Excited and prayers needed!

Hi - I have had the lap band for 2 years and I hate it. Stuck foods, throwing up. Too tight. Too loose. I have lost only 30 lbs. I have adapted bad eating habits (compensating for lack of food with liquids because of fear of eating and getting stuck). I had my band adjusted by a new doctor yesterday who strongly suggested I would do well with the Sleeve. I'd love anyone's thoughts on this subject. Thank you.

I just found out yesterday that my port completely flipped over and i will need to have surgery to fix it. My dr wants to to move the location of my port as well. Right now it is on the right side, about an inch above my belly button. I know this location is common. This dr, who did not do my lap band surgery, wants to relocate it to the middle, right below my sternum or below the center of my rib cage. He says its the best location to ensure no flipping. I never heard of a port in this spot and im worried that it will be more noticiable. Does anyone have their port in this location or know of anyone who does?? Please help! Im so nervous!

Im getting a revision from lapband to the VSG. Insurance= I started lapband at 220 then dropped 50lbs suffering irritable malnutritioned UGGGHH I JUST HAD ENOUGH. Now I'm 231 as of 6days ago now weigh 224. I'm 5'5" & goal wt 130-140. I'm a 34yr male. 6'1 and currently weighing 225 pounds. I had succesful lap band surgery in march 2007 and lost 80 pounds. From 265 went down to 185. I had maintained overall weight loss success until sometime last year in january 2014 when i started to notice the GERD getting worse and also some weight gain. For the first time in 5 years when i hit the scale i saw numbers over the 200 range. I started to worry because i knew something was not right. Got an upper GI series done and all it showed was mild pouch dilation. Doctor left band as is and never suggested any course of treatment for the dilation and for the GERD. Due to being too tight and acid reflex at night i went for an unfill....he ended up unfilling me all the way because the scan showed a "possible" slip. He wasnt sure what was going on with my band. It was definitely aggravated and swollen due to the vomiting. Doctor (mind you this isnt the doctor that did my surgery) right away is talking about a revision surgery. I just heard that I received approval for my revision surgery through Aetna. It will be covered 90% as well. Soo excited for another chance and to be rid of this awful reflux. Im hoping for surgery the beginning of June. This Xmas i hope to have a new me this year.

Hi All, I am knew to this site. Back in 2001 i had gastric bypass. I lost 140 lbs but thru the years i slowly gain the weight back. Now 13 years later I am back up to my original pre surgery weight. I am know looking into have a WLS revision. I have gone for my first visit with Dr. Nusbaum. He as well as his staff were amazing. He has given me two options to consider before he does my EGD to see what he is working with. So my two choices are Lap Band or Plication. I heard many things about Lap Band. After being overweight my entire life I decided to get the lap band in dec. 2012. I really wanted gastric sleeve surgery at the time, but my insurance didn't cover it and I felt bypass was "too extreme". My band never could get in the "green zone" and because I traveled for work, often times would be in horrible pain because due to cabin pressure the saline in my band would get tighter. I've had my band since Oct. 2011 and it has been a nightmare. I'd lose weight if it was so tight I could only have fluids but would have the worst acid reflux. Anytime I tried to eat anything it would just come right back out so I went from 256 to 207 and back up to 236 because they had to take most of the saline out. It's so frustrating! I asked my doctor if I could switch to the bypass and she told me to call her with my new insurance info at the first of the year so I did and got a call that my insurance does cover revision but I need to go in and see the doctor this Thursday to talk in detail and see if I need nutrition classes again. I know I've read of a few people having hematomas (pools/clots of blood) after surgery, but I'm one of the few whose incision came open and now I'm having to deal with an open wound. I had a band to sleeve revision on 1/08/10. When I went to have my staples removed, the post-care doc said to keep an eye on the swelling under my largest incision (where the port had been with my band). The swelling was the size of a lemon and pretty hard. It kept getting more and more purple/bruised looking and the swelling did not go down. Currently have lapband placed since 3/07. Band has worked and done it's job but now it has started to slip and i have gained 35 pounds. Getting revision done this coming tuesday and feeling nervous after i met with the surgeon yesterday for the pre-op consultation. He says it will take about 2 hrs to do revision. That is more time consuming the removal of the band and all the scar tissue that needs to be removed. I am concerned about the scar tissue. Have had the band inside for 8 yrs and i know scar tissue has built up but im concerned about how much tissue there really is inside. When I had my Lap-Band placed in 2009, I had met a girl at a support meeting who was having the band the day before I was. We've become great friends, and it was fabulous having someone going through the same thing at the same time to talk to, bounce ideas off, question, etc. I don't know anyone having revision surgery. My revision to bypass will be on May 19. Anyone in a similar situation need a virtual revision buddy?

