hard to do?

I had my VSG on 11/19. I lost a good bit of weight for the first 4 weeks or so, but have basically been at the same weight for the last 2.5 weeks. I am eating about 1100 calories per day, getting in 64+ oz of water and hitting my 80+ grams of protein daily. I go to the gym 3 times a week.

Hey Everyone, I'm new to the forum and my sleeve surgery is scheduled for the first week in April. I was hoping to get some advice on what your post op hospital stay was like? The hospital I am going to is about an hour away from home so we wont be able to come back and forth. My husband is going to stay with me the whole time. What advice do you have on what to pack for me and him? How long did you stay at the hospital? Did you have visitors? Anybody have a longer ride home? Just trying to get some ideas since we will be farther away. Thank you! This forum has already given me such great ideas and advice to help calm some of my nerves.

Woke up this morning with the lowest energy. tried to get up and do a couple things around the house but I can't. I haven't felt this way since surgery. I wear a fitbit and have been getting around 7,000 steps walking the dogs twice a day. But today, I can't do much. Is this normal??? 10 days since my surgery. Over all my fluid intake hasn't been a problem. I drink more water now, and like it, than before surgery. Can't understand why protein is so difficult. I'm still on liquid diet until this Thursday ( can't wait) my doctor said I should be drinking 2 protein shakes a day. I can only complete 1. Yesterday I ordered some protein powder online and it will be here T…

I just received notice that my surgeon has canceled my sleeve surgery because I have a 4cm hiatus hernia. I'm shocked. I understood hernias were repaired during this surgery. Anyone, please give me hope! Is this just an oddity to my surgeon, or cannot a hiatus hernia of this size be repaired? I am devastated, to say the least.

Surgery planned 12/17 for VSG. I’m somewhat new to this forum and enjoy reading posts but see that many of the threads are pretty self limiting- I’m looking for a few people with dates in the same week as me to really connect, support and keep each other motivated over the long run. Suggestion? I’m willing to create a group text chat or any other type of chain email communication for us to stay connected as we begin the journey!

Blood pressure went sky high today and wound up in ER. Found out you can't chew blood pressure medications they don't work as well with the body and being dehydrated on top of it all. Doing better after iv fluids and dr precautions of blood pressure medication to drop BPdown quickly in an emergency. Home trying to keep my fluids going. My doctor was right. It's a 16 to 18 hour day to keep hydration in place. I think for me it's harder getting my meds down... I have soooooo many.... arghhh

Hello! Looking for POST op lap band to sleeve support. I was sleeved in May of 2018 and my surgeon advised that weight loss will be slow because of prior lap band surgery. She was right! My starting weight day of sleeve was 222lbs and 8 months later at 185 lbs (total 35 lbs down) Im also very embarrassed to admit that my eating habits are bad with very poor choices which I'm sure has contributed to the slow weight loss. Looking for some new friends who understand and can help motivate and encourage each other. I'm READY to reset and start over again NOW! LETS DO THIS

I live in the Florida Keys. I’m going to be having the sleeve surgery on March 5th with Dr. De La Cruz Munoz at university of Miami. Up until recently no one in the keys did the surgery. There is one dr now but our hospital is horrific and I would never even consider it. So I will be traveling 3 hours for my surgery. I have been going back and forth to Miami since my initial visit in late August. Just curious if anyone else has had the procedure or is in the process in south Florida.
