My mom had the bypass surgery years ago and after even after all these years she keeps very little food down. She can keep chips down but no salad or chicken or any kind of meat. There are so few foods she can eat. This scares me. I’m wondering if any of you find you can’t hold down a lot of healthy foods.

I just had my operation on the 14th of this month and I’m already paranoid that I’m not losing weight fast enough? During my pre op diet I was losing about a pound a day...how is it that my weight loss has slowed AFTER surgery even though I’m consuming even less than when I was on the diet? I’m following the post op diet down to the letter - HELP. Am just impatient and paranoid or could it be something I’m doing wrong?

Hi everyone! I'm currently two weeks post OP after my gastric sleeve surgery and I'm finally getting more protein in. (Thank God) but most of the protein is coming from nonfat Greek yogurt, skim milk, soups...which all seem to have at least 5-6 grams of sugar per serving. Like this morning, I slowly had 1/3rd cup of nonfat Greek yogurt, and a 1/4 cup of Rebbl protein shake with a cup of skim milk...after adding it all up, it was 28 grams of protein but 18 grams of sugar. Now I'm worried. I really want to do this right and not mess up. How many grams of sugar have you been eating a day? Thanks!!

I had my switch done on 7Aug18 and I must admit I feel 100% better at this point other than extreme fatigue here and there I’m 5 weeks out and 40 lbs down I know I need to increase my proteins intake I really don’t eat much at all once a day maybe other than that pristine shakes and crystal light and water I have tried salmon and that was fine and I have tried a few other things cooked for me but that desire to eat is not there. I do struggle with moderate diarrhea with burning but not sure if that is something all goes through when I called the med assistant said it’s normal but never said for how long and how long will my gas be wet gas. But over all I am good I go bac…

Today was my EGD. The past week, I've had really bad reflux, so I was nervous going in that he would tell me the sleeve wouldn't work. I think it was probably stress related, because I've also had trouble sleeping the past 2-3 weeks, and I've been getting itchy, which is a big stress indicator for me. Doctor did say I have a small hiatal hernia, which I expected because I was told that years ago, and that he could fix it during surgery. He said I'm still a good candidate for the sleeve! He also did a stomach biopsy to see if I'll need to go on antibiotics before surgery - not sure how common that is. I'm just relieved that the EGD went well!

Hi everyone! I am almost two weeks post op and am about to start stage two of the post op diet (pureed foods). I am having a super hard time finding pretty much anything I can eat. My first week with liquids was very difficult. I was in a ton of pain and literally could not stomach anything at all. Even water had me in tears. Because of that, I couldn't get my daily liquids and proteins easily. I have lost 26 pounds so far but I'm worried that a lot of it is because I have sort of been malnourished the last few weeks. Anyway, I am starting my puree diet on Monday and am really down because I feel there is nothing to eat besides soup. Also, my surgeon says I am not to eat…

Hey everybody, this is my fifth day after a gastric sleeve surgery and today I noticed something which wasn’t there for the last few days. Today it was my first time my urine turned to be bloody or red or dark orange.. is it something I should be concern about? maybe i’m not resting well or my hydration? Should I see a doctor?

I'm having an internal struggle about telling people that I am having bariatric surgery. My husband has been so supportive so has my parents and 3 really close friends. But when I told my mother in law after I received my official surgery date. She said well why can't you just follow a diet. I don't think she meant it to be as hurtful as it sounded but its comments like that I don't want to hear. It was already hard enough to make the decision to start my weight loss journey and to get to this point I am now. Its an accomplishment that I am proud of but I feel like I am keeping it a secret. After my mother in laws comment I don't think I will tell anyone else. Has anyone …

Did anyone have migraines before surgery that got worse after? I think I experienced my first aura tonight. I am 3 week's post op. I had a rainbow sort of zig zag ring that was impairing my vision. It lasted about 30 mins but went away. However it scared the crap out of me. Has anyone experienced this? [emoji20]

Hello everyone, I was sleeved 2/8/19 and so far it’s going well. The only thing is my surgeons guidelines are a liquid diet for a month and then a puréed diet for a month after that. I am finding myself wanting more than just liquid already and I can’t imagine another 3 weeks of this mostly because I feel like I won’t be able to get enough calories like this. I was just wondering what everyone else’s restrictions were and if a full month of liquid is the normal routine?

Hi guys, I started my pureed stage (stage 2 in post op) on Monday and I cannot keep anything down. If I take one bite of something that's a thicker consistency than yogurt, I get horrible abdominal spasms and feel as though I may throw up...as well as the feeling that it's stuck in my throat. I am so disheartened because I was looking forward to moving onto the next stage but i cant seem to do it without crying in pain.... to give you a clearer picture: I'll take a bite of the pureed food, wait, and then get a horrible abdominal spasm. Once that stops, it's a constant feeling of food being stuck in my throat or my stomach pushing the food back up. Did anyone else deal wit…

LONG My wonderful, wonderful 15 year YOUNG Andrew died January 3rd. I'm still having trouble processing. This was a terrible, awful, avoidable accident. Andrew was video chatting with 4 other friends. The jist of the story is....kids were talking, laughing, daring each other about "silly" things. Not sure of all specific details (we will never know) They were all teasing/taunting/joking with each other - story involving a neck and a rope - how tight one could pull , won't say any more details, use your imagination. One child saw most of what was going on screen. He screamed, ran to his mother and then called 911. Police followed to l…

Hey guys so this is my 3rd try at my surgery, 3rd is the charm. My surgery is scheduled for March 14th. I can't wait, I will be in my new home next week. No more excuses. I'm doing a no carb no sugar diet, I lost 4 pounds in the last 2 weeks. I'm hoping by March I will be 30 pounds less, the less incisions the less pain.

