Hi there, I’m new to this site and 4 weeks post-op. I came across an article that said bariatric surgery puts us at risk of bone loss/weakness and also makes us more susceptible to fractures. Is this true? Does the calcium we take protect our bones?

  2. Started by Losing the old Harley,

(Admin delete if not allowed) I was sleeved in June of 2018. I’m a little over 7 months PO, 72kg down. I can’t believe the difference! When I was fresh out of my surgery I found it to be, at times, a struggle with knowing what to do and what not to do. There was conflicting posts everywhere. I’ve been studying nutrition for the last 12 months pre and post op and have worked alongside my dietician very closely and had great results. I’ve learnt so much when it comes to Health and Fitness which has helped me have such a great result in a short period of time. I have decided to share the things I have learnt to other people in hopes I can ease some of the confusio…

I am new to this forum, which I have learned a lot from other posts and just now got the nerve to post. I decided to post because my surgery is March 18 and will need the support other than my family which is very supportive. I have read a lot of posts and have learned a lot which made me more confident in my decision. I am looking forward to meeting new friends who will understand the journey as they have been through it.

  5. Hello - I'm looking to get the VSG surgery within the next few months. Could someone confirm if they have had surgery at this hospital or know someone who has? If not, can you recommend any hospitals in Turkey or Eastern Europe?

  9. Was unsure how to title this but well...I'm a newbie here, but a long time lurker. Thing is, I've been going through this whole process for over a year. Jumped through all the hoops. Have to go for another meeting with the nutritionist on Monday. Insurance hasn't approved me yet, so kind of in limbo. Full disclosure, I'm also experienced with WLS. I have a failed lap band that I'll be getting removed. I also have a hietal (sp?) hernia that causes me to choke and vomit food up that I'll be getting fixed. Plus, I need my gallbladder removed. That's a proud family tradition of mine, lol. So I'll be getting about....four procedures rolled into one. My type 2 Diabetes is …

Hey ya'll, I am almost 4 weeks PO and I'm dwn 27 lbs but I have hit a stall and trying not to get worried but we know that's hard. How long will the stall usually last? I have been eating lesser, but drinking more water. Especially since starting back to school and work. I started bck walking today on my lunch break, so hopefully this stall will move that scale and ruler for that matter.

Question for my "old timers" I had surgery in 2011 and then moved 1000 miles away. I could not find a surgeon in my new location that would see me, they all told me the same thing we didn't do your surgery so we don't want to responsibility for your care. So my PCP I have seen some articles about the new post op guidelines and they seem so different from what I was told. Such as no steroids, no NSAIDS, no blind NG tubes, and so on. Are there more things? Have your surgeons told you any updates like this? I feel in the dark and when I Google it there is many conflicting reports

  14. Hello, I am new to the forum, and was wondering if anyone has had similar experiences. I had my sleeve surgery one week ago, Friday, January 11th 2019. After 2 days in the hospital with TERRIBLE gas pain, I was back at work with very little pain by Monday. By Tuesday, I had no problem drinking 64oz of water by 3PM. By Wednesday, my fondest wish in the universe, even more than world peace, was for an iceberg lettuce wedge salad with crumbled blue cheese, blue cheese dressing, split baby tomatoes, and crumbled bacon. This morning at work, before finding this forum, I did my usual pattern for this week. I googled "pictures of wedge salads" and fantasized. I now have a n…

Good Morning All, I'm due to have my VSG surgery abroad in the Czech Republic in September. There's a huge stigma around getting surgery abroad, especially when we have the National Health Service where I live in the UK. I chose to have the surgery abroad because it's cheaper and the conditions of the hospitals are at a high standard, however, it hasn't stopped my family from pleading me not to go. What have your experiences been like? Would you have surgery abroad? How did your family react?

  23. Hello, After 2 years of waiting I have an appointment at the bariatric clinic next month. I'm wondering what I can expect when I go for my appointment? My doctor asked if I wanted a referral a couple years ago and I said that I would but now that the time has come I'm not sure what I'm in for. I'm assuming this appointment is far from meaning I am qualified? I'm worried to get my hopes up and then go only be to be told it was a 2 year wait for nothing.

Hey y’all! I’m 3 mo the post-op VSG. I suffer from allergies but never took anything for fear of interaction with my other medicine and also because I have high blood pressure. My surgeons office said to take stuff without nsaids. What are your go to allergy medication ( oTC or prescription) do y’all take post op and with high blood pressure? I dont have the typical itch eyes or sneezing. Just pain in my face and in my sinus above my eyes. Been taking Tylenol but may need to look into allergy meds. TIA

Has anyone tried vitamin patches? What has your experience been? I'm having a hard time taking my supplements as they make me sick to my stomach...I just heard about the patches and am considering trying those. I would love to hear anyone with experience with the patches. Thanks!

I’m starting to get excited and nervous, first appointment today. I scheduled all the other appointments with the required drs. If all goes well will be having surgery end of February beginning of March. I am looking forward to be able to go down the stairs without my knees or back aching.