I just wanted to know if anyone is happy about revising from one surgery to ds. after my research this surgery seems to be so appropriate for my eating disorder. I can no longer have fills in my band so it is wide open and slowly my wt is going up. complications caused me to be in this spot. just was wondering if anyone had an opinion.

Hi all had my surgery on Thursdays morning all went well. In pain but i will say the gas pain is worster than the incisions pain. I am having issue get all the liquids in at this point but am trying reallt hard. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciate it.

I can't believe this is really happening. I'm only a week and a half away. Somehow I have gotten lucky and only have to do a 2 day pre op diet (I was expected at least a week). Between now and then i know I'm probably going to eat an insane amount of food. But I'm ready to say goodbye to the foods that I was constantly going overboard on. I'm at peace knowing I'll never be able to eat the way I am now ever again. This is what I wanted in 2006 when I got the lap band. But somehow I've ended up almost right back where I started. My pre lap band weight was 285. I'm now at 250. 50 of those pounds, I gained in the last 6 months. Let's get this show on the road.

Okay so I am 9 months out. I have lost 83 total with only 66 being since I had surgery. I am discouraged and depressed. I know that some of my slowed success or failed success has been from not eating at all in the beginning due to nausea. Then not getting my protein in and falling back to old habits like eating carbs. However during the last couple of months I have tired so hard to eat right, get my protein in, exercise, and drink water but to no avail. It is still coming off slow or non existent at this point. Nothing seems to be sitting well in my stomach and I have a nasty taste in my mouth. Even at times I'm vomiting. Has anyone else experienced this if so how did you get through it. Please help!!!!

Hello everyone, I am new here. I was banded in Mexico by Dr. Jose Rodriguez in Acuna Mexico in 2004. I was never able to have a successful fill and have gained almost 80 pounds since my surgery. I want to have a revision to a sleeve, but do not know if a doctor here would do it. I do not have any kind of operative records or anything. I really want to get this thing out, I am constantly getting stuck and throwing up, I can't live like this anymore! Has anyone had a similar situation and had a surgeon here do it and insurance cover it? Any information or stories would be greatly appreciated! I am in South Bend, IN. Thanks so much!!

Failed sleeve? Had sleeve in 2013, only lost 40 lbs - cannot work out because of medical reasons. Has anyone converted from sleeve to bypass ( or band) and achieved weight loss? Got to have another surgery and need to get the weight off. Your thoughts.

I after 3 attempts of fixing a afferent limb and dilating my opening have to have a revision. I cant eat food been on liquids for 6 weeks my hairs coming out again and stay exhausted. Does anyone know how long it takes tricare to approve or deny. Its funny that i had my surgery done at a medical center. Im glad this time i was referred to a civilian.

Good morning all.....I was just wondering if there are others on here who have had revision surgery due to a past WLS.....And after you had a revision, how much weight loss were you losing per week. I am 8 weeks post op and so far I have loss 35 since surgery(2/16/15) And 44lbs in total from my starting weight (2/3/15).

Having had a lap band for 9 years, and it failing quite spectacularly! I have just been approved for revisional surgery. I have been given the option of Gastric Sleeve or Gastric Bypass.... and I am struggling to decide which will be best for me. I understand both have their pro's and con's... Hi, I have my appointment to see the surgeon's LPN, or maybe even my Doc as well, IDK, on 4/9. I've given them all the necessary paperwork, test results, etc. They know me from my Banding in 07. Here's the thing. As educated as I am, I am feeling scared to death! I don't know what this appointment is for. I'm freaking out about having someone go in and tear my insides apart. I had the gastric sleeve 5 years ago and due to acid reflux and my esophagus collapsing I had to have a revision to the bypass which was 14 months ago (1/22/14). I am new to the forum. I am looking for information for a good revision surgeon in or near AL. Most the doctors in Alabama do not perform revision surgery. However, they will take your money for consult and then tell when you're in the office, "oh we don't do revision surgery" . I have travelled as far as ATL and have a surgeon. However, because constant trips and not the ability to accommodate out of town patients, this was not a successful path. I know there is a listed Bariatric Surgeon who specialize in revision and are able to accommodate out of town patients. I just need the list so I can begin again. Thank u for any help.

