Pureed Food Stage... Lots of pain!

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I started my pureed stage (stage 2 in post op) on Monday and I cannot keep anything down. If I take one bite of something that's a thicker consistency than yogurt, I get horrible abdominal spasms and feel as though I may throw up...as well as the feeling that it's stuck in my throat. I am so disheartened because I was looking forward to moving onto the next stage but i cant seem to do it without crying in pain.... to give you a clearer picture: I'll take a bite of the pureed food, wait, and then get a horrible abdominal spasm. Once that stops, it's a constant feeling of food being stuck in my throat or my stomach pushing the food back up. Did anyone else deal with this? I am not sure what to do. Any advice would be great.

Thanks!

Moving from stage to stage is not on a regular timeline. Stick with yogurts and shakes for another week or two, then try again. You may just be a slow-healer. Give yourself time.

Make sure you fill out your profile completely so people on here can respond correctly. If you are a bypass patient, I can try and relate with your experiences but if you're a VSG patient I would step back and let the sleevers chime in. If you are like me (RNY) you have a small pouch that has a small dime size hole that allows food to travel from the pouch into the intestine. That hole will stretch over time and make it easier to consume the recommended amount of food. Sometimes scar tissue will form early on and you will have to go back to the surgeon for a procedure to open up the hole that allows food to exit the pouch and enter the intestine. You progress through the stages of food texture to gently create an obstruction free path for the food to travel down. There's a little discomfort involved in this process but if it becomes unbearable, you might have to go get it checked out.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