  27. So, on Monday I started the two weeks liquid diet (required by my physician). I am so prepared to surgery. We hosted an impromptu party for my daughter and I was not tempted by the pizza, cake, and ice cream. I am so proud of myself!! I have been prepping my foods (3 shakes, I bar, I soup) and have navigated the hunger pitfalls. I have loss 16 pounds on my own - excited to see how much I will lose during the two week process. 1/28 here I come!

This clear liquid is not great. Nothing after midnight tonight and surgery isn't until 2:15 pm. Crazy but I'm pushing thru. I've done so much laundry. Netflix is my friend. I need to try and sleep to make the time pass

Every single time I take a very small sip of water it hurts me so bad. I don't have trouble swallowing the water it's after I swallow that starts to hurt. I have tried ice cold water, room temp, and even hot water but nothing seems to work.

  30. So I was reading about celebrities who had dramatic weight loss and when they were interviewed about losing weight most of them said in response to weight loss critics " I lost weight the 'healthy and old fashioned way',.. this really made me mad. I have tried for YEARS to do it the healthy and "old fashioned way"... surgery is just a tool. Do any of these people realize how insanely healthy we will have to eat in order to be successful? And exercise? Ughh... sorry to vent.

I’ve been struggling lately with to much eating or eating the wrong thing. Still not eating a lot just getting past Christmas. I’ve had some issues with digestion like everyone else and a previous (TMI warning) anal fissure. Miralax instead of Stool softeners are being used. If it wasn’t for the fissures I would use more fiber. I would like to get back on track and I feel it starts this week. My late night 32oz of tea is not helping Got to cut it out. I’m trying more KETO oriented diet. Body Tech protein every morning I love the cinnamon cereal. I was just checking how is everyone else doing.

I feel honored and privileged to learn more about the bariatric pal community and the courage, resolve and authenticity you regularly share. While very much a rookie in all this... I do hope, I too, can be of value and an encouragement to others. Question: I continue to experience an odd sensation upon my shoulders, especially when preparing meals, walking any distance or i.e. wrapping a present yesterday on the kitchen island. It feels like a ton of pressure weighing down on my entire body. I did have tremendous pain in the left shoulder from the drainage tube days after surgery. It was not gas. I ne…

Im 4 weeks post op. I think I’m eating way too fast despite eating relatively small bites and chewing a ton. How long should it take me to eat, let’s say, 2 string cheese sized-cheese sticks with a slice or two of ham or turkey deli meat? Should it take me a half an hour? Or like 10 minutes? I feel like I’m rushing because my stomach is making gurgling noises after so I know Im really rushing it.

  36. I’m 1 week post-op today, and it is already very easy to drink my clear fluids. I’m easily getting in my 64 ounces daily and then some as I am a big water drinker. I am concerned that where it is so easy to swallow and drink fluids , I could unknowingly stretch my stomach. My PA told me my stomach acts as a funnel and then fluids are going right through , but I just wanted to ask if this is normal 1 week post op. Not that I’m complaining that it doesn’t hurt anymore , I just know they said I would have to sip my 1 ounce every 15 minutes and that ended on day 5!

  43. Hey all, super new here ! I have been struggling with getting the help from google, or locals who have been sleeved, so I am looking to gather more information to help make the best decision... I was sleeved in June of 2016 - I started at 286lbs, 5ft 6 in tall. Fast forward to now, I am 140lbs, and a BMI in the low 20s. I am active, thin, little loose skin, and LOVING the new life I have been blessed with...for 99% of the time... The kicker is the GERD symptoms I have are out of this world. Hello- I'm 4 months out RNY. I feel like a failure. I try to talk to my NUT but she isn't helpful. I'm not sure what to do. Hopefully there is someone here that will read this post and help me. I have not lost a single pound in over a month and a half. I'm not sure that I'm doing things right. Can someone show me a sample of their daily plan that includes 1000 calories? I'm starting to wonder if that's why I'm not losing weight, because I'm not eating even close to 500-600 calories. It's hard. A lot of things make me sick.... or I forget to eat because I'm busy 24/7.

I am going to call Monday to check. Yes, the gastro Dr. Knows Ive had the sleeve. I sw the phys asst. @ my bariatric center and he says not a problem. Im still concerned because 64oz of water in an hour is not doable.... Anybody?

I had my consultation with the surgeon today and got the ball rolling. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas and really hope I get approved with few issues. I'm surprised how little I have to do to qualify: lab work (done today), an online seminar, one nutrition class, one psychological evaluation, and an endoscopy. I went ahead and scheduled all of it so I should be done in a couple weeks, then the surgeon's office will submit to insurance. They said BCBS usually takes about 2 weeks to approve after you submit everything. Sounds too good to be true so I'm cautiously optimistic. I've been thinking about doing this for a long time and now I want to get it done as quickly …
