Hi there, I recently had my band removed due to several issues since placement in sept 2008. My insurance company revised there policy on their revision surgeries. I had appealed it all the way to the state level in 2012 and denied, they said not medically/clinically necessar . Gained all my weight back since the after having 2 babies. Made an appointment to see my surgeon in July after I found Priority Health's revised policy on a fluke.fHe mentioned the BPD with DS is an option for the "super obese". I had to decide after my appt on Tuesday so they can submit for approval. I went for long term success over safety. With 2 little girls at home, I hope I chose right! Se…

I'm 55 yrs old. I have been on diet after diet since I was 13 yrs old. I was 220 lbs when I got married at 20 yrs old. 35 yrs later before I had this surgery done, I was 337 lbs. I had my surgery done on the 7th of February. It's almost a week since I had it done. My emotions are everywhere. I love food so very much. It's going to be so hard that I can't eat what I want. Like, Indian, arabic, fast food, ice cream, cakes and chocolates. I have four daughter's and 5 grandchildren and a husband that depend on me to be around. I'm really glad that I got This done. I know it will take time to get where I want to be, I just have to be patient and confident. This forum helps a …

So, stepping on the scale I was excited to think that I may have loss at least 10lbs. But as the story of my previous weight loss efforts, great try and effort but still short. It’s been 2 weeks - no complications, getting all my protein and liquids. .... So, 8 lbs sucks, but it’s better than gaining weight. So, I recommit to 64 oz of water (not counting protein shakes); hitting my protein mark, kicking the walking into high gear. Can’t wait to see what my three month visit has in store for me !!

Okay so I was sleeved on 2-6-19. I’m 5’6”, and when I started I weighed 259. I was basically in “maintenance” for 6 months because I couldn’t drop under my 40% BMI, but I ended up losing about 10 pounds and barely qualifying by the skin of my teeth (I also might have had my cell phone and wallet in my pants pocket when I was weighed prior to surgery class). I was pretty gung-ho (zero food funerals) and lost about 6 pounds in the 2 weeks prior to surgery, and my first morning after surgery I was upset when they weighed me and I was up 2 pounds from the day before. Understandable, the nurse (also a sleever) told me. She said , “ I promise you’ll drop 1-1.5 pounds/…

I am a little over a month out from my surgery (3/18) and I am going through a range of emotions. I am nervous about the pain and discomfort following the procedure. I am anxious about getting on this weight loss journey (yet again) and I am trying to wrap my head around how my relationship with food is going to change. Any words of wisdom are appreciated.

Help? Should I go get checked out? I'm 2 weeks post op and both my mother and I mis-read and understood that I could have juice. The second I drank it, not even 15 minutes later I was running to throw it up, and have been throwing up every 5-6 hours since. Not sure if this is something that will pass or if I should go get checked out. Any advice?

Hi. I am new to this forum so please bare with me. I had my sleeve done on 1/5/19 and new this was going to be the greatest thing I’ve ever done in my life other than having my kids. Now I am very emotional, still having horrible gas pains, no BM yet, and wondering if this was the best idea. I’ve done everything that I am suppose to but feel like I am not doing something right. I keep telling myself this too shall pass but not sure I believe it.

So, I have been constantly drinking water and protein shakes and some pudding/jello here and there but it still seems that I am always hungry. I thought 5 days post surgery I would feel fuller more quickly. It’s like the first two days I would take one sip of water and feel full but now I can eat/drink way more and not feel anything. Any idea why or suggestions?

You guys, my hair is falling out like crazy these last 3 weeks. I was intellectually prepared for it. This is a normal happenstance. My bloodwork is good; no nutritional deficiency or hormone imbalances. I’m grateful for that and so fortunate... but the hair loss is so noticeable. I just wasn’t emotionally prepared for it. My hair was already fine and not very thick, so I have really felt the loss of it. I go this weekend for a haircut and some damage control. I have no idea how much I will have to take off but I am dreading it. It’s really just a waiting game for it to come back, but as a woman, this was a little traumatic to deal with and I’m struggling. For those …

What do you all use? I am sure there are threads on here and i have read a lot of them, but i am also sure we have tried many things (as I have) and stuff works for a few days and then doesnt work. I have even followed my surgeons direction. and it stops working after a few days. I can no longer go through this weekly ritual as it is becoming very concerning because even with taking stuff, it is an act of congress to still go. The last two weeks i had to do an enema and.. believe it or not.. today it almost didnt work. I thought i was going to break down in tears and then it worked, but i know there is still some there waiting to be released, hopefully by morn…

This is my first post here, and I'll start by saying that this post in no way is intended to be attention-seeking or anything of the like, but is rather coming from a place of concern. I had surgery on January 9th of this year, and only had minimal upper torso gas pains for a few days that eventually subsided. I felt virtually back to normal by day 3 post-op. I've stuck to everything my nutritionist/doctor have told me to do. At my 5 day post-op follow up I had lost 20.2 pounds. This far exceeded the amount that I or my family thought. I was pleasantly surprised, but that also seemed like a high number. My doctor told me not to worry, and that men typically lose weight fa…

I weigh about 220lbs, my BMI is about 32. I've struggled with my weight all my life. I'm a 45 year old man. I did weigh over 300 lbs once and had dieted back to around 185. I'm currently at 220 lbs and am thinking of VSG to get to my goal (that I never reached while dieting) of 165 lbs. - What does the community think? Is this realistic with VSG? - I'm scared that VSG might make me lose to much weight because my BMI is only around 32. But I'm quite unhappy at my current weight.