Just had GSV.second guessing my decision.wondering if Inshould have done lap band first as it is less invasive and restriction lasts longer .or if I should have done gastric bypass as it has long term documentation and greater long term success rate. My bmi is 37.i originally opted out of gastric bypass due to fear of malabsorption and thought it has more severe side effects.i have just read the description for gastric sleeve and bypass in this forum and not so confident that GSV has less side effects.please share your thoughts.

Hey guys hope all is well. I've been so hooked on getting RNY but now I've been told my slow release medication might be affected by the malabsorption so I'm curious now about VSG... From your experience does the sleeve interfere with the hunger hormones I think it's called GHERIN? I'm just unsure if the restriction on stomach volume is enough for me especially long term I need to lose around 150lbs in 12 months! If there's no change in the intestines just the stomach? Thanks for your help.

My cholesterol was a bit high prior to weight loss surgery. I’m down 70 pounds and had some blood work done a couple of weeks ago. My primary doctor was very surprised to see my cholesterol has significantly increased. Anyone else have this issue or know why it could have happened? I was hoping to have the opposite effect after WLS

I did a search on past topics but did not find what I am looking for, so I decided to start this post looking for fellow patients who have hypothyroidism. I had surgery 2 months ago, primarily to alleviate my T2 diabetic symptoms. So far, I'm off all my diabetic meds and am cautiously optimistic my symptoms will continually improve in that regard. My concern is I have not lost as much weight as I would have liked by this point. I know we are all different, and I did start at a lower BMI due to my T2 comorbidity. In 2 months, I have lost almost 24 lbs, which, believe me, I'm thrilled about. I'm continuing to lose at a rate of 1.5-2 lbs per week. For anyone…

I feel by now I should have lost more weight. I keep letting my head hunger get me... every time. If its not my head hunger then Im drinking my cals in non fat half sweet starbucks drinks. I know I need to nip this in the butt now to be successful long term. How did you all fight head hunger? Also I find myself filling a vent starbucks cup with 1/4 juice, 2 shots vodka or tequila and the rest water = 20 fl. Ill drink two of these cups in the evening.... 40 fl of liquids... counts right?? yeah probably not

So apparently im losing slowly according to my NUT. Only lost 10lbs in a month. And only two months out. We confirmed that I was actually stalled for 3 weeks. We are trying to figure out why and what to do about it because it was along stall May need to bump up exercising to 6 days a week. I started out in the high 240s and by surgery I was 238. Two months post op I'm 209 Not mad at all, would have never gotten here alone, so no biggie to lose slowly. Anyone else a slow loser?

Sleeved 21st Jan, approx 7kg down. On soft foods, getting 650-820ish calories on board. Hitting av. 68g protein and 1.75litres fluid a day. Walking almost every day (missed one). But of an afternoon/evening I just cannot get warm. Sat here with OH and kids in T-Shirts and I'm in a ski jacket with legs cold in jeans, feet cold in socks, and nose/fingers really cold. Do I need to worry? What should I do differently? If 'No' and 'nothing', will this go away?

I'm telling EVERYBODY about my weight loss surgery. I know everyone has to make their own decision but here's the reasons I came to mine. First off it seems like it will be so much easier to tell the whole truth. Second- I want to help other people in my everyday life understand how much this surgery can help someone instead of having it stigmatized. Third- EVERYONE already knows. Believe me. Any time I was at work, when someone had a weight loss procedure done and didn't tell anyone or claimed they were working out and eating, right, after they left the room people would say, " Why don't he/she just tell the truth?" "It's obvious he/she had surgery ". People are not stup…

Ok this topic is mostly for the ladies but I suppose the guys may have this issue as well. I live in sunny HUMID Florida. I seem to be struggling with constant moisture under the boobs, and in the groin area, resulting in rash/fungus/yeast....whatever you want to call it. I am the Queen of Gold Bond powder but it is not always enough. What is anyone else using that helps with this?

WOW! So tomorrow is my Birthday. I don't think I have ever really been this excited for it. So much so that I'm having a Valentine's Couple's Date night at my house. Found some awesome outfits that I don't know which to wear. One that has been in my closet for about 20 years yes I said 20. That's how much I love it and could never get rid of it or ever fit me till now. What a journey the last 5 months have been. If it was not for an old friend that I lost touch with had not posted a picture of herself I would have never had known about this WLS. I have been going to many doctor's for years with no outcome. I fired the last one when I mentioned this and told …

So, I shared with my mom that I would like to lose another 78 pounds, but she doesn't think I need to. I mean, I've never been this size even, let alone smaller than this, so I don't even know if 175 is a do-able goal for me, but it seems like it should be. BMI-wise, I'll still be overweight. I'm super happy with where I am, but I want to keep going. I guess I don't really have a question; I'm more just getting this out there. I guess I really won't know what my body is capable of until I get closer to that weight. I was telling a coworker this, and she said that she thinks that I need to workout to tighten things up. She's right; I do need to workout, but things on…

Im supposed to be sleeved, and just recently noticed some people are getting a sleeve with the DS. What is the benefit of this? How does it work? I thought the whole reason to "sleeve" was to keep the digestive flow the same. Im just curious as to what other sleeve options there are that I don't know about. Brothers and Sisters, I’m getting closure to a surgery date and I was wondering how much time should I take off from work? I know surgery affects everyone differently, but was wondering what your different experiences with recovery and the standard time to take off.