Hello :-) I just found out that my band has slipped and I have been having issues with it for the past year. I've just passed my two year mark of being banded and everything went well the first year. Then it all changed. Multiple ER visits for gastroenteritis, being stuck so bad afterwards do the the swelling I couldn't even swallow my own saliva...so after this last issue and not losing weight for a while now, I think I'm going to get a revision. I have different insurance then when I was banded, and my BMI is still high, so my surgeon (still the same one who banded me) said I have a pretty good chance of being approved. She said it will take 6 months of jumping through …

My surgeon (one of the top) recommended the sleeve for me. Brief story : I was banded in 2007 and very successful 100% loss of excessive weight. 8 years and 2 kids later the band no longer working and hard to adjust, esophagus mildly enlarged but returns to normal with unfill. I love the sound of the sleeve but worry when I read that bypass is a better revision from band. Do not want to make the wrong choice! I trust my surgeon who knows my history. What do you all think? Also important- I regained most of the weight!

I've been doing a lot of research and I feel that I've really narrowed it down to what I feel are the best surgoens in Mexico, however I can't seem to find much in regards to sleeve revisions or resleeving. The surgeons I've consulted with say they do them and have said that I'm a good candidate given my situation but I would love to hear form other patients who have had this done...are there any out there and if so, what surgeon did you choose?

I'm 2 days out of surgery and still in hospital w fever and low blood count. I had 2 units in a blood transfusion and I hope to go home tomorrow. Overall I had more gas pain which was absolutely horrible, but less incision pain Bc no port. I can get about 1tablespoon of fluid down. I am not hungry and I have no appetite whatsoever. I'm bloated w iv fluid and ready to go home. All in all seems like a normal sleeve revision experience except for the blood loss and fever.

I want the band out - of that I am certain. I am not sure if I want a revision to gastric sleeve at this point especially if it's two separate surgeries. I am 64 and had the band done in 2008. It never worked as promised for anything, especially weight loss. I lost about 75 pounds - 60 of which was from the 6 month pre-op diet and the 2 weeks pre & post op liquid diet. I'm having an open revision on Wed. Mar 18. I am both excited and nervous. I had my stomach stapled way before they were doing Lap bands. My surgeon performed stomach stapling surgeries back then, so he has a good idea of what we are dealing with. I am nervous about having an open surgery again. I have two big , long incisions down my abdomen from the original weight loss surgery, and having my gallbladder and appendix out, so I have an idea of what to expect. The bariatric clinic where I had my surgery closed so I had to find a new doctor. Dr. Robert Cywes from Jacksonville, FL did my hiatal hernia repair and lapband revision March 2013. I am a 45 year old male who is 5'10/270- I had a lap band put in in 2010. My lowest weight has been 230 and I balloon back and forth . I want the band OUT it is almost completely filled with no restriction. If I weighed anything under 200 I would be pretty fit. Here are my concerns 1. Had the surgery yesterday. Still in the hospital. My surgeon said I had minimal scar tissue. Didn't take any pain meds and the pain is bearable. They still have me on ice chips, just waiting to switch to water

Although I want my band out, I am not sure I want to get the sleeve - for the following reasons: 1) Age: 64 2) Doctor said I could lose AS MUCH AS 45 pounds (my current BMI is 35) 3) Not being able to take NSAIDS (I have chronic back problems and arthritis) 4) I was diagnosed with GERD many years ago and have no symptoms while using daily nexium. 5) Not a lot of encouragement on here when they assess my situation. Good Morning Sleevers!! I have a question regarding the ability to eat without effort 4 oz. of food. I feel that I can easily eat more but, stop myself at that point. My surgery date was 9 Feb 15, so, I am about 2 1/2 weeks out. I started soft foods 1 week after surgery (fish, tuna, green beans). I guess each Surgeon is different. My surgery was completely pain-free and, though I am off work for 6 weeks, I could have gone to work the same week. I am losing fine (hit a stall now but, not too worried) but I am concerned that if I am able to eat so much now, in a month I will be eating a much larger portion. Secondly, I'm having revision surgery from the lap band (placed in March 10, 2011) to the vertical gastric sleeve (March 16, 2015.) I started to have band complications three years out from that surgery. I re-gained a significant amount of weight, which I now hope to re-lose.