Does anyone know if there are soups from restaurants that are allowed on this diet? I’m craving some soup with flavor not just out of the box/can? Also if the soup has chunks and you blend/purée it, is that allowed? I’m in my first week post surgery. Thanks.

I'm a newbie and excited about my upcoming surgery and current lifestyle change. I'm looking forward to using this new tool. Dr. Matthew Weiner, A Pound of Cure, made some fascinating statements about results. He said words to this effect: Post-opers reach a certain "Set Point" weight and that's all. He said that what that point is is largely based on a number of factors including genetics and lifestyle. Initially, genetics is the major determinant of results and then lifestyle plays a more significant role in the long run as to whether or not you regain significantly. Has anyone out there reached and maintained a normal BMI? If you maintain a clean diet, have you staved …

I have now officially lost over 200 lbs in 8 months. Quite the journey. My wife was so impressed with the results she decided to have the surgery in October and is now my workout buddy. We walk 7-10 miles a day and lift weights five days a week. I consider myself about 20-30 lbs away from goal at this point. I understand there is probably more weight to lose than that if I reallt wanted to but I don’t really ever want to be super skinny. I have two little daughters so I prefer the “big enough to kick your butt and small enough to catch you” look for for any future boyfriends. :)

15 Months Post, lots of the same patterns. Routine foods occasionally eating out planned splurges. Calories most days not above 1200 except during luteal phase when I need more. Exercise is walking most of the time but recently started jumping rope again as a part of a challenge. Created a January challenge and gave up protein cookies. I lost a few more lbs. Newest weight is 151. Change in weather means im sick, but running a FEBRUARY challenge. Still a good choice

I am wondering how many calories you folks out there are/were eating at 3 months? A couple weeks ago at my 3-month followup, my nutritionist seemed to be more concerned about volume and wants me to eat x ounces of protein, fats, grains, etc...or at least strive to, since I am apparently not eating close to what she wants me to yet. Now today, my lab work came back and the nurse called to say I'm all good across the board, so I figure I've been eating/doing ok. My body seems to be satisfied with the amount of food/number of calories I've been getting in these days and I don't feel like eating any more than that. Soooo....how many calories where you getting in a…

Hey guys! I'm brand new to the forum, I am 30 years old and weigh about 310 lbs. I was at 400 at my heaviest. I've been struggling to lose weight for the last 4 years, I teach a low impact fitness group three times a week, and still it's a huge struggle to even lose percentages of a pound. The thing that pushed me into that first weight loss was a miscarriage, my husband and I desperately want to start a family. Last summer I finally put in a referral for sleeve surgery after doing some research and having an aunt go through the surgery. Now I am just starting the process, confirmed my interest and will be starting the educational portion. I …

I'm about 4 months out and the last several days have been not good with getting my water in. (I'm a former "chugger" who had no problem getting 64+ each day prior to surgery, but it's a struggle post surgery due to the inability to chug and often feeling full.) I haven't hit 64 ounces per day in a solid week. Some were close (56 ounces) some were terribly far (30 ounces). I'm sure I'm getting dehydrated by this point, and I'm feeling very thirsty but my tummy feels so full I can hardly get anything in. Has anyone else experienced this? Any big tips other than maybe setting a reminder on my Fitbit to sip, sip, sip?

Hello I’m just playing the waiting game right now until I get the pre-op app. call (we are just waiting on my psych eval report to get to my surgeon last week but I don’t know if they have gotten it yet.) Anyways, I am use to drinking close to a gallon of water everyday. If you were like this as well before your surgery, was it hard for you to lessen your amount of water after surgery? (I was told at my nutritionist appointment that my goal is to have 64 oz. a day which is a little for me. I’m worried I’m going to have a hard time with that.

Hi there, I'm brand new to this forum. I apologize if I'm not doing this correctly... I am wanting a gastric sleeve. I'm about 4'7" and I don't know my current weight but it's likely 220 or 230 at this point. I am definitely obese. I'm in a wheelchair. I can't walk at all. I was born with Arthrogryposis. My very limited mobility makes weight loss so difficult. When I try my hardest, I usually manage a 3 lb loss in a month. Then I get discouraged and gain it all right back. It's a messed up cycle. And it doesn't help me at all... I am prone to falling, and with my heavy weight, I end up hurting myself. I struggle to transfer, and I miss being able to transfer without …
