*** September 2018 Sleevers ***

  • Popular Post

Hello everyone! I finally got a date - September 6, 2018! I will be having multiple surgeries along with my vertical sleeve gastrectomy. I will elaborate on the other things I will have done in a separate thread - I want to keep this for the sleeve part only. I've been in the conversation since March 2018 and am on my second surgeon, whom I've been seeing since June 29, 2018. I've lost (as of Aug. 2, 2018) 28 pounds so far. I am officially on the four-week pre-op diet. The surgeon is concerned with my liver size. I had to have a CT scan yesterday to specifically look at the liver and the blood flow through it. He thinks I have what is called Portal Hypertension. The CT scan should give him the answers he is looking for. He did say that if it turns out that I have portal hypertension, he may not be able to perform the surgery due to higher risks of bleeding. Fingers crossed!

The surgeon also found during the upper endoscopy that I have an hiatal hernia. He said he would repair this also when performing the VSG.

My pre-op diet consists of greater than 64oz of water a day, a protein shake and veggies/fruit for breakfast & lunch, a snack (cottage cheese, greek yogurt, etc.) and veggies/fruit, and 3oz of lean meat and veggies for dinner. I'm limited to strictly 800 calories or less per day while getting greater than 90g protein. I've been doing this diet for a bit now and I am averaging 795 calories, 95g protein, and greater than 90oz of water each day. So good, so far. Right now, I'm eating 1/4 cup of ricotta cheese, 1/2 cup of mini peppers, and 1/2 cup of sugar snap peas. I added some Cholula green pepper sauce and some Cholula chili garlic sauce to the ricotta cheese - I'm not used to the flavor and texture yet, so this is helping me eat it. (I have to do the same with cottage cheese, that or add some salsa)

Good luck to everyone!

So, I got a call from the surgeon yesterday and he said the CT scan of my liver did not show any abnormalities! That is awesome news! I just need to make sure the pre-op diet is adhered to so I shrink

So, I was using my surgeon's office scale as my official weigh-in device. Since I will not be visiting their office again until after my surgery (it is in Salt Lake City, UT, and I live in Ammon, ID), I have decided to use the certified scale in the medical office where I work. I am in the same building, so it is convenient. My last official weight at the surgeon's office was 355.9 pounds on August 3, 2018. Today, on the work scale, I weighed 351.2 pounds. I weigh in the same way as at the surgeon's office (empty my pockets, remove shoes), except I do not remove my shoes. For the weight trend, this will ensure I am going in the right direction.

You are a smart crafty dude, I like that in a guy! You are good to have as a friend! Don't ever want to find out what k8nd of an enemy you would be!?

Hi all, September 3rd date for me. Looking forward to it - feeling a mixture of excitement and nerves as it gets closer! Only 10 days until the milk diet begins... good luck to everyone!

Mine is September 26, pending insurance approval, but considering that I have met all of the criteria and am getting my gall bladder out at the same time , it should be approved

And good luck and Good healing to you all. I hope you have tbe success you wish for.

Well, I get headaches when I do not drink enough Water. It is a sign for me that I am getting dehydrated. I hope the pre-op diet does not hurt your head too much. It is important to get a good start going into your surgery. (-:

I actually do drink a lot of water. To the point I thought I was diabetic and got tested a couple times. I ordered some SF electrolyte powder, so I'm hoping that helps.

@macadamia congratulations ? I wish you all the best!! Your date is right around the corner, you will do great.

Hi mine is Sept 17th, I'm going through all emotions and low bmi. But it's the right decision after all the up downs.

Congrats!

Hello. I am scheduled on the Sept.12th and start my liquid diet on Aug. 29. I see all of these comments about endoscopy and CT scans but my surgeon hasn’t mention these test to me. Are these test part of the clinics before surgery?
@ Flicky are you somewhere in the UK or the Commonwealth? They seem to be gung ho about milk diets.
@ Macadamia I too drink a,lot of fluids, and like you, diabetes is always in the back of my mind, I have a strong family sytrain of,it, then I remembered duhh,I have 3 kidneys if course I have to.process a lot of liquid.
@ Sleevemom I do wish you well and will be anxious to,get what your September date will be. On either this forum or,mine, September Surgeries and Success, uou,may just find a Surgery Twin.
@ 3girls+2hd1977, you are doing a great, thing for your girls and also YOU. You are ensuring a chance you will see them grow up, graduate, marry and, make you grandbabies.
@VictoriuoSlyG8ful, if your doctor abd, program find more tests are necessary I'm sure they will tell you. I have, been on my liver-shrinking diet, since August 1st for a September 5th RnY? Is it working? IDK,but I am waking up with Dead Dragon Breath so I may be going into, ketosis. I have the BMR of a depressed slug so don' t know what kind of weight loss I can expect, whatever I will work with,it. A very wise Bari- Pal submitted a inspirational quote
Even you only lose a half- POUND a week, at the end of a year, you will be 26 pounds smaller.
So,I don't cry in my,milk, there's plenty of water there, I buy 1% after all. Don't sweat the small stuff because after while in the Grand Scheme of Life, it's minor anyway.
So,Good Luck, Good Weight Loss and Good Health everyone!

Hi, guys!! Just found out today I was approved and am scheduled for September 12 in Lewisville, TX. :D I am sooo excited! Congrats, y’all!

What all have you all bought in preparation for the surgery (vitamins, shakes, whatever...)? I’m trying to get my list together because I’m sure it’ll be here before I know it.

Welcome! I actually grew up in McKinney. I live up WI now, but chose to have my surgery in Dallas. Mine is on the 5th.

I've bought the vitamins my surgeon recommends for all patients (multi-vitamin, D3, B1, B12, and calcium citrate), pill organizer, and a pill splitter/crusher. I've bought a variety of protein powder and protein bars to see which ones I like and for after the surgery, which ones I tolerate best. I bought a Ninja blender that has an attachment for single serve smoothies and spiralizer for veggie noodles. I also bought some sugar free electrolyte powder to add to my water. I already have a really good food scale, but may upgrade my regular scale. Oh, and a fabric tape measure and a journal. I think that's it.
